Script Component As Source: The Collection Of Variables Locked For Read Access Is Not Available At This Point.
Jan 17, 2008
Hello, I am trying to configure a Script Component as a data source. Although this should be a simple exercise, I am running into a problem.
My control flow contains a Foreach Loop with a file iterator. The Directory Expression of the Foreach Loop Editor is supplied by an expression mapped to a package level variable called inputdirectory. The FileNameRetrieval Expression is mapped to a package scoped variable called filename.
My data flow is encapsulated by the Foreach Loop, and contains a Script Component as Source for the Data Flow Source, and a Flat File for the Data Flow Destination. The contents of the Script Designer are as follows:
Code Block
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper
Imports System.IO
Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent
Dim thisFileDate As Date
Dim thisFileName As String
Dim thisFilePath As String
Public Overrides Sub CreateNewOutputRows()
thisFileName = ReadOnlyVariables("filename").Value.ToString()
thisFilePath = ReadOnlyVariables("inputdirectory").Value.ToString()
thisFileDate = File.GetCreationTime(thisFilePath & "" & thisFileName)
FileSpecBuffer.AddRow()
FileSpecBuffer.FileName = thisFileName
FileSpecBuffer.FullPath = thisFilePath & "" & thisFileName
FileSpecBuffer.CreateDate = thisFileDate
End Sub
End Class
When I debug the package, I get the following error:
The collection of variables locked for read access is not available at this point.
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponent.get_ReadOnlyVariables()
at ScriptComponent_67311120e6eb4162a3ea1f70847f04de.ScriptMain.CreateNewOutputRows()
at ScriptComponent_67311120e6eb4162a3ea1f70847f04de.UserComponent.PrimeOutput(Int32 Outputs, Int32[] OutputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] Buffers)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.PrimeOutput(Int32 outputs, Int32[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers)
My googlefu fails me at reconciling this. I have read various posts about changing the line ReadOnlyVariables("filename").Value to ReadWriteVariables("filename").Value, and handling the buffer assignment in PostExecute. The problem is that all examples shown are either for Script Component as Destination or Script Component as Transformation. I have tried playing with the Custom Properties in the Script Commponent set the ReadOnlyVariables and ReadWriteVariables, using a PreExecute method, a PostExecute method, all with different errors returning. I'm at a loss here. Could anybody provide me with a simple working example so that I can correctly populate my output buffer in the context of Script Component as Source?
I fully understand that I could just run a Script Task Using System.IO.Directory, and System.IO.File, but I really want to make this package work in the manner I've described. Any help would be appreciated.
At our business we are getting a lot of PDF documents that are being hand keyed into a database. Has anyone heard ior know of a SSIS Data Flow Source component that I coud use to read thos documents into a data stream (?) and process?
I have a data flow that uses an OLEDB Source Component to read data from a table. The data access mode is SQL Command. The SQL Command is:
select lpartid, iCallNum, sql_uid_stamp from call where sql_uid_stamp not in (select sql_uid_stamp from import_callcompare)
I wanted to add additional clauses to the where clause.
The problem is that I want to add to this SQL Command the ability to have it use a package variable that at the time of the package execution uses the variable value.
The package variable is called [User::Date_BeginningYesterday]
select lpartid, iCallNum, sql_uid_stamp from call where sql_uid_stamp not in (select sql_uid_stamp from import_callcompare) and record_modified < [User::Date_BeginningYesterday]
I have looked at various forum message and been through the BOL but seem to missing something to make this work properly.
The article, is the closest I have (what I belive) come to finding a solution. I am sure the solution is so easy that it is staring me in the face and I just don't see it. Thank you for your assistance.
All examples I found refer to classes under Microsoft.SharePoint namespace. However, I have the SharePoint CSOM that only gives me the Microsoft.Sharepoint.Client namespace.
I need to read the selected values of a multichoice field, but not sure how to do it with classes in the namespace above.
everthing works, exept the TSQL_x0020_Reference_x0020_Numbe field.
