Script/FTP Task A Mainframe Destination

Sep 21, 2007

Hello,

Has anyone had any success sending or receiving file(s) from either Script or FTP task? I've Google and found examples and no luck for me. The main idea is to send a file from local PC/server to mainframe.

Username: imtheuser
Password: pwd
Source file: c:myfile.txt
Destination: 'PROD.ABC.DAILY.BATCH'

I've used this workaround, SSIS Script Task but no good.

SQL Server
Feedback Workarounds

When you try to connect to a mainframe (os / 390) to ftp receive a file you get an error message stating that the path does not begin with a "/".

Destination File With Multiple Record Types And Sequences - Mainframe-like

Jul 20, 2007

Howdy all,

I've seen several posts about reading and writing files that have different record types with varying column metadata. My particular file has 11 record types plus several header types and looks something like:

<Header1>

<Header2>

<Detail01-#1>

<Subdetail02>

<Subdetail03>

...

<Detail01-#2>

<Subdetail02>

<Subdetail03>

...

...

Since i need to get different detail and subdetail records, i can't really use the technique of 3 dest file connection managers found in http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=87269&SiteID=1

I've tried using an exec sql to get the main detail records and then a forech ADO en umerator that would get the subdetails, but it all seems so kludgy. I'm starting to think that I should just write the bulk of the file creation code in a c# app instead of trying to smush this into SSIS. Opinions? Am I missing some trick in SSIS?

TIA,

-Peter

DTS FTP Task From Mainframe Problem

Aug 30, 2002

I am trying to use the FTP Task within a DTS Package to copy a file from the Mainframe (OS390). We have SQL2000 with SP2 running on NT. This process works when I do it manually with ftp. At first, when I would execute the package it would just hang like it is copying but it would never end.

Then, I added a Dynamic Properties Task to the package. I used the Dynamic Properties Task to set up a Constant with the actual name of the Source File located on the Mainframe. When I ran this I received "Invalid string format for source file name".

Next, I removed the Dynamic Properties Task from the DTS Package, saved the package, and executed it. The package executed successfully, but when I looked in the folder on my hardrive the file that was supposed to be copied was not there. In order to get the package to execute successfully it appears that I have to go through the following process: add the Dynamic Properties Task, set up a constant to change the Source File name, save the package, delete the Dynamic Properties Task, save the package and then execute it.

Also, on one execution of this package, it brought across the file from the Mainframe to my hard drive but the file was in Binary format.

What do I have to do to get the FTP Task within a DTS Package to work? Would you specify in detail exactly how the Dynamic Properties Task needs to be set up? How can I specify how to change the file format from Binary to ASCII in the DTS Package?

Thanks, in advance.

SSIS - Migrating Mainframe Data To SQL 2005 Only Mainframe Group Level Exposed

Apr 25, 2007

In using SSIS to migrate data from mainframe to SQL 2005, I had a situation where only group level data was exposed through the ODBC to SSIS, so I pulled this information as varchar on the SQL destination side. Now I would like to break that group into the individual numeric columns I need on SQL Server. However, the positive and negative sign did not convert because it came of character. I can write something to convert the positive signs to positive numbers; however I cannot do the negative because I would need get rid of the leading zeros in order to place the negative sign before the number. Is there anything I could have done to get SSIS to do the conversion like it did for every one-to-one mapping?

FTP Task. / Validation Makes Mainframe Downloads Impossible.

Jul 24, 2007

When attempting to use the FTP task to download a file from a Mainframe system the task fails stating the filename as invalid because it doesn't begin with a "/".

Adding the slash to the front of the file name causes the mainframe to be unable to locate the file.

Commandline version of FTP.exe mimicks this behavior by working perfectly when the filename has no slash, and being unable to find the file when the slash is present.

Why does microsoft force a filename to start with a "/" and is there a way to make SSIS skip the validation phase for the FTP task?

Send Mail Task Problem Using A Combination Of ForEach Loop, Recordset Destination, Execute SQL Task And Script Task

Jun 21, 2007

OK. I give up and need help. Hopefully it's something minor ...

I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.

I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.

I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.

I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).

The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.

Try

ds = CType(Dts.Variables("VP_EMAIL_RESULTS_RS").Value, DataSet)

My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.

part number leadtime

x 5

y 9

....

