I have a SQL 7.0 backend for a new DB of mine. This is the first time I have developed a SQL backend from scratch, so the problem may be my design. The problem may lie with my Access frontend (I have tried both 97 and 2k), but I am inclined to think not considering the behavior. On only one table (the master table no less), I cannot add records during business hours. I can add records to other tables and edit records on this table though. This troublesome table has a field indexed as unique that is not the PK (don't know if that has any bearing, but it is the only table in this DB that has that property). The adding records problem appears to be network traffic related because sometimes records can be added at lunchtime and definitely after hours. I currently only have 3 connected users. I had these problems with only one connected user, so the DB itself is not being strained by traffic. I often have more traffic on the DB after hours to avoid the problems. I have worked on the connection and network traffic angle for awhile, when I stumbled upon the bizarre part. If I add a record via a stored procedure and run this SP on the SQL query analyzer on the server (no network is involved) it is still slow to add the record (30 minutes or more). Needless to say this would equate to an failure on the front end. The same query will run in 0-3 seconds after hours! Does anyone have any clue how this could happen? I am stumped. I do have a budget for a consultant if I need one, but I need to find someone who has a chance to fix this problem. If you don't know the answer but can refer someone in the DFW area, I am in your debt.
How do I select data from another database name (in the same SQL SERVER LOCATION) and its child table? SELECT user_id FROM [10.10.20.3].CC_host.usr_table Where(email LIKE N'%@%' And email LIKE N'%usa.com') Order By user_id
I need to be able to find certain data as the user has submitted that data twice and delete one record, except that have hundreds of tables and don't know the table where she would have submitted the data, but I have some other key info that I can start with.
My question is,how do i select a record from the database if I don't know the table it comes from?
hello i have a problem and i dont know if it can fixed or not i'm using asp.net 2 and sqlserver 2005 i have a table named questions in the database and that table has 5 columns questionid,question,answer1,answer2,answer3 every questions has 3 answers 1 right and the other 2 are wrong what i want to do is select 10 random questions and their right and wrong answers show in my asp.net page as application the answers will be in radio buttons so is that can be done or it's not possible.thanks all
I encontered a problem which did not allow me to select any thing from the temparary tables of the tempdb database. (e.g one of the temparary tables is #239E4DCF), why is that and how can we solve this problem? As I urgently need to look at this tempdb database, it is full. I am looking forward to hearing from you and thanks a lot in advance for your help.
I am totally new to this but have access to a SQL Server (version 6.5) and am looking at the processes used on it to learn. It is being used as a reporting server and have run into a wierd problem:
We discovered that it did not have any service packs at all on it so we applied SP4 to it (Microsoft SQL Server 6.50 - 6.50.281 (Intel X86) ).
Now what took a few minutes takes **hours** to do. In particular, a particular SELECT INTO statement that has a few joins in the WHERE clause is the problem. I changed the code from the SELECT INTO and created the table and used an INSERT...INTO statement. This did not help.
This process has ran successfully on the SQL Server without any service packes for over two years and now with the SP4 applied, it takes forever.
The SQL statement that is used has also been working fine for the same amount of time. One thing that I notice with it is that the join syntax uses *= instead of the more current way (LEFT OUTER JOIN). We are also clearing the logs before running the statement to make sure the space is available. This is run against a header table with around 600,000 rows and a detail table with approx 1,500,000 rows.
