Script That Adds Index To Particular Table / Field
Jan 31, 2014
We are to write a script that adds an index to a particular table/field.This is different than a query, correct? How to I simply (manually) create a script? I you can right click on the database - Tasks - Generate Scripts, but that seems to generate a lot of fluff. I also seen the option to right click on the specific table and Script Table As, however Alter To is not available.

For some reasons I have to use a ntext field for both small strings like "10" and large binalry files.
I need to sort the field to some extend to present the small strings on a sorted nice way - answers to " What country are you from" etc.
To trick the sorting I use a calculated field:
ORDER BY RSort - where Rsort is:
convert(varchar(4), RD.response) as RSort
It works but put a high load on the SQL server when the number of responses increases.
I though of making a non clustered index based on the calculated field, but is not sure that it will work as intended.
What do I do. The last thing would be to change the ntext to vchar(3800) or something like that.

OK, I'm new to Excel 2007 but have used excel for a long time. I have a column of numbers and I'm trying to add them up. I click Sum, I highlight to cells I want to add and hit enter and it comes up with zero. The formula looks fine =SUM(G125:G127) and there are numbers in those cells (that don't add to zero) but it keeps adding them to zero. Can someone tell me why before I put my fist through my monitor?
When I go in and just click on once cell and then hit + and then another and + and another and + and then hit enter, I get #VALUE. So there must be something about how the numbers in the cells are formatted?? They look like numbers to me?
Thanks, Peter

Hi,
I'm running a merge replication on a sql2k machine to 6 sql2k subscribers.
Since a few day's only one of the merge agents fail's with the following error:
The merge process could not retrieve generation information at the 'Subscriber'.
The index entry for row ID was not found in index ID 3, of table 357576312, in database 'PBB006'.
All DBCC CHECKDB command's return 0 errors
I'm not sure if the table that's referred to in the message is on the distribution side or the subscribers side? A select * from sysobjects where id=357576312 gives different results on both sides . .
Any ideas as to what is causing this error?

Hi everyone,
When we create a clustered index firstly, and then is it advantageous to create another index which is nonclustered ??
In my opinion, yes it is. Because, since we use clustered index first, our rows are sorted and so while using nonclustered index on this data file, finding adress of the record on this sorted data is really easier than finding adress of the record on unsorted data, is not it ??
Thanks

We host our reports in an ASP.NET page using a rsweb:reportviewer control. This is contained within a frameset in the web site. I've created a "Jump to URL" on a report field from this report to another page hosted on the same site. This works, but the problem is that the report gets rendered with a hyperlink that has a TARGET="_top" attribute in it. Is there any way to override this. This pops out of the frameset because of this.
Thanks.

Hello,
I have a report in wich I show a list of countries. The length of this list differs each month and comes from a SSAS datasource.
I want to show this list on my report in a matrix like this:
country1 country6 country11
country2 country7 country12
country3 country8
country4 country9
country5 country10
How can I do this? I need some sort of check that counts the number of countries added and then adds a new column after 5 countries.
I'm sure there is somebody that did this or knows how to do this.
Thanks in advance!

I've got a table with the following fields and data types
ProjIDint
StatusDatedatetime
ProjStatusvarchar(1)
I want to put a unique index on the fields above, each ProjID can only have one ProjStatus on a given StatusDate (dd/mm/yyyy) , but because of the milliseconds in the date time it's not happening. Any suggestions on how I can get around this.
Thanks in advance.

I created Encryption by passphrase . The data type of the encrypted field is varbinary(MAX). Now I want to make one Index on this filed. Name of the encrypted colum is ''Encrypted Account Number' " and the name of the table is "S3schema-Test". The value of ''Encrypted Account Number" is unique. I wrote the following T-sql code :-
CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX [IDX_Encrypted Account Number1]
on [S3schema-Test] ([Encrypted Account Number])
But I am getting following errors:-
Column 'Encrypted Account Number' in table 'S3schema-Test' is of a type that is invalid for use as a key column in an index.
Any Idea, how to fix this error?

Hi,
I have one table (PermProportionalCosting) that contains employeecode, costcentre and proportionpercentage. An employee may have two or more records in this table, indicating that their salary has been split across multiple costcentres.
Another table (Employee) contains a default costcentre for each employee.
Another table (TransActualHistoricalMaster) contains the hours paid to each employee for each pay period.
My query so far selects all employees and the total hours worked from the TransMaster table, and then selects the costcentre and proportionpercentage from the PermProportionalCosting table. Multiple lines are created for all employees in the PermProportionalCosting table, with each line indicating the proportionpercentage and associated costcentre.
This is my query so far:
SELECT TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode, Employee.PreferredName, Employee.LastName, CostCentre.Description, PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode,PermanentProportionalCosting.PercentageSplit,
TransActualHistoricalMaster.OrdHours
FROM TransActualHistoricalMaster
INNER JOIN Employee ON TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode = Employee.EmployeeCode
INNER JOIN CostCentre ON Employee.CostCentreCode = CostCentre.CostCentreCode
FULL OUTER JOIN PermanentProportionalCosting ON TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode = PermanentProportionalCosting.EmployeeCode
GROUP BY TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode, Employee.PreferredName, Employee.LastName, CostCentre.Description, PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode, PermanentProportionalCosting.PercentageSplit, TransActualHistoricalMaster.OrdHours
This next bit is what I am unsure of.
I would like the CostCentre field from the Employee table to go into the PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode column where the employee doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table. In the above query, there is a null value for each employee that doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table, so I would like my query to replace the null value with the costcentre from the Employee table.
Any assistance would really be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a concern about adding a new field to a table with image field - which is huge.
Will there be a problem with some databases, where they have a hard time locating data correctly after such a large field?
Previously this happened to me, and what was advised to put all the big fields at the end of the table.
Thanks.

I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express.
(Below are the three tables along with their fields)
1) tblEmailAddress Table
a) EmailAddress
b) Emailid (each EmailAddress has this corresponding Emailid)
2) tblEmailGroupLink Table
a) Emailid
b) Unsubscribed
3) Remove_List Table
a) EmailAddress
What I'd like to accomplish is...
A) To compare the EmailAddress field of all the records in the Remove_list Table to the EmailAddress field of all the records in the tblEmailAddress Table and if there is a match, get the Emailid field value.
B) Go to the tblEmailGroupLink Table and lookup the Emailid and change the value of the Unsubscribed field to 'True' for that record.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks,