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

thanks

OLEDB Destination Task Hanging

Oct 5, 2007

Hi,

I have a strange problem, which I never encountered earlier, I have a data flow which has one source and multiple destinations, I am also using multicast and derived column transformations too, however when I run the package (either from cmd line or designer) the data flow task hangs when it comes to inserting data into the target tables. and it keeps waiting forever. Initialy I thought it was my data set , however if with very few records the problem persists. I have also tried removing the table lock from the destination , increasing the rows per batch to 10000 and commit size to 10000 but to no change. I am using the fast load option within my destination. When I run sp_who2 on my Management Studio I see that the status of all the processes is sleeping and the command is "awaiting command" , any help appreciated.

Thanks

Developing A Custom Task Using OLE DB Destination Adapter

Jul 25, 2007

I am writing a custom task to import data from delimited files into SQL tables. I use the standard Flat File Source adapter, a custom transformation to add a URN column and a filename column to the data and the standard OLEDB Destination Adapter.

Most of my test data files work fine except for ones with a lot of columns (around 350 columns). I get an error when I call the ReinitializeMetaData() method for the destination adapter.

Q1) Is there a restriction on the number of columns (or data row size) that can be imported into an OLEDB Destination Adapter?

Q2) The reason I use this adapter rather than the SQL Server Destination Adapter is that I need to set the destination table name using a variable. I don't believe I can do this with the SQL Server Destination Adapter. Is this the case?

Q3) Anyone know of a better/alternative way of acheiving the above? One way I have thought of is to create a custom destination adapter using the SQL Server Destination adapter as the base but I'm not sure whether this is a) possible and b) worth the hassle.

Hope someone can help...

Cheers

- myPackage run perfectly on debug mode and also via DTSexec choosing from stored package directory

My problem is when try to run the REAL job.
Always got an error.

This is a generic error and don't give me any feedback...one time is on data task A another to diffrent.
SSIS pkg are compose by 34 data task...they insert into SQL server destination a RAW file source.
SQL destination is the same machine of SQL server services and files are store to another machine...is a share like

I have try to run job with different agent (sql agent) and proxy user (same of the log-in sql server machine) where I 'm on.
But always have error.

Now, I'm death point, 'cause PKG run ok into Debug and DTSexec...job is failure and all logs that I write ara vague.
Some data task have big numbr of row like 95000, 625000, 53000....
But I have no one buffer error...anyway I have increase the defaultNumberOfMaxRow on the proprety for "my personal security" but no way out....

Source And Destination Connection Info Of A Dataflow Task.

Mar 29, 2007

Hello All,

I am trying to convert an application created using DTS classes to SSIS object model. I have found following code in the application.

For x As Integer = 1 To mTask.Properties.Count

If mTask.Properties.Item(x).Name = "SourceConnectionID" Then

CnID = mTask.Properties.Item(x).Value

Exit For

End If

Next

For x As Integer = 1 To mPkg.DTSPackage.Connections.Count

If mPkg.DTSPackage.Connections.Item(x).ID = CnID Then

Return mPkg.DTSPackage.Connections.Item(x).Name
End If

Next

Return mTask.Properties.Item("SourceObjectName").Value

How can I retrieve or Set "SourceConnectinId", "SourceObjectName" of a data flow task in SSIS

Please help me to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance

Data Flow Task - OLEDB Source / Destination

Nov 9, 2006

Hi

Inside a data flow task, i have a oledb source and destination. In my situation, I need to pull data from a table in the source, but also hard code some columns myself, which means my source is a blend of data from table, hard coded data, which will then have to be mapped to columns in oledb destination. Does anyone which option to choose in the oledb source dropdown for the data access mode. Keep in mind, i do need to run a a select query, as well as get data from a table. Is it possible to use multiple oledb sources and connect to one destination, because that is really what intend to do here. I am not sure how it will work, or even if its possible. Basically my source access mode needs to be a blend of sql command and table columns, how would that be implemented? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Integeration Service (SISS) - SQL Execute Task (destination Table)??

Oct 8, 2007

I had created an Script Task to put data into the few variables then I created an SQL Execute Task to use the SQL query to collect data from a database. Now I want to put that data into a different database.

I noticed it can not be done because the SQL Execute Task is one object and the other object is Data Flow Task. (The Destination database is inside that object).

So, if it is possible then how? If not then what should be done instead?

Thanks...

