Search Database For Tables With Specified Column Name
May 5, 2004
Hi there,
I am currently seaching a db for all tables that have the same column name, for example, 'qdate'. Can anyone let me know how I can write a script that will search a db for all tables with this column name 'qdate'?
well i am using vb.net and would like to know how to search a specific table in the databasefor egif table1 exists in database then drop table1end if ...something like that
Is their a way to search every table in a database for a particular character string that might appear in any column in any of the tables?
For example suppose in a hypothetical situation that the character string "http://www.DrSeusOnTheLoose.com" appears randomly in a database, but we do not know which tables it occurs in and in what columns. How can we do a search to find such a character string?
As you know, this is easily accomplished in MS Windows XX or through a dos command line script. But when it comes to searching a whole database, I don't know how to do this. Can someone please help me? Ralph
I have a string which I need to know where it came from in a database.I don't want to spend time coding this so is there a ready made scriptwhich takes a string as a parameter and searches all the tables whichcontain varchar type columns and searches these columns and indicate whichtables contain that string?Full text search is not enabled.--Tonyhttp://dotNet-Hosting.com - Super low $4.75/month.Single all inclusive features plan with MS SQL Server, MySQL 5, ASP.NET,PHP 5 & webmail support.
How do I search for and print all stored procedure names in a particular database? I can use the following query to search and print out all table names in a database. I just need to figure out how to modify the code below to search for stored procedure names. Can anyone help me out? SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA + '.' + TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
Dear All, i dont know the exact reson why, but i'm guessing the reason for each table had a new guid column is because of transactional replication with update subscribers. actually i dont need this. can i change this to transactional replication? or i need to drop the column in each table? please guide me

I'm not a full-time DBA, so excuse my style of expressing my question.I have a database which has 2 tables in SQL 2005. Both these tables have similar column names, EXCEPT for new extra columns in FY2007_DATA. I can visually see the difference in columns in Database Diagrams. My goal is to :- I want to compare FY2007 tbl column names to FY2006 column names and display only those columns as results that do not match.Tbl 1 :- FY2006_DATA Tbl 2:-
FY2007_DATA
With online reading and help I have managed to get this script to do exactly opposite of what i want. Below is the query
/* This query compares the column names from two tables and displays the ones that have an exact match. It does not care for case-sensitiveness */
Select a.Table_Name, a.Column_Name, (b.Table_Name), (b.column_name) From [2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS a Join [2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS b on a.Column_Name = b.Column_Name Where a.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2006_DATA' And b.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2007_DATA' AND a.Column_Name IN (Select Column_Name = LEFT(c.column_name, 20) FROM [H1B_2006-2011].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns AS c WHERE c.TABLE_NAME = 'FY2007_DATA' )
When I change "AND a.Column_Name IN.." to "AND a.Column_Name NOT IN.." so that the results will (should) display the extra columns in FY2007, in fact I do not see any results, but query executes perfect.
Does anyone have a script that can add a GUID Column to multiple Tables in a Database.
For example when a table has an Identity column like EmployeeID, a column called EmployeeGUID is added to the table. When a table has an Identity column like CustomerID, a column called CustomerGUID is added to the table. When a table has an Identity column like OrderID, a column called OrderGUID is added to the table.
I intend to implement replication in SQL Server 2005, so i want to add new GUID columns to all the table in my database before implementing replication
The SQL script below adds a column to a single table in a database. But i need a script that can add a column to all the tables in a database.
Thanks
USE ProductDB
ALTER TABLE dbo.Employees Add EmployeeGUID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER ROWGUIDCOL NOT NULL DEFAULT NEWSEQUENTIALID()
Can anyone tell me how to search an SQL database for a given key word in a textbox? I basically have a database that has a qualifications column and this column needs to be searched for the data given in the textbox. Which is the best method to search for the data? Is it a simple SQL query or an XML based search engine type? Can anyone give any suggestions regarding this? If XML is efficient then how do I use it to query my database, as I'm pretty new in XML based searching. Thanks
hi there, i am doing a school project and i need to have this search engine that will search the data that i have stored inside the database and display the results out can anyone help? thanks

I would like to do a key word search in a small sql server db (30Mo) (search in all tables). I opted to export the db and perform this search.
The proble is : when we use export DTS with Excel as a source, each table is put in a tab (in the Excel document). when we use a text file as a source. I have the chose to select only one table (to all tables).

I drew short straw on some reports work and am spending an eternity searching through catalogs looking for tables and columns. I'm a little new to SQL. Is there a way to search a catalog for table column names?
I need to search all tables in my user database to find a value. I don't know what the column name is.
I know of one table that contains the value, but I need to look through all the tables and all there columns to see if I can find if this value exists in more than one place. It is an int value - 394789.
I want to search through 3 tables (TableB, TableC, TableD) to find which hdr_ctl_nbr(s) are on those tables but not on TableA. In other words, TableA should match the combined tables B, C, and D but it doesn't, so I want to find what's missing on TableA. I know how to search TableB (see SELECT below) but how would I add TableC and TableD to this statement ? Thanks, Jeff
Select hdr_ctl_nbr, count(*) from TableA c where c.hdr_ctl_nbr not exists (select hdr_ctl_nbr from TableB) group by c.hdr_ctl_nbr
I'm looking for a stored procedure (or query) to search an entiredatabase for a specific string value and replace it with another. I'msure I saw an SP for this a while back by someone, but cannot find itagain. The SP took the search string and replace string as parametersand did the rest. Any ideas where I can find this ?Bear in mind, the idea is that this can be re-used and run on anydatabase, so it would have to find all tables and search through those.TaRyan
I'm working on search query for a troubleticket system. There are two tables I want to search, the description in the tickets tableand the corresponding notes in the notes table. The problem is there is aone to many relationship between the tickets (one) and the notes (many)tables.I only need the ticket number of any ticket that finds the search string inthe description or any of the corresponding notes.
Hello, Is it possible to search in two tables, let's say table # 1 in specific field e.g. (age). If that field is empty then retrieve the data from table #1, if not retrieve the data from table # 2. Is it possible to do it by using SQL Stored Procedure?? Thank you
Is there a way to search all the tables in a database for a value that is found in a specific column? Another problem is that although this specific column will be found in most of the tables in the database, it has a different two or three digit prefix in the column name for each table.
I think the logic will go something like this...
As the script jumps from table to table, it should first look for a column whose name ends with ***ITM. If it does not find a column with ***ITM it should move on to the next table. If it does, then search the ***ITM column for my value. If it does not find my value, then move to the next table. But if it does, change my value to a new value.
I have a table with calendar months as columns with values in. I update this table for each month as new data comes in for each month. I need to be able to examine the table and return for each row the last column with data in. ie row1 has data for apr/may/jun need to return jun row2 has data for apr/may need to return may row3 has data for apr/may/jun/jul need to return jul...
