I have got a quistion in regards to SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. We're currently using the SSRS in one of our applciations with 20+ reports. We need to deplaoy 2 instances of an applciation: Test and Production. These applcaitions are running off two different databases in SQL Server [DBName]_Test and [DBName]_Live. So far all of our reports have been written to use a shared datasource. This worked fine untill we had to deploy a Live instance of the application, where the shared datasource is overwritten with the live one.
Now we have manually created a new shared datasource called [DataSource]_Live. However, whenever we need to redeploy the reports from visual studio, we then have to go though each report and point it to a correct datasource. This is extremly manual process - and takes up a lot of time...
Surely there must be an easier way around this (without duplicating the reporting project in VS.NET / or having to modify the datasource fr each report manually each time)?
I've got a report model I am trying to move from a development server to a production server. I published it to my development RS, exported the SMDL file, then uploaded it to the production server. At that point, I tried assigning the data source to the model and got the error:
I created two reports in SSRS and have configured both the web service and report manager URLs in report services configuration manager.
whenever I try to open either one of the two reports from the manager or service I get the following error msg.
"An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database.
(rsReportServerDatabaseError)
Invalid object name 'DataSets'. Could not use view or function 'ExtendedDataSets' because of binding errors."
I get a similar msg when I try to deploy the reports from VS 2010. Only the first 2 sentences are returned.
I'm mystified as to why DataSets is an invalid object name. It shows as the TargetDatasetFolder name WebsiteReports Property Page. I've looked around for the error source and can not find where this error is stemming from.
We developed some of the chart reports. It is working fine when we preview the reports in the solution itself. After deployment to reportserver, when we access the same report, It is showing empty rectangle box (border of chart body). We have already checked data source/ Dataset mapping for the report.
I have a couple of questions on the nature of shared and private deployment of SQL Server CE 2005 on mobile devices:
1. I've read that with a shared install, SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition files are automatically updated and serviced by Microsoft Update. I take it that this only applies to installations on desktop computers -- if you're installing on mobile devices, there IS no automatic update. Right?
2. I've also read that in order to do a shared install of SQL Server 2005 CE, the user must have administrative rights. How does this apply to installs on a mobile device? There is no such thing as an administrative user on a mobile device. However, mobile devices CAN require different levels of privilege to install certain programs -- do you need something like an application signed for privileged execution (via a M2M certificate) in order to do a shared install of SQL Server 2005 CE on a mobile device?
Or is the shared versus private deployment only an issue when deploying to a desktop?
is there a way to bring in oracle and sql tables into the same report and join them together on common fields? also, if this is possible, i am trying to join them in the native UI and not the generic query designer mode.
i am hoping that through fully qualifying the tables as you bring them in, that this may be possible. any suggesions would be greatly appreciated...
We are having our SSRS (Sql Server Reporting Services) Servers deployed in Domain1 to connect to the Domain1 data sources. Now, when we configure the SSRS datasources (which is in Domain1) to run under €śDomain2/User€? credentials , it€™s taking 60 minutes to render a report whereas when we configure the SSRS datasources to run under €śDomain1/User€? account it€™s taking only 5 seconds.
I would like to know €śWhy there is a latency difference while configuring the SSRS data sources with different domain credentials (Domain1Domain2)?€?
Any pointers to Support KB or any other related articles would be really great.
I am currently working with SQL 2005 Reporting Services and MS Visual studio 2005.
In my SQL server I have data about organizations, so that each organization's data is stored in an individual database. In addition, the number of organizations/databases is variable. I know the number of organizations and the name of each one (that it agrees with the name of its database) because there is a database (organizationsDB) with a table (organizationsTB) containing the list of the organizations.
So, It would be possible to create a report containing a summary of each organization? .... for example a table in which each row contains data of each organization.
I have loaded up the newest latests, greatest Visual Studio, SQL reporting etc. I have a need to pull in data from multiple sources. Currently I have DTS packages I have to run to dump information into 1 data source to report on. Has anybody figured out a way to have multipled data sources available when in the query builder?