I have a package that has a data lfow task. this task imports data from a db2 database (using the IBM Ole DB provider fro db2) and adds it to sql server database table. This package was created on the server. then though version control (using TFS source control) I check out the package on my local machine. and when I open the package I get the foll 3 errors.
Error 1 Validation error. Import Account Num from BMGP_BDR: DTS.Pipeline: The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1113)" could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.

I have a package which reads an Access file from a folder. My connection manager to this file is .NET providers for OledbMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get
The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1) could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.
I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works fine for several days. One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine.Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data".When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature.
Precedence Constraint Editor Values: Expression Operation: Expression and Constraint Value: Failure Expression: @GotRecs == 1 Radio button: Logical AND. All contraints must evaluate to True
Stored Procedure has an IF (that contains a SELECT) statement that checks for records if no records are returned processing stops. I SET the parameter after the BEGIN that follows the IF statement.
The step that contains the above code is step #3. I placed the constraint between step #3 and step #4 (Data Flow task) just Exports to a Flat File.
When I clicked the TEST button in the Precedence Constraint Editor I got the following msg: Error at Constraint 3: The variable €œGotRecs€? was not found in the variables collection. The variable might not exist in the correct scope.
I am on a learning project where I need to take Inputs to the Script Component from an OLE DB Source. Then I am supposed to be able to access these input columns in my Script. My Script code is in VB.NET.
My questions is: 1) How do I access these input variables in my script? 2)How to assign outputs to the output columns which will go to two separate OLE DB Destinations?
We are experiencing some problems when running the same package on multiple threads of a C# application concurrently. The package instances seem to share a Dts.Variables collection.
I have created a test application and package to reproduce the issue. The package is very simple. It has two variables - Instance (Int32) and Content (string). The test application runs two concurrent threads that run through 25 iterations running the package. Each thread loads the package, sets the instance, and then runs the package. The package then takes the instance, sticks it in the Content variable and then writes it to a file called "FileX" where X is the Instance. Thread 1 sets the instance from 1 to 25, thread 2 sets it from 26 to 50. The test execution results in about 15% of the files containing the incorrect "instance content". That is, I'll see "42" in the file named "File14", or something along those lines. This tells me that the variables are being overwritten.
I ran another test where I created a copy of the package, so the code is identical, but the VersionGUID is different. Running the thread test application always succeeds. There is no file name/content mismatch. I then ran another test where I manually edit the XML of the package to change the VersionGUID before the package is loaded (by calling LoadFromXml). Again this never fails.
Changing the VersionGUID may work for us, but it is a total hack. Has anyone else experienced this or have any other solutions? Any thoughts on manually updating the VersionGUID to get around this problem? I hate doing this, but we are getting desperate.
OBJECTIVE: I would like to read a text file from SQL Server 2000, read the text file content, and load its conntents in a RichTextBoxTHINGS I'VE DONE AND HAVE WORKING:1) I've successfully load a text file (ex: textFile.txt) in sql server database table column (with datatype Image) 2) I've also able to load the file using a Handler as below: using System;using System.Web;using System.Data.SqlClient;public class HandlerImage : IHttpHandler {string connectionString;public void ProcessRequest (HttpContext context) {connectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NWS_ScheduleSQL2000"].ConnectionString;int ImageID = Convert.ToInt32(context.Request.QueryString["id"]);SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);string Command = "SELECT [Image], Image_Type FROM Images WHERE Image_Id=@Image_Id";SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(Command, myConnection);cmd.Parameters.Add("@Image_Id", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int).Value = ImageID;SqlDataReader dr;myConnection.Open(); cmd.Prepare(); dr = cmd.ExecuteReader();if (dr.Read()){ //WRITE IMAGE TO THE BROWSERcontext.Response.ContentType = dr["Image_Type"].ToString();context.Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])dr["Image"]);}myConnection.Close();}public bool IsReusable {get {return false;}}}'>'> <a href='<%# "HandlerDocument.ashx?id=" + Eval("Doc_ID") %>'>File </a>- Click on this link, I'll be able to download or view the file WHAT I WANT TO DO, BUT HAVE PROBLEM:- I would like to be able to read CONTENT of this file and load it in a string as belowStreamReader SR = new StreamReader()SR = File.Open("File.txt");String contentText = SR.Readline();txtBox.text = contentText;BUT THIS ONLY WORK FOR files in the server.I would like to be able to read FILE CONTENTS from SQL Server.PLEASE HELP. I really appreciate it.