I have data coming from a telephony system that keeps track of when anemployee makes a phone call to conduct a survey and which project numberis being billed for the time the employee spends on that phone call in aMS SQL Server 2000 database (which I don't own). The data is being returned to me in a view (see DDL for w_HR_Call_Logbelow). I link to this view in MS access through ODBC to create alinked table. I have my own view in Access that converts the integernumbers for start and end date to Date/Time and inserts some otherinformation i need. This data is eventually going to be compared with data from someelectronic timesheets for purposes of comparing entered hours vs hoursactually spent on the telephone, and the people that will be viewing thedata need the total time on the telephone as wall as that total brokendown by day/evening and weekend. Getting weekend durations is easyenough (see SQL for qryTelephonyData below), but I was wondering ifanyone knew of efficient set-based methods for doing a day/eveningbreakdown of some duration given a start date and end date (with theday/evening boundary being 17:59:59)? My impression is that to do thiscorrectly (i.e., handle employees working in different time zones, adjusting for DST, and figuring out what the boundary is for switchingfrom evening back to day) will require procedural code (probably inVisual Basic or VBA).However, if there are set-based algorithms that can accomplish it inSQL, I'd like to explore those, as well. Can anyone give any pointers?Thanks.--DDL for view in MS SQL 2000 database:CREATE VIEW dbo.w_HR_Call_LogASSELECT TOP 100 PERCENT dbo.TRCUsers.WinsID, dbo.users.username ASInitials, dbo.billing.startdate, dbo.billing.startdate +dbo.billing.duration AS EndDate,dbo.billing.duration, dbo.projects.name ASPrjName, dbo.w_GetCallTrackProject6ID(dbo.projects.descript ion) AS ProjID6,dbo.w_GetCallTrackProject10ID(dbo.projects.descrip tion) AS ProjID10,dbo.billing.interactionidFROM dbo.projects INNER JOINdbo.projectsphone INNER JOINdbo.users INNER JOINdbo.TRCUsers ON dbo.users.userid =dbo.TRCUsers.UserID INNER JOINdbo.billing ON dbo.users.userid =dbo.billing.userid ON dbo.projectsphone.projectid =dbo.billing.projectid ONdbo.projects.projectid = dbo.projectsphone.projectidWHERE (dbo.billing.userid 0)ORDER BY dbo.billing.startdateI don't have acess to the tables, but the fields in the view comethrough as the following data types:WinsID - varchar(10)Initials - varchar(30)startdate - long integer (seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00)enddate - long integer (seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00)duration - long integer (enddate - startdate)ProjID10 - varchar(15)interactionid - varchar(255) (the identifier for this phone call)MS Access SQL statement for qryTelephonyData (based on the view,w_HR_Call_Log):SELECT dbo_w_HR_Call_Log.WinsID, dbo_w_HR_Call_Log.ProjID10,FORMAT(CDATE(DATEADD('s',startdate-(5*60*60),'01-01-197000:00:00')),"yyyy-mm-dd") AS HoursDate,CDATE(DATEADD('s',startdate-(5*60*60),'01-01-1970 00:00:00')) ASStartDT,CDATE(DATEADD('s',enddate-(5*60*60),'01-01-1970 00:00:00')) AS EndDT,DatePart('w',[StartDT]) AS StartDTDayOfWeek, Duration,IIf(StartDTDayOfWeek=1 Or StartDTDayOfWeek=7,Duration,0) ASWeekendSeconds,FROM dbo_w_HR_Call_LogWHERE WinsID<>'0'
Database size increased from 600GB to 1000 GB in 4 hours. There was no process running. I am not able to understand why would database size increase in 4 hours.
Dear All I need to cerate a SP that SELECTS all the records from a table WHERE the first letter of each records starts with 'A' or 'B' or 'C' and so on. The letter is passed via a parameter from a aspx web page, I was wondering that someone can help me in the what TSQL to use I am not looking for a solution just a poin in the right direction. Can you help.
I am trying to add the hours between each time block stored in a database.
In this database a user enters the begin time and the end time. For example the course MATH0001 would start at 8am and end at 10am. Therefore the user would enter 0810 in the start field and 1000 in the end field. The course MATH0001 doesn't run the entire semester it may only run from 8th Jan - 15th March and the course is scheduled in a room called GR4. Now because a course can be scheduled modularly, one room could have several courses scheduled in this manner.
The problem: I need to find out how many hours GR4 is used but it contains the following courses
A day only has 13 hours. Therefore the total hours spent in GR4 should be 12 hours. This is calculated by adding the hours between 8am and 5pm = 9 hours and 5pm an 8pm = 3 hours. I would not include 9am to 1pm because it is a subset of the 8am to 5pm slot.
Now, how to accomplish this but below is the code that i have thus far:
I forgot to mention that this code was to just test my 'final code' results and it outputs the table shown above. Anyway for testing purposes I have limited the search to the room GR4 and the day Tuesdays.
