Iam working on a portal where there is a search option. Here, we wanted to search four tables where each table is having three columns as below:
Table1(col1 ntext,col2 varchar,col3 ntext)
Table2(col1 ntext,col2 varchar,col3 ntext)
Table3(col1 ntext,col2 varchar,col3 ntext)
Table4(col1 ntext,col2 varchar,col3 ntext)
The problem here is as how do i search the above four tables on the respective three columns each of each table. Then I wanted to give out the result in a table format with respective data values in the columns EX:
Output table(S.No,Ti,Coli Ti.coli)
The rest i can do it to pull this information from UI and display it. I got stucked up here of searching four tables effectively and with performance ease. I am hoping that somebody would have already faced a similar search issue for their portals and would have used some code.
Any pointers on this is highly appreciated.
hi there,i have a textbox in my page and a button,when the button is clicked the application will search for the text written in the textbox in my database which is sql server, it works fine in my system but when i upload my website in the web it doesn't work correctly i mean that it dosent find all the matches, why this happens? is it possible that this problem occur because of the different fonts which is used in sql server and the font is used in my application? thanks for help
Hi,the Soundex search words that sounds similar.Does MS SQL Server has some function to make some intuitive search?For example, for search term database, it should return rows that contains: "database" word, but also rows that contains "Oracle", "MySQL", "MS SQL" etc. terms.
Does any one know of any good components I can buy in to sit on top of my SQL Server to provide the kind of search functionality that google has - 'Did you mean...,' nearset match etc. I have set up SQL Server Full Text but to build all the extra functionality will take some time and I think it will be more cost effective to buy a component in. If any one has used any could you let me know of you experinces please. CheersScott

I was wondering how exactly one can search the Active Directory with SQL Server 2000. There is all kind of stuff on the Internet about how to connect them and how useful it is to connect them together - plus how you can use Active Directory to query SQL Server, but I`ve never encountered any article where they explain how SQL Server can search the Active Directory. I`m thinking about how one has their user-database in Active Directory with all users in groups, but only uses groups in SQL Server. How exactly can SQL Server figure out how a user belongs to a group? Does Active Directory tell SQL Server about that when the user tries to access something from SQL Server, or does SQL Server already knows which group is accessing it as soon as the user authenticates in Active Directory?
I have french word like "Services d'organisation de minaires"..and i want to search word in SQL SERVER 2008. but the main problem is SQL SERVER give an Error because of string break.Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near 'organisation'.

The table the application will search on is a customer table that has a 10000 records in it, does this size of table casue a performance problem for sql server 2005 if I index the text field?

the application registers the student details to a course. each student gets a new registration no during registration.
the app should identify repeaters to a particular course by checking another table RegHistory, which stores the details of student registrations for the previous 5 years.
to determine whether a student is a repeater or not, we have to search for an exact match in RegHistory table (where the student name, guardian name and date of birth in both tables match with the corresponding entries in Registration table).
here is my question,
if there are 100,000 students registering in each academic year, we will have 500,000 records in RegHistory Table and 100,000 records in studReg table
if i start searching for a repeater, i guess i will have to loop through all records in studReg, for an exact match in RegHistory, which wil be a time consuming process.
is there any other options to search for repeaters ?

i'm making a web page for a clinic.it needs to be able to search for patients by first name, surname, date of birth and patient number.i'm using visual web developer and i have my database, my data source and GridView grid.i want 4 text boxes for my first name, surname etc. when u click enter on any of them i want to retrieve all their data and display it in the gridview.at the moment i have one text box on the web page and through the "Configure data source" option on the grid view i can retrieve the specified data but for only this one item, e.g. SELECT * FROM [Patients] WHERE ([DOB] = @DOB). if i add another text box to my web page, and don't do anything to it, the query wont run. if i add and "AND" statement to the query, e.g. SELECT * FROM [Patients] WHERE (([DOB] = @DOB) AND ([FirstName] = @FirstName)), again it won'r run or return and data. any ideas on what i can do or where i'm going wrong. thanks

What I wanted to do is see if the the records from tableA row 1 exist in tableB
As you can see they can appear in any order, partially or not at all.
What I propose to do is take tableA Name1 and see if it matches tableb row1 name 1 OR name 2 OR name 3 and if I find a match use a variable to assign the the value 1 (so I can then see if the match is full (score three) partial socre 1 and two or not at all (0)
Then I will need do the same for tableA row 2
Then goto row 2 of table a and start again.
Does this make sense? Are there beter ways of doing this.

I have a products table with product attributes in a second table, together they describe a full product. I have a product title, a list of providers, description text, and keywords. I would like to do a search across these fields, and so far my research has shown that the Full Text Search component of SQL Server is the way to go. However, I am not sure this will be possible based on what is installed on the hosted server, so I am wondering if there is a unique, cool way of doing this without Full Text Search?
