Saving DTS Package To Sql Server

Apr 5, 2006

hi,

I have a "Transfer sql server object task" in SSIS that transfers few tables from one database to another.

The task works fine and the project is saved on my c: drive.

I was trying to save the project on the SQL server and don't know if i am doing somehting wrong?

I have the following selections made:

Package Location: SQL server

Server: ServerName

Authentication Type: Windows

Package path: /TransferTables

Protection Level: Encrypt sensitive data with user key

Now when i hit ok i get the "No description found" error with the following details:

No description found (Microsoft Visual Studio)

Program Location:

at Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Controls.PackageLocationControl.SavePackage(Package package)
at Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design.Controls.PackageSaveCopyForm.PackageSaveCopyForm_FormClosing(Object sender, FormClosingEventArgs e)

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks for any help.

Parent Package Variables And SQL Package Store

Aug 23, 2007

Hello All,
I have a Master Package which calls a group of other packages out on the SSIS Package Store using parent / child and a number of variables. These seem to work when passing various audit information (audit key, record counts, etc) but when I try to pass a variable for the connection string and assign it via an expression to the connection manager, I get the Master Package writing to the correct database and the children package writing to their "default" database which is supplied as the default value in the variables which should be populated by the parent task.

i.e., I end up with my master package audit information in database a and child package audit and transactions in database b, even though the packages associated with these transactions are supposed to be reading the connection string from a parent variable. Any clues or suggestions?

Edit: It is still passing along the correct parent audit information and record counts, it's just not connecting to the correct database by the variables holding the connect string

Thanks for your time.

SSIS Package Store And Sql Server

Jul 18, 2006

Hi everyone,

Just a question, generally speaking, when you€™re going to save a dtsx package, what are the main differences between SSIS Package Store and Sql Server?

-When you choose ssis package store option you can save the package in:

/MSDB/Maintenance Plans/ mypackage (it saves to sysdtspackges90)
/File System/mypackage (are we asuming that sql is going to save it on the folder where .dtproj project file is?)

-When you choose sql server option:

/Maintenance Plans/mypackage (it saves to sysdtspackges90)

Thanks for your comments.

I know there were DTS package ownership bugs in SQL 7 - but I thought these had been cleaned up with the latest SP.

DTS Package: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION When Saving

Aug 15, 2007

My team is getting this message when altering a DTS Package, using SQL 2000 DTS Designer. We have downloaded all the SQL updates (Backward Compatibility, and the one specifically for DTS Save problems. Have tried this in SQL2005 as well. Have uninstalled both of these programs, and reinstalled on local machines. No avail. Here is what happens:

1) Editing an existing DTS Package, such as a Text Change, or simple connection change
2) Saving the file creates the exact message below:

Package Error
Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package
Error Description: Code execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

3) Then you have to choose OK in the windows Popup Box.
4) The DTS is brought back to the original screen, or completely exited out of Designer.
5) From that point, the Package can no longer be opened for editing, unless you open a previous version (which means changes aren't saved.

We have also tried to SAVE AS another filename. This doesn't work either.

Our team has close to 75 DTS Packages, some simple, some more complex. We are corrupting these left and right. This problem happens no matter what is created in the DTS Package.

This is running into our business operations, and we are unable to find out a resolution...HELP

Any insight in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

SQL Server 2008 :: Importing SSIS Package Into File Store And Calling It Within A Job

Oct 9, 2015

I've imported an SSIS package into Management Studio (2008 R2) and I've set up a SQL Server Agent job to call the package but it fails due to error code: 0xc00160aa.

As far as I can tell this is because it is unable to read the location of the package despite it being a file system location within Management studio. Also I can run the package manually within Management Studio, but when I try to call it via the job it fails.

Saving DTS Package Appears To Work But Doesn't

Jul 11, 2001

I have several DTS packages saved 'locally' to the SQL server. I want to duplicate a package, so that I can make some changes then replace the original. I certainly don't want to rebuild the entire package from scratch. So, I open up the original package, go to the 'Package' menu and choose 'Save As', then give it a new name and press OK. No errors, all appears well, the title bar even shows the new name of the package. But, when I close the package and go the the 'local' package list, it (the new package name) doesn't appear in the list. Refresh, exit SEM, reboot - doesn't show up. I even looked in the MSDB table where packages are supposed to be stored (at least the name / package id / etc), and it doesn't show there as well. Tried from several client machines.

