Trying To Save Editted Textbox Value In Table But Original Value Saves Instead - Trouble With Table Update Query

Jan 9, 2008

This program gets the values of A and B passed in. They are for table columns DXID and CODE. The textbox GET1 is initialized to B when the page is loaded. When I type another value in GET1 and try to save it, the original initialized value gets saved and not the new value I just typed in. A literal value, like "222" saves but the new GET1.TEXT doesn't.

Importing A Table W/Query Analyzer-Question!

Jun 28, 2004

I am trying to import a sql table with Query Analyzer. I opened up the Query Analyzer, found the sql table I needed, opened it and it read everything in the table. I see the execution script that defines the headers and the data type for all the columns and the information populated below that. So I told it to "Run".

It says it is executing the query batch, I see the globe spinning like it is doing something, it says it is on line 10, row 43 (whatever that means), so it appears to be still working.

I stopped one of the Query Analyzers and noticed this message: "The name 'T' is not permitted in this context. Only constants, expressions, or variables allowed here. Column names are not permitted"

One of the many lines that it began having issues with this is:
insert into TABLENAME values(1,'AAVS','ANALYZER','S310','','357C','855','776493','DIG VID ANLZR CORE MOD','P','VOTE5WBKAA',207610,'207610--1','CO','','1','','1','S310','ADVANCED AUDIO VISUAL SYSTEMS',T);

It appears that it does not much care for the 'T' at the end of each row. Is this required? Is there a way to take it out of the entire table before running it again?

Is there a way to choose what information I want to populate?

Currently the header script shows this:
CREATE TABLE TABLENAME (
BCKEY Numeric,
MFG Character(4),
DWG Character(11),
LIST Character(25),
SERIES Character(6),
FRC Character(5),
ECN Character(3),
CPR Character(6),
DSC Character(22),
EQTYPE Character(2),
CLEI Character(10),
ECI Numeric,
BARCODE Character(9),
OS Character(2),
OFC Character(2),
UC Character(2),
FILLER Character(8),
INDCODE Character(1),
PN Character(25),
EPN Character(39),
DWGNN Logical);

insert into TABLENAME values(1,'AAVS','ANALYZER','S310','','357C','855','776493','DIG VID ANLZR CORE MOD','P','VOTE5WBKAA',207610,'207610--1','CO','','1','','1','S310','ADVANCED AUDIO VISUAL SYSTEMS',T);

What if I only want some of these fields? Is there a way to tell it that I only want: BCKEY, MFG, LIST, SERIES, DSC, EQTYPE, CLEI, PN & EPN? The rest I do not want, so can I take the rest out somehow?

Thanks,

Save OLAP Query Results To Relational Table

Nov 15, 2007

I have cubes that hold quite a few calculations and so creating Excel pivot table views from it take a long time. This is even true for Excel 2007.

Now I wonder if it would be possible to write back all the calculation results to a relational table - maybe one that exactly matches the report format - so creating another report would be much faster?

SSRS seems to be a way to go but it does not speed up my Excel case.

I read about write-back in ROLAP and MOLAP but I don't think any of these concepts help me to really speed up my reports.

The closest thing I was able to find so far, which besides seems to do exactly what I want is Microsoft's new PerformancePoint 2007. It's just it seems overkill for my projects and the price is at $20K.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Regarding The Query To Save The Ids Of The Edited Names From Different Tables Into A Single Table.

Mar 8, 2008

Here with the below query iam binding my gridview with industry name,company name,Plant Name,Group Name related to the IDs in Audit table.Select Aud.Ad_ID_PK,Aud.Audit_Name,Ind.Industry_Name,Cmp.Company_Name,Pla.Plant_Name,Gr.Groups_Name,Aud.Audit_Started_On,Aud.Audit_Scheduledto,Aud.Audit_Created_On from
Industry Ind,
Company Cmp,
Plant Pla,
Groups Gr,
Audits Audwhere Ind.Ind_Id_PK =Aud.Audit_Industry and
Cmp.Cmp_ID_PK =Aud.Audit_Company and
Pla.Pl_ID_PK =Aud.Audit_Plant and
Gr.G_ID_PK =Aud.Audit_Group and
Ad_ID_PK in (select Ad_ID_PK from Audits)
Now i want to edit these names.
when i click on edit in gridview these names will be filled into textboxes and when i change the names it should compare the name with particular tables and should get the Id of that and store in Audits table.
For example:
i have this data in my audits table:

Commercial83312

2
2
2
1
Here Commercial83312 is ID of that Audit and 2,2,2,1 are the Industry,Company,Plant and group Ids for that particular audit.In the front end i can see the names of this particular IDs.
when i edit the industry name in the UI it must check the name with industry table and get the ID of the changed name and store it in audit table.
so the data may be changed in audits table as :

Commercial83312

4
2
2
1

so here the industry ID is changed
I need the stored procedure for this.
please help me,its very urgent...

Programatically Query Database And Save Report In An Excel Table

May 2, 2007

Hello All,

I am working on constructing a software layer around some features of the RDL language that would allow me to programatically generate reports.

I am reading the RDL specification language, and I do not understand three things:

1) How the DataSet element is populated by the query or more precisely how do the <Field> elements capture all the rows inside the table that is being queries?

To my understanding I wilkl have to define several fields that correspond to all columns of interest in the query.

But that is only for one row (?!) How do the rest of the rows get populated? Does the server recursively create new rows based on my definitions until it matches row for row all the data in the table?

2) Once the elements are inside a DataSet how do make use of that data to render it in a table.

I understand how the DataSource, DataSet, and Table work individually, yet I do not understand how to establish a flow of data between DataSet and Table.