We have a single generic SSIS package that is used to import several hundred iSeries tables into SQL. I am not looking to rewrite the process. But I am looking for ways to improve performance.

I have tried retain same connection, maximum insert commit size, lock table (tablock), removed some large columns, played with the log file location and size, and now I am working to tweak the defaultbuffermaxrows.

To describe the data flow task - there are six data flows tasks (dft)  working at the same time. Each dtf has their own list of iSeries tables and columns and the corresponding generic SQL table names. Each dtf determines their list of tables based on the number of columns to import. So there is dft30 (iSeries table has 1-30 columns to import), dtf60 (iSeries table has 31-60 columns to import), etc. The destination SQL tables are generically called Staging30, Staging60, etc. Each column in the generic Staging tables are varchar(100). The dtfs are comprised of an OLE DB Source and an OLE DB Destination.

The OLE DB Source uses a SQL Command from Variable to build a SELECT statement. The OLE DB Source uses a connection manager that uses an IBM iAccess IBMDA400 provider.  The SQL Command ends up looking like this for the dtf30. This specific example is importing from the iSeries table TDACLR and it only has two columns so it will be copied to the Staging30 table.

select TCREAS AS C1,TCDESC AS C2,0 AS C3,0 AS C4,0 AS C5,0 AS C6,0 AS C7,0 AS C8,0 AS C9,0 AS C10,0 AS C11,0 AS C12,0 AS C13,0 AS C14,0 AS C15,0 AS C16,0 AS C17,0 AS C18,0 AS C19,0 AS C20,0 AS C21,0 AS C22,0 AS C23,0 AS C24,0 AS C25,0 AS C26,0 AS C27,0 AS
C28,0 AS C29,0 AS C30,''TDACLR'' AS T0 from Store01.TDACLR

The OLD DB Source variable value looks like the following, but I am not showing the full 30 columns

select cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C1,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C2,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C3,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C4,cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C5, ... cast(0 AS varchar(100)) AS C30.

The OLE DB Destination uses OpenRowSet Using FastLoad From Variable. The insert into Staging30 ends up looking like this.

insert bulk STAGE30([C1] varchar(100) ,[C2] varchar(100) ,[C3] varchar(100) ,[C4] varchar(100) ,[C5] varchar(100) , ...  ,[C30] varchar(100) ,[T0] varchar(20)

Of course we then copy and transform the Staging30 data to the SQL table that equals T0.

But back to defaultbuffermaxrows. Previously the dtfs had default values of 10000 for DefaultBufferMaxRows and 10485760 for DefaultBufferSize. I added a SQL task to SUM the iSeries column sizes, TCREAS and TCDESC in this example, and set the DefaultBufferMaxRows by dividing the SUM of the columns max_length into 10485760. But I did not see a performance improvement. Do you think that redefining the columns as varchar(100) for the insert is significant? Should I possibly SUM the actual number of columns (2) as 2x100 or SUM the 30x100?

Error When Using A Create Table Execute SQL Task Statement In Control Flow Prior To Using An OLE DB Destination Container...

May 18, 2008

SSIS Newbie Question:

I have a simple Control Flow setup that checks to see if a particular table exists. If the table does not exists, the table is created in an alternate path, if it does exist, the table is truncated before moving to a file import Data Flow that uses an OLE DB Destination to output the imported data.

My problem is, that I get OLE DB package errors if the table the OLE DB Destination Container references does not exist when I load the package.

How can I over come this issue? I need to be able to dynamically create the table in an earlier step, then use that table to import data into in a later step in the workflow.

Is there a switch I can use to turn off checking in the OLE DB Destination Container so that it will allow me to hook up the table creation step?

Seems like this would be a common task...

Steps:

1. Execute SQL Task to see if the required table exists
2. Use expresions to test a variable to check the results of step 1
3. If table exists, truncate the table and reload it from file in Data Flow using OLE DB Destination
4. If table does not exist, 1st create it, then follow the normal Data Flow

Can someone help me with this?

Signed: Clueless with a deadline approaching...

Integration Services :: File System Task Move Directory Deletes Parent Destination Folder

Mar 12, 2013

I attempted to use Move Directory to move the contents of one directory to another.  I encountered the 'different volume' issue that others have experienced.  While this error is frustrating I can work past this particular issue. My more pressing question is why is the move directory command overwriting a destination directory?

