I know i can use the 'between' sql etc...but am wondering if theres something more straightforward im not aware of.

Thanks..

Transact SQL :: Get Only Newly Inserted Rows By Datetime Column?

TableA;

 Name            Phone
1                   2014-06-17 17:28:21.190

3,4 are the rows i have inserted now , you can see by date, likewise i have 100,000 rows(old and new combination) and now the data from excel to TableA can be imported/exported daily , hourly, weekly basis.

Now i want to find out only the rows which are imported to tableA today, or hours back, or yesterday .....

 the reason is ,

Step1:get data from excel and import to tableA( this is a manual Step) and i know when the data is inserted  with exact date and time.

Step2: get newly inserted rows from TableA and pass them as Parameters in Stored Procedure.( i may run step 2 after 1 hour, or after  1 day or after 1 week ,but i want only rows that are inserted )

I tried with using where Datecreated, but did work.

Is there a better way?

DirectoryTypeID (int)
Region ID (int)

I need to run a query where I could get the region ID, then, in the second column, I¡¦d get all distinct directory types within that region. For example, if I run the query:

subRegionAreaID directoryTypeID
--------------- ---------------
3 1
3 2
3 3

If need these results to be:

Is this possible?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Select Only Rows With Alphabetical Character In Column?

Apr 17, 2014

i am working on a small project, that I have found that someone is storing a float as a varchar(). But there are also some actual words in the same column.

I am trying to determine how I can select only the rows with alphabetical characters in that column.

Some of the data is:

1.5008e+015
1.54453e+015
1.51922e+015
1.51922e+015
1.52243e+015

but there is a mix of alphabetical characters in there as well.

1.51922e+015
1.53122e+015
FMCIT
ABCNP
FMCPNG
1.62073e+015
1.6127e+015

I want to be able to select the rows with only the alphabetical characters. There is a huge mix, and I am assuming that every first letter is one of the 26 alphabetical character used. How can I write a query to use a REGEX to select any and all rows that cannot be CAST as a Float? I have nill to no experience using REGEX.

Select Statement That Will Output Related Rows With Different Column Data Per Row?

Apr 27, 2008

Is there a way to build a select statement that will output related rows with different column data per row? I want to return something like:

rowtype| ID | value
A | 123 | alpha
B | 123 | beta
C | 123 | delta
A | 124 | some val
B | 124 | some val 2
C | 124 | some val 3
etc...

where for each ID, I have 3 rows that are associated with it and with different corresponding values.

I'm thinking that I will have to build a temp table/cursor that will get all the ID data and then loop through it to insert each rowtype data into another temp table.

i.e. each ID iteration will do something like:
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('A', 123, 'alpha')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('B', 123, 'beta')
insert into #someTempTable (rowtype, ID, value) values ('C', 123, 'delta')
etc..

After my loop, I will just do a select * from #someTempTable

Is there a better, more elegant way instead of using two temp tables? I am using MSSQL 2005

Server configuration:
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition with SP3a

Any ideas why this is taking so long? Can I find out what it's doing? Is there anything I can do to make it go faster?

Adding A BIT Column - 100+ Hours!

Jul 7, 2004

I previously posted about a problem where I added a non-NULL DEFAULT 0 bit column to a table with 80 million records. It was taking a LONG time and we needed that database up fast. It ended up taking a total of 17 hours.

Now my coworker added the same non-NULL DEFAULT 0 bit column to another table on another important server. But this table has more like 400 million rows. It's been running for 100+ hours and is still going. We were hoping it would scale linearly (5*80 million records would hopefully take 5*17 hours) but that isn't happening. I have no idea how much longer it will take. I really need this to be done. I'm tempted to cancel but that will incur a potentially massive rollback, right? Any guestimate on how large that would be?

Any ideas?

DataTable dt1 = new DataTable();
dt1.Columns.Add("no",typeof(System.Int16));

Service Pack Install Causes Insert...into Or Select Into To Take Hours

Jan 3, 2000

Hi!

I am totally new to this but have access to a SQL Server (version 6.5) and am looking at the processes used on it to learn. It is being used as a reporting server and have run into a wierd problem:

We discovered that it did not have any service packs at all on it so we applied SP4 to it (Microsoft SQL Server 6.50 - 6.50.281 (Intel X86) ).

Now what took a few minutes takes **hours** to do. In particular, a particular SELECT INTO statement that has a few joins in the WHERE clause is the problem. I changed the code from the SELECT INTO and created the table and used an INSERT...INTO statement. This did not help.

This process has ran successfully on the SQL Server without any service packes for over two years and now with the SP4 applied, it takes forever.

The SQL statement that is used has also been working fine for the same amount of time. One thing that I notice with it is that the join syntax uses *= instead of the more current way (LEFT OUTER JOIN). We are also clearing the logs before running the statement to make sure the space is available. This is run against a header table with around 600,000 rows and a detail table with approx 1,500,000 rows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Scott

Breaking Down Total Hours Worked Into Day And Evening Hours

Sep 21, 2006

I have data coming from a telephony system that keeps track of when anemployee makes a phone call to conduct a survey and which project numberis being billed for the time the employee spends on that phone call in aMS SQL Server 2000 database (which I don't own). The data is being returned to me in a view (see DDL for w_HR_Call_Logbelow). I link to this view in MS access through ODBC to create alinked table. I have my own view in Access that converts the integernumbers for start and end date to Date/Time and inserts some otherinformation i need. This data is eventually going to be compared with data from someelectronic timesheets for purposes of comparing entered hours vs hoursactually spent on the telephone, and the people that will be viewing thedata need the total time on the telephone as wall as that total brokendown by day/evening and weekend. Getting weekend durations is easyenough (see SQL for qryTelephonyData below), but I was wondering ifanyone knew of efficient set-based methods for doing a day/eveningbreakdown of some duration given a start date and end date (with theday/evening boundary being 17:59:59)? My impression is that to do thiscorrectly (i.e., handle employees working in different time zones, adjusting for DST, and figuring out what the boundary is for switchingfrom evening back to day) will require procedural code (probably inVisual Basic or VBA).However, if there are set-based algorithms that can accomplish it inSQL, I'd like to explore those, as well.