Is it possible to use a ReportViewer control (or something in .net) to change connection strings of a report's datasources? The connection string comes from a shared data source, so using an expression for the connection string in the actual report is out.
Essentially, I'm looking to tack on Analysis Services cube role(s) to the connection string to change data permissions. If there's another way to do this with a RS report, I'm all ears.
I am trying to create a basic report in SSRS, with 6 columns but then we receive an excel spreadsheet with different account numbers daily and I am requested to create a report based on those account numbers. so how can I create a shared folder for the users to drop their excel spreadsheet there and make my SSRS only filter the result set based only on those account numbers?
I am attempting to pull certain bits of information from the content field in the ReportServer.dbo.Catalog. I found this blog post that is nearly perfect :Â URL....However, when I try and bring in the query parameters, I am just getting nulls. All the code is:
--The first CTE gets the content as a varbinary(max) --as well as the other important columns for all reports, --data sources and shared datasets.
WITH ItemContentBinaries AS ( SELECT ItemID , Name , [Type] , CASE Type WHEN 2 THEN 'Report' WHEN 5 THEN 'Data Source'
[code]....
I've tried various variations on the bit third line up from the bottom without any joy. I been reading lots on XML this morning and thing my head has completely gone out the window.
Is there a way to restrict the subscriptions to use Shared Schedule only? We want to make sure that we manage the schedules and they'll only run the subscriptions during the off peak hours.
I created the sql server reports and data sources. Each reporting is using 2 data sources. In the same server I want to deploy reports for multiple clients. The deployment path should be ClientNameData sourcename[data sources] and ClientNameReportGroupName[reports]. Now I am manually deploying reports using target folder etc... I have to manually change targer server, target folder etc... every time I am deploying reports. I want to automate this process. I want the tool to deploy reports based on the configuration file settings. I need the tool ro an idea of how to make it?
i'm a new developer and working with ssrs , any one can provide me by the steps of Reports Deployment and ssrs installation . i'm using sql server 2005 with asp.net ,vb.net ....
I have an reporting services (SSRS 2005) installed locally and I am trying to access it locally through : http://localhost/reportserver, but all I get back is this page.
localhost/ReportServer - /
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.3054.00
Also when I try to connect to reporting services through SSMS I get the following error message.
Cannot Connect to Server ServerNameSQL2005
Unable to connect to the remove server (Microsoft.SQLServer.Management.UI.RSClient)
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it(System).
About my set up, I have SQL Server 2005 (SP2) installed in a named instance called SQL2005, I have reporting services set up to run under local system and I have gone through the RS config tool and everything in there appears to be correct. U double checked in IIS that the report server folder is "ReportServer" and not "ReportServer$SQL2005". I have set up full read write permissions to all the virtual directories, to my domain account which is also a local administrator. The user logs in under windows authentication (marked in the directory security tab in IIS, for the virtual directory & the default website).
Whenever I start the service however I get the following errors in the windows application log:
Report Server (SQL2005) cannot create the trace log C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFilesReportServer__05_15_2008_10_27_52.log.
Also I am unable to deploy my SSRS 2005 project from BI studio with more errors, I get the following exception thrown in a windows. (I am trying to deploy to the root "ReportServer" folder, not a sub folder.
A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/reportserver.
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1) error: CS2001 "Source File "C:WindowsTempc-zsc7th.0.cs" could not be found.....
I don't have sharepoint installed, I do have the dashboard designer for Performance Point Server 2007 installed though.
I have been on this thing for hours, I have tried appending "$SQL2005" on to the end, stopping and starting RS Service multiple times. Change all the permssions in IIS so that the user can full control over the IIS virutal directory. I am at a loss at what else I could try.
Ive successfully cloned an SSRS VM Server within a scale out deployment to REPLACE a current physical machine. This wasn't too difficult.
The issue im having now is in creating a new SQL 2014 Environment with 3 SSRS nodes. Ive taken the time to build one up. Changed all my config files, installed all components etc & tweaks needed within my company...
