In a Data Flow, I have the necessity to use a SSIS variable of type €œObject€? inside Script Component and assign to it the content of 'n' variables of string type. On exiting from the script the variable of type object should contain something like in the following lines: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦. €¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦€¦. On exiting from the data flow I will use the variable of type Object in a Script Task, by reading each element in a cyclic fashion. Is there anyone who have experienced something like this? I have a table with the field end_date which is defined as a smalldatetime. I have been unable to update this field using the SqlCommand object. In my windows form I have a DateTime Picker and I am trying to get it's value into the db with no success.
I have tried command.Parameters.Add ("@end_date",SqlDbType.DateTime); command.Parameters["@end_date"].Value = dtpEndDate.Value;
I have also tried variations of command.Parameters.AddWithValue ("@end_date",dtpEndDate.Value);
The field can have null values. But I am not able to insert null values into the database. i tried using subdate="". But it inserts some min value of my calendar popup.
Is there a way that i could insert null values into smalldatetime field of the SQl database.
In SQL Server 2000 / Asp.Net I am trying to use default values for all fields; hoping to eliminate nulls.
For number and character fields, the default is pretty obvious, but is there any empty value for a date field? I think a null there might be better than putting in a bogus date, at least it can be tested for.
Are there any more developend ideas on this question?

I'm trying to extract the time part of a smalldatetime field in a usprocedure to return just the time. I've used Datepart() to get the hours or minutes but you can't get both without getting messy. Anyone know a way to keep it neat & simple?
Hello everyone, I am using DTS to transform data from foxpro.when it meets the date of NULL,it fails and says"Insert Error , column 4( 'Coloumn_name ',DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), Status 6 data overflow ". And then i try to open the DTS Transform Data task and do a preview of the data from the 'Source' side.The Null values are treated as "1899-12-30". After reading something ,i try to write an ActiveX scripting Task to solve this problem using the function of "IsDate()",but it fails with exceptions. I have a table that I would like to update with the current dateTime of Today. The Table Field is called "DateTimeStamp" with a format of SmallDateTime -- I'm using VS 2008. When I use the following command and then cmd.ExecuteNonQuery -- the table is correclty filled in with the exception of the DateTimeStamp field. Instead of 3/23/2008, I get the value 1/1/1900 ... I have a field which is currently of the "date time" data type. i want to convert it to smalldatetime, but everytime I try, i get an error of the "The conversion from datetime data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in a smalldatetime overflow error. " sort.
I have tried to find the values which are out of the smalldatetime range, with the following query
SELECT *
FROM midmar
WHERE bday BETWEEN '01/01/1900' AND '06/05/2079'
Which doesn't quite work, and gives me values that are actually between those two values listed.
I have also tried having the WHERE clause read:
WHERE bday <'06/06/2079' AND
bday>'01/01/1900'
and that doesn't really work either.
What's going on? Is there likely another problem besides the structuring of my queries?
Hello - I have a column in a table (SQL 2005 EE) with a Data Type of smalldatetime and a Default Value of getdate(). When I insert a record from my webpage the new record contains the correct date via getdate(). However if I update the record from my webpage the date of the record then becomes NULL. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about this from sql server? I am inserting/updating via an formview and ODS, using standard insert/update methods. Cheers Marco

I've been using SSIS for a few months now, and am comfortable with most of the tools, except for the script task and script component. I don't remember any VB code from college - is that the best place to start in order to fully understand how to code the script task and component? I need to understand the situations where/when I would use scripting, why, etc. I've used a few examples on the internet to do some simple tasks, but need to understand the code I'm implementing. Any direction would be much appreciated.
How to debug a script component task made in .Net? I've got a Inmediate Window, Start Without Debugging, Toggle Breakpoint, etc but nothing works. When I press Start nothing happens. I suppose that anything very very of paramount importance I'm forgetting but I haven't any clue
I have a package that has a data lfow task. this task imports data from a db2 database (using the IBM Ole DB provider fro db2) and adds it to sql server database table. This package was created on the server. then though version control (using TFS source control) I check out the package on my local machine. and when I open the package I get the foll 3 errors.

I'm trying to develop a custom Data Flow Transformization component in SSIS.
I compiled it without errors, installed it in the GAC and in the Pipeline Components-folder however I always get the following message when I'm trying to drag the component onto the designer surface:

This happens with EVERY custom component on my computer. The same components work fine on other machines.
Near the end of 2005 Microsoft made available some sample C# apps that implemented custom SSIS tasks and components. I think Doug Ladenshlager may have had a heavy hand in building them.
Does anyone know where they are? I can't darned well find them!
I have a component who's OnPreExecute event handler contains a Script Task. I would like to use this Script Task to access the component's properties. Can anyone provide script examples for doing this if this is possible?
I have a package which reads an Access file from a folder. My connection manager to this file is .NET providers for OledbMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get

I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.
I have a class that utilizes the ThreadPool together with a ManualResetEvent to queue up work items (in this case, FTP downloads) and then waits until all work items have completed before proceeding.
I then use this class inside a Script Component. However, I am getting a "remote procedure call failed" every single time the FTP component starts a download. This same class works perfectly in a WinForm app that I created as a test harness. Also, the synchronized version of the FTP download component works perfectly well from the Script Task -- it's only when I "wrap" the synchronous version in a threaded version that it fails.
Also, when the "remote procedure call failed" exception occurs, sqldumper.exe runs for a split second and creates a minidump. I, unfortunately, cannot inspect the dump because VS2k5 throws a native error when I try to "debug" the dump.
Is it possible to utilize multithreaded code inside SSIS? I noticed that SQL Server prohibits the use of threading as part of its hosting requirements (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172338.aspx) but I'm not sure how that would impact (if at all) the SSIS host.
