Search Entire Database For Keywords Inside Of Columns For Each Table
Sep 18, 2013
I'm trying to create a query that searches an entire database for keywords inside of the columns for each table within the database. For instance my tables have 2 columns one named ID and the other Permission, I'd like it be able to return all the lines that are associated with that keyword. So if I search "Schedule" it returns all the lines containing that word in it within that database.

I have a scenario of where the standard Full-Text search identifies keywords but Semantic Search does not recognize them as keywords. I'm hoping to understand why Semantic Search might not recognize them. The context this is being used in medical terminology and the specific key words I noticed missing right off the bat were medications.
For instance, if I put the following string into a FT indexed table
'J9355 - Trastuzumab (Herceptin)'
AND
'J9355 - Trastuzumab emtansine'
The Semantic Search recognized 'Herceptin' and 'Emtansine' but not 'Trastuzumab'
Nor in
'J8999 - Everolimus (Afinitor)'
It did not recognize 'Afinitor' as a keyword.
In all cases the Base of Full-Text did find those keywords and were identifiable using the dmvsys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document.It does show the index as having completed.
why certain words might not be picked up while others would be? Could it be a language/dictionary issue? I am using English and accent insensitive settings?

Hi,
I'm trying to do a query to do a search by keywords. For example if the user searches for "Hottest restaurants in Atlanta" i want to write a query that searches that exact phrase first in a database field called keywords and if it shows up there then that record should be displayed first.. and then after do a search for EACH one of the words in a number of fields in the database and see if it shows up.
here is what i have so far but it always returns the same thing. any ideas?
$searchArray=explode(" ",$search);
$query = "SELECT ID,name,description from restaurants WHERE keywords = '$search' OR (";
foreach($searchArray as $key){
$query = $query . " (name LIKE '%$key%' OR subType LIKE '%$key%' OR features LIKE '%$key%' OR neighborhood LIKE '%$key%' OR region LIKE '%$key%') OR";
}
$query = substr($query,0,strlen($query)-3);
$query = $query . ") order by keywords";
any ideas?

Hi,
I'm working on a new site with a big number of future concurrent visitors so performance is very important. We're working on a search function with which users can search for multiple keywords in a single table. My .NET application consults a SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure to lookup the information. The stored procedure builds up a dynamic SQL string with which the table is queried.
An example:
User searches for 'car airco'. Alle records with the words car and/or airco in specified columns should show up. This works. The query would be
SELECT Col1, Col2 FROM Table1 WHERE (Col1 LIKE '%car%' OR Col2 LIKE '%car%')OR (Col1 LIKE '%airco%' OR Col2 LIKE '%airco%')
As I mentioned before performance is a hot issue in this project. The problem with the stored procedure is that it can't be precompiled by SQL Server (dynamic SQL string). Is there a way to search for multiple keywords without losing the precompile behaviour of SQL Server Stored Procedures?
Kind regards,
ThaYoung1!

Hi, Could you tell me if this is possible? How do I return results using an entire column as part of the search parameter? I need to do this in the sql rather than selecting the contents and iterating through it as it would take too long.
eg.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tPopupKeywords](
[id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT FOR REPLICATION NOT NULL,
[title] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL,
[description] [nvarchar](2000) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
INSERT INTO dbo.tPopupKeywords(title, description)
SELECT 'check', 'desc' UNION ALL
SELECT 'for', 'desc' UNION ALL
SELECT 'keywords', 'desc'
select dbo.tpopupkeywords.title
where 'This is an example of a passed in string to check if any keywords are returned.'
LIKE '% ' + dbo.tpopupkeywords.title + ' %' --Does this bit need to do a select??
expected results.....:
check
keywords

I've a database with a table that has 16 columns that are searchable. There can be a numerous combination of those columns used for searching...
In this case the best solution is to create an index on each column individually or at least the most used?

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to dynamically delete all of the values for a group of columns. What I mean by this is that lets say a table (TableA) has five fields (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4, and Field5) with 100 rows of data. I want to delete all of the data in Field1, Field2, and Field4. I do not want to delete any of the data in Field3 and Field5. I would then end up with a table with 5 fields and 100 row, but only 2 fields (Field3 and Field5) have data.
The catch is that I can't hardcode the field names of the fields I want to clear out (Field1, Field2, and Field4) into the SQL. This is because if any new fields are eventually added to the table I want them to be cleared out as well without modifying the SQL.
I can hardcode the field names of the fields that I want to keep values for (Field3 and Field5) in the SQL.
If anyone has any idea how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

I have a database that has a table that contains basic demographics
•First_name
•Last_name
•Address
•City
•State
•Zip phone
•email
•dob
•etc
•etc
Contained in this table are a lot of duplicate names, and even different addresses. I would like to return an entire row of UNIQUE information based upon “first_name + last name”. Now I know just enough of sql to pull out unique first + last names, but not the entire row based upon this unique information.