I have now hit a brick wall though. Ive cloned this first server twice to give me 3 nodes. This is a new environment so the issue I have is that the rsreportserver.config files all now have the same InstallationID. I dont have any existing nodes to overwrite these files with. So when I attach the nodes to the database they will update the keys table with the same InstallationID as the first node and none will work.
Any way to force the SSRS setup to re-generate an installation ID - by repair maybe? Or is this something I can manually just make up?
I was wondering if there's a way to connect to a shared datasource in the Code section of a report's properties. I want to connect using my shared datasource as defined in my solution and query it to return a value based on user input for a function I need to put there.
Was wondering if there was a best practice minimum permissions for creating a SQL login to use when setting up a new shared Data source for SSRS report manager?
Something along the lines of them being a data read for the DB and permissions to update tempdb?
Would have thought it not advisable to have the login be able to update the main db...
Not sure if I really have the correct forum for this posting so appologies if it is not. My question refers to the basic functionality of the new Sharepoint 3.0 both WSS and MOSS.
In version 2.0 of Sharepoint Services reports were displayed in Sharepoint using Report Explored to navigate and Report Viewer to display the report. Also KPI's were displayed in a web part which came from Business Scorecard Manager 2005.
I have been investingation both WSS3.0 and MOSS and have installed WSS3.0 to test. I notice that I can connect to reporting services with CTP2.0 for sql server. I can upload reports into document lists and run them from there. My question is has the old idea of using the report explorer gone as when you have report manager running in sharepoint integration it has no website to upload files or manage permissions. Is the document upload method the new way or am I missing something.
More importantly though is the display of KPI's is this now only available in MOSS 2007 and no longer a function of WSS3.0 as you cannot install Business Scorecard manager on WSS3.0 but it appears this is built in to MOSS.
Any guidelines to this new functionality would be greatly appreciated
I have created a report which contains a sub report. But the problem is when i deployed my rdl in my report server,my sub report wont show : "Error SubReport could not be shown".
But still, when i also deployed my sub report for that main report, still, it wont show.. what could be the reason for this?? Thanks...
I would like to be able to deploy a report to a particular folder in the report server. It seems when I deploy a report it always shows up in the root even after I have moved it into another folder where I wish it to reside.
I have a question about Report services scale out deployment.
In the technet document it states that reporting services must be Enterprise edition for scale out deployment functionality, does anyone know if the database engine has to be Enterprise also, or can it be standard edition?
Here is the article excerpt from technet:
The Reporting Services edition must be Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. Standard edition does not support a scale-out deployment. You can create a scale-out deployment using a combination of editions as long as the edition supports the scale-out feature.
I'm using the reports designer in Visual Studio 2005 Professional and have successfully been deploying reports to my client's server for several months. Now I can't deploy any reports, when I try Visual Studio almost hangs, tries for about 5 minutes to deploy a single report and then fails with an error message:
TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer ------------------------------ A connection could not be made to the report server http://winserver/ReportServer. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The operation has timed out (System.Web.Services) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------
It used to ask me for username/password for the server (credentials), now it doesn't do that. I can go to the reports server and reports interface pages in my browser OK. The reports build without any errors.
Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to get it working again?
I just asked you about how to hide the sub report from showing it in the drop down list. I have done it with the report manager [Report properties--> general --> Hide in Listview]. I am using RSBuild tool to automatically deploy the reports.I don't know what modification I have to make in the RSBuild code to incorporate this new functionality[Hiding sub report]. Can you please let me know how to do it?
I am using the following code, The description property is working correctly. But the Hide in List view property is not working. Property[] properties = new Property[2];
Property Prop1 = new Property(); Property Prop2 = new Property();
Currently within the Configuration manager you are able to set the Target Deployment parameters such as serverurl , folder etc.. However is there a way to set the Datasource within these configuration settings. For example we have Dev,Demo, and Production sql servers that ideally would be set to to switch with their corresponding deployment target areas DEV,Prod,Demo Reporting service servers. However as it stands I find myself having to manually change the datasets to point to different Servers for testing and then back to the production when its ready to roll out.
did I miss some feature that allows me to do this within the vs ide or does this have to be done programatically?
