Select All Dates From SQL Datetime Field
Aug 3, 2007
I have a form that's filtering search results and porting to a gridview. The drop down is selecting from the date column of SQL, but i want it the default value to show all dates in the gridview. In a normal string field, you can just use "%", but a datetime field won't take this. What can i use to show all dates?

I am using Sql Server 2012. I have a table which has a field as Datetime (it is a table in Dynamics CRM 2011 so I have no control of the data type). Say this field is called BisStartDate. If I run this query in management studio.
select
BisStartDate, BisStartDateutc
from myTable
where _bisnumber=10375
I will get:
BisStartDate BisStartDateutc
2014-07-29 00:00:00.000 2014-07-29 05:00:00.000
*in CRM, datetime is saved in 2 fields, one is the current time, the other one is the utc time.
You can see the offset between the datetime and utc is 5 hours.
However when the same statement was running inside a SSIS package on the server, the result returned is:
BisStartDate BisStartDateutc
2014-07-28 23:00:00.0000000 2014-07-29 05:00:00.000
And if I do
datediff(MINUTE,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetimeutc,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetime)
I will get -5 if I run it in ManagementStudio and -6 is running on server package(running inside VisualStudio will be -5, same as running a query in ManagementStudio).
I think when the record was saved, “date” is 5 hours offset to UTC time but now the system use the current utc offset which is 6 hours. I just want to use the BisStartDate as it is. How do I let the SSIS turn off the conversion.
The same datatime is saved in another system then we compare them to check the data entry. Now because of this one hour difference, sometime the Day will be different.

I know there must be a way to do this....
I want to select only the date portion of a datetime field. the date normally shows as similar to '2004-01-01 09:39:52.000'
I need to return just '2004-01-01'. using convert and cast returns the dates as 'JAN 01 2004' - this won't sort correctly, so it is of no use. any suggestions?
thanks,
john

Hi there ;
This Problem is goin to make me crazy!
I've got a table with couple of fields, 2 of them are DateTime, in Sql Express 05 .
I used asp.net 2.0 to insert datetime values, directly, using sth like DateTime.Now.ToString() .
i use 2 selects as follows :
1)select * from X where Date1='8/9/2006 11:17:41 AM'
2)select * from X where Date2='8/9/2006 11:17:41 AM'
#1 is OK, but the second one returns a row with all columns set to NULL .
(X is the name of the table)
Thanks in advance

I am trying to pull results from an SQL Server DB into an dataset where a particular field (SMALLDATETIME) is within a particular date range. The code I was using worked fine when the database was in Access. I have made several changes already but am still getting 0 results returned when there is data that should be returned.
I was using in Access:
Dim StrSQL = "SELECT ID FROM myTable WHERE myDateField>=#" & startDate & "# AND myDateField<=#" & stopDate & "# ORDER BY ID"
I have changed this for SQL Server to:
Dim StrSQL = "SELECT ID FROM myTable WHERE myDateField>='01/01/2003 00:00:01' AND myDateField<='01/01/2004 23:59:59' ORDER BY ID"
But I am always returned 0 results even if the date range should return plenty of data. I have also tried using the BETWEEN structure with the same result.
Is there a particular format for the date I am comparing with?
Am I missing something else in my query?
The connection / permissions and everything else are correct as I can read and write data to the database in numerous other pages. It is just this date comparison that is not working.
Many thanks for any help or comments you can provide.

Hi,
I have rows with a datetime column which spans many years. I am wondering is there a more simple way to select those rows where the datetime column is in a particular year. For example...
where datetime_column.year = '2007'
I know i can use the 'between' sql etc...but am wondering if theres something more straightforward im not aware of.
Thanks..

I am trying to match records that are >= the current date. I have tried using:
SELECT DISTINCT name
FROM table
WHERE datefield >= DATEPART(month, GETDATE()) AND datefield >= DATEPART(day, GETDATE()) AND datefield >= DATEPART(year, GETDATE())
ORDER BY name
but this is not giving me the result that I am looking for. What is the best way to match a DateTime field type using the current date without the time?

Hello All,I've got a DATETIME field, and it includes hour:minutes:second data. I want to do selects where I can simply match on the month, day and year. For instance, something like this:SELECT * FROM QuizAttempts WHERE DateTimeTaken = '1/12/2006'And have it match anything that was taken that day, regardless of *when* it was taken. Any suggestions? Thanks! -Josh

How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.

I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.
What options do I have that will work?

I have a stored procedure to add a poeersons DOB to a table. The date is being stored as Dec 12 1980
Instead of as 12/12/1980
The table uses a datetime data type.
The data type of the date being passed into the stored procedure is also set to datetime. (@DOB datetime) Even though the value passed into the procedure is 12/12/1980 It saves the date as Dec 12 1980
What do I need to do to fix this?

Hello, I need to find the percentage of a a given contract start and end date for the year given. For example, the contract_start date is 05/08/2000 and the contract_end date is 04/30/2010, of course this will be 100% if you want to find the percentage for year 2008 but if you wanted to find the percentage for year 2010, then the percentage would be something like 42% (appr. 5 months) (b/c it would for year 2010, the contract would be from 01/01/2010 thru 04/30/2010)I need to find the percent from the beginning of the year, to the end.a few examples: start: 01/01/2007 end: 05/01/2007 if for year: 2007; this is 4 months @33.33% start: 05/01/ 2006 end: 06/01/2007 if for year: 2007, then 6 months @ 50% (01/01/2007 - 06/01/2007); but if it was for year 2006 then it would be 7 months @ 58% (05/01/2006 thru 12/31/2006) start: 01/01/2000 end: 03/01/2010 for year: 2008 then 12 months @ 100% Any help would be valued. I'm just getting into using sql server 2008 and the report builder 3.0 addon after a long time away from sql and I was wondering if the following was possible.I have a number of records with a start and end date along with a volume i.e.
Delivery Start; Delivery End; Volume
01/06/12; 05/06/12; 25,000
01/06/12; 02/06/12; 50,000
24/05/12; 26/10/12; 5,000
Essentially this means for each day between the two delivery dates the stated volume is delivered, what i need to try and do is to find the volume for each day between two user entered dates, giving a result along the lines of
Start Date Entered = 01/06/12
End Date Entered = 03/06/12
Date; Total Volume
01/06/12; 80,000
02/06/12; 80,000
03/06/12; 30,000
Is this actually doable?

Hello, this is my first post to these forums so... Hi.
I'm currently doing a select statement and I cannot figure out how to get it to do what I want it to.
I'm trying get the statement to show how much activity was done in each year in a separate field and I don't have any idea where to start to get this accomplished.
Here's the code:
select distinct client.Number as [ClientNumber], client.FirstName, client.LastName,
client.Address, client.City, client.State, client.Zip,
count(distinct [transaction].date) as VisitsWithinDateRange, client.LastVisit
from client
inner join [transaction] on client.number = [transaction].client
where
[transaction].date >= '01/01/1980'
and
[transaction].date <= '01/01/2008'
and
client.status like '%a%'
and
client.status not like '%n%'
and
client.status not like '%i%'
and
client.clienttype <> 'C'
group by client.number, client.Number, client.FirstName, client.LastName,
client.Address, client.City, client.State, client.Zip, client.LastVisit

Hello all,
This is the best suited forum I found that fits my problem. If there's a better one, please direct me to it.
I have an Access database that contains (for the purpose of my application) a lot of information (15,000+ records in one of the tables).
My application suffers from slow performance because of the size of the tables (this is because the data has to be compared to data on a Palm device).
I have done a lot of optimizations to the code, but I haven't found a way to implement the best optimization for my case: Getting row- and field-level modification dates.
That way I can only compare relevant data and not the whole database.
For example, I wish there was a way to filter out rows from a table that were modified before January 1st, 2007.
Another example: Filter out rows that their Address column was modified in the last two weeks.
I know that a partial solution will be to implement this on my own: adding a Modified column to all my tables.
But, as I said, this is only a partial solution because it saves only the row's modification date, and not for each of the fields. Plus, this is a really ugly solution, having this column standing out everywhere.
Is there a chance this is implemented inside Access (or SQL server, for that matter)?
The closest I came was finding out that there's a field in msysobjects that specifies when a table was last modified. But not a row or a field in a row.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
P.S. The weird thing is that this "modified" bit that I'm looking for is implemented on Palm devices and is very easy to use... Seems ironic that there won't be a simple way to do this on a PC.
P.P.S. I guess row- and field-level modification dates are the same... of course, Modified(row) = MAX(Modified(field1), Modified(field2), ...)

FROM [FutureSoft].[dbo].[zCIFRecord]

I get error:

I can use this same query on an exactly same other field that contains dates in the past. Is there some kind of limitation on the dates as far as them being in the future or past?

How would I go about selecting a datetime field for a date range?
e.g.
$start_date = 04/11/2007
$end_date = $05/11/2007
I would have thought it would be something like this:
SELECT * FROM order_details BETWEEN $start_date AND $end_date
BUt I cannot get it to work in MS SQL? Would it be anything to do with the data stored such as 5/11/2007 12:00:00 AM

OUr end-users will be accessing data through a SQL view through third party applications. Ex. Access, Excel, Crystal Reports. All the date fields need to only have 'Data' XX/XX/XXXX, not datetime. Since SQL Server only stores the data as datetime, I convert the data in the proper format in the Create view statement. The only problem is that the data is now a text (varchar(10) field in which sorting through these third party applications causes issues.
Ex. 01/05/2000 comes before 02/02/1999 because it sorts on the first characters. Is there a way in SQL to store the data as a Date only or any other suggestions.
Thanks for your help.
