Script Task: .. To Precompile The Script, But Binary Code Is Not Found. ..visit The IDE..
Aug 24, 2006
I have a script task that I've created that just displays a MsgBox as listed in Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services in chapter 4. The problem is that when I exit the VSA design tool there is a red "X" on the task that says in a popup:
"The task is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE..."
I go back into the script design, and the code is there, and the PreCompile propterty IS set to True. Attempting to EXECUTE the task only results in a similar error, just more verbose without actually giving any additional insight.
I've read the thread on where the VSA code is deleted on closing.. but my code is still there.. it just isn't seeing the binary code (if it actually exists).
Ideas, comments or snide remarks anyone?

exporting an SSIS from a 2008 R2 SQL Server and re-import it into a SQL 2012.
I have inherited an SQL 2008 R2 Server running two SSIS packages. I have both as .dtsx files and & a manifest to install.The task at hand is now to migrate those to a new SQL 2012 server.[There is also an IIS running on that machine and project-specific .dll and stuff within the IIS document root. I do not know if these .dlls relate to the IIS web page or to the SQL .dtsx) But the migrated web site runs fine].
Installation of the packages into the MSDB works out flawlessly and one of the scripts runs fine, but the other fails to run with the error:
"Error: the binary code for the script is not found. Please open the script in the designer by clicking Edit Script button and make sure it builds successfully."
Google tell me something about a "Pre-compile option"-setting on server as explained here. I can not find this option setting anywhere in SSMS. Also as the migration is from 2008 R2 -> 2012 this should not be relevant as in both versions pre-compilation should be automatic, right?
- I installed visual studio 2013 community
- I installed SSDTBI
- Start the "Integration Services Import Project Wizard"
to import the SSIS directly from the "Integration Services Catalog"
However, things don't quite work very well - Trying to import (from the locally installed SQL instance) it will not display the tree of SSIS stuff, but only the root directory.
So importing directly from the running system won't work. Let's see if we can get somewhere with the .dtsx As I _do_ actually have the .dtsx files here, why not open them up directly in Visual studio and try to get compiled whatever needs to be compiled.I create a new "integration Services" Project and open up the .dtsx into this project. ==> LOTS of errors of all kind.
(The job of this script is to fetch messages from an Exchange.)But opening up this specific bit of code doesn't work a bit - there is no binary code in it and how to reate it or where to get it from...

After adding Service Reference to WebService, the Script Component has Binary Code not found, red circle not showing these are the steps I followed:
1) Add Script Component as Source
2) Add 3 x Output Columns Col1,2 and 3
3) Add HTTP Connection URL>..Binary Code not found, red circle showing
4) Add test code to Sub CreateNewOutputRows Dim i As Integer = 6 Binary Code not found, red circle not showing
5) Add Service Reference URL...Binary Code not found, red circle showing again
Should just adding Service Reference cause Binary Code not found, red circle to appear. I have to set precompilescripttobinary option , however cannot see this option in 2012

