Convert Date Time(string Format) To Database Timestamp

Apr 3, 2008

I have two fields DSRHADTI which is an isodate and DSRHTIME which is 8 char time field in format 10.31.00. I want to take both these fields and put them into a field that is database timestamp so I have converted DSRHDATI to 10 character field. I am then trying to use substring to put both into 18 character field using derived column transformation editor. but it does not like the below. It's red syntax error what am I missing.

(SUBSTRING(Copy of DSRHDATI,1,4) +' /' + SUBSTRING( Copy of DSRHDATI,6,2) + '/ ' + SUBSTRING(Copy of DSRHDATI,9,2)) + SUBSTRING(DSRHTIME,1,2) + '.' + SUBSTRING(DSRHTIME,4,2) + '.' + SUBSTRING(DSRHTIME,7,2)

One I get the above to work I plan on convert 18 char to datetimestamp.

Am I on the right track on how to do this?

RowVersion/Timestamp To String

Feb 12, 2008

I have a RowVersion/Timestamp column in my table. I check against the RowVersion/Timestamp column when updating rows to check if a row has been updated by another user. I would like to call RAISERROR with a custom message which indicates the current RowVersion/Timestamp of the row in question.

What data type do I convert the RowVersion/Timestamp column into so I can make it part of the custom message which will be a string?

If I convert the RowVersion/Timestamp column into a bigint column, will the max value of RowVersion/Timestamp ever exceed the max value of a bigint? For example, convert(bigint, MyRowVersionColumn)

If the max value of the RowVersion/Timestamp column can exceed the max value for a bigint column, can I convert the RowVersion/Timestamp into a hex string?

Basically RowVersion/Timestamp columns are binary(8) or varbinary(8) so the question could also be answered if it is known if binary(8) can exceed the max value of bigint or if binary(8) can be converted into a hex string

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Converting Timestamp To Varchar Or Concatenating It With A String

Sep 20, 2007

Hello,

I apologise if this question has been asked before but I have searched forums and the web and have not found a solution. I am current creating a script that has a cursor that builds a sql statement to be executed e.g.

--code within cursor

SELECT '
DECLARE @Result INT
EXEC @Result = DELETE_DOCUMENT
@DocumentID = ' + STR(DocumentID) + ',
@TimeStamp =' + CAST([Timestamp] as varchar) + ',

-- CHECK RESULT AND STATUS
-- IF OK LOG IN META_BATCH ELSE LOG ERROR' AS SQL
FROM Document

The problem I am having is trying to join the timestamp column into the sql string. I have tried to cast the time stamp to a varchar but I end up with the following output for the timestamp column values

T
T€‘
T
xnÞ
T!
T"
T#
T$
T%
T&
T'
T(
T)
T*
T+
T,

instead of

0x0000000013540F1C
0x0000000013540F1E
0x0000000013540F1F
0x0000000013786EDE
0x0000000013540F21
0x0000000013540F22
0x0000000013540F23
0x0000000013540F24
0x0000000013540F25
0x0000000013540F26
0x0000000013540F27
0x0000000013540F28
0x0000000013540F29
0x0000000013540F2A
0x0000000013540F2B
0x0000000013540F2C

which would not allow my delete script to work correctly. So I would really appreciate some advice to a pointer to where I might find out how to convert the timestamp.

Thanks
Sam

Error While Converting Oracle Timestamp To Sql Server Timestamp (datetime) - Invalid Date Format

Jun 19, 2007

I am populating oracle source in Sql Server Destination. after few rows it fails it displays this error:

[OLE DB Destination [16]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description:

I used this script component using the following code in between the adapters, However after 9,500 rows it failed again giving the same above error:

To convert Oracle timestamp to Sql Server timestamp

If Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST_IsNull = False Then

If IsDate(DateSerial(Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Year, Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Month, Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Day)) Then

dt = Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST

Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUSTD = dt

End If

End If

I don't know if my code is right . Please inform, how i can achieve this.

Get Row Timestamp With No Timestamp Column

Jul 10, 2007

For starters, please feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum.

The issue I have is this. I have been asked to delete all information from a table that was inserted before May 12 this year. The issue is that when the DB was created, whoever designedd it neglected to add a timestamp column for the user data table (the one I need to purge). Does SQL, by default, happen to store insert times? Would it be something that might hide ina log file somewhere?

o.Item Description returns the full string as a parameter but when it is written to the database it only writes the first letter in the database field. The column is set up as a VARCHAR with a a field length of 50 which is more than enough. Is there something I am doing wrong or missing out?

