Selected Listbox Items Into Database
May 9, 2007
How can i get ALL the selected items into the database? this loop only accepts one item. I have tried with a "clear" action, does not work....
protected void Button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Page.IsValid)
{
// Define data objects
SqlConnection conn;
SqlCommand comm;
// Open the connection
string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
// Initialize connection
conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
// Create command
comm = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO TestTabel (TestNavn) VALUES (@TestNavn)",conn);
// Add command parameters
foreach (ListItem item in TestListBox.Items)
{
if (item.Selected)
{
comm.Parameters.Add("@TestNavn", System.Data.SqlDbType.NVarChar);
comm.Parameters["@TestNavn"].Value = Item.Text;
}
}
// Enclose database code in Try-Catch-Finally
try
{
// Open the connection
conn.Open();
// Execute the command
comm.ExecuteNonQuery();
// Reload page if the query executed successfully
Response.Redirect("Default.aspx");
}
catch(Exception Arg)
{
Response.Write(Arg.Message);
// Display error message
Label1.Text = "Error !";
}
finally
{
// Close the connection
conn.Close();
}
}
}

Hi. With VWD i've produced the following code.<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:50469ConnectionString %>"SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [ibs] WHERE ([liedID] = @liedID)"><SelectParameters><asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ListBox1" Name="liedID" PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int16" />But the query is only returning one row of the table. Even when multiple values were selected in the ListBox1. Could someone tell me how to do?Thanks, Kin Wei.

I have seen some information on this but have not understood fully the answers. I am fairly new to this and have spent the afternoon trying to work on this and although I have leant some really cool things I am no nearer. How do I get selected values from a LIstbox into a SQL statement using the IN command
First I loop through a List box control to get the multi selected values: Dim li As ListItemFor Each li In lbPClass.Items If li.Selected = True Then strPC += li.Value & ", " End IfNextLabel5.Text = strPC The result in the lable looks something like: 100, 101, 102 , I get rid of the trailing blank and commar with:Label6.Text = Left(Label5.Text, Trim(Len(Label5.Text) - 2)) I have created a parameter called @PROPCLASS that will use the values from the selected values in the listbox in a SQL query using an IN statement: Cmd.Parameters.Add(New OleDbParameter("@PROPCLASS", Label6.Text)) strSQL = "SELECT * FROM web_transfer WHERE ( PROP_CLASS IN (@PROPCLASS)) AND (ACRES >= @lowSize)AND (ACRES < @HighSize) AND (YEAR = @lowYear)AND (SALE_PRICE > @lowPrice) AND (SALE_PRICE < @highPrice) "
It is really the first bit of the WHERE clause I am interested in. The sql statement works if I either type in the actual values IN( 100, 101,102) or if I select only one value in the list box. If I select two then the sql statement does not work.
My question is: How do I get the values selected in the List box into my SQL statement Thank you in advance, s

I have designed a report that allows the user to select multiple values to be passed to SSRS. When I deploy and run the report from Report Manager I can select 1 to n values and then run the report. It works great. Now I attempt to call Reporting Services from my Web Site. I format the URL and attempt to pass the mutliple values in the URL. An example would be http://YadaYada&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rcarameters=false&OrderTypeID='1,2' The report uses a Stored Procedure that is expecting @Ordertype Varchar(1000). And Yes, the Stored Procedures handles the multiple values being passed to it. What I receive is an error message (rsReportParameterTypeMismatch). Any suggestions on how to pass these values?
Thanks in Advance
Tom

I have a problem with report built in SSRS and deployed with Dashboard Designer to Sharepoint. There are few filters connected to report, 2 of them are multivalue. Regardless of data returned, when I select too many items in filter, the report is getting super small. It doesn't matter what you select, size changes when you select exact number of items or more. I replaced report with single line (filters where still conected) - result was the same.
Small amount of items selected:
More items selected:
Size of the raport in Dashboard Designer is set to "Percentage of dashboard page", when I selected autosize, result was the same.

I have a checkbox list like the one above.
For example, Training OR Production – should include everyone with an Training OR everyone with a Production checked OR everyone with both Training and Production checked. If service AND technical support – just those two options will show – the customer can only have those 2 options selected in their account and nothing else.
Is there an easy way to build the SQL query for this scenario? Any suggestions or tips?
Thank you for any help

I want that the user can chose several options from one ‘listbox’, and to do this, I have created two ‘listbox’, in the first one there are the options to select, and the second one is empty. Then, in order to select the options I want the user have select one or more options from the first ‘listbox’ and then click in a link to pass the options selected to the second ‘listbox’. Thus, the valid options selected will be the text and values in the second ‘listbox’. I have seen this system in some websites, and I think it is very clear.
Well, my question is, Is it possible to insert into the database all the values from a ‘listbox’ control? In my case from the second ‘listbox’ with all the values passed from the first one? If yes, in my database table I have to create one column (field) for every possible selected option?
Thank you,
Cesar

Hello everyone. I am using C#, and posted this in the C# forum, but was told to try here, as for some reason I just can't get this to work. Everyone was very helpful, but for some reason I keep getting a message that a value is not being given for one or more required parameters. This doesn't make any sense though, as I am specifying a value for all parameters...
Basically, I have a listBox that has several items in it. I want to update the database for each item that appears in the listBox. I can't seem to get this to work though, no matter what I try, and it is driving me nuts... lol
Here is a link to my original thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2349891&SiteID=1
Here is my code:
Code Block
string whereClause = "";
for (int i = 0; i < Panel1ListView1.Items.Count; i++)
{
if (i == 0)
{
whereClause = "ID = " + Panel1ListView1.Items[0].Text;
}
else
{
whereClause += " OR ID = " + Panel1ListView1.Items[i].Text;
}
}
try
{
using (OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(@"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + Environment.CurrentDirectory + @"DB.mdb;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=xxx;"))
{
OleDbCommand cmd;
conn.Open();
string command = "UPDATE [Table1] SET [Status] = @P1, [Name] = @P2, [Number] = @P3 WHERE " + whereClause;
cmd = new OleDbCommand(command, conn);
cmd.Parameters.Add("@P1", OleDbType.VarChar).Value = Panel1TextBox3.Text;
cmd.Parameters.Add("@P2", OleDbType.VarChar).Value = Panel1TextBox1.Text;
cmd.Parameters.Add("@P3", OleDbType.VarChar).Value = Panel1TextBox2.Text;
int i = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString());
}
I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I REALLY want to get this working. I am open to any suggestions and will try anything.
Thank you very much for your help.

Using SSRS 2008 r2...I have a report with a single-value parameter and three multi-value parameters, Class1, Name2 and Name3. I'm hoping for an explanation to one thing that I'm seeing and information on a second thing.
Class1 and Name2 both have the (Select All) parameter selected but Class1 is displaying the concatenated parameter variable list whereas Name2 is showing Null. Why is that? If anything, how can I get Class1 to be similar to Name2 and show Null?But my desired wish is to have Class1, Name2 and Name3 display the text"All Selected" when the parameter (Select All) is chosen.

I am struggling to come up with a set-based solution for this problem (i.e. that doesn't involve loops/cursors) ..A table contains items (identified by an ItemCode) and the set they belong to (identified by a SetId). Here is some sample data:
SetIdItemCode
1A
1B
24
28
26
310
312
410
[code]....
You can see that there are some sets that have the same members:
- 1 and 10
- 2 and 11
- 7, 8 & 9
What I want to do is identify the sets that have the same members, by giving them the same ID in another column called UniqueSetId.