I want to run a loop for all the input columns in the script component. My requirement is, I have nearly 50 columns in the input columns list. For each row and for each column I need to do some operation. How Can I run a loop for each column. Please note in the script component I need to get the column names in the middle for some operations. Please see below.
Process Each Input Row
For each column in Input column list .... .... If column.Name Starts with "Test" then set NULL to the column value .... .... End Loop
I have a SSIS package with a Data Flow task. This task transfers the data from SQL Server 2000 to a table in SQL Server 2005.
I deployed and tested this package on the Test Server. Then put this package in a job and executed it - Works fine.
On the production server- If I execute the package through DTEXECUI, it works fine. But when I try executing it through a job- the job fails and it gives me following error:
Description: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The "external metadata column "T_FieldName" (82)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection....
What I don't understand is, why are there no errors displayed when I execute the package through DTEXECUI.
How do I retrieve the connections (connection managers) collections from Custom Data Flow destination? ComponentMetadata.RuntimeConnectionCollection is empty. I would like to be able to access all the connections defined in the package from the custom data flow task.
I came across code in which it was possible to access the Connections collection using the IDtsConnectionService for custom task (destination). The custom task has access to serviceProvider, whcih can be used to get access to the IDtsConnectionService interface but not the custom data flow task.
What is they best way to get data from a locked Access database into SQL Server? Linked Server, DTS Package, or should I just directly access it from my App?
wierd thing - i am trying to write a program that use simple access database but 5 user can access it at the same time ,
i wont to know if the database is in use by other user before attemping to write to it ,
but i notice that DBNAME.ldb file even when exsist i can some times write to the database - so to chack if this file is exsist will not be the sulotion , some one know how to chack it?
Am I imagining it or did I read somewhere once about an tool/command/method that allows the administrator/dba to access the server even if no-one else can - probably only in certain scenarios.
I think it had a use for a situation where all the connections are used up and no further connection pooling can kick in for a while. This tool enabled the dba to still get to the server and I presume still be able to run stuff like sp_who and kill.
I created a Custom Task which it has a Property called ConfigFilePath. I'm overriding the Validate() method from Task. I want to throw an error if my property ConfigFilePath is empty and if the expression for this property is empty. So far, I can check if the property is empty but I don't see how I can access the Expressions Collection of my Custom Task.
I want to use the excel sheets located on a share point site as source, for this i downloaded the adapter from the following link URL....IÂ got the connection manager to work, but when coming to load the excel files to the destination location its not doing what is intended. For example i want the destination location my local drive for the excel files, how can i do that which destination should i use?
I am using a Script Component and I have a Read/Write Variable varStatusCase (as assigned in the Custom Properties of my Script Component). I used this inside my script to get a specific value. However, when I ran it I get this error:
The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute.
I have a script component that I have written and works as long as the Output columns on the script are string types. When I change the output column type to text (since the size could be essentially unlimited) it gives an error in the script component that the property is read only.
Here is the code line that fails with Property Payments is read only.
Output0Buffer.Payments = fieldValues(i)
If I change the column payments to DT_Wstr it works without issue, but I want to use text incase the value is large.
Here is the error if you try to run the actual script even though I know it has an error.
