Hi there,
I am currently seaching a db for all tables that have the same column name, for example, 'qdate'. Can anyone let me know how I can write a script that will search a db for all tables with this column name 'qdate'?

Then look for all values in each table where the GEO value is NULL and delete each of the records found...
Can anyone tell me how to search an SQL database for a given key word in a textbox? I basically have a database that has a qualifications column and this column needs to be searched for the data given in the textbox. Which is the best method to search for the data? Is it a simple SQL query or an XML based search engine type? Can anyone give any suggestions regarding this? If XML is efficient then how do I use it to query my database, as I'm pretty new in XML based searching. Thanks

I'm just wonder if this is a bug in MS Search or am I doing something wrong.
I have a query below
declare @search_clause varchar(255)
set @Search_Clause = ' "hepatitis b" and "hepatocellular carcinoma"'
select * from results
where contains(finding,@search_clause)
I don't get the correct result at all.
If I change my search_clause to "hepatitis" and "hepatocellular carcinoma -- without the "b"
then i get the correct result.
It seems MS Search doesn't like the phrase contain one letter or some sort or is it a know bug?
Anyone know?
Thanks

Hi All,
I use SQL Server 2005, I have more than 15 databases, each database has got more than 30 tables, and each tables has got more than 15 columns some of them 10, 30 it depends. My concern is, if I want to a certain column (example, Line_No) How could i search it? It is time taking to trace out each db and table. The thing is if i forget it in which table is this column how do i found it? is there a search for column level in sql server 2005? Please help if any.
Thank you In advance,
I am trying to check if a string (strFind) exists anywhere in a table (myTable)
Is there a way to SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE (anyColumn) = strFind ?
I have access to a database's web front end and a limited amount of access to the server.
I am trying to find out what column a certain string is in.
I can see some text on the front end via the web that a user enters and then submits. This information must go to the back end of the database but I dont know where it goes...
I am able to provide a unique Sequence number that it would be linked with and obviously I have the string that im looking for its column name but other then that I dont know what I can do.
I don't have write access to the database so I am unable to make procedures. I am also not really aware how the front end works or if I would be able to find the script that deals with the text after the user hits "save"...

