Hi,
These aren't my tables, but lets dumb it down for my sake!
I have 2 tables:
CompanyInfo: IDNumber, EffectiveDate, CompanyName
TransacationInfo: TransactID, CompanyID, TransDate, Amount
There are several records in TransactionInfo for each record in CompanyInfo.
I want to:
SELECT CompanyInfo.IDNumber, CompanyInfo.EffectiveDate, CompanyInfo.CompanyName,
SUM(TransactionInfo.Amount)
How can I do this? Can I?

Hi,
I have one table (PermProportionalCosting) that contains employeecode, costcentre and proportionpercentage. An employee may have two or more records in this table, indicating that their salary has been split across multiple costcentres.
Another table (Employee) contains a default costcentre for each employee.
Another table (TransActualHistoricalMaster) contains the hours paid to each employee for each pay period.
My query so far selects all employees and the total hours worked from the TransMaster table, and then selects the costcentre and proportionpercentage from the PermProportionalCosting table. Multiple lines are created for all employees in the PermProportionalCosting table, with each line indicating the proportionpercentage and associated costcentre.
This is my query so far:
SELECT TransActualHistoricalMaster.EmployeeCode, Employee.PreferredName, Employee.LastName, CostCentre.Description, PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode,PermanentProportionalCosting.PercentageSplit,

This next bit is what I am unsure of.
I would like the CostCentre field from the Employee table to go into the PermanentProportionalCosting.CostCentreCode column where the employee doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table. In the above query, there is a null value for each employee that doesn't have a record in the PermanentProportionalCosting table, so I would like my query to replace the null value with the costcentre from the Employee table.
Any assistance would really be appreciated.

For example :
I want all the rows included between 30 and 50 from table XYZ
(30 and 50 are not keys but really the numbers of records)

I need to select the last 6 rows from a table... I was doing it like this:
select * from table where id > (select max(id)-6 as id from table)
But if one of the records is deleted it will only show 5.... Is there any easy way to make it show the bottom 6 records?

I am currently working on an application that requires, insertion of the results of a SQL Query in to the field of another table, in the form of a comma separated values.
For example, to explain things in detail:

I have a results table that was created from many different sources in SSIS. I have done calculations and created derived columns in it. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to remove duplicate rows from this table without first writing it to a temp sql table and then parsing through it to remove them.
each row has a like key in a column - I would like to remove like rows keeping specific columns in the resulting row based on the data in this key field.
Ideas?

Does anyone know of a way to execute sql code from a dynamically builttext field?Before beginning, let me state that I know this db architecture isbuilt solely for frustration and I hope to make it better soon.Unfortunately, there is never a non-crucial time in which we can do anupgrade, so we are stuck for now.Point 1:There are multiple tables: students, courses, cross-referencestudent/courses, teachers, cross-reference teacher/courses, andothers.Point 2:Yearly archiving is done by appending a 2 digit year suffix to thetable and rebuilding the table structure for the current year. This query has grown toobig for a varchar(8000) field. Actually, it's too big for 2 of them.Point 4:I don't want to write code to maintain any more varchar(8000) fieldsfor this query. It should be much more easily handled with atemporary table holding each bit of yearly archive data. I have builtthis and it works fine. Hi, all experts here,
I am wondering if tempdb stores all results tempararily whenever I query a large fact table with over 4 million records which joins another dimension table? Since each time when I run the query, the tempdb grows to nearly 1GB which nearly runs out all the space on my local system drive, as a result the performance totally down. Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks a lot in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly for your kind advices.

I cannot create a measure that returns results for dates that do not exist in the fact table despite the fact that the components included in the measure contain valid results for these same dates.Creature a measure that counts the number of days where the "stock qty" is below the "avg monthly sales qty for the last 12 months" (rolling measure).Here is the DAX code I have tried for the measure (note that filter explicitly refers to the date table (called Calendar) and not the fact table):

Having investigated these blank dates, I am pretty confident that they are dates for which there are no transactions in the fact table (weekends, public holidays etc...).why I am getting an "inner join" with my fact table dates despite the fact that this is not requested anywhere in the dax code and that the two sub measures are behaving normally?

I have table HITS with columns ID and hitDate and table DATESS with columns startDate and endDate.
I can have alot of entries in the HITS table with hitDate between the times of a startDate and endDate entry in the DATESS table.
What I am trying to do is to select all the ID's of the entries where hitDate is between startDate and endDate. (In the end I would use min and max to get the firt and last hit between those times)
I have tried:
SELECT ID from hits,Datess WHERE hitdate between startDate and endDate
but it does not give the required results. I think the problem is the tables are not related in any way. Is there another way to do this.

I need to analyze the results from Table 1, count how many records there are where one field matches, and then put some of Table 1's information into Table 2 along with the count of the records that match. This is built to interface with another system, so a lot of the information, names, and relationships can't always be changed.

I need to calculate how many of each serviceID's are in table 1, and then store that calculation and the ServiceID (Id_operlst) in table 2I need to separate those calculations by Owner, IdClient, US_State_Id, and Project_Name
I.E. If there are 5 entries in table 1 with ServiceId = X, and Owner A is listed on 2 of them and Owner B is listed on 3, I want it displayed as [Owner A, X, 2] and [Owner B, X, 3] in table 2.
Same goes for the other fields, which obviously adds more complexityWithin those calculations I also need to calculate the Start and end date for table 2. Hi all,
Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.

This puts some values including a pdf or .doc file into a table, tblDocTable.
Is it possible to change this so that I can get the values from a table rather than as parameters. The Query would be in the form of: insert into tblDocTable (a, b, c, d) select a,b,c,d from tblimportExport.
tblImportExport has the path for the document (DocPath) so I would subsitute that field, ie. DocPath, for the @fPath variable.
Otherwise I can see only doing a Fetch next from tblIportExport where I would put every field into a variable and then run this exec query on these. Thus looping thru every row in tblImportExport.
Any ideas how to do this?

I want a perform a query where i can get all the rows of the master table which have no relationed rows in detail table.
How can I do that???
