Jul 23, 2005Is there a script that I can run to stop a particular SQL server service on
Win2003 server? I'm looking for a similar script to restart that service as

Dec 1, 2006I program a batch file for SQL server2000 disarstrer recovery. It just stops sqlserver service and copy data file to a flash drive, then restart service.

after "net stop sqlserver", not stop for all time.
but, I can kill process from task manager.
How can I fix this probelm ?

Oct 15, 2007A few service stop/start/restart questions on SQL Server 2005 SP2, whichI'll call SQLS.It looks as if there are *potentially* 6 ways to start/stop SQLSServices like the engine itself, integration services, reportingservice, Agent..-SQLS Configuration Manager-SQLS Surface Area Configuration (for Services and Connections)-Mgmt Studio Local (on server)-Mgmt Studio Remote (on client)-Windows Control Panel->Admin Tools->Services-Command Prompt (ala net start MSSQLSERVER)By policy, I am /not/ Administrator on the server. But I am SysAdminrole in SQLS. I have had various levels of success starting/stoppingservices in the ways listed above. In some I get Access denied, and inothers I get no msg and it simply doesn't work.Is there some special non-Admin OS group I need to be in to start/stopservices? Is this handled differently in the different interfaceslisted above?It seems like my best success for starting/stopping the engine and Agentis in /local/ Mgmt Studio, but /not/ remote Mgmt Studio - the optionsare greyed out on a remote client. Jul 12, 2007I have an almost virgin install of SQLExpres running on a WIN2K Pro system.
Have been able to create and connect db to Access 2000 without problem.
Now I wish to extend to remote connections. Using Surface Area Configuration tool, I changed Remote Connections to Local and Remote.
Whenever this setting contains TCP/IP and I try to restart the service I receive the following errors:
System Log:
The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service terminated with service-specific error 10013.
Application Log:
Server TCP provider failed to listen on [ 'any' <ipv4> 0]. Tcp port is already in use.
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0xa.
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0x1.
Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.
SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
If I change back to Local Connections Only or Local and Remote using named pipes only, the service starts up again without a problem.
After five days of investigating, researching, reinstalling and waiting I have to ask for help.
Any suggestions or leads?

It should be very helpful to be able to create a metadata databases where you could find all releations between different objects (tables,views,reports,cubes,DTS-package,Databases.
Just to get answer for: 'where is view xxx used', 'what are Report xxx depending upon'.
While everything exists in different SQL databases it should possible to do.
Has anyone any comments or the same needs ?
Conversation Handle Processed By An Activated Stored Procedure Service Can Not Be Invoked By A CLR Service Instance?
Dec 1, 2006I have a initiator and a target service broker peer.
Both are controlled by a C# unit test. The initiator uses the Microsoft.Samples.SqlServer class. The target service uses stored procedure activation.
Sending a message from the initiator to the target, saves the content of the message, along with its conversation handle in the target's database specific table.
The unit test needs - at a later time - to instruct the target to send a message back on the same conversation handle to the initiator service.
For this the C# unit test creates a Conversation off of the saved conversation handle:
Service client = new Service("cleintservicename", conn, tran);
Conversation dialog = null;
dialog = new Conversation(client, convHandle);
Sending the message on this dialog generates an error "Message body: <Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8495</Code><Description>The conversation has already been acknowledged by another instance of this service.</Description></Error>".
Is the error due to the fact that a service - using the activated stored procedure already picked up the conversation, so that a new reference to the service can not be created through the Service class in CLR?
If so, I might need then to skip the activated stored procedure in favor or a CLR service, alltogether?

We seem to be being plagued by the error below by our SQL Server agent. This happens almost everytime we restart the server that has been running for a day or two.
Our SQL Server Agent uses a none expiring domain credential. I understand that this problem only happens when the profile being used by the SQL Servr Agent has changed (password change). What puzzles me is that the login is A ok and no changes has been made to it's password.
We always resolve this problem by changing the login used in the SQL Server Agent to local and after that, returning it back to it's original domain login. Unfortunately, we cant always do this everytime something goes wrong.
Can anyone please help us shed a light on this? We're using SQL2k with SP3a. Thanks!

Cant Stop SQL Server
Sep 1, 1998I use EM to handle 2 SQL servers. One I can `stop`; the other I can`t. (except I think I used to be able to do so).
When I select the `stop` I get the following message from EM:
"An error 1051 - (A stop control has bee sent to a service which other running services are dependent on) occurred while performing the service operation on the MSSQLServer service."
How do I track down what this other running service is? How do I stop SQL?

Stop Preparing My SQL!
Nov 30, 2007I have a performance issue with a Cognos report against SQL Server 2005.
The total running time of the report is 1 minute 15, and using SQL Profiler I found out that 1m13 is spent preparing SQL. Execution and generating the report takes up 2 seconds; no problem there.
The SQL is the same every time I run the report, yet SQL Server spends 1m13 preparing it every single time! I'm no DBA, but as far as I understand that's not what's supposed to happen; once prepared, the SQL should execute quickly every time.
Is there a way to stop SQL from preparing the statement every time?
(Cognos 8 against SQL Server 2005 through OLEDB. Oh, and this query takes about a second when run in EM.)

Why should I not load 20,00 records because of one bad record?
I have tediously changed every field on every tool to "Ignore Error".
Why should I still have to do this? I mean why does SSIS default to failure?
Is there some switch I could change in the XML that would change this default behaviour?
The problem with the data in this case: a NewLine character was missing so it looked to the data flow as one very long line.

How To Stop A Package

In one of my packages, I have a script component to do a transformation and I am inserting the output to table. Within that script component, if the data does not match my requirement, I have to stop the job. For that, I am using 'componentmetadata.fireError' to raise an error. The problem is, now even when an error is raised, the job completes by loading the remaining records and then aborts. But I want to abort the job as soon it raises an error. How to do this?

Aug 6, 2007I create a publication with 1 article with a parameterized filter. Empty table without records. Then i went to create a snapshot through snapshot agent. After snapshot was created, data are inserted with "Insert Into..Select" SQL statement. A total of 20 millions records (10GB) are inserted. When i try to sync with a SQL compact edition, the synchronization % stop at 0 for more than 1 hour. Does that mean it is not working?