I've been working on adding "copy a script task from one package to another package" functionality to my SSIS Package Manager (PacMan - http://www.codeplex.com/pacman) utility in order to ease some of the pain I'm feeling in my main SSIS dev project these days. The code I have today looks something like this:
Code Block
public void CopyScriptTaskPrototype(PackageUtil sourcePackage)
{
// Basic logic taken from https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=941508&SiteID=1
const string CODE_MONIKER_TEMPLATE = "dts://Scripts/{0}/ScriptMain.vsaitem";
const string PROJ_MONIKER_TEMPLATE = "dts://Scripts/{0}/{0}.vsaproj";
const string BINN_MONIKER_TEMPLATE = "dts://Scripts/{0}/{0}.dll";
try
{
// Get the source task
TaskHost sourceScriptTaskHost = sourcePackage.ssisPackage.EventHandlers["OnPreExecute"].Executables[0] as TaskHost;
ScriptTask sourceScriptTask = sourceScriptTaskHost.InnerObject as ScriptTask;
// Get the target container
if (!this.ssisPackage.EventHandlers.Contains("OnPreExecute"))
{
this.ssisPackage.EventHandlers.Add("OnPreExecute");
}
DtsEventHandler targetContainer = this.ssisPackage.EventHandlers["OnPreExecute"];
// Delete the target task, if it exists
if (targetContainer.Executables.Contains(sourceScriptTaskHost.Name))
{
targetContainer.Executables.Remove(sourceScriptTaskHost.Name);
}
TaskHost targetScriptTaskHost = targetContainer.Executables.Add("STOCK:SCRIPTTASK") as TaskHost;
targetScriptTaskHost.Name = sourceScriptTaskHost.Name;
targetScriptTaskHost.Description = sourceScriptTaskHost.Description;
ScriptTask targetScriptTask = targetScriptTaskHost.InnerObject as ScriptTask;
targetScriptTask.SetUniqueVsaProjectName();
string sourceCodeMoniker = string.Format(CODE_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, sourceScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
string targetCodeMoniker = string.Format(CODE_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, targetScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
string sourceProjectMoniker = string.Format(PROJ_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, sourceScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
string targetProjectMoniker = string.Format(PROJ_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, targetScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
string sourceBinaryMoniker = string.Format(BINN_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, sourceScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
string targetBinaryMoniker = string.Format(BINN_MONIKER_TEMPLATE, targetScriptTask.VsaProjectName);
targetScriptTask.CodeProvider.PutSourceCode(targetCodeMoniker,
sourceScriptTask.CodeProvider.GetSourceCode(sourceCodeMoniker));
targetScriptTask.CodeProvider.PutSourceCode(targetProjectMoniker,
sourceScriptTask.CodeProvider.GetSourceCode(sourceProjectMoniker));
// We've commented this out due to errors at package runtime
//targetScriptTask.CodeProvider.PutBinaryCode(targetBinaryMoniker,
// sourceScriptTask.CodeProvider.GetBinaryCode(sourceBinaryMoniker));
targetScriptTask.PreCompile = false; // We want to be able to say "true" here
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw new ApplicationException("Could not copy script task - oh no!", ex);
}
}
This method exists within a PackageUtil class that has a private member variable named ssisPackage of type Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package, and for my current purposes I only need to worry about copying the first task from the OnPreExecute event handler for the package, so some things are hard-coded now that won't be later on.
Now, with that said, here is the question: How, through the .NET API can I force the Script Task code to be compiled so that I can set the PreCompile flag to true and have it work as if I'd done the work through VSA in the designer.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out here. This is "icing on the cake" to some extent, as the core functionality I need is currently in place, but it would be excellent to have this 100% complete.

I have code which generates packages programatically, and script task is a part of the control flow. I've succeded to set source code programatically, but I do not know how to put binary code, because I need to have my script task precompiled.
Just setting PreCompile = true does not solve this problem
Thanks in advance.

First of all let me say that ASP.NET a new programming environment for me so please forgive my ignorance.
Can someone please tell me how to write data to a SQL table that is a Binary data type? I have a stored procedure on the SQL server that I am calling to insert data into a table. I build a parameter list and set the values. It worked just fine before I added a binary field to the SQL table. My problem is that I don't know how to set the Binay data type to pass it to the stored procedure. Here is part of the code:
GetCMD = Myconnection.CreateCommand
GetCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
GetCMD.CommandText = "SCHEMANAME.InsertLineItem"
GetCMD.Parameters.Add("HEADER_ID", SqlDbType.VarChar, 150)
GetCMD.Parameters("HEADER_ID").Value = "some value"
GetCMD.Parameters.Add("@OPTIONS", SqlDbType.Binary)
GetCMD.Parameters("@OPTIONS").Value = HOW DO I SET THIS VALUE????
rowsaffected = GetCMD.ExecuteNonQuery()
I assume serialization but have not figured out how. Anyone's help is greatly appreciated!!

