SSRS 2005 Failure Sending Email: The Server Rejected The Sender Address
Aug 8, 2006
I have subscription by email problem on the following configuration:
Windows XP prof.
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise
Configured Database Mail with remote SMTP server to send email successfully
Configured SSRS to use remote SMTP server
Edited the Rsreportserver.config file as following (by the instructions from MSDN)
I scheduled my subscription and tested it. I didn't receive any mail from the setting email address, but got an error message in ReportServerService log file as following.
Error sending mail, CDO error -2147220978, will not resend
Error sending email. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004020E): The server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html
I did a little search, but couldn't find any solution for it. Is anybody successfully to get the Reporting Services subscription by email function working through MS SQL Server Management Studio or if you have a solution for this issue, would you mind to share the experience with me. I will be very appreciated.
I am getting this error when sending an excel file via email.
Failure sending mail: The Report Server has encountered a configuration error; more details in the log files
The scheduled job which emails an excel spreadsheet has been working and now it doesn't. I've done some research and this KB article is close to the error that I'm seeing however the win 32 error 87 is different. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=842423
Has anyone any idea's? I have not applied the hotfix for SSRS 2000 sp2.
Log file has this.

I am Getting this error in SSRS Report Subscription. I went to Subscription table Checked the Laststatus. The LastStatus is :Failure sending mail: The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address.Mail will not be resent.
We have the need to be able to send emails from our SQL 2005 server with the from address field determined at run time from a table. What are my options? We are running a clustered SQL 2005 x64 standard edition on Win 2003 Enterprise x64.
1. Database Mail - with all the hoopla about how nice it is to have a proper SMTP mailer in SQL, it still seems to lack this functionailty. IMHO a HUGE miss. 2. sp_send_cdosysmail - We used this when we had a SQL 2000 on W2K and it worked just fine. On our current environment, the stored procedure works for a period of time and then suddenly and out of no where we see this message in its log files:
CDO.Configuration.1 - A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. sp_OAGetErrorInfo for sp_OASetPropery sendusing
After which no emails are sent until I restart the SQL Server service. We have tried both the sendusing method of 1 (local pickup) as well as 2 (remote SMTP server) and both are exhibiting the same behavior.
Does anyone know how to send emails from within a trigger without the use of a mail server. I know that xp_sendmail can be used if a mail server, such as MS Exchange Server is available and SQL Server is set up as an e-mail client. However is there a way to send mail to the outside world without the use of a mail server? (Perhaps there is a third party product or extended stored procedure that can give me this ability?)
HiTrying to send email from sql server seems a very hard task, can iteven be done without using exchange? all examples I can find relies onexchange but I would rather send it to any SMTP server since we do notuse exchange.rgdsMatt
I have a report that gets a Customer_Number parameter and sends a mail with that customer's data.I want my users to be able to get this report's results by sending an email to a certain email address with a customer number in the topic.
More and more often, I am seeing this error message in RS subscriptions. I would assume it means the IIS server can't connect to the corporate exchange server. However I was wondering if there is some timeout setting/configuration in RS or the IIS server (or any other kind of setting) I can change to help alleviate this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Jeff
UPDATE: After looking closer at the subscriptions, I have noticed that subscriptions set up by a RS Admin (who is also a server admin) seem to be working fine. It is the subscriptions that are set up by ordinary users that are failing...
I am implementing a fax solution (Right Fax) and pulling email information from a table and passing into a variable. In order to send out a fax via email, the syntax is in the following example below:
Example:
To send a fax from Outlook to Jane Doe at 555-1212, enter:
[RFAX:Jane Doe@/FN=555-1212]
When the following syntax gets passed into the Send Mail Task, into the "To" line and the package is executed I'm receiving the following.
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address.".
[Send Mail Task] Warning: The address in the "To" line is malformed. It is either missing the "@" symbol or is not valid.
I realize it’s a malformed email address. Is it possible to create a group and instead of the fax syntax pass the group name?
Having a problem with email subscriptions in SSRS 2005 running on Win2003 server. The email subscription is attempting to email an excell attachment of the report. The report uses a shared data source with stored credentials. Configured email in Reporting Services config manager to use SMTP server OurServer.OurDomain.com Even wrote a test vb.net program to send email using that SMTP server and was successful - yet Reporting Services subscription fails with following error:
Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information.
Combed the Reporting Services error logs but found nothing pertaing to email - SMTP - Subscriptions or anything close - I'm stuck but we really need this as I am emailing 3 reports daily by the manual process of running the reports - exporting to excell - and emailing - UHG!!
We have a new SSRS 2005 instance running with a number of reports. We have setup a subscription on one of these to run at 8am every Monday. However this is not working. No email is being sent and it does not appear the subscription is being run, nothing is ever written in the Last Run column.
I have looked in the logs and the only thing I can see is the following warning
w3wp!extensionfactory!5!13/02/2006-14:42:03:: w WARN: The extension Report Server Email does not have a LocalizedNameAttribute. w3wp!extensionfactory!5!13/02/2006-14:42:03:: w WARN: The extension Report Server FileShare does not have a LocalizedNameAttribute.
We had this working succesfully with SSRS 2000. The new instance was a clean install.
I have SSRS 2005 installed. User wants to change email address on subscription to send to external customer or others in our organization.
If I modify right "Manage individual subscriptions" to enabled for his security profile, the email address box is greyed-out.
I tried changing value <SendEmailToUserAlias>xxxx</ SendEmailToUserAlias> to FALSE in rsreportserver.config, with SSRS restart, but address box is greyed-out.
If I modify right "Manage all subscriptions" enabled for his security profile, the address box is not greyed-out, but can now see-edit everyone's subscriptions for that report.