3) Do I even need to use a <Table> as an RDL element in order to organize the data in an excel table?

I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Slow Query With Table Containing Image

Sep 25, 2007

Hi,

I have a table defined as such:
PosterArtId int no 4 10 0 no (n/a) (n/a) NULL
Graphic image no 16 yes (n/a) (n/a) NULL
GraphicFilename varchar no 50 no no no SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

I have a Stored Procedure defined in the database that queries this table (joins with some other tables) that takes about 1 1/2 minutes to return results (running directly in query analyzer). The table itself has 8900 records and the resulting stored procedure returns 33 rows.

I have backed up this database and restored it to another database on a different machine also running SQL Server 2000. When I run the same stored procedure on this 2nd database (note the contents of the database and this table are exactly the same), it runs very quickly - in about 2 seconds.

I'm trying to figure out what is causing the query to run so slow on the original database, which is our production database server (note that none of the other queries seem to be running extra slow on this machine, just this particular one).

I've since been reading up on storing images in the database and I don't think the images are stored "text in row" - I ran the command: €œSELECT OBJECTPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID('tblPosterArt'),'TableTextInRowLimit')€? and got a 0 return value.

My ultimate goal is to figure out:
1) why the timing is so different on the two databases even though the have the same data
2) is there something we can do to speed up the results on our production server

For the first goal, I'm heading down the path that something in the database backup/restore did not recreate the btree storage of the image data in the same manner. Would this be correct? If not, is there some kind of analysis that I can do that will tell me some useful information?

I've run the Stored Procedure for both databases in query analyzer with the "show execution plan", "trace", and "statistics" turned on. In the Execution Plan of the production database I see a significant amount of time in three areas: Nested Loops/Left Semi Join, Clustered Index Scan, and Clustered Index Seek. But being as I'm not a dba (nor do we have one on staff), I'm not sure how to interpret this data. I keep wanting to point to some sort of environment issue since the data is the same between the two machines.

I suppose there is nothing to do about the 2nd goal without knowing why the query on the one machine is taking so long. Any thoughts on how to get more information here?

Thanks,
Beth

Query Analyzer Runs The Query Instantly But ADO Can Take Forever???

Aug 29, 2001

THis is so annoying. I have 3 ADO executes in my program. THe first one creates a view, the second one performs an outer join on that view and returns a result set, the third execute drops the aforementioned view. THe program that is using this is installed on about 200 computers scattered across Germany and Italy, all querying the same MSsql server 7.0. THe queries run quite quick when few users are actively using the program (after hours for example). however in the heat of the day performance goes up and down dramatically with identical queries taking from 1 to 20 seconds to return their result set. Now I initially thought 'bandwidth issue out of our server'. However I noticed that if I take those three queries and run them from the sql server enterprise manager( running on the same computer as the aforementioned program) then the queries run instantly and the data is in my result pane in less than 2 seconds ALWAYS....even when the program is dogging it with 20 second delays before the result set returns. I know it is hanging on the return of the result set as I put a stop after before each ADO execute in order to check which one was eating up my time. Why is there this dichotomy between running the queries from my enterprise manager versus running them from an ADO object. Both are using TCP/IP (no named pipes involved). I havent monkied with the attributes of the ADO result set so they are all set to default.
I have used the sql server profiler to trace these queries and they always run in less than 33 milliseconds. THe duration is also never more than 33 milliseconds. THis stinks of a network resource issue but what always leads me somewhere else is how consistent the performance of the enterprise manager is when it runs the exact same three queries.

Here is my slightly edited connection string
Public Const connection_string = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=000.000.000.000;" & _
"User ID=johndoe;Password=janedoe;Network=dbmssocn;" & _
"database=fidojoe"

Here are the 3 ADO executes:
conn.Execute (sqlstr_create_view)
Set resultset1 = conn.Execute(sqlstr_get_providers_by_DMISID)
conn.Execute (sqlstr_drop_view)

Re-display Result Set Without Re-running Query In Query Analyzer?

Apr 9, 2006

I hope I am not asking about something that has been done before, but Ihave searched and cannot find an answer. What I am trying to do is torun a query, and then perform some logic on the rowcount and thenpossibly display the result of the query. I know it can be done withADO, but I need to do it in Query Analyzer. The query looks like this:select Varfrom DBwhere SomeCriteriaif @@Rowcount = 0select 'n/a'else if @@Rowcount = 1select -- this is the part where I need to redisplay the resultfrom the above queryelse if @@Rowcount > 1-- do something elseThe reason that I want to do it without re-running the query is that Iwant to minimize impact on the DB, and the reason that I can't useanother program is that I do not have a develpment environment where Ineed to run the queries. I would select the data into a temp table, butagain, I am concerned about impacting the DB. Any suggestions would begreatly appreciated. I am really hoping there is something as simple as@@resultset, or something to that effect.

Determine Fastest Query In Query Analyzer

Sep 17, 2005

I am trying to determine which of three stored procedure designs arefastest in the Query Analyzer:One query is a straight SELECT query with all desired rows and a dozen(tblName.RowName = @param or @param = Null) filters in the WHEREstatement.One query populates a #Temp table with the UniqueIDs from the resultsof the SELECT query in the above example, then joins that #Temp tableto get the desired rows.One query users EXEC sp_executesql @sql, @paramlist, @paramin which the @param has the dozen filters.What I'm trying to determine is which is the fastest.Each time I run the query in Query Analyzer it returns the samerecordset (duh!) but with much different Time Statistics.Are the Time Statisticts THE HOLY QRAIL as far as determining which isfastest, and what so I want to look at, the Vale or the Average? Inotice there are different numbers of bytse sen and bytes received foreach of the three queries.Any illumination on this is appreciated.lq