I am trying to backup and restore a 20GB SQL database from a SQL Server 2012 to another SQL Server 2014, but I have come across the following issues:
1) The developers [against best practice] have stored multiple images in fields within the database as binary code.
This therefore exceeds the 65532 character limit in some fields, so even though the images do show [based upon the data saved within this field], I cannot find the data in the field beyond this 65532 limit, within SQL Server.
How can I export / locate this data after the 65532 character limit?
2) When I have attempted to restore the database I am getting this error message:
Restore of database 'zapkam' failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTa sks)
Additional information:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: RESTORE detected an error on page (1:1592996) in database "zapkam" as read from the backup set. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
I have managed to restore two other smaller databases using the same technique, but am wondering if it's an issue with the database itself.
3) I have uploaded this database to the new server using FileZilla FTP Client, but it has cut out, painfully at 80% + 90% on a couple of occasions.
Is there a better solution for uploading these big files that I could possibly use? For example, uploading table by table or similar...

Hi!
I try to execute SQL Task with simple statement
insert T (comment) values (@Comment)
where comment is varchar(1000). I map package variable User::Comment (type string) to parameter @Comment in SQL Task properties. But when length of User::Comment greater than 10 characters SSIS returns errors:
Error: 0x0 at Execute SQL Task 1: String or binary data would be truncated.
Error: 0xC002F210 at Execute SQL Task 1, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "insert T (comment) values (@Comment)" failed with the following error: "The statement has been terminated.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
The similar messages from this forum suggest using the OLEDB connection. I try this method too, but get the same result.
Error: 0x0 at Execute SQL Task 1: String or binary data would be truncated.
Error: 0xC002F210 at Execute SQL Task 1, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "insert T (comment) values (?)" failed with the following error: "The statement has been terminated.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
What is it? Is this a bug, I made a mistake or I have SQL Server old version?
I have SQL 2005 (Developer Edition) 09.00.3054
TIA, Max.

When I try to create an SSIS package with an FTP task, it always fails to compile with the messages:
Error at Package: The connection "" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.
Error at FTP Task [FTP Task]: Connection manager "" can not be found.
Error at FTP Task: There were errors during task validation.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
The item is marked with a circled-X. The tool-tip also agrees: The connection "" is not found.
Using my recreation steps below, I am setting up a connection manager, but it is never found at compile time.
1. Open BIDS, select a new Integration Services project.
2. Drag an FTP task from the toolbox to the Control Flow window.
3. Double-click the FTP task.
4. On the FTP Task Editor window, General page, pull down the FTPConnection property.
5. Select <New Connection...>
6. On the FTP Connection Manager Editor window, enter the servername, port, username and password.
7. Click "Test Connection" to verify connectivity. (It succeeds.)
8. Click OK on the FTP Connection Manager Editor window.
9. Click OK on the FTP Task Editor window.
I'm not using a configuration file or logging provider for this example.
I have also installed SP2 + cumulative update 2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am using standard security in a workgroup environment. I have my trusted connection setup and I am using named pipes. I had this process working on our test servers but when I tried to implement it into production I received the above message. Please give me some ideas or things to try. What source can I use to look up the 08001 error?

We have a SQL Server 2005 Cluster that we are trying to send email from to notify when certain jobs have completed, failed, etc. We are having a bit of a problem getting the email to work and I believe that the failure is at the SMTP server, not at the SQL level.
That being said, I'm trying to create a simple SSIS package that I can use to test connectivity to the SMTP server with and send email. I've added an ActiveX Script Task that calls a COM object that actually sends the email. I keep getting a "Function not found." error when I try to execute the package, and I have no idea why I'm getting that. It says that the errors were found during validation.
Can anyone help?

I have a package with an XML Task with OperationType = Validate. The source is a string variable and the second operand is a file connection to a schema file. The schema file <include>'s other schemas. I run the package in debug mode in Visual Studio with no errors. I exit Visual Studio. Then I open Visual Studio again and run the package in debug mode like before and it fails in the xml task with error: "Task failed to validate "No schema to use in validation was found.". I don't understand why it fails since no changes were made. The strange thing is that if I click the File Connection Manager for the schema file and click Browse and then reselect the same schema file again then it runs OK. Note that I have to exit Visual Studio and not just close the package in order to repro the error. It seems like exiting Visual Studio frees some resource that is essential to the validation. Reselecting the schema file in the Connection Manager seems to restore the resource. (SP1)

I have an execute process task set up to run ftp.exe and a script argument. The ftp.exe is referenced in the executable field without a qualified path. The package just seems to know it's there relatively. I need to change this to run a secured ftp executable that I recently installed on my pc. I put the new executable in the WindowsSystem32 folder where the old ftp.exe is stored. But when I put the new executable in the executable field, it says the 'File/Process "FTPS.exe" is not in path'. I get the same error when I fully qualify the path. Is there something I need to do with the new executable for SSIS to pick it up without having to fully qualify the path?

Hi,
I am using the SMTP Task to send an email to about 200 individuals with their own specific attachment. If it cannot find the attachment the SMTP Task fails.
Is there a way to log the failure and have it keep going? That way it will still process everyone, but I would get a list of those who didn't receive the email because there was a problem.
I looked at Jamie Thompson's blog and he had a great script to send out emails. But if I use that, I haven't yet figured out how to pass the filename variable to it and attach the file. Even if I use that script, how do I deal with the errors?
Thank you for the help.

Hi,
with a script task I get an error "This task is configured to pre-compile the script but the binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Task editor by clicking Desing Script button to cause binary code to be generated".
Well, if I do so the error doesn't disappear. The only chance I have is to switch of precopilation, which is quite a performance issue...
I have no idea where this error is comming from... The script is quite easy, just some string and file operations (find out file change date using system.io)...
Any idea?

I am pulling info out of MSDB to report on job schedules. As we have a mixture of 2005 and 2000 servers, I am varying my select statement according to the result of
[Code]
Set @Version = SubString(Convert(VarChar(10), (Select ServerProperty('ProductVersion'))),1,1)
[/Code]
I have to vary the tables for each condition. Not a problem,
[Code]
if @Version = 9
begin
Select whatever from table1 join table2
end
Else
begin
Select whatever from table1 join table3
end
Problem is that SQL 2005 is trying to verify the existence of the fields in the tables on compile (it knows that the table, for example, sysjobschedules exists in 2005, but the field "Name" doesn't - although it does in 2000) , even after the if statement checking if the version is 8, and SQL 2000 uses 2 tables whilst 2005 needs 3, and the fields I need are on one table in 2000, but in a different table in 2005.
SQL 2000 is fine with it - it just does it.
Syntax checking is fine.
Just to clarify, here is my code:
[Code]
Declare @Version Char(1), @CurrentDate datetime
Set @CurrentDate = GetDate()
Create Table #TempSchedDetails
( Server VarChar(30)
,CurrentDate VarChar(19)
,JobName VarChar(80)
,ScheduleName VarChar(80)
,Freq_Type Char(1)
,Freq_Interval VarChar(2)
,JobEnabled Bit
,Freq_Subday_Type VarChar(25)
,ScheduleEnabled Bit
,StartTime VarChar(25)
,EndTime VarChar(25)
)
Set @Version = SubString(Convert(VarChar(10), (Select ServerProperty('ProductVersion'))),1,1)
If @Version = '9'
Begin
Insert Into #TempSchedDetails
Select left(@@SERVERNAME,30)
,GetDate()--@CurrentDate
,J.Name
,SS.Name
,SS.Freq_Type
,SS.Freq_Interval
,J.Enabled
,SS.Freq_SubDay_Type
,SS.Enabled
,SS.Active_Start_Time
,SS.Active_End_Time
From msdb..SysJobs J
Left Outer Join msdb..SysJobSchedules JS on J.Job_Id = JS.Job_Id
Join msdb.dbo.SysSchedules SS ON JS.schedule_id = SS.Schedule_Id
Order By J.Name, Active_Start_Time
End
Else
Begin
Insert Into #TempSchedDetails
Select left(@@SERVERNAME,30)
,@CurrentDate
,J.Name
,S.Name
,S.Freq_Type
,S.Freq_Interval
,J.Enabled
,S.Freq_SubDay_Type
,S.Enabled
,S.Active_Start_Time
,S.Active_End_Time
From MSDB..SysJobs J
Left Outer Join MSDB..SysJobSchedules S On J.Job_Id = S.Job_Id
Order by J.name, Active_Start_Time
End
[/Code]
Any ideas as to how to turn the precompile checking off in 2005?

