I am using the IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDASQL OLE DB Provider to import data via query (in a tranformation task) to a SQL2000 server within a DTS package.
Works great! However, the provider does not save my (iSeries) password although I choose this option. I really need the password to be saved so that I can schedule the DTS package... I don't want to have to login and run the package each time (even IT guys take vacations). Or at least I don't want to have to login everytime the server is restarted...

Perhaps I am ignorant, but, I can not find any configuration setting within DTS that will allow me to save the password for the IBMDASQL OLE DB provider. Nor have I been able to find a suitable solution to this by using the keywords search string of "package configuration" within the MSDN forums.
As a workaround, I can use the an ODBC connection along with a DSN file to save the username and password. However, I do not want this information sitting out there in plain text. I would like to use the OLE DB provider and store the username and password on the SQL server as the properties dialog says that I should be able to. Or I can define a UDL (still text file).[Or I can use an ODBC connection set up as a system DSN - I want to use the OLE DB provider]
I've read about adding a connection string to .Net's machine.config file - but, I do not want to use the .NET OLE DB provider and, again, I do not wish to store username and password information in plain text.
Is this a bug in as much as how SQL Server 2000 uses the IBMDASQL OLE DB provider?
I've called and spoke to an IBM tech in regard to this and was informed that the dialog box and error regarding the password are not IBM generated, but rather MS generated.
User A creates the SSIS Package and provides the password for the connection manager for a task (for OLE DB source) with SQL authentication.Â
When User B tries to run the SSIS package, the error is thrown as : The package may be damaged.
On typing the password again inside the connection manager, the execution occurs successfully. Is there any workaround to save the password permamanently for the connection manager rather than each user entering it in order to run the package ?
Is it possible to set up an ODBC connection on a domain computer that does not prompt for the SA password? When using Microsoft Access with linked tables to SQL, a prompt pops up asking for the SA password. Obviously it is not a good idea to give everyone the password. Any ideas?
I'm a SSiS newbie and I'm trying to reproduce my old DTS from sql server 2000 into this new SSiS.
I need to retrieve data through ODBC from a SAP db. I've got the right DNS and it works (Test connection succesful), but I'm unable to store password in connection manager.
I tryied to foigure out why and how to solve this problem, and I found somehthing on this forum talking about changing configuration files or something else... I'm a newbie, I don't know which files you're talking about..
Can you explain me in the simplest way possible how to store password in connection manager? thanks in advance
I have an SSIS package that pipes data from an iSeries data source to a SQL Server table. The connection manager I am using is the .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider
When I run this SSIS package on my developer PC (from inside BIDS or using the Management Studio Execute Package Utility) it works. However when I run the package from within a SQL Server Agent Job it fails.
I have enabled logging and the error message given is: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4 ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4 It gives the message €œPassword length = 0€? despite the fact that I have specified a password in the package.
To try to get around this I have added an XML configuration file to the SSIS package. In this configuration file I€™ve set values for the ConnectionString, UserName, and Password. I still get the above error about a password length of 0.
I have also tried to execute the package using dtexec, but this gives a similar error. The SQL used to run this is: xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /sq "SCSRV-06DTS PackagesStagingStagingBranchImport"'
This has got me stumped, and I€™m not sure where to go from here as these packages need to be programmatically run each morning. At the moment I am manually running them from within BIDS. All packages that don€™t use an iSeries connection manager run successfully in SQL Agent jobs. I have also tried using the OLEDB connection manager (ibm db2 udb for iseries ibmda400 ole db provider) without success.
Hello, I have a package that contains an ADO.NET connection mananger using an ODBC provider. There is a user name and password configured in the connection mananger. The connection is to a DB2 database.
I install the package on SSIS by setting the package ProtectionLevel to ServerStorage. I then save the package to the server using FileSave Copy of (package name), and save it to the server. I also set the protection level there to use server storage.
When I enable package configurations (SQL Server), the package fails when run by a Job. In the log, I get the following error message from the DataReader source that uses the connection manager:
****** System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [08001] [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING"). SQLSTATE=08001 at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction) **** The DataReader fails validation. When I disable package configurations, the Job executes the package without a problem. The server that the package runs on is 64 bit.
Why do I have this password problem when package configurations are enabled? The connection manager password is include in the package configurations.
I am trying to automate a basic task using SQL Server 2005 Express.
Currently I have a query script that I run and then save the results as a CSV file. I need to do this on a daily basis and so I am looking to find out how best to go about this. There are a multitude of third party tools that claim to be able to do this - can anyone recommend this or enlighten me of the best way to set up this automation.
I have connected to Database using my credentials by checking remember password option. After few days I forgot my password. How can I recover the password as SQL remember it. Is there any way to recover my password instead of resetting it.
I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure! However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it. If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.
I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.
This is driving me insane! I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..
The code I use is: DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
and I get
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF
although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.
Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?
I am receiving the following error message when attempting to create a new SQL Authenticated login id.
Password validation failed. The password does not meet the requirements of the password filter DLL. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15119)
I have four servers all running SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP1. Of the four servers, only one received the above error message using the same TSQL below.
CREATE LOGIN TEST_LOGIN WITH PASSWORD = 'pvif9dal' MUST_CHANGE, CHECK_EXPIRATION = ON
All four servers are in the same domain, which if I understand correctly, the password policies are therefore inherited at the OS level by the domain. The password being used is within the password policies of the domain.
I tried to install an ALLDATA database which run with SQL Server 2005 express edition. The data base fails to install becase of the following code that come up which is related to AS password requirement. The error that come up is:

I am trying to install this database in a network server operating under Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please let me.
I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.
When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.5.51650
SQL Server Integration Services   Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer Version 12.0.1524.0
And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.
I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.5.50938
SQL Server Integration Services   Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer Version 12.0.1524.0
why i can not see the ODBC 64 bit system DSN connection from SSIS in my production server ?
I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".
When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.
How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?
I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.
I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this posting. Looking at the descriptions, it appeared to be the best choice.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?
On the login prompt for Report Server, there is a checkbox option to "Remember my Password." I check this, login successfully... but when returning to the Report Server, I am again prompted for the password, although the user name is saved. No matter how many times I do this, the password will not save in IE7. I have tried this on 3 different computers with IE7. In IE 6, I do not even get the checkbox as an option, just the user name/password prompt. In Firefox, the password saves fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?
Hi all,I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP.The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing withOracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB forODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBCfor Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior.Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get thefollowing errorOLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL"for linked server "ODBCBEAST".I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with noproblems andwhy other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything aboutthe system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I haveabsolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connectionis good. This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10gODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery selectagainst the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that thedatabase has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBCdriver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffersetting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows.I'm at my wit's end.Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be muchappreciated. Thanks much
I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:
PHP Code:
$sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";
Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.
Please help share with me if you know the version compatibility matrix of Ms SQL Server, ODBC driver (sqlsrv32.dll), Driver Manager (odbc32.dll) and ODBC API spec. For instance, how can I know Ms SQL Server 2000 can work with which version of sqlsrv32.dll, a particular version of sqlsrv32.dll can work with which version of odbc32.dll and a certain version of sqlsrv32.dll/odbc32.dll conforms to which version of ODBC API spec (e.g. 3.5).
On localhost this application works fine but when I put on remote server. I am getting following errors. For both localhost and server, I am using same remote sql 2000. I will appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Arif

Please i need to save records using DataSet. I created the connectionstring as a global variable. In th button_Click event i have this : Protected Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim InsAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter Dim StrInsert As String = "insert into Products(CategoryId,ProductName,ProductCode,ProductPrice,) values(@CategoryId,@ProductName,@ProductCode,@ProductPrice)" Dim ObjComm As New SqlCommand(StrInsert, ObjConn) ObjComm.Parameters.Add("@CategoryId", SqlDbType.Int).Value = drpCategory.SelectedValue ObjComm.Parameters.Add("@ProductName", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 30).Value = txtName.Text ObjComm.Parameters.Add("@ProductCode", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 10).Value = txtCode.Text ObjComm.Parameters.Add("@ProductPrice", SqlDbType.Int).Value = txtPrice.Text InsAdapter.InsertCommand = ObjComm End Sub But on clicking the button, the record is never saved. I am currently migrating my application from Access to SQL. It looks like it's working good but one thing I cannot understand is why when I have created a varchar(40) field and after I insert a field that is less then 40 characters long, the rest of the string is filled with the leading spaces. I have also create an nchar(40) that did not solve it ether. For example: the text is "Hello World". The text is 11 characters long but the data saved to the table is: "Hello Wolrd" + 29 spaces. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help in advance.
When I open a DTS package, save it as a bas file, make changes, close the package and save it when prompted, where are my changes saved?
The answer appears to be nowhere. When I reopen the package it's back to it's original setup. When I check the bas file it's as it was when I originally saved it.
We have a table with 3.5 million records in it. We have been forced to add two fields and set indexes on those fields. But when we try to save the changes it times out. When we try to generate a change script it also times out. Is this a memeory issue? Any ideas on whats causing this or how to fix it woudl be greatly appriciated.
Hi, all. This might be a silly question... but I am very new to programming inSQL so please bear with me :)So. I'm using MS SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express. I have atable that was created via an existing .sql file. Included were abunch of stored procedures. I went in to re-format these procedures.(They were written in haste by another programmer. It is my task to goback and improve their readabilities.) However, I am having difficultyfiguring out how to save the changes to these stored procedures. Thusfar, I have been individually saving each stored procedure in itsown .sql file. This is obviously not the way to go... but it's atemporary solution (so as not to lose the changes I have made todozens of procedures). Can someone please explain to me how I commit these changes to thedatabase? Thanks,Allie
Using vb 2005 express I have my grid veiw on the form and a icon to click to save my work.
But is there a passage of code I can write to pop up a message box to remind me to save my work when I close my form. Similar to ms office forms when you close they ask you if you want to save any changes.
Is it better to have users that upload pictures have them saved to SQL server or to a folder? I have a site where users enter things that they own (and each item has a unique id) and now I would like to add the functionality to add a picture. I am sure I should use the fileUpload control, but should this save to a folder created for each user or to the SQL record itself? Or possibly a separate SQL table just for pictures? Thanks for the help.

Hello Im having a little problem getting some values from a database..... What I need is to get the value of the keyfield of the last entry introduced, I know how to to do the SQL statement for this, the problem is that i dont know how to save this value in a variable. I need to save this value in a variable in the session object or in a hidden field, and then use this variable in another different page. That's way i need to save this ID value, later in the other page I introduce data in a different table and one of the fields has to be this ID value which I have as a foreign key in the table so I need to use the same value in all the rows i introduce(Id value). If you know how to accomplish this let me know, many thanks, Sergio