Reading Data From A String Into A SQL Database

Jan 18, 2007

Hi, i'm writing a SOCKET Port Listener for a Database, it must be multi-threaded and listen on a port for a record that when it comes in, it must write the record to the SQL database (MS SQL Server). I've got the listener to read the data over the port already and write the record into a string which i have already sliced up. Now i need to create a connection to the database and insert the variables into the database.

If Someone will please be able to give me a rough idea of how i could accomplish this with some sample code, then i will be greatful, i'm new to C#, but here is my code that i have so far.

//This is the Connection that i have made and where i am currently stuck, i dunno how to go further. Any help will be welcome.

public class ConnectionToMSDatabase

public void InsertDataIntoDatabase(string TableName, string connectionString, string dataFields)
{
string InsertSQLStatement;
InsertSQLStatement = "INSERT INTO " + TableName + " VALUES (" + dataFields + ")";

ConnectionToDatabase.Open();
OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand();
command.Connection = ConnectionToDatabase;
command.CommandText = InsertSQLStatement;
command.ExecuteNonQuery();
command.Connection.Close();
}
}

//Here is my connection string, all the retrieved data is stored in a string array call fullRecord

How To Use A Url Query String Value To Access A Database Record With The Same Value.

Jan 23, 2008

Ok, to start I will say I am a novice so detailed solutions are much appreciated.  I believe I am on the right track. Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have a page that uses an xml driven google map.  When you click on the map marker, the info bubble displays brief information about a community and a link specified from the xml file.  I have specified the links in the xml file to pass a query string variable ex: /community.aspx?name=uniqueCommunityNameHere. I tested this by simply placing a label on the community.aspx page that restated the "name" value - works fine (first commented out line of Page_Load).  Now I need to complete my VB function that pulls the data record from the database - based on the parameter input from the query string - when the page loads.  So if the user clicks the link on the marker for community1, it will populate community.aspx with info about community1 from the database... if they click community7 it will display that community info etc.
Data Table: "Community" Data Fields: ID, Name, Description, Address, City, State, Phone, SalesRep.
ASPX Page Design Elements: lblID, lblName, lblDesc, lblAddress.... etc.
Here is my start... I will need help with the sql statement for sure - how do I create a where clause from the query string parameter passed in?
Thanks so much for your help!

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load'My initial test to see that the query string is working       lblName.Text = Request("name").ToString()
' Get the community info when loading community.aspx for the user selected communityIf Not IsPostBack ThenLoadCommunityInfo(Request("name").ToString())End IfEnd SubPrivate Sub LoadCommunityInfo(ByVal community)' Define data objectsDim conn As SqlConnectionDim comm As SqlCommandDim reader As SqlDataReader
' Read the connection string from Web.configDim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("CONHTConnectionString").ConnectionString' Initialize connectionconn = New SqlConnection(connectionString)' Create commandcomm = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Community WHERE Name = " & community, conn)' Enclose database code in Try-Catch-FinallyTry' Open the connectionconn.Open()' Execute the commandreader = comm.ExecuteReader()' Populate the list of community information -> Make the labels.text = the database fields --> lblName.text = table-Community field-"Name"lblName.Text = "Name"lblDesc.Text = "Description"....' Close the readerreader.Close()Catch' Display error messagedbErrorLabel.Text = "Error loading the community information!<br />"Finally' Close the connectionconn.Close()End TryEnd Sub

SQL Script To Search All Tables In A Database For A Particular String?

Apr 9, 2008

Is their a way to search every table in a database for a particular character string that might appear in any column in any of the tables?

For example suppose in a hypothetical situation that the character string "http://www.DrSeusOnTheLoose.com" appears randomly in a database, but we do not know which tables it occurs in and in what columns. How can we do a search to find such a character string?

As you know, this is easily accomplished in MS Windows XX or through a dos command line script. But when it comes to searching a whole database, I don't know how to do this. Can someone please help me?

I'm used to DTS but new to SSIS. What's a good reference/tutorial that deals with transforming columns of data (from a flat file) from one format to another when uploading into SQL2005? Typically columns of data have "" around the values and spaces that I want to remove.