When I setup the Move directory file task I provided two vars to hold src and dest location:

dest var:  estserveroutput
src var: devserverdev estfiles
Set overwrite destination = TRUE

Why would Move Directory overwrite output folder at destination?  Shouldn't it only overwrite if the testfiles directory exists at destination?  This is very frustrating since I cannot find enough information in the official documentation to understand what is happening here.

Is it just me or does the documentation for Move directory seem.....incomplete?

FTP From A Mainframe (z/os) Box

Sep 30, 2005

Has anyone been able to use an ftp task to pull a flat file from a z/os mainframe? The ftp task appears to want the remote file to begin with a /, which pulls you into unix system services on z/os.

DTS - How To Get DB2 Data From Mainframe?

Jun 15, 2000

We would like to use DTS to pull data from DB2 on the mainframe into SQL Server 7.0 databases. Does anyone know what 3rd party products are required for us to do this (and which ones are the best to use)? What has to be installed on the mainframe and on the SQL Server?

How To FTP To Host(Mainframe)?

Jan 24, 2008

Hi,

I am trying to send files over to an ftp server on Mainframe using scripts that is provided in this link, but I can't get it to work.
The problem is the sendfile method concatinates the source file name to the MVS dataset name which causes the issue.

Here's my code (FTPConn is a connecation mgr for FTP):

Imports System

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Math

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain

Public Sub Main()

Dim mgr As ConnectionManager

mgr = Dts.Connections("FTPConn")

Dim conn As FtpClientConnection

conn = New FtpClientConnection(mgr.AcquireConnection(DBNull.Value))

Dim toFiles As String

toFiles = "ftpp.a.b.xxxxx.yyyyyy.int"

Dim fromFiles(0) As String

fromFiles(0) = "c: est.txt"

Try

conn.Connect()

conn.SendFiles(fromFiles, toFiles, True, True)

Catch ex As Exception

Finally

conn.Close()

End Try

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

End Class

Output:

SSIS package "Package.dtsx" starting.

Error: 0xC001602A at Package, Connection manager "FTPConn": An error occurred in the requested FTP operation. Detailed error description: 200 Representation type is Ascii NonPrint

200 Port request OK.

File System Task - Move File With Dynamic Destination Path

Oct 9, 2006

I am having an issue with the File System Task.

I was wondering if there is a way to 'Move File' with the File System Task inside of a For Each Loop container but to dynamically set the Destination path variable.

Currently, this is what I have:
FileDestinationPath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileSourcePath variable - set to C:TestFiles
FileNameAndLocation variable - set to blank

For Each Loop Container €“ Iterates through a folder C:TestFiles that has .txt files in it with dates in the file name. Ex: Test_09142006.txt. Sets the file path (fully qualified) to the Variable Mapping FileNameAndLocation.

Script Task (within For Each Loop, first step) €“ Sets the FileDestinationPath to the correct dated folder within C:TestFiles. For example, if the text files I want to move are for the 14th of September, it takes FileDestinationPath and appends the date folder to the end of it. The text files have a date in the file name (test_09142006.txt) and I am picking this apart (from FileNameAndLocation in the For Each Loop) to get the folder date. (dts.Variables(€śUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value = dts.Variables(€śUser::FileDestinationPath€?).Value & €ś€? Month & €ś_€? & Day & €ś_€? & Year & €ś€?) which gives me €śC:TestFiles9_14_2006€?.

File System Task (within For Each Loop, second step) €“ This is where the action is supposed to occur. I want it to take the FileDestinationPath and move the FileNameAndLocation file (from the For Loop) into this folder for each run.

Now as for my problem. I want this package to run everyday but it has to set the FileDestinationPath variable dynamically according to that day€™s date. Basically, how do I get this to work since I can€™t hard code the destination path variable from the start? I have the DestinationVariable on the File System Task set to the FileDestinationPath variable, after the script task builds it. However, using FileNameAndLocation as the SourceVariable on my File System Task tells me that the €śVariable €śFileNameAndLocation€? is used as a source or destination and is empty.€?

Let me know if I need to clarify further€¦...I may be missing something very simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bulk Insert Task Failing On Data Type Conversion For A Destination Column Of Type Bit

Jul 6, 2006

I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.

I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.

I hope someone can help me work through this.

Thanks in advance,

SK