How can I turn on address box is not greyed-out, but not open view of ALL subscriptions to my users?
I've got a report server that I recently inherited. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on SSRS, but I've figured out a lot in the past few weeks.
One issue I'm having (apparently it's always been there, but nobody ever bothered to fix it in the past) has to do with the report subscriptions and linked reports. We have an SSL cert inside IIS. I have SSRS configured to "require SSL connections" in the Report Server Virtual Directory tab.
So the user gets an email with a link to a report. But the link has an "http://" as opposed to "https://." When you click on the link, it throws your standard "page must be viewed on a secure channel." When I manually append an S to the url, it works great.
There has to be a way to automagically add the S to the url, but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyone ever run into this before? Google has not been good to me this morning either.
We have push transaction replication from A database to 2 other B and C database. I have configured email to sent upon failure of subscription job of B and D database on Database A. Is this the way that we need to configure email to send when there is replication break up or failure.
Database is MS sql server 2008 R2 Publication Database: A Replication mode : Transaction Replication Replication used : Push Replication from database A Subscription Database: B and C
We have an identifier of who has performed an ection which populates a table with their email address in the format firstname.surname@domain. I am looknig for some code to split out the first name and surname (and, if possible, capitalise both) so uor audit report can show the actual name instead of the email address.
Has anyone encountered this issue previously and know a solution?
I have developed a B2B Application which is successfully running, now the problem is that my client says that he need a process which sends report of total orders on daily bases.
I am using SQL Server and think that SQL Mail is a good idea, I can find many articles about which needs Outlook for that which is much difficult on the web server. Remember I need to send email only not to receive.
The following SP adds a record to a table. I want to then send an email from within this SP to notify someone that their login is blocked. I can get their email address easily with a simple select but how does the xp_sendmail procedure actually fit in ?? I've tried adding it in just before the raiserror part but it doesn't work ? The raiserror part is used to trigger an alert to notify me but i need to also notify the client. Can anyone see what i am doing wrong please. Many thanks.
I want to send an email to all the addresses that are contained in a table. I have tried using xp_sendmail, but I just get an error saying that xp_sendmail cannot be found. Any ideas???
Ok I am going to try and explain this best as possible. I have a report that gets everyones name who has not filled in attendance for a class. what they want is when the report is ran an email gets sent out. so I have written the sql to create a temp table that will get the distinct email.... so lets say the table consists of
My code below works fine when run from my pc (changed all the values forobvious reasons). The code is placed inside a DTS task via VBS scripting. But when I try to run directly from the server where sqlserver is installed, the script fails.I have SMTP running, but there is no outlook installed. Can someone please advise what I am missing.ThanksBobSet objEmail = CreateObject("CDO.Message")objEmail.From = "send@test.com"objEmail.To = "receive@test.com"objEmail.Subject = "TEST SUBJECT"objEmail.AddAttachment "\server est.csv"objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusing") = 2objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") = "SERVER_NAME"objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = 1objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") = "username"objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") = "userpwd"objEmail.Configuration.Fields.Item("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport") = 25objEmail.Configuration.Fields.UpdateobjEmail.Sendset objEmail = nothing
I have configured smtp email in MS sql server and configure email to schedular job when schedular jobs become failed. Can i configure email so that email will be sent from scheduler job on both success of job and Failure of job?
Is there a handy-dandy way for me to be able, from a stored procedure, to capture the notification email address for a user associated with a job?
I need to send an email out from a stored procedure, and I want it to be set up to send to the same user that is set up in the job that calls the stored procedure.
the same notification stored proc will be used in multiple jobs, but the jobs are already set up with a notification email to be sent to the defined users "on completion" (error or not). I want a separate email to be sent, but I want to use xp_Sendmail because I have to perform a select who's output I want to appear in the body of the email (and unless I am missing something, I have no control over the body of the standard "job completion" email).
I would prefer to NOT have to "hard code" the user email address in the stored proc that calls xp_sendmail, OR to put it in some user table in the database, when the user I want to send it to will always be the same one defined in at the JOB level in Enterprise Manager.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your instantaneous and informative answer-packed responses! ;)
I'm trying to strip out the First & Last Name from an Email Address. The email address is formatted as "FirstName.LastName@emailaddress.com" but sometimes a middle initial is used (ex: "First.M.Last@emailaddress.com").
I can locate the '@' sign and the first '.' period(from left to right) but need to find the first '.' from the left of the '@' sign.
I'm doing this in a view.
Here's some sample data and what I've tried:
CREATE TABLE dbo.Table1 (EmailAddr VARCHAR(255)) INSERT INTO dbo.Table1 (EmailAddr) SELECT 'Andy.Smith@gmaddr.com' UNION ALL SELECT 'Betty.Lee-Jones@gmaddr.com'
Hello, I will like to know the best practice for grouping email addresses in a table.
We have a basic table that has email address for admin users. Which goes thus
CLIENTS EMAIL
emailID int username: varchar 20 Client_email varchar 150
The Above table is for our admin users. Enabling them to send out emails to clients. Based on their bills.
We have a second table for mass mailing. Which has emails in groups. Each group is based on the above entry. And groups could range from 5 users up to 100,000 users.
Whats the best way to implement this.
Do I create a seperate column for each email entry, knowing that this table would be extremely big, with a lot of repeated values, ie username etc. Or group them TOGETHER as varchar(max)
Hi,I have 2 fields in a database: 'email' and 'website'.In the majority of cases, the website field is not populated even though theemail address is. In 90% of cases, the website will be 'www.' followed bywhatever is after the '@' symbol in the email address.Would anyone be able to help me with the SQL that would take whatever isafter the '@' sign in the email address, add it to 'www.' and populate the'website' field? Thanks!