Hi,
I'm working on a new site with a big number of future concurrent visitors so performance is very important. We're working on a search function with which users can search for multiple keywords in a single table. My .NET application consults a SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure to lookup the information. The stored procedure builds up a dynamic SQL string with which the table is queried.
An example:
User searches for 'car airco'. Alle records with the words car and/or airco in specified columns should show up. This works. The query would be
SELECT Col1, Col2 FROM Table1 WHERE (Col1 LIKE '%car%' OR Col2 LIKE '%car%')OR (Col1 LIKE '%airco%' OR Col2 LIKE '%airco%')
As I mentioned before performance is a hot issue in this project. The problem with the stored procedure is that it can't be precompiled by SQL Server (dynamic SQL string). Is there a way to search for multiple keywords without losing the precompile behaviour of SQL Server Stored Procedures?
Kind regards,
ThaYoung1!

example as follows
TableA
Column1 Column2 Column3
aaa 001 <some binary value>
aaa 002 <some binary value>
aaa 003 <some binary value>
aaa 004 <some binary value>
aaa 005 <some binary value>
desired results in TableB

I'm using a bit-wise comparison to effectively store multiple values in one column. However once the number of values increases it starts to become too big for a int data type.you also cannot perform a bitwise & on two binary datatypes. Is there a better way to store the binary data rather than int or binary?

Is it possible to ftp files using code in a Script Task? I need to read the contents of an xml file and if it has a a specific file name in there then I ftp the corresponding pdf file which is at the same location as the xml file. However I cannot do this using the provided FTP Task in SSIS, I would need to use code to do this as there are close to 50 xml files which I need to read and upload the corresponding pdf file file it meets a certain criteria.
I do not see a way of looping thru all the files in a folder unless I do this in a Script task. Any inputs or alternative comments on doing this will be appreciated.
Thanks,
MShah

does anyone know of any boilerplate code or templates (codesmith or other code-generation software) that can be used to produce a UI for a custom task?

Can anyone tell me how to capture the return code of a process launched by an Execute Process Task? I am able to capture the output by using the StandardOutputVariable but can't seem to capture the actual code.

I am just trying to capture the return code from a stored proc as follows and if I get a 1 I want the SQL Task to follow a failure(red) constrainst workflow and send a SMTP mail task warning the customer. How do I achieve the Exec SQL Task portion of this, i get a strange error message [Execute SQL Task] Error: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_SingleRow".
Using OLEDB connection, I utilize SQL: EXEC ? = dbo.CheckCatLog
EXEC SQL Task Editer settings:
RESULTSET: Single Row
PARAMETER MAPPING: User::giBatchID
DIRECTION: OUTPUT
DATATYPE: LONG
PARAMETER NAME: 0
PS-Not sure if I need my variable giBatchID which is an INT32 but I thought it is a good idea to feed the output into here just in case there is no way that the EXEC SQL TASK can chose the failure constrainst workflow if I get a 1 returned or success constraint workflow if I get a 0 returned from stored proceedure
CREATE PROCEDURE CheckCatLog
@OutSuccess INT
AS
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON
DECLARE @RowCountCAT INT
DECLARE @RowCountLOG INT
---these totals should match
SELECT @RowCountCAT = (SELECT Count(*) FROM mydb_Staging.dbo.S_CAT)
SELECT @RowCountLOG = (SELECT Count(*) FROM mydb_Staging.dbo.S_LOG)
--PRINT @RowCountCAT
--PRINT @RowCountLOG
BEGIN
IF @RowCountCAT <> @RowCountLOG
--PRINT 'Volume of jobs from the CAT file does not match volume of jobs from the LOG file'
--RETURN 1
SET @OutSuccess = 1
END
GO
Thanks in advance
Dave