OS: Windows 2000 Server (advanced) SP2
SQL: SQL 2000 Server (no SP's)

Any help would be great.

IBMDASQL OLE DB Provider Not Saving Password In DTS Package

May 14, 2007

Greetings,

I am using the IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDASQL OLE DB Provider to import data via query (in a tranformation task) to a SQL2000 server within a DTS package.

Works great! However, the provider does not save my (iSeries) password although I choose this option. I really need the password to be saved so that I can schedule the DTS package... I don't want to have to login and run the package each time (even IT guys take vacations). Or at least I don't want to have to login everytime the server is restarted...

Has anyone run accross this and found a solution?

Many thanks in advance.

IBMDASQL OLE DB Provider Not Saving Password In DTS Package

May 15, 2007

Greetings,

I am using the IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDASQL OLE DB Provider to import data via query (in a tranformation task) to a SQL 2000 server within a DTS package.

Works great! However, the DTS package(?) does not save my (iSeries) password although I choose this option. I really need the password to be saved so that I can schedule the DTS package... I don't want to have to login and run the package each time (even IT guys take vacations). Or at least I don't want to have to login everytime the server is restarted...

Perhaps I am ignorant, but, I can not find any configuration setting within DTS that will allow me to save the password for the IBMDASQL OLE DB provider. Nor have I been able to find a suitable solution to this by using the keywords search string of "package configuration" within the MSDN forums.

As a workaround, I can use the an ODBC connection along with a DSN file to save the username and password. However, I do not want this information sitting out there in plain text. I would like to use the OLE DB provider and store the username and password on the SQL server as the properties dialog says that I should be able to. Or I can define a UDL (still text file).[Or I can use an ODBC connection set up as a system DSN - I want to use the OLE DB provider]

I've read about adding a connection string to .Net's machine.config file - but, I do not want to use the .NET OLE DB provider and, again, I do not wish to store username and password information in plain text.

Is this a bug in as much as how SQL Server 2000 uses the IBMDASQL OLE DB provider?

I've called and spoke to an IBM tech in regard to this and was informed that the dialog box and error regarding the password are not IBM generated, but rather MS generated.

I hope that there is a solution to my problem.

Has anyone run accross this and found a solution?

Many thanks in advance.

Saving SSIS Package Connection Passwords

Jul 11, 2007

Hello All,

I'm new to SQL 2005. I am setting up some SSIS packages which will connect to an Oracle database and copy some tables from it. These packages will then be scheduled to run on a daily basis. Because they will run automatically, it is required that passwords be saved along with the connection string. However, even though the password is saved (and encrypted, I checked the .dtsx in notepad), when I run the package, the connection to Oracle fails. Only if I respecify the password does it run correctly. How can I correctly save this password so that I can schedule automatic execution? Thanks for any info.

Saving DTS Package In Meta Data Services Error

Apr 27, 2004

I am running SQL Server 2000 SP3 and I am trying to save a DTS package into Meta Data Services and I am receiving the following "Package Error"

Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package
Error Description: General Error -2147217355 (80041035).

I have searched for this error and I cannot find anything related to it. Also, I saw some of the comments about right clicking "Data Transformation Services" and checking the box for allow save to Meta Data Services, however, I do not see that checkbox to allow for this. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? I'm beginning to get very frustrated with it.

Execution Of Child Package From Parent Package In Sql Server 2005 Integration Services

May 21, 2007

Hi,

I created a package which passes some infornmations( through parameters) to its child package.

I need to do some processing in parent package based on execution status of child package.i.e.

if child fails then some operation and if child succeeds then other operation.

To determine the status of execution of child package I am using two differnt constraint ..one constraint is having value "Success" and other having value "Failure".

My problem is that when child packge is executed successfully the constraint with value = "Success" works properly but when child fails the constraint with value "Failure" does not work.

Problem When Running A SSIS Master-package-child Package On Non Default Sql-server Instance

Dec 6, 2007

Hi there

We have a SSIS run which runs as follows

The master package has a configuration file, specifying the connect strings
The master package passes these connect-strings to the child packages in a variable
Both master package and child packages have connection managers, setup to use localhost. This is done deliberately to be able to test the packages on individual development pc€™s.
We do not want to change anything inside the packages when deploying to test, and from test to production. All differences will be in the config files (which are pretty fixed, they very seldom change). That way we can be sure that we can deploy to production without any changes at all.

The package is run from the file system, through a job-schedule.

We experience the following when running on a not default sql-server instance (called dkms5253uedw)

Case 1:
The master package starts by executing three sql-scripts (drop foreign key€™s, truncate tables, create foreign key€™s). This works fine.

The master package then executes the first child package. We then in the sysdtslog get:

Error - €ścannot connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

The child package then executes OK, does all it€™s work, and finish. Because there has been an error, the master package then stops with an error.

Case 2:
When we run exactly the same, but with the connection strings in the config file pointing to the default instance (dkms5253), the everything works fine.

Case 3:
When we run exactly the same, again against the dkms5253uedw instance, but now with the exact same databases defined in the default instance, it also works perfect.

Case 4:
When we then stop the sql-server on the default instance, the package faults again, this time with

Error - €śtimeout when connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

And the continues as in the first case

From all this we conclude, that the child package tries to connect to the database before it knows the connection string it gets passed in the variable from the master package. It therefore tries to connect to the default instance, and this only works if the default instance is running and has the same databases defined. As far as we can see, the child package does no work against the default instance (no logging etc.).

We have tried delayed validation in the packages and in the connection managers, but with the same results (error).

So we are desperately hoping that someone can help us solve this problem.

Thanx,
/Nils M - Copenhagen

Run Package On Server CPU Is Done Through SQL Agent: How To Set User Variable In Package Then?

May 9, 2007

Hi,

I have packages stored in SQL store. I was letting users run the packages from a .net app that I made with

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Now I have noticed this causes the packages to run on the client pc cpu, as well as the network traffic is done via the client pc, in my particular case this is slow.

From the doc and in this forum I have found that you can run a package on the Server cpu through sql agent, let packages be run in a sql job. after that you can start a package from an application with the SQL sp_start_job .

But How do you set a user::varibale in a package if you have to start the package from a sql agent job ?

SSIS(msdb)/ SQLSERVER Package Store

Dec 28, 2007

I have a question about where package is stored if you select sqlserver or SSIS package store (msdb). Is both of these going to the same place sysdtspackages90. On one of my systems I was saving as sqlserver but when users created a job they where using SSIS package store msdb. This seems to be working, though I would have thought that they were to different locations. On another system when I did same thing the job failed, and looked like maybe it was running wrong version, but when I resaved project as SSIS package store(msdb) then it did work. Even though I had earlier saved that package under sql server. So on 1 system it looks like they are the same on the other system I am not sure.

So if you can clarify for me what the difference between the two areas are if any?

Here is my SP.

set @ExcelF = 'Passing My source file name and full path'

select @cmd = 'C:"program files (x86)""Microsoft SQL Server"100DTSBinnDTEXEC.exe /F "' + @ssispath + '"'

How To Store Column's Value From A Flat File Into A Package Variable?

Oct 7, 2007

I have a few flat files that will be retrieved from some SFTP server. One of the flat file will act as a terminal file where it will specify the total number of records expected in each other the flat file.

Data in the terminal.txt
FileName TotalRecords
File1 1000
File2 1500
File3 2000

So, before transforming the data from the flat file sources into the target destination, i wish to do a row count checking for each of the flat file source to make sure that the number of records in the flat file source is tally with the number of records specify in the terminal.txt file. I'm able to get the number of records in each of the flat file by using the RowCount component but don't know how to get the data out from the terminal.txt file in order to make a rowcount comparison.

Can any1 help me on this? Or is there any other way we can do to make sure that the flat file source is alright before proceeding with the data transformation task?

Thanks!

Package Changes Made And Saved Revert To Prior State When Package Closed And Re-opened

Jan 12, 2007

I copied and added an existing package as a new package to a project and have been having trouble with settings reverting to those for the original package after I modify and save the changes for the new package. Sometimes happens with the save itself, other times it happens when I close and re-open the package. Most cases are with connections that revert back to the original file reference, but there are also control flow and data flow elements that keep reverting back to either settings from the original package or defaults that result in the re-opened package being in error. Not sure how to get around this issue short of developing the new package from scratch which I'd rather not do since it is fairly complex. Any help anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks.