Presumably in SSIS I need the following:

A Data flow task containing:

Flat file source
Derived or Copy Column?
OLE DB Destination

Is this on the right track?

Thanks
Gerry

Using Query String Against A Date Column In Database

Apr 27, 2015

I am having trouble trying to filter my sql database using the query string against a date column in my database.  I set a date variable = "dd/mm/yyy" format but when I apply that in the sql query as:

StartPeriod = CDate("01/" & Today.Month.ToString & "/" & Today.Year.ToString)
EndPeriod = CDate(Today.Day.ToString & "/" & Today.Month.ToString & "/" & Today.Year.ToString)

At this point StartPeriod = #04/01/2015#  and EndPeriod is #04/27/2015#

sql = "SELECT * FROM Transactions WHERE  ((PaidOutDate IS Null) OR (TransDate >= '" & StartPeriod & "' AND TransDate <= '" & EndPeriod & "')

When I execute the Sql command I get this error:

"Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string"

My Current Culture is {en-AU}

Connection String For Remote Database Connectivity(SQL Server2000)

Jun 12, 2007

hai,
I am working on ASP.NET 2003 with SQLServer2000. My application requires to be connected to the Database which is there in my Headoffice.
My SQLServerName is "MyDBServerTestDB"
Database Name is "WebTO", UserID="******" and Password="******"
My Remote Server IP Address is "192.168.1.2" and its Static IP is "58.93.61.235"
I have specified the Connection string for my Remote Server as
"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Server=58.93.61.235TestDB;UID=******;PWD=******;Database=WebTO"
                               (or)
"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Server=58.93.61.235TestDB,1433;UID=******;PWD=******;Database=WebTO"           (1433 is the Port number of the Remote SQLServer)
but it is giving the error " SQL Server does not exist or access denied".
if i execute the same application at my Headoffice (Remote Server) by changing the Connection string as
"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Server=192.168.1.2TestDB;UID=******;PWD=******;Database=WebTO"
then, it is working fine.
Can anyone tell me where i went wrong or what i have to specify in my Connection string so that i can access my Remote Database Server.
Thanks in Advance,
Srinivas.

Connection String To SQL Server 2005 Express Database

Apr 10, 2008

Hi, all. I am using VS.NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express. I tried to use the following code to connect to a database named "AMSPROD" that I attached to SQL Server 2005 Express:
 dbConn = new OleDbConnection(Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAMSPROD_Data.MDF";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True);
dbConn.Open();
I got an error asking for provider with the above connection string, then I changed the conncection string to be like follows:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAMSPROD_Data.MDF";Provider=SQLNCLI;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
I got error: No error message available, result code: DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED(0x80040E21)
Then I changed the Provider to be like: Provider=SQLOLEDB, now I am getting the following error:
Message: "Invalid authorization specification
Invalid connection string attribute"
Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"
StackTrace: " at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal..ctor(OleDbConnectionString constr, OleDbConnection connection)
at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionFactory.CreateConnection(DbConnectionOptions options, Object poolGroupProviderInfo, DbConnectionPool pool, DbConnection owningObject)
at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.CreateNonPooledConnection(DbConnection owningConnection, DbConnectionPoolGroup poolGroup)
at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection)
at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory)
at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open()
at ISESAMSData.DbConnections.MakeConnection() in C:\ISES\ISESCommon\ISESAMSData\DbConnections.cs:line 74"
TargetSite: {Void .ctor(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionString, System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection)}
Strange thing is, when I use the Connect To Database under Tool menu of VS.NET 2005, I could make the connection to this database. Then I copied this connection string to the code, the connection couln't be made. I feel very confused.
I am wondering if I need to add ASP.NET user to SQLExpress. But I don't know how to do it?
Can anyone please help me out! Many thanks!

[HELP!] How Do You Make The Database Path Relative In The Connection String?

Oct 10, 2006

Hi everyone,

I am working on a Hospital Information System project with a team of 6.Each one of us builds or modifies a part of the system and shares the project over a common repository. The problem here is that we use the absolute path of the database in our connection string. Although the directory structure of our project is the same for each member, since the main project folder itself is stored in different locations on each person's computer (for example, one may have it stored in c:My Documents and the other in d: My Documents), we are forced to modify the connection string manually each time someone else from the team updates the repository with the database. How do we make the path of the database relative so that we don't have to modify the connection string manually each time after receiving an update from the repository?

Your help is greatly appreciated.
