I plan to set up a standby server. It will require the same schedule jobs with the production server.
Is there any way I can write a stored procedure to script schedule jobs to files?

I have an hourly t-log backup job.
It's scheduled, but each night for some reason the schedule changes from "Enabled" to "Disabled".
I'm pretty sure it's not another person doing this.
Anyone seen this behavior. SQL 7, SP2
(FYI, I've dropped the job and re-created it. I'll let you know if this fixes my problem).

I have a log table that track my SSIS scheduled jobs. This SQL Agent job runs every 15 minutes for now. The problem is, when I check the status(log) table, I see it fails and succeed at random. I have checked the history and I can't figure out why it is doing this.
Has anyone any idea what is going on? At least for the fact that the package succeeds after it failed shows that nothing is wrong with it. Again when I query my detination table, it is loading data as expected when it runs succeessfully.

I have assigned a user permissions to be a db_owner on the msdb database and the user is also part of the following msdb roles:
SQLAgentUserRole
SQLAgentReaderRole
SQLAgentOperatorRole
But I notice that the user can log into the system, but they cannot change the schedule for a job, they can only view it.
I was wondering if there was a way around this without giving the user Sysadmin rights ?

Hi All,I wrote a vbscript file which copies one table records to another database table. I wrote error handling to send an email if error occurs when copying records from one table to another. I want to schedule a sql job and give this file to execute. Could anyone plz tell me how to schedule sql job which runs vbscript file. i selected ActiveXScript and choose vbscript and gave path. This is what I am going to do:
Everyday, there are users FTP the text files to a directory in the server. During the night, a job will be run to import these text files to a table.
First, the job need to read the file name, then open the file, read the first line and insert to the table until then end of the file. Then the second file will be read ... until no more file to be read.
I am using VB to read the file name and open the file, and my question is how to pass the file name to the second step which is in T-SQL?
Any experience to be shared in this area ?

How dow you schedule a file(.dtsx)(I think it is a package) that was created in the SQL Server BI Design Studio to run? I can locate the file I created in SQL Server Management Studio and see it in the right hand pane and even edit it. I can run it in the Design Studio, but cant see how to do that in Management Studio nor how to schedule it.
This is my first attempt at recreating a DTS package using SQL Server tools instead of the Legacy conversion wizard, and I think my brain has overheated. I just cant find it on the Management Screen or the Design. I am also not searching correctly anymore on books online because I cannot find it.

I am able to run SSIS packages as SQL Server Agent jobs with a Control Flow items "File system task", if I move a file (test.txt) from a drive (c on the server (where SQL Agent jobs run) to a subdirectory on the same drive. But, if I try to move a file on a network drive, the package fail.
What I can do to solve this issue.

Hi i have an web app demo that allows users to add info and change attributes within a SQL 2005 Express DB. I'd like to restore a clean copy of this database every couple of hours from a .bak file using a Windows scheduled task on the server. View 7 Replies View RelatedIn a recent attempt to keep the size of my transaction log files down I altered the schedule of my SQL Server log backups from running every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 19:00 to run every 15 minutes.My company also uses a Dell AppAssure application to also take backups. The backups are of the entire drives so I don't this will affect the size of my SQL log files but I did notice that AppAssure has a tick box to truncate the SQL logs so it made me wonder that it could affect the size of my log file. The Appassure backups currently run every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 19:00. I'm wondering if I would be able to maintain my log files at a smaller size if I ran this every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 07:00.

I'm trying to get a SSIS package to run as a SQL Server Agent job. The package uses a config file. When I try to add the config file to the job under the Configurations tab. When I click on the 'Add' button, I get the following error:

I have a SSIS package that can be run outside SQL Server Agent, but fail with SQL Server Agent for the same user login. The packages are saved in the sql server database with Windows Authentication. The protection level I used is the default one: €śencrypt sensitive data with user key€?
The packages have a step to dump data into a flat file destination. The error message is
€śCannot open the datafile€? on the local drive that the user has access to.
Any idea on how to fix it is appreciated?

Im trying to schedule an integration sevice package with no anvile. I have tried both running it in Agent under Integration services and operation system (CmdExec) and still wont work. I have created a package that runs without problem.
I run the package with the command dtexec /F "package_name.dtsx" > package_name.txt.
Then I run the same package from SQL Server Agent, everything is OK
Then, I tried to edit the command line to have the output file, but I got an error.
The command line is:
dtexec /F "package_name.dtsx" MAXCONCURRENT "-1" / CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E > package_name.txt.
(MAXCONCURRENT "-1" / CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E are created by default)
How can I do?

