I need a select statement to retrieve what version of sql server is running and whether it is enterprise or standard.
I know I could just right click but I have hundreds of servers to go through so this should save alot of time.

I'm wondering if there is a single statement I can write to pull my data. Let's say my Order table has one field for userId and one field for supervisorId (among other fields) both of which are foreign keys into the Users table where their name, address, etc. are stored. What I'd like to do is to pull all the rows from Order and have a join that pulls the user name and supervisor name from the User table all in one go. Right now I pull all the Orders with just user name joined, and then go back over the objects to add the supervisor name as a separate query.
The reason I'd like to do this is to simplify the objects I'm passing to the GridView by doing a single fetch instead of multiples. I'm using SQL Server, .NET 2.0 and VS.NET 2005.

Above is the data string that I am trying to pull the information from. Here is the function I'm currently using:
cast(substring(c.itemname,charindex('Bill Statement - ',c.itemname)+18,10) as varchar)
...which gives me what i want most of the time, but beacuse the date is not equally formatted through out the database and the date can look like 5/4/2012 and using the above formula it will show up as 5/4/2012 -
So my question is how can i trim off the dash part when the data shows up like 5/4/2012 - ?
Ok I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age,sex,race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.
how do I get the variables in the cursor, set statement, to NOT update the temp table with the value of the variable ? I want it to pull a date, not the column name stored in the variable...

I am trying to use SQL to pull unique records from a large table. The table consists of people with in and out dates. Some people have duplicate entries with the same IN and OUT dates, others have duplicate IN dates but sometimes are missing an OUT date, and some don’t have an IN date but have an OUT date.
What I need to do is pull a report of all Unique Names with Unique IN and OUT dates (and not pull duplicate IN and OUT dates based on the Name).
I have tried 2 statements:

Both of these work great… until I the OUT date. Once it starts to pull the outdate, it also pulls all those who have a duplicate IN date but the OUT date is missing.
Example:
NameINOUT
John Smith1/1/20141/2/2014
John Smith1/1/2014(blank)
I am very new to SQL and I am pretty sure I am missing something very simple… Is there a statement that can filter to ensure no duplicates appear on the query?
I'd *like* to execute a sProc within another sProc, because this other one (let's call it dataProc) will provide me with results I need that are calculated based off execing other procs within that proc itself.
I'd like to use this data in a new sProc (we'll call it newProc), but I don't need NEARly all of the columns. The dataProc returns 1 row with 42 columns. I need about 4-5 of those for my newProc.
The dataProc does not have any output variables, and I do not want to change the signature, because several pages/apps use this existing dataProc.
My question:
Is there a way to INSERT INTO table EXEC dataProc
*Without* making a temp table that takes in every single column the dataProc puts out?

I have three tables EmpIDs,EmpRoles and LatestRoles. I need to write a select Query to get roles of all employees present in EmpIDs table by referring EmpRoles and LatestRoles.
Where I stuck : The condition is first look into table EmpRoles and if it has more than one entry for a particular Employee ID than only need to get the Role from LatestRoles other wise consider the role from EmpRoles .
Example:

So what I am trying to do is to have a simple textbox where the person enters a code.
Then I need to have that code in an SQL statement like: SELECT Participant_Code FROM Contacts WHERE (this is where im stuck, I need to have something like WHERE Participant_code = code (code is the textbox ID))
After this is done I need to keep this code from page to page, because I will need to add data from other textboxes to the database.

Everythink works fine, when I use 'sa' user account in serverConnStr.
But, when I change conn string to:

the sqlcesa30.dll cannot connect to SQL Server database.
In the sqlcesa30.log then I found following line:

The user 'test' is member of db_owner, db_datareader and public roles for the Demo database and in SQL Server Management Studio I'm able to login to the Demo database with using the 'test' users credentials and I'm able to run the select command on 'mytable'.
So, what's wrong? Why the sqlcesa30.dll process cannot login to the Demo database, and from another application with using the SAME connection string it works?

I am using an execute SQL Task item on the control flow to be used as input for the foreach loop container. I have a select statement but, based on other information provided before this is executed, additional 'and' information may need to be added onto the SQL Statement before execution. For example, the select statement may read:
select applicatonid, created, createdby
from application
where referred by = 'xxx'
But based on information obtained from an ini file, something like:
and referred date = '2008/05/28'
may need to be appended to the SQL statement. I have tried setting the SQL statement as:
select applicatonid, created, createdby
from application
where referred by = 'xxx'
+ @addlwhere
and defined the @addlwhere in the parameter mapping but it raises an error. Has anyone run across this type of need and how did you resolve it? Thanks!

Specifically, I have a table that has multiple records for a particular hostName where the name of the host is either a shortname (say "Larry") or a long name (say "Larry's").
I need to display only the long names (NOT THE SHORT NAME records with the similar hostName).

This is a s far as I can get but,
Now, I need to list all remaining table fields based on the Name with the longer length and this is where I run into trouble.
The output should read per below with the remaining table fields which I cannot seem to extract with nested select statement

I tried adding another GROUP BY by this gets me no where because I do not need to execute another aggregate in select statement. Maybe I need to use INNER JOIN

I am trying to write a query that will be able to select different segments of data based on spelling of the last name.
For example, in my database of name information, I need to select anyone whose last name starts with 'AAA' to 'EJJ'
then need to select anyone whose last name starts with 'EJK' to 'JAE' and so on...
I have tried using LIKE and some other methods with the > operator, but I can't get it to work. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to select data based on the alphanumeric characters this way?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. I wrote a select statement, I only want to see orders with max lastUpdatedOn date of 14 days and older. Now my results show dates with all orders of 14 days and older (which is OK), but all others are displayed in the "Uitgifte" column as "NULL". But those orders should not be displayed at all.

I have a stored procedure that ends with
Select columnname from tablename order by ordercolumn
We will call that "sp_foldersOfFile". It takes 1 parameter, a fileID (int) value.
The result when I execute this from within Management Studio is a single column of 1 to n rows. I want to use these values in another stored procedure like this:
Select @userCount = COUNT(*) from permissions where UserID = @userID and
(projectid = @projectID or projectid=0) and
clientid = @clientID and
folderpermissions in (dbo.sp_FoldersOfFile(@fileID))
The Stored Procedure compiles but it does not query the folderpermissions in the selected values from the sp_FoldersOfFile procedure. I'm sure it is a syntax issue.
