In Crystal Reports, you could suppress the printing of a report if no rows were retrieved from the database server (ie: zero pages would be sent to the printer). This was done by opening the Report Properties dialog in the report designer and setting the "Suppress Printing if No Records" to true.
Is there a way I can reproduce this behavior in SQL 2005 Reports?
I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.
For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.
I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.
I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row.However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.
I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.
Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?

I've a simple association rule experiment. I have one table: [STUDENT]. In this table there are lots of attributes. Likewise 30 of the columns contains a questionnaire that has some possible values : 1 (Strongly agree), 2(agree)... 6 (Disagree). I made a new table: [STUDENTPOLL] and i've coded a c# program which reads every student and insert the aggreed values to the new StudentPoll table as a new row.

This is my table structures. But there was only one table at the startup. My program reads all students and releated columns then creates second table. Is there a simply way that extract and transform these columns by a rule and load to the second table? Maybe in integration services. If there's a useful way it makes us very comfortly.

This is a 'what if' report. That the users want to fiddle with after it is generated.
I have item number, cost, sell price, and discount from the database. I calculate the gross profit and the percent from those fields. They want to take this report, save it to excel and then have the gross profit change when they enter a new discount amount.
I have tried to just enter the fields like they would look in excel but the report just shows A3 - A2. If I use the = before it will not run and says A3 is not defined. I have tried quotes, parenthesis, square brackets any thing that looked remotely possible in properties menu to have the values save as a formula.
I don't think it is possible but would like a second opinion.

We are running 2014 enterprise. Our users love to see related report sections saved in separate tabs of the same spreadsheet. Is there a way to control how ssrs will save a report to excel when it comes to tabs?
Are subreports a/the way (and only way) to do this?
By sections I mean they might have a grid, then another grid, then a graph then another graph and so on.
What property controls the tab name? What if they want to combine 2 or more sections into one tab?
When i click upload image button when my database table has no any row, the selected image is saved(one row saved in table). If i continue and select a different image, i get no error sa if the image has been saved but when i view the images i have been saving, its strange even if i saved 10 records they all contain the first image that i saved. Problem & Info:
I am bringing in an Excel file. I need to first strip out any non-detail rows such as the breaks you see with totals and what not. I should in the end have only detail rows left before I start moving them into my SQL Table. I'm not sure how to first strip this information out in SSIS specfically how down to the right component and how to actually code the component to do this based on my Excel file here: http://www.webfound.net/excelfile.xls
Then, I assume I just use a Flat File Source coponent or something to actually take the columns in the Excel and split into an OLE DB Datasource to shove each column into a corresponding column in my SQL Server Table. I have used a Flat File Source in the past to do so with a comma delimited txt file but never tried with an Excel.

Hi, I have an application where I'm filling a dataset with values from a table. This table has no primary key. Then I iterate through each row of the dataset and I compute the value of one of the columns and then update that value in the dataset row. The problem I'm having is that when the database gets updated by the SqlDataAdapter.Update() method, the same value shows up under that column for all rows. I think my Update Command is not correct since I'm not specifying a where clause and hence it is using just the value lastly computed in the dataset to update the entire database. But I do not know how to specify a where clause for an update statement when I'm actually updating every row in the dataset. Basically I do not have an update parameter since all rows are meant to be updated. Any suggestions? I want to save every query executed from a given software, let's say Multi Script for example, and save in a table query text, execution time and rows count among other possible useful information. Right now I've created a sp and a job that runs every 1 milliseconds but I can't figure out how to get execution time and rows count. Another problem with this is that if the query takes too long I end up with several rows in my table.
we are running 2014 enterprise. A couple of column headings (even with smaller font) are a little tall, as much as 6 "lines". All headings in the respective matrices are aligned vertically as "bottom". When I save the report to excel, these taller headings get chopped off visually in their excel cell. The cell contains the entire heading. It appears that the second "line" of the heading is the one that is most visible in excel.
How do I get these to be saved so user will see entire heading when opening excel doc? In the first matrix there is a text box directly above the matrix and only one row of column headings. In the second there is a higher column group heading containing month name above the problem headings.

Hello, I have a table T1 with ID and Desc fields. I want to export this table to excel files based on the ID field. So my stored procedure select all the same T1.ID and export it to ID.xls files. How can I do this?
I have to import data from Excel to SQL Server using SSIS. My fields in sql don't take null values however for some reason i don't understand I see that the SSIS is also trying to import null rows into the database. For example I have the following excel file: Name Postcode State XXX 123 ON YXX 345 IO
The rows following the last line are all blank but when I preview the Excel Source data flow task it returns the empty rows as null and therfore, my package fails as db fields don't accept null values.
How can I prevent SSIS from taking null rows? Can I maybe write a query in SSIS to say only to take rows where postcode<>null ?

Hi We are trying to export some data from SQL server into an excel sheet. The data records will be like more than 1 lakh records. I noted that Excel has a constraint of not creating rows more than 65,000. In this case we need to create multiple workbooks in the excel sheet.

I am exporting table rows (based on a query) into an excel file but I don't want to append to the file. I would like to delete the rows that were previously added and then add the new data. The file has column headings and I would like these to exist all the time.

I have a DTS package that needs to refresh data in 3 separate Excelspreadsheets on a daily basis. The problem is that unless I manuallydelete the previous day's data, it appends rather than replaces.I can't delete the excel files on a daily basis, as they have to bethere for the DTS package to be able to export to Excel. What I wantto do is create a VBScript (ActiveX Control) to delete all the rows ofdata except the first row within each spreadsheet as the first step ofthe DTS package. Then the remaining steps would run and thespreadsheets would only have the current day's data at the end of theprocess.Thanks for any help offered.
Few days back we faced a problem when we were doing an Export to Excel of a report which was using sub-reports. After going thro. the knowledge base articles we came to know that SSRS currently doesn't suppot this option, an alternate is to use use List instead of tables, so we used List and did all the formatting with the list and the data was displayed correctly and it was Exporting to Excel also properly. But now we found out that after doing an Export to Excel, the Excel File is leaving blank rows between the data (i.e.,) If the report consists of two rows, then it displays the first row in the 10th row of excel and the second row in the 12th row of excel. The 11th row is blank and it appears as a small blank row between 10 and 12. The actual problem because of this is we are not able to do Auto filter in Excel, because Excel by default considers the values only until it encounters a blank row when we are doing auto filter. So is there a way to avoid this blank row while exporting to Excel, we have tried to remove the borders and all other stuffs but nothing seems to work. Have anyone encountered the same problem or is there any work around for this problem. Thanks in advance.
Hi All, While we are loading the text file to SQL Server via SSIS, we have the provision to skip any number of leading rows from the source and load the data to SQL server. Is there any provision to do the same for Excel file. The source Excel file for me has some description in the leading 5 rows, I want to skip it and start the data load from the row 6. Please provide your thoughts on this.
I have a need to import only non-hidden rows from an excel spreadsheet. When I create the package in SSIS, it imports everything. Due to the use of the data on the spreadsheet, we cannot simply delete the data.
Is there a special setting in the Excel Source or Connection manager that can be set to "only import non-hidden rows"?
Also, how do I go about setting the sheet with an index instead of the actual Sheet name? The user changes the sheet name at random, but I know I only need the first two sheets on the file.
I am using a DTS package to output a view to a pre-determined Excel file. Currently it just adds the output to the bottom of the current table in excel but i would like it to delete the contents of the worksheet before adding the new rows.

I am creating an a stored procedure which could insert new records, the identity of the primary key in my table is not incremented. i want to increment the id when adding a new record in the stored procedure. what would be the system for that?
some time back i had problem with sending the service broker messages on remote machine,
I had some security issues and they were resolved by the help of Remusu.
since the ip of the remote machine was changed in between so i just re-executed the same scrips which used to successfully send messages on the remote machine.(I just updated the IP in the route )
To my surprise same script did not work now where as no change have been made.
I am doing the following:
1.Created the certificate and end point on the sender side. back up the certificate in a file and copied to the other machine. same step was repeated for receiving side as well.
2.both the side i created the certificates using the back up files from other sidend proper authorization
3.Then I created the database,route,messagetypes,contract,queues,services etc both the side.
4. then i setup dialog security(ie.created the dialog security certificates both the sides and back up them). Later I copied these back up files to each other, create some dialog user and create certificate using authorization to these remote dialog users created.
5.I also created remote service binding on both the sides and granted send permission to the remote dialog user.
When i send the message from sender to the receiver, and run the profiler, I see that on the sending side none of the broker event gives any error.
In the recever side I get the followng Event: Broker:Message Undeliverable
This message could not be delivered because the security context could not be retrieved. Error 11229.
I m surprised that the same script was run in the same order,Why was it running before and not now.
I also checked the End points using telnet and they seem to be fine. Also the firewall was "Off" on both the machines i.e. there was no change in system state also.