Error at Data Flow Task [Script Component [85]]: Error 30526: Property 'Payments' is 'ReadOnly'. Line 86 Column 13 through 69 Error 30526: Property 'Ops' is 'ReadOnly'. Line 155 Column 13 through 65

I have a package variable that I set via an ExecuteSQL task. I want to reference it in a data flow script component. In the Script component I enter the variable into the ReadOnlyVariables collection, then in the script I reference it as Me.Variables.var. (E.G. counter = Me.Variables.var)
I'm getting errors when the data flow starts:
Error: 0xC0047062 at Provider, Set Surrogate Key [4261]: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ReadWriteVariablesNotAvailableException: The collection of variables locked for read and write access is not available outside of PostExecute.
I have no problem referencing other variables that I have in DerivedColumn transformations. I've tried putting the variable in the ReadWriteVariables collection but I get the same error. I don't understand why this is so difficult. Please help.
I've read the various posts and articles regarding this matter, but I seem to have problems getting to work:
In my control flow, I start by declaring a variable named "LastJobLedgerEntryID", to identify the records I need to add to the stage. From there I would like to use this variable in the source component in my dataflow, i.e.:
"SELECT [Entry No_],[Job No_],[Posting Date],[Document No_],[Type],[No_],[Description],[Quantity],[Direct Unit Cost],[Unit Cost],[Unit Price],[Chargeable],[Job Posting Group],[Global Dimension 1 Code],[Global Dimension 2 Code],[Work Type Code] FROM mytable WHERE [Entry No_] > " + @[User::LastJobLedgerEntryID]
But this fails? I should note that the variable LastJobLedgerEntryID is stored as a int32, and with the default value of 0
I have a script component in a data flow that is exhibiting some strange behavior. In the PreExecute event of the data flow, I stuff a recordset into a variable that is declared at the data flow scope. Within the data flow, I use a script component to read in the data from the recordset.
Example:
Dim olead As New Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim dt1 As New System.Data.DataTable
Dim row As System.Data.DataRow
olead.Fill(dt1, Me.Variables.rsIntRateStrata)
If I display the count of the records in the data table dt1, it shows 42 rows, which is correct. Run the package, everything runs as expected. So far, so good.
Now, I set up another source/destination within the same data flow, as well as a script component between them, same as the first flow described above. Now my data flow has two parallel flows (different source & destinations). I copy the same script logic from the first flow into the second. Run the package- no errors, everything is fine... except when I inspect the data, it looks like the transformation isn't working correctly in the second script.
So I display a messagebox of each script component during run time. The first component displays 42 records, while the second displays 0 records? Same variable. Same data flow.
So I delete the first (original) flow from my data flow. Run the package again. Now the messagebox says 42.
What is happening here? Do I have to create two variables to duplicate the same recordset if I need to use it multiple times within the same data flow? Is this a bug?
I can't find anything on how to get to a global variable in a script component in the dataflow. I can get to it in a script task with no problem by using dts.variables but i doesn't appear you can do the dts variables in the script component.
I did add it to the readwrite variable list but I haven't been able to access it.
Hello ASP.NET C# and SQL gurus I want to read the results of a set of rows into session variables -- how is it possible? Let me try explain. I have a query which returns multiple rows, e.g. the following query SELECT PROFILE_ID, PROFILE_NAME FROM USER_PROFILES returns 5 rows i.e 5 sets of profile_ids and profile_names. Now, I want to capture these and store them in session variables thus. Session["PROFILEID_1"] = Session["PROFILEID_2"] = Session["PROFILEID_3"] = Session["PROFILEID_4"] = Session["PROFILEID_5"] = Session["PROFILENAME_1"] = Session["PROFILENAME_2"] = Session["PROFILENAME_3"] = Session["PROFILENAME_4"] = Session["PROFILENAME_5"] =
Hello Guys, in SSIS I want to get a set of data and do some modifications on it before I insert it into the destinatipn. So far so good. Some of the modifications will include comparisions between two columns and if certain field is NULL then I want to get the value from the other one I was comparing to. When using conditional splits, I only get the rows to be redirected so that I can do whatever next. However, I want like use the variables as a storage so that I can put the value of one of the two columns in this variable which will be actually loaded into the destination finally. Any help? Thanks