Hi All,
I have a company table with CompanyName and Address details.
In the Company Name field - I have got companies with names like - 'The 1% Club', '99% Pure Water', 'The 1% Golfer' etc...
I want to search for Companies with % using the LIKE clause - Say for ex.
SELECT CompanyName from Company WHERE CompanyName LIKE 'The 1%%'
I was expecting the above query to return - All Companies starting with 'The 1%' - So from the above list - I expected it to return - 'The 1% Club' and 'The 1% Golfer'.
Unfortunately the query isn;t accepting % in the WHERE LIKE clause except for the wildcard character.
Is there a way out to escape the Wildcard Characters present in the Field Values while searching.
Thanks,
Loonysan
Is it possible to do a wildcard search on an encrypted column?
Many thanks!
SQL 2000.I need a query that will search a field in the table that is 14characters long and begins with a number.I have a client that was allowing people to store credit card numbers, plain text, in an application. I need to rip through the table andreplace every instance of credit card numbers with "x" and the last 4digits. I got the replace bit going, but I am stuck on how to searchfor a string in a field of a specific length.Any ideas?Thanks,--Mike
View 5 Replies View RelatedCan anybody provide an example of how to specify a column list in a CONTAINS statement? Documentation says it must be comma separated inside parenthesis - I have tried (every combination of) this but always get the error "Incorrect syntax near '('.", for example:
SELECT .... WHERE CONTAINS((Name,Description), '"options"')
This works fine when just querying one column (without the parenthesis).
I have 2 tables in a SQL Server database:
Table A(Value), which contains some strings in the column "Value"
Table B(Key,Text), which also contains strings (in the column "Text")
Now I want to find all rows in B which contain at least one string of A and create a result table X with all found rows in B. B should contain the found keys and all found substrings for this key (separated with a comma)
The solution I am looking for may not use a Cursor and may not use the CONTAIN-Statement (fulltextsearch feature)..
Hi, I need to search a column in my database (varchar:50) that contains a comma delimited string of numbers (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10). Currently, I am doing the following SQL query:
SELECT * FROM people WHERE clubs_belongs_to LIKE '%1%'
Where 1 is the number I'm searching for. The problem with the query above is that it returns records that contain 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, etc. in the clubs_belongs_to field. I want the query to only return those people who belong to club number 1, not 10, 11, 12, etc. Please help. Thanks in advance. I have tried using IN instead of LIKE, but that didn't seem to get the results I wanted either.
I am using SQL Server 2008. In one of my table, one column has values like
"MFY RLHH CSQÉ"
"Aamj Gxmolwn Slf Yytrzgan Hiwd Fnlmyw"
So to fetch the data having only special characters in it, I used below query
Select * From Table Where Column Like '%[^0-9a-zA-Z]%' Escape ' '. Its returning both the records. Here I would like to fetch records for those Unicode characters only which are not within 00201 - 0070E [URL].
I need to categorize some rows of a column into specific type. Criteria for the category search is to find a string which is enclosed at both the ends "_"
Example:
_you_,
are_you_,
are_you_jack
But when I give condition like '%_you_% I end up getting records which are like "areyou_".
create table #test
(n varchar(30))
insert into #test values
('sql_2012'),
('ssis_msbi_'),
('ssrs_msbi'),
('ssasmsbi_')
select n,
case
when n like '%_msbi_%' then 'yes'
else 'no'
end as type
from #test
In the above query I need type as "yes" only for "ssis_msbi_". But the above query results with "yes" even for ssasmsbi_. What I need to do, to get just the data which has "_msbi_" in it.
I have written a simple DAX calculated column formula using SEARCH and got an error: It tells the text "PWP" cannot be found but as you can see the screen shows this text exsist within "Promotional Claim"The same happens when I try FIND function.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use CONTAINSTABLE to do a product search on a number of columns. I want matches on some columns to be weighted higher than for other columns.
It seems like there should be a way to do this with CONTAINSTABLE - I know I can search by multiple strings and weight those matches variably, but what I want is to vary the weight by which column a single term matched. What I have now is a series of UNION queries, which are quite slow:
===================
SELECT m.TitleCode, m.ShortName, m.ShortDescription, a.Rank, 50 as theWeight
FROM CONTAINSTABLE (Product, ShortName, @theSearchTerm) as a, Product m(NoLock)
WHERE a.[KEY] = m.TitleCode
UNION ALL
SELECT m.TitleCode, m.ShortName, m.ShortDescription, a.Rank, 40 as theWeight
FROM FREETEXTTABLE (Product, ShortName, @theSearchTerm) as a, Product m(NoLock)
WHERE a.[KEY] = m.TitleCode
UNION ALL
SELECT m.TitleCode, m.ShortName, m.ShortDescription, a.Rank, 30 as theWeight
FROM FREETEXTTABLE (Product, MatchKeywords, @theSearchTerm) as a, Product m(NoLock)
WHERE a.[KEY] = m.TitleCode
UNION ALL
SELECT m.TitleCode, m.ShortName, m.ShortDescription, a.Rank, 20 as theWeight
FROM FREETEXTTABLE (Product, ShortDescription, @theSearchTerm) as a, Product m(NoLock)
WHERE a.[KEY] = m.TitleCode
ORDER BY 'theWeight' DESC, m.ShortName
===================
What is the better way?
Hi, I was wondering if any SQL Server gurus out there could help me...I
have a table which contains text resources for my application. The text
resources are multi-lingual so I've read that if I add a html language
indicator meta tag e.g.<META NAME="MS.LOCALE" CONTENT="ES">and
store the text in a varbinary column with a supporting Document Type
column containing ".html" of varchar(5) then the full text index
service should be intelligent about the language word breakers it
applies when indexing the text. (I hope this is correct technique for
best multi-lingual support in a single table?)However, when I come to query this data the results always return 0 rows (no errors are encountered). e.g.DECLARE @SearchWord nvarchar(256)SET @SearchWord = 'search' -- Yes, this word is definitely present in my resources.SELECT * FROM Resource WHERE CONTAINS(Document, @SearchWord)I'm a little puzzled as Full Text search is working fine on another table that employs an nvarchar column.Any pointers / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers,Gavin.
hi, I have a question regarding calling sql table columns dynamically? workflow would go as:1. user enters search term into a textbox2. user checks a checkbox to search by column in sqldb (eg.. firstname or surname) pseudo sql would go like......SELECT +%column1(checkbox1.value)%+ OR +%column2(checkbox2.value)%+ OR +%column3(checkbox3.value)%+WHERE column1 = +%TextBox.Text%+ OR column2 = +%TextBox.Text%+ 3. display results in gridview my sql needs to improve greatly so any code insight(good book or link) would be terrific . thanks

Hi everyone,
I am a newbie to SSIS and looking for answer to a simple search/replace style question.
I am building a derived column and looking for some expression syntax that can search for several strings in one column and set a value in a new column.
A bit like a case statement:
CASE ProductLine
WHEN 'R1' THEN 'Road'
WHEN 'M1' THEN 'Mountain'
WHEN 'T1' THEN 'Touring'
WHEN 'S1' THEN 'Other sale items'
ELSE 'Not for sale'
END,
The twist is that 'R1','M1','T1','S1' could feature anywhere in the string that is ProductLine.
Thanks for all your help,
regards,
Chris
Hi guys,
I am looking for some syntax to help me with a traditional search/replace style requirement. I am wanting to examine the contents of one column and populate another.
similar to this SQL case statement
CASE ProductLine
WHEN 'R1' THEN 'Road'
WHEN 'M1' THEN 'Mountain'
WHEN 'T1' THEN 'Touring'
WHEN 'S2' THEN 'Other sale items'
ELSE 'Not for sale'
END,
the twist is that R1, M1 etc. can appear anywhere in the ProductLine column.
thanks for any assistance you can provide.
regards,
Chris
