mangesh writes "HI Everybody,
Please help me to solve this problem. I am not getting any solution to run jobs over sql server express. it does not have sql agent service.please suggest alertnative.
Mangesh"
I created an agent job, and it runs fine, but I want more control over the scheduling. I need to schedule jobs to run Sunday through Thursday at 8:00pm, skipping Friday.
How can I use the agent job interface and customize the schedule this way? Will I have to resort to a Windows Service and control the scheduling that way?
I had a few jobs as schduled DTS tasks in SQL 7. I manually saved them and reset the connection. I am able to execute the tasks successfully. However, on scheduling the same, it is failing. I am able to schedule other tasks successfully. So the scheduler is working OK. All tasks that involve dts are not running properply with the scheduler.
Hi I have a strange scheduling problem. I have a job, i test it through BIDS - Works I test it through SSMS - works I run the job - Works I schedule for a run time job - Works I schedule for a recurring job - Works
However (here is the really annoying part) it fails to run at the night run (11.20PM) there are 6 other packages that run fine after it , 11.30 , 1AM .. 4 AM etc ...
So last night I changed the package to run at a later time, and it worked, but the other package that ran 2nd (which now ran 1st) failed !!
its almost as if the 1st package has to fail !!!!! When i look at the history and detailed log all it says is "The step Failed"
anyway , I can set up a workaround by starting a dummy job that is supposed to fail..
FYI the jobs are run under administrator and they are protected by a password (encryptSensitiveWithpassword) .
Yao, Could anyone help me with, or point me to information regarding, scheduling jobs for MSSQL 2000? I need to execute a SQL Command, monthly, which sets a budget field to a fixed ammount, something like: UPDATE Programs SET Budget = 500. --Kyle Johnson
Hi Group, Is it possible to schedule and execute sql jobs from an asp page. I am developing an application that requires an administration section. In this section the admin would like to change / update the schedule of the sql job and also run the jobs ad hoc. Basicall y they would like the functionality of sql agen in enterprise manager to be available from their web application.
Has anbody done this before ? All information / solutions shall be psoted back to the group as I reckon this would be pretty useful functionality.
Hello!M a newbie.. I just want to know, that wots the difference b/w SQL Server Standard Edition and Express Edition.?And can I use Visual Studio 2005 (Professional Edition) with SQL Server Express Edition.?
I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?
I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news..
I recently purchased a copy of Visual Studio 2005 Professional last month and it came with SQL Server Developer Edition. However, I noticed it also installs the express edition. If I choose not to install the Developer Edition (Im quite new to SQL) can I deploy a database I develop in the express edition on a regular SQL server?

I'm getting an error while trying to install SQL Server Express 2005 Express Edition. I'm attaching the log of the installation process here. Please throw some light on the same.

I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine).
Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'.
The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication.
I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck.
I am currently downloading the mega-sized files for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and was wondering if I was going to be able to install it onto my workstation alongside the SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition? Was hoping someone could advise. I did browse for an answer, but have not come across it yet. I know I'll find out once my download is complete, but that could be awhile :)
Hi, I am looking to using the express edition toolkit for its BI tools but noticed the that it doesn't support a Database engine. If I am running SQL Express edition, & install the Express toolkit, will this remove the Database engine functionality of the Express edition? Will there be conflicts? Will they run as separate GUI's or is the toolkit added to the Express edition GUI?
Thank you very much for any suggestions anybody might have on this

When I look in Programs on another client Sql-Server 2000 I can see Profiler, and Query Analyzer, etc.
1. When I first sign up with Visual Web Developer Express Edition, do I keep this database system ASPNETDB.MDF or do I connect to the SQL Server Express Edition?
2. if A web hoster accepts SQL and does not mention SQL Express, will it still connect with SQL Express Edition anyways?
I have just installed sql server 2005 but, now I have two types of server name: Microsoft SQL Server Developer EditionMicrosoft SQL Server Express Edition Which one should I use? Does it matter??thanks..
I have installed the Classifieds Starter Kit and have imported the ClassifiedsDB from Express to SQL Server running on a remote machine. I have edited the classifiedsceonnection string in the Web.Config to point to the db. However, the AspNetSqlMembershipProvider is still looking for the LocalSQLProvider, I changed that to poing to the same classifiedsconnectionstring and it errors; I will post error here: SQLExpress database file auto-creation error: The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist. If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts. Any suggestion of how to resolve this to look at the SQL Server on remote machine?
I have sql server express edition on my local machine and sql server enterprise edition on the server. When I try to use the import export tool on the server . it gives me this error TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard------------------------------Error 0xc00470fe: Data Flow Task: The product level is insufficient for component "Destination - DOR_outFile_txt" (193).------------------------------BUTTONS:OK------------------------------ Is this error due to the fact that I have sql server express on my local machine? If yes, then does that mean that if I am programming from my local machine, the version of SQL on the server doesn't matter?
Hi all.I am using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition as a database.I put below code to connect to my database at my Page_Load event. Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'Put user code to initialize the page here Dim conn As sqlConnection conn = New SqlConnection("server=SEN-M092082D001SQLEXPRESS;database=test;Trusted_Connection=Yes") conn.open() lblItem.Text = "Connection Opened!"
End SubAnd, I got an error when running this code. Error is:Cannot open database "test" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'SEN-M092082D001ASPNET' Which the error points to Conn.Open. Why this happen? Do I need to configure something at the SQL Server ?
Hello I am a newbie to this list and hope this gets posted. Sent one out yesterday which never saw the light of day! In my installation here, I have the security database ASPNETDB.mdb and to keep things independent and robust, I created another database MYDATADB.mdb. Now, I have a requirement to maintain a custom USERS table in MYDATADB. To meet this requirement, I tried creating an ON INSERT trigger on the ASPNET_USERS table. However, when I say 'INSERT INTO MYDATADB.dbo.USERS ......', within the trigger body, I get an error saying 'Invalid object'. It seems that MYDATADB is not visible from ASPNETDB. Could there be any other reason for this error? Are these two databases similar to separate servers? Do I have to create a server group or something -- or a data link of some sort? Please advise and thanks! Fouwaaz
Good morning,After long hours of search on the subject, I could not find a clear answer to my question.I understand what are ths physical limit fo the express version (1Gb or Ram, 4Gb database, 64 bit WOW).My configuration is as follow, windows webserver 64bit, I have 4 database of 10Mb each for 4 web-application. The maximum concurent connection is a total fo about 8 for all the web-application together. Therefore due to the cost of buying a workgroup of standard license, I was hoping to be able to use the express edition. Please let me know your thought.ThanksArno
I am building an application using sql server express. The .mdf file is located in my appdata directory and connection string is stored in the web.config. Here is an the connection string <add name="blogConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|log.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> The application runs great locally on my personal computer debugging with Visual Studio 2005 but when i put it on our dev server i get the following error. I would use full blown Sql 2005 but our client doesnt have it. I thought if you had sql 2005 installed on the server you didnt have to install the express edition. Any insight? An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