I'm having an issue creating a report that can group & sum similar items together (I know in some ways, the requirement doesn't make sense, but it's what the client wants).
I have a table of items (i.e. products). In some cases, items can be components of another item (called "Kits"). In this scenario, we consider the kit itself, the "parent item" and the components within the kit are called "child items". In our Items table, we have a field called "Parent_Item_Id". Records for Child Items contain the Item Id of the parent. So a sample of my database would be the following:
ItemId | Parent_Item_Id | Name | QuantityAvailable
----------------------------------------
1 | NULL | Kit A | 10
2 | 1 | Item 1 | 2
3 | 1 | Item 2 | 3
4 | NULL | Kit B | 4
5 | 4 | Item 3 | 21
6 | NULL | Item 4 | 100
Item's 2 & 3 are child items of "Kit A", Item 5 is a child item of "Kit B" and Item 6 is just a stand alone item.
So, in my report, the client wants to see the SUM of both the kit & its components in a single line, grouped by the parent item. So an example of the report would be the following:
Name | Available Qty
--------------------------
Kit A | 15
Kit B | 25
Item 4 | 100
How I can setup my report to group properly?

Hi i am trying to enter more than one value into my constructor field in my database, at the moment when the values are entered into the database through the front end, they appear in the database as seperate records however they have the same ID, the only thing that changes is are the data in the fields which i want in just one. This is the part of the stored procedure I am sure is causing this to happen;
IF @Access_Right_ID=8 or @Access_Right_ID=3 or @Access_Right_ID=9 BEGIN DECLARE @Delimiter char(1) SET @Delimiter = ',' DECLARE @CommaPos int SET @CommaPos = Charindex(@Delimiter,@Constructor_IDs) DECLARE @Remaining_Constructor_IDs VARCHAR(8000) SET @Remaining_Constructor_IDs = @Constructor_IDs DECLARE @Constructor_ID int WHILE (@CommaPos>=0) BEGIN
SET @CommaPos = Charindex(@Delimiter,@Remaining_Constructor_IDs) if @CommaPos >0 SET @Constructor_ID = ltrim(rtrim(Substring(@Remaining_Constructor_IDs,1,@CommaPos-1))) else SET @Constructor_ID = @Remaining_Constructor_IDs INSERT INTO tblUser_Constructor ( User_ID, Constructor_ID) VALUES (@User_ID, @Constructor_ID ) SET @Remaining_Constructor_IDs = SUBSTRING(@Remaining_Constructor_IDs,@CommaPos+1,LEN(@Remaining_Constructor_IDs)-@CommaPos) if @CommaPos=0 set @CommaPos = -1 END

...such as stored procedures, tables etc.
Initially this started as a case of "doh, I should just be using one database here, not two", and I was simply wanting to copy database tables. In VS2K5 I tried as there is a right click menu option of copy when a table is selected but this doesn't work for me with any database object of any kind. So fast forward to the present...I now am attempting to deploy an app to a hosting service, 1&1.com. I am allowed only one database in my current package, which should be fine for now. So I had to combine the ASPNETDB along with 2 other databases. It took a bit of time, but I got everything done, I thought, and posted to the servers. While debugging I get an error saying a stored procedure can not be found. And it indeed is not.This really confuses me as I made the changes in VS2k5, shut down and restarted to make sure I didn't miss anything, then used SQL Server Man. Studio to make a .bak file to upload to my hosting service. It never occurred to me to verify the changes I made in VS2k5 were actually on the database when viewed there. Well, they aren't, and I have no idea why. That would be issue #1 I suppose.So after giving the background info here, what I am looking for help with is how to get the changes I am making in VS2k5 to also be present when viewed from SQL Server Man. Studio as the only means of posting a db to my hosting provider is by using a .bak file.Also, why is it a project template I download has a .mdf file I am not able to even see in SQL Server Man. Studio? I guess if I had this answer the issue would be resolved.TIARegards,Joe

The database is new or does not contain any objects...Connection to database is successful and it contain many tables and views but they are not being displayed.
Tried again with Sybase OLEDB provider but same issue.Even the Server Explorer where you can see database servers added is not showing any tables and views. I read somewhere it is because there may be no primary keys defined in any table so I created a new table with primary key but issue remains the same.

SELECT ID, LAST_NAME || ', ' || FIRST_NAME AS FULLNAMEFROM BIT_USER1WHERE (TYPE_ID = 1) OR (TYPE_ID = 3) OR (TYPE_ID = 4) OR (TYPE_ID = 5) OR (BLDG_ID = 1) OR (BLDG_ID = 2)ORDER BY LAST_NAME, FIRST_NAME
