Hi, Iam using SqlBulkCopy to copy data of all the tables from one database to another database. SqlBulkCopy runs just fine but it throws exception for one of the tables which is having computed column.
Next For one of the tables iam getting the following error The column "Col4" cannot be modified because it is either a computed column or is the result of a UNION operator
Since iam fetching table names at runtime its not possible to use columnMappings.
It works in a straight select query, but when I put it in the formula of the table design window, I get an error "Error validating the formula for column 'test_fci'"
I don't know if it's relevant but repl_value is itself a computed column with the formula:
(repl_value_e_g + repl_value_aux)
Is it possible to use the system functions in a computed column? If not, how would I pass those values into a udf and use it for the formula?
I have a table with 3 computed columns, the first two reference a function for there value. The last computed column should be total of the other computed columns, however when trying to write the formula for this column SQL Server rejects it.
Am i correct in thinking it is not possible to reference other computed columns in a computed column's forumla.
My current work around is to call the functions again that the other computed columns use to generate the total, though this seems to me like a performance issue.

I have an SQL Select statement that I need to add a column to called SalePrice, the SalePrice column needs to be calculated by adding together the values of 12 columns, then multiplying that value by the value in a another column to calculate margin. In a website I'm working on I need to be able to put all of the user tables in a database in a dropdownlist.
Another dropdownlist then will autopopulate itself with the names of all the columns from the table selected in the first dropdownlist.
So, what I need to know is: is there a sql statement that can return this type of information?
Example:
Table Names in Database: Customers, Suppliers
Columns in Customers Table: Name, Phone, Email, Address
I click on the word "Customers" in the first dropdownlist.
I then see the words "Name", "Phone", "Email", "Address" in the second dropdownlist.
I'm sure you all know this (but I'll say it anyways): I could hardcode this stuff in my code behind file, but that would be really annoying and if the table structure changes I would have to revise my code on the webpage. So any ideas on how to do this the right way would be really cool.
I have a quick question on SQL Server. Lets say I have table Order which has column names OrderId, CustomerName, OrderDate and NumberofItems. To select the OrderID values from the table I say Select OrderId from Order. But in the select if I want the column name to be variable how do I do it. I tried the following code through a stored procedure.
The code above gave me the string "OrderID" as many times as there were rows in the table but I could never get the actuall values in the OrderId column. Can you please send me some ideas or code where I can get values from the column names and at the same time change the column name dynamically.
I'm puzzled as to how to express what I want in a stored procedure. Assume two columns, Surname and GivenName. The surname might be missing. When I originally wrote this app in Access, I used the following expression:

I've looked at the syntax for CASE but I can't figure out exactly how to say what I intend, particularly the AS Agent column aliasing.

I do a SELECT * from table command in an ASP page to build a text fileout on our server, but the export is not to allow a field name rows ofrecords. I want to add a custom column in a select statement that has a value to true or false based on other criteria.
SELECT [ID], [Name], [Description], [EmpID], [Employed] FROM [Employees]
Now, in the above example there is no [Employed] Column in my table but I want it to show true or false based on whether or not [EmpID] equals a certain value.
The SQL computed is complex enough that I can't see a way to make it a parameterized query. The obvious approach seems to be to compute the SQL in a CONTROL FLOW SCRIPT TASK and then use it to load a variable to set the VARIABLE SOURCE of a CONTROL FLOW EXECUTE SQL TASK.
I see that I can return a resultset to a variable.
But getting the rows of the results into a dataflow is not obvious. I have heard mentione that a Derived Column can do this. I can see using a dummy SCRIPT COMPONENT as DATA SOURCE with nothing in it to then drop into DERIVED COLUMN. But when setting up DERIVED COLUMN I don't see how to pull the columns out of the RESULTSET variable.
If it makes a difference I think the columns of the resultset will always be the same in this scenario.
Maybe this is totally the wrong approach? Any clues would be appreciated.

i have to use a datetime field in all the tables in a database as a updated timestamp. i.e. : whenever an update happens to a row in a table, this column called LASTUPDATED has to be updated with current date time.Is there any way to implement this without using the trigger ? can i use COMPUTED column to acheive this ?
the table has many duplicate entries, where COL2 is the primary key and unique, but its the duplicate COL1 entries that have to be removed.
I was hoping a simple "delete from table where COL1 not in (select COL1, min(COL2) from TABLE group by COL1)"
would do the trick, but obviously in returning two columns from the subselect this won't work. Can I hide the COL2 output from the query that will be put in the subselect?

I have a table in the DB created as [ProductSales]
Here's what works for me:
insert into [ProductSales](Product, Sales) Select convert(varchar(20), "[Product].[Product Hierarchy].[level 03].[Member_CAPTION]") as 'Product' , convert(decimal(18,2), [Measures].[Data]) as 'Sales' From #temp
But in reality the product level is not always on level 03, I want to define a parameter @Product and pass it to the select list.
Here's what I tried to do:
