Scheduling A SSIS Package Using SQL Agent (passing Credentials)

Aug 30, 2007

Hi:

I created a fairly simple SSIS package to move data from a remote server which uses SQL Server Authentication to a local server that uses Windows Authentication. Everything works fine when executing the package within BI studio and if I execute the package by connecting to SSIS. If I schedule it as a SQL Server Agent Job, however, the non-integrated security fails unless I manually edit the connection to include the password. Obviously this is insecure because it is in plain text. What can I do?

Thanks.

Scheduling SSIS Package From SQL Server Agent Job Fails.

Feb 21, 2008

HI,

I am having a strange error coming in SQL server 2005.

I had a DTS package developed in SQl server 2000. Then i had migrated that DTS package to SSIS package using Execute DTS 2000 package. The conversion is successfull.

Then when i manullt execute this package it runs successfully without giving any error.
But then wheh i schedule a SQL server agent job for the same above SSIS package it fails giving me some cryptographic error as follows:

Message

Not sure why is this happening.

Manually running the SSIS package from Visual studio does not gives error, but the same SSIS package when is been schedule from SQL server 2005's SQL server agent job it fails giving above error.

Please help me out how to rectify whith this.

Thanks.. in advance

Problem Running SSIS Package Using Credentials/Proxy

Dec 7, 2006

Hello,

I have a problem running a Package stored in the msdb datatabase (The
Database Engine is configured as a 1 node cluster) using a SQL Job that uses
Creadential/Proxy

Every time I try to run the SQL Job, it fails with the following error
message:

Unable to
start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy
MydomainMyaccount, system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad
password.). The step failed.".

The package runs perfectly if I run it logged as MydomainMyaccount ussing
DTExec.exe from the command line. if I run the sql job as "SQL Agent Service
Account" instead of using a proxy, it works great, but if I use the same
account as a credential, the sql job fails.

In other offices I have the same scenario in a non-cluster environment
running without any problems, (Also one with a 2 node cluster)

I am using Windows 2003 with SP1 and SQL 2005 SS with SP1 (build 2056)

Any idea?

Thanks in Advance Javier VillegasMediterranean Shipping Companyjvillegas@msc.us

Scheduling The SSIS Package

May 30, 2006

Hi,

I want to schedule an SSIS package to run always. So I tried scheduling the SSIS Package as a Job in the SQL Server Agent and I have set the Schedule Type as "Start automatically when SQL Server Agent Starts".

I have used an WMI Event Watcher task to raise an event when the file dropped in a folder.

And I have provided the configuration file also properly in the job. But still my package is not running properly. The application is running, but it is not raising any events even when the files are dropped in that folder.

Pls anyone of you provide some solution for this.

Thanks & Regards,

SSIS Package Scheduling

Feb 8, 2008

Hi
I have a strange scheduling problem.
I have a job, i test it through BIDS - Works
I test it through SSMS - works
I run the job - Works
I schedule for a run time job - Works
I schedule for a recurring job - Works

However (here is the really annoying part) it fails to run at the night run (11.20PM)
there are 6 other packages that run fine after it , 11.30 , 1AM .. 4 AM etc ...

So
last night I changed the package to run at a later time, and it worked, but the other package that
ran 2nd (which now ran 1st) failed !!

its almost as if the 1st package has to fail !!!!!
When i look at the history and detailed log all it says is "The step Failed"

anyway , I can set up a workaround by starting a dummy job that is supposed to fail..

FYI the jobs are run under administrator and they are protected by a password (encryptSensitiveWithpassword) .

Passing Execute DTS Package Result (success/failure) To Calling SSIS Package

Mar 6, 2008

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.

As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.

Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?

If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Scheduling An SSIS Package That Invokes A Web Service

Apr 30, 2007

Hey,

I have an SSIS package that invokes a web service and then updates a table. It runs fine as long as I am running it on the local machine. However, as soon as I save this package to the sql server, and try to schedule this as a job, it starts to fail. Now, the web service writes to an xml file and also uses an xsd and and an xsl file. When I save a dts package to the sql server, whats the proper way of referencing these files? I think this probably is what is making the package to fail, ut I am not sure.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

SSIS Called From Agent Job Not Calling New Child SSIS Package Addition

Oct 29, 2007

I have an SSIS package (TransAgentMaster) that I recently modified to include a call to a child package via the file system. The child package creates a text file. When I run the package in dev studio then the child package/text file is produced.

I then imported the TransAgentMaster as a stored packagesfilesystem package into SQL SSIS and executed the package. The child package produced the text file.

I then ran the SQL Server Agent to see if the child package would work and it did not generate the text file. Thus after updating a SSIS package importing the package into SSIS the job that calls the package will not call the child package. Please not that the TransAgentMaster package calls 7 children packages €¦ just not my new one.

Any thoughts why the agent will not run the child newly crated childe package?

Passing Param - SSIS Package ??

Sep 21, 2007

Hi,

I'm exporting some data from a table to fixed-width file using SSIS.
The query inside the package is:

SELECT col1, col3, col6 FROM Table1
WHERE code = 5 AND status = 'S'

The 'code' value will be passed from the front-end.

How can I make the query dynamically take the 'code' value and export to a file?

If a user selects 'code' as 7 , then the query should change to

SELECT col1, col3, col6 FROM Table1
WHERE code = 7 AND status = 'S'

and with this it has to export to a file.

Is this possible? If so, any suggestions on how to do it? !!!

Thanks,
Siva.

Can't Run SSIS Package Via Agent

Aug 29, 2007

I've seen many postings on various forums on how to get SQL agent to execute an SSIS package. I have one that was originally created via the import wizard in SSMS, later modified in VS2005, and then re-imported in SSMS using the Object Explorer interface to load the dtsx file into SQL storage. I've tried several package protection options when importing the package: "Don't save sensitive data" (the package has no passwords in it), server storage and roles, and a specified package password (which I entered as a /DECRYPT command line parameter in the Agent job step). Agent is running using a domain admin account. No matter what I've tried, I still get an error during job execution that it failed to decrypt the password XML node. The package runs just fine when executed manually in the SSIS Object Explorer.

How can I resolve this?

Running SSIS Package Through SQL Agent

Jun 18, 2008

Hello,

I'm new here and hope you will be able to help me.

I have created several SSIS packages with Visual Studio 2005.
They all work fine in debug mode.
I have been able to make them work with a ODBC connection by using a ADO.NET connection.

Then I exported them to the file system in my SQL Server 2005 database and created a task in SQLAgent to run them.

All the packages using the ODBC connection fail with the following error :

Login failed for user XXX
Error : 18456; Severity : 14 , State : 8

This error is a password mismatch.

I tried several database users and checked the passwords multiple times.

It looks like SQL Agent is not able to retrieve the password although it is stocked in both the ODBC connection and the SSIS connection.

Can you help me?

Thanks,

Ares

SQL Agent Failing When Trying To Run My SSIS Package

Feb 6, 2006

I found a similar thread posted under the same title as this by dba123. Unfortunately, his solution does not match my problem.

I have a SSIS package that will run fine in debug mode, will run fine when published to the server when I right click and execute it. However, when I run it through a job, either scheduled or running the job manually, the job fails. There is an entry in the servers application log telling me that "login failed for user xxxxx" where xxxxx is the name of SQL login that I am using. I know that the login works (logged in manually to the server via management studio, and it runs fine when I run it manually). Both connection managers are SQL, no flat files or other data source types. All the commands are T-SQL. The SQL Agent has full database access to both servers that the connection manager connects to - and its NOT the profile that is reporting as failing - it is a domain account.

This is totally bizzare - ANY help would be appreciated.

SQL Agent Failing When Trying To Run My SSIS Package

Feb 21, 2006

Hi,
I have a problem with an Access db

access connection manager in my package to a local Access file on my
machine, it works just fine but if i change the connection to that of
an Access db on my Y drive (which has been set up on my machine), it
doesnt execute. I checked the security property of the network folder
in which the access db exist and I do have rights. That is to
say, i dont know why it cannot access it then. The funny part is that
when i run the packae in SSIS (VS.NET) or Intergration services in
Managment studio, it runs just fine but when i execute the job through
Sql Server Agent, it generates the following error:
