Hi, I got a problem. I installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 version. And I created a Compact database. I created an connection in SSMSE to connect the database and opened a query form. then, i run the following sql:
Select * from Table1
It returned 3 records to me. After that, I used program to insert record into this table. Then i ran this sql again, it still show me 3 records. I closed the query form, and re-created a new query form, then run the sql, it returned 4 records to me.
Why? It's very strange and difficult to operate, right? Is there anyone know how to make the SSMSE to return whole records without any close query form and re-create query form operation?

Part of data will get into it by hand, and part will be replicated from internal system.Some of us are for creating two separate databases, since there are two separate datasources. One, automatic, will change very little over time and requires almost no maintenance. Other datasource will be manual input. Tables and procedures related to this part will change over time.Some of us are for creating single database, since it will serve one web site. More important this group is concerned about performance issues since almost every select will require join between tables that would be stored in two separate databases. Do these issues exist? Can you share some insights, comments, links about this?

I have several database files, all in the same directory. I want to write SQL statements that access two databases at once. For example, if only one database would be involved, I would write:
SELECT Test_Source_ID_column, Data_column INTO Test_Destination_table FROM Test_Sources_table The above query copies two columns (Test_Source_ID_column and Data_column) from Test_Sources_table into a brand new table called Test_Destination_table. Now the above query is fine for both the old and new tables being in the same database. But what if Test_Sources_table is in file Old.dbf and I want the new table Test_Destination_table to be in New.dbf? Both Old.dbf and New.dbf are in the same directory. Therefore, there is no security issue about using ......etcpasswords. I should therefore be able to use relative paths. So, I also want to know how I can do that select on two databases in the same directory without typing long, long paths. Is there a way to do queries that access multiple database files (all database files being in the exact same directory) AND use relative paths or no paths (and certainly not type a full path)? NOTE 1: I'm using SQLEXPRESS, therefore do not have the SQL Server 2005 tools. I have Visual Studio 2005 Developer Edition with its tools. NOTE 2: One table is accessed through ODBC. The other table is accessed through SQLEXPRESS.
I have set up a 'Parameters' table that solely stores all pre-assigned selection values for a webform. I customized a stored query to Select the values from the Parameters table. I set up the webform. The result is that the form1.apsx automatically populates each DropDownList task with the pre-assigned values from the 'Parameters' table (for example, the stored values in the 'Parameters' table 'Home', 'Business', and 'Other' populate the drop down list for 'Type'). The programming to move the selected data from form1.aspx to a new table in the SQL database perplexes me. If possible, I would like to use the form1.aspx to Postback (or Insert) the "selected" data to a *new* column in a *new* table (such as writing the data to the 'CustomerType' column in the 'Customers' table; I clearly do not want to write back to the 'Parameters' table). Any help to get over this hurdle would be deeply appreciated.

Hello.Lets say that there is a table with N rows. now, i want to display the table's data on a web page. one way is to select the whole table and add each row's data to the webpage (something like SELECT * FROM TABLE1).going this way will create a huge page. i want to speared the results over multiple pages - excatly as this forum spread each forum messages over multiple pages. for this purpose, i need to query Y rows each time, for example, if my table has 20 rows, and say that i want that each page will display 5 rows, then i need to query 5 rows each time. the first 5 rows for the first page, the next 5 rows for the second page and so on... is there any way to achieve it using an SQL query? the simplest way is to select the whole table and manaually filter the results. but this way will become slow as the table grows with data... and i dont want to select rows which i wont display anyway. any suggestions? I have ViewA that sums up 4 fields from one table. I then have ViewB that uses ViewA to calculate the results. Now I do this with 5 different tables and then link them all to get my final results. Each View has a date range (begin / end) that I need to pass from a Web form.
How should I go about doing this? Should I create a temporary table to hold the begin / end dates to use in the sub Views? Or something else? I am at a lost on how to go about this and need some direction and syntax?

I have about 1700 records in a datatable titled "AISC_Shapes_Table" with 49 columns. What I would like to do is allow the user of my VB application to 'create' a custom query (i.e. advanced search). For now, I'll just discuss two columns; The Section Label titled "AISC_MANUAL_LABEL" and the Weight column "W". The data appears in the following manner:

I have a listbox which users can select MULTIPLE "Manual Labels" or shapes. They then select a property (W for weight, in this case) and a limitation (greater than a value, less than a value, or between two values). From all this, I create a custom Query string or filter to apply to my BindingSource.Filter method. However I have to use the % wildcard to deal with exceptions. If the user only wants W shapes, I use "...LIKE 'W%'" and "...NOT LIKE 'WT%" to be sure to select ONLY W shapes and no WT's. The problems arises, however, when the user wants multiple shapes in general. If I want to select all the "AISC_MANUAL_LABEL" values with W <= 40, I can't do it. An example of a statement I tried to use to select WT% Labels and MT% labels with weight (W)<=100 is:

This query works fine for obtaining the Criminal table data, but once i've include CrimeCommitted.Country in the SELECT statement, the data returned contained all the crimes committed by each criminal (i just need the latest crime).
The query doesn't work when another table, other than Criminal, is selected. How can i obtain the columns in the CrimeCommitted table in this query?

I'm trying to create a database that takes specific information from a number of databases on different servers to make some reporting that we have much easier.
I'm pretty new to SQL so I'm not sure of the best way to proceed. I read an article that suggested I use the OPENROWSET command. The problem is, the version of SQL that came with one of the programmes we use is limited and will not allow you to turn on the allow "Ad Hoc distributed Queries" so the SLQ statement will not execute.
I'm confused why it won't let me to connect through ODBC as I've created a web page that selects data from this database with no problems!
Here is the SQL statement that I've written to make sure it is the correct one (on the msdn library page it said that this was the ODBC connection):

I have 7 source databases and one target database, all using the same structure. The structure is made of 10 tables, with foreign key constraints.
I need to merge the source databases into the target (which won't have any data before that process, but will already have the correct schema), and to keep the relationships between the records.
I know how to iterate over the source databases (with SMO foreach), but I'd like to know if someone can advise the best copy method for that context in SSIS ? (I don't want to keep the primary keys, but I need to keep the relationships...)

I am trying to restore multiple .bak backup SQL database files onto a new server. However, I have found that it will not allow me to restore multiple databases at once. Is there a way to do this so that I do not have to manually upload one at a time? I tried adding all the .bak files at once to the backup device window but it only did the first one listed. It would be so much easier to restore them all at once so that I do not have to continue this manual process. I am restoring them via device.
Hello. I a SP with 2 select statements. If the first returns no results it does the second select. This works fine if I test it on the sql server. But when I try it in a webform using a sqldatasource it only returns a result if the first Select returns rows. If not It is an empty set (where I know it should not be. For example, say I have 3 dropdownlists on my webpage as below, List 1, Cities, London, Rome, Barcelona etc List 2, Restaurants by Type, Italian, chinese, Indian etc List 3, Number of tables/ seats 10-20, 20- 40, 50 -100 I want someone to be able to search for a restaurant by selecting an item from each dropdownlist such as, "Barcelona" "Italian" "50-100" This search query would return all the Italian restaurants in Barcelona with 50-100 tables/seats. I would also like the select query to work even if one of the dropdownlists items is not selected. Hope somebody can clear this up? Also would sql injection attacks be a threat by doing it this way? My question is can you JOIN multiple tables in an SQL Statement from multiple databases. Ie, In the Management program I have a database called 'Convention' and another one called 'Services', inside the two databases there are many tables.