SQL Agent will not successfully execute my package as a job. Bids executes the package correctly as well as when I run the package manually (right click, run package) through SQL Server Management Studio. This is a permissions issue with the flat file any help will be much appreciated.Background Information:OS: SQL 2005 on Windows Server 2003Flat File Connection: \servernamefolderfile.txt (If I change the flat file location to a local file the package will run as a job successfully)Domain: The package is running on a Windows machine that is not on any domain. The network location is a Windows machine on a domain.Security: The network location folder (\servernamefolderfile.txt) has no security, namely anyone can access any file to read/write/delete/etc. I can manually add and delete files as well as add and delete files when the package runs through BIDS or when I manually run it through management studio.Permissions: I have created a login, security credential, and proxy which I am using to run the package. The security credential is tied to the Administrator account on the local machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is some sort of security issue with SQL Agent. But, the error claims that the user is running as localmachineAdministrator. Isn't this how the package would run if I manually execute it?

I've created a stored procedure that creates a script to create a number of objects within the database (based on what existing objects are in the database). From Management Studio, this works fine, and the output is exactly as I want it.
I'm now trying to create a job that will execute this stored procedure, and deposit the results into a file somewhere on the server. When the job runs, the script is created in the correct place and is essentially ok.
However, there are a couple of questions I'd like to ask.
Why does SQL Server Agent put a header at the top of the output file? I was hoping to be able to use that output file 'as is' and execute it automatically to recreate my objects when required. (Obviously, I can manually remove the header, but this is an inconvenience in this situation). How do I stop it?
Also, when executed from SSMS, the output is correctly line-spaced. But, the output from the scheduled job adds an extra line between each line of text, which is, again, inconvenient. Why does it do this, and how can I prevent this (again, without manually editting the output)?
Any thoughts and help greatly appreciated.

We are not certain if this has happened due to the SSIS FTP Task, but incidently the Excel file that is being copied from the FTP site using an SSIS FTP Task got corrupted a couple hours after the package was scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job on SQL Server 2005.
I had a SQL Server 2000 DTS package doing the same thing, but it was never an issue then. I was using the FTP Task there along with an Excel Data source in that and has been working for a couple years atleast with never any corruption related issues.
In the SSIS SQL Server 2005 package I am using an FTP Task with an Excel Connection Manager and Excel source and the Excel file got corrupted within a couple hours of the package being scheduled as a SQL Server Agent job.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Any inputs will be appreciated.
Just as an fyi, the excel file has a lot of vlookups.

I'm setting up a Maintenance Plan to do a backup for me in the night of my SQL Databases but before the backup starts I have created a SQL Server Agent Job that runs a DOS batch (.bat) file using CmdExec. The problem is I need this process to finish processing before the rest of the tasks run in the Maintenance Plan. It seems like SQL Server Agent Job Task tells the batch file to start running (and it runs fine) but it just continues to the next task and does not wait for it to finish.
Is there any way I can configure this to wait before proceeding?

When adding an SSIS step to a SQL Server Agent job, when selecting the location of a config file, the dialog lets you select from the database server you're working with. If selecting the location of the package itself (when the source is File System), the dialog lets you select from the machine where Management Studio is sitting instead of from the database server. Is that intentional? And if so, why? Should I just use a fully qualified file name for the package location rather than one using a drive letter?

The SSIS package works fine when I run it directly run it in the Designer, ie, it copies over the file to the network.
But when I run the package through the Job server agent, it fails giving me a validation error on the network path..
Does it have to do with the permissions of the User account used here? Could anyone please provide any information on this....

I recently installed standalone version of SQL 2014 Standard on my work computer. I used Access before but I want to use a SQL server instead.
We have a shared drive that a file gets deposited every day at midnight. I want to be able to get this file and import it to the server (its basically a list of names).
Here what I have done so far:
I created the database
Created the file and successfully imported data into it using the Import Data feature.
I saved the SSIS package
Scheduled an Agent Job for this package to run at certain time,daily
At first the jobs would fail with a Access is Denied. I added a user under Credentials with my network account ( have admin rights on the work computer).Also added a Proxy for the Credential user I made.
Jobs fail with a “Cannot open data file” error. I tried changing things here and there, but I can’t get it to work.
I have a package from SQL Server 2008 R2, that loads data from .xlsx file to database table.There are total 15 columns and 14000 rows in the .xlsx. The package runs fine in BIDS. But the same package in SQL Agent fails with error "omponent "Excel Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN".
When I tried to run the package by deleting the half of the records for first 7000 rows it ran successfully in agent. Then the second half (last 7000 rows) also succeed from agent job. So, there is no issue with the data/datatypes.The agent job is able to run with record upyo 11000 rows in .xlsx. When I am running for 12000 rows it is failing.Is there any problem with the number of records in .xlsx or size through SQL Agent?