Code: select DISTINCT ssrmeet_room_code, ssrmeet_start_date, ssrmeet_end_date, ssrmeet_crn, ssrmeet_begin_time, ssrmeet_end_time, (((CAST(M.SSRMEET_END_TIME AS INT))-(CAST(M.SSRMEET_BEGIN_TIME AS INT)))+10)/100 As HoursPerClass,
I need only the count of databases that last fullbackup was older then 24 hours or null. and status is online. I have tried
SELECT Count(DISTINCT msdb.dbo.backupset.database_name) From msdb.dbo.backupset where datediff(day,backup_finish_date,GETDATE()) > 1 -- or is null and Database_Name not in ('tempdb','ReportServerTempDB','AdventureWorksDW','AdventureWorks') --online also group by Database_name, backup_finish_date
Tried using where max(backup_finish_date) < datediff(day,backup_finish_date,GETDATE()) .But get the aggregate in where clause error. get a count of databases with backups older than 24 hours not including the samples, report service, and tempdb. I would also want to put status is online but havent gotten the above to work so havent tried to add that yet.
I have to disable newly implemented database encryption. It's a necessity unfortunately. Can I do this during production hours without much of a hit? I know I have to restart the instance after it's done. Can I expect performance impacts or other issues?
SELECT Top 10 Name, Contact AS DCC, DateAdded AS DateTimeFROM NameTaORDER BY DateAdded DESC I'm trying to right a sql statement for a gridview, I want to see the last ten records added to the to the database. As you know each day someone could add one or two records, how can I write it show the last 10 records entered.
Hi, I already submitted this type of question before and i receive reply. But unfortunately i found out errors when performing on my system.
My problem regarding to this one:
Suppose i have two databases with same tables with different records and I would like to copy the records from one database to another data and vice-versa. So that both the tables contains same number of records inside the tables.
Example:
Database1 (EmployeeTable) contains 6 records. Database2 (EmployeeTable) contains 10 records.
It should copy only those records which is not present in each other database. No duplicate records.
Before i was recommend to use Primary key, if it is not present use index.
I have an unusual problem. I am using VB.Net 2003 and sqlexpress using .NET dataset to insert records into an timecards table. After inserting several records I tried a 'Select * from timecards' and the inserted records where not selected. if I 'select * from timecards order by employee' ( or any other field) the inserted records are selected! The table was created by an Access Upsize command.

I have a table, productTable, that contains a ProductID column, a bunch of attribute columns like manufacturer etc, and a GroupID. Many different productIDs can share the same GroupID which means that they are basically the same product with one different attribute such as color. What I'm trying to do is select all the products in the TOP N GroupIDs. I'm using this to paginate my query results. I tried this which does not work:
SELECT DISTINCT TOP 10 * FROM productTable WHERE GroupID NOT IN (SELECT DISTINCT TOP 10 GroupID FROM productTable ORDER BY GroupID) ORDER BY GroupID
This returns the TOP 10 rows, but I would like all the ProductIDs for the TOP 10 GroupIDs
I can't get my head around this:I want to select all IDs from table A that do not have a related record intable B according to some condition:Table A contains, say, Parents and table B contains Children. I want toselect all Parents that have no children called "Sally" (this is a noddyexample, reminds me of being at Uni again :) ).Any ideas? Thanks
Hello,I have two tables, Articles and Comments, with the following columns:Articles - [ArticleId] (PK), [ArticleTitle], [ArticleText], [ArticlePubDate]Comments - [CommentId] (PK), [ArticleId] (FK), [CommentTitle], [CommentText]I need to display on a web page the articles published during the last week and their comments. What I need is:1. Get Articles (DONE) 2. Get Comments for each ArticleThe solution I see are:1. Create a Stored procedure that somehow outputs 2 tables: Articles and Comments associated with those articles2. Create 2 Stored procedures: The first one outputs the articles. The second output all comments given an article ID In this case, while the data is being displayed on the page it will load the comments for each article. The problem is that I will have many round trips to the server.I know how to use (2) but this would give me many round trips to the database.Could someone help me out with this? Thanks,Miguel