This is what I wan to do: If I, for example, have a table containing articles, and I want to allow users to return any article that matches a filter, which is defined by any number of keywords, located in another table.
My tables:
Article table: [ArticleID, Headline, Content]
Filter table: [FilterID, Name]
Keyword table: [KeywordID, Word]
FiltersKeywords table: [FilterID, KeywordID]
(The FiltersKeywords table serves as a many-to-many relation table between the Keyword table and the Filter table)
In other words, a filter, which is used to selected articles with, can be made up of any number of keywords. The users would thus be able to build on the filters, adding new keywords as time goes, removing old none relevant etc. I suspect some filters could end having anywhere from 100 to 1000 keywords associated with them.
Using SQL 2005, is there anyway to query for articles in an efficient manner? How would the code look?
Thanks, Egil.

Hi there,
I need to develop a module and wondering what would be the best implementation...
I get a list of files from a text file and store it in a Recordset Destination (object variable "CUST_INV_LIST").
I need to check that all the files in a directory are in the list. I can loop through the files in the directory using a ForEach container, but how do I check if it is in the CUST_INV_LIST recordset?
I thought about using another ForEach container to loop through the recordset, check if the physical file is equal to that row, if so set a flag, ... but it's neither elegant nor effective.
Another option would be to use a Script Task to search for the physical file name in the recordset. I tried with the Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter, etc. but I get and error when I declare Data.DataTable. Anyways that method of accessing a recordset is not recommanded and seems complicated.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

im pretty new to SQL and i'm just reading up on full-text searches... i need to do a a full-text search on one table i have in the database.. however I'm reading about full-text indexing/searching and a lot of pages are saying that it uses a lot of resources when searching.. i was wondering how bad is it really? we have about ~100 users who would access the database, probably the peak would be 75 at a time.. would people using a full-text searching slow it down a lot? the servr is a dell poweredge 1750 server, dual 2.8ghz xeon, 1 gig ram.. and also, about the incermental population, if i read right, it populates the catalog each time a item in the table is deleted/inserted/modified.. so would that use a lot of resources as well?
i'm just trying to see if it's worth it to enable full-text indexing for searches on the database if it doesn't slow down the server too much... or are there any better/easier ways to perform searches?
thanks

Hi, I'm a noob who sucks at programming, and sucks even more when it comes to database.
I'm operating a small website with an SQL Server database that drives my shopping cart. I want to close this website down, but I don't want to lose all the data in the database in case I want to do something in the future.
How do you backup the entire database into a file so i might be able to import it at later times? Do I have to do this with SQL, T-SQL, or the manager?

Hi, this is my first post on these forums, so please excuse me if this topic has already been covered.
I'm currently working in a power station for student vacation work placement. I need to export data from a database that gets it's data from machinery and inputs out in the plant. The machines that provide this input put it into a database, and I need to find the relevant data to export.
My problem is that, in some cases, the sample data that i'm given may be under different field names, in a completely unrelated table. I was looking for a way to search the entire database (250+ tables) for a certain string, so I can find where it is in the database, and run queries on the table it originates from. For example:
My sample data shows me that I have an object with the ID Y03A3DEA_TH1. I know this ID will occur somewhere else in the database, but i'm just not sure where.
If anyone knows of any way that I can search the entire database for specific data, either using tools in MS SQL 2000, or 3rd party apps, i would greatly appreciate their help.
Thanks a lot,
Jack Smith

Hi,
Is it possible to copy a database from the existing database. I mean to say creating a duplicating database.
Note: I can do it by using "Generate SQL Server Script Wizard" or "Database Publishing Wizard" which saves a some filename.sql and later executing this will create another database by assigning some xyzdatabase name.
My main motive is copying a database in a single line script without using this lengthy sciprt.
Example
FirstDatabase (contains 10 tables 10 stored procedures)
SecondDatabase (also contains 10 tables 10 stored procedures)
If possible, can you write a script that attach a database from the C:MyTemporaryDatabase
Because this i need through programming Visual Basic using SQL Server. I want to create some temporary database.
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks.
Best Regards

I am giving the following statement outside the begin tran block in a stored procedure:
select * from table1 with (holdlock) where column1 = @colValue
I have the following two questions regarding above situation:
Being outside the begin tran block, will the select statement cause a lock to be held or it has to be within the begin tran block for the lock to be held?
Will the select statement hold a lock only on the row or rows matching the where clause, or it may lock a page or even the entire table in this situation?
Thanks
