Please help me with this problem. Hoping that someone might experienced and resolved it. I am setting up an SQL job. Job has few steps and one of the step runs a stored procedure. I am trying to select a database name (NYSP) from the pull down menu. I save that and when I open the job properties again and check the step it's selecting another database there (HIPAA) not the one I've selected. Anyone know why this happening?

Im trying to insert a record in my sql server 2005 express database. The following function tries that and without an error returns true. However, no data is inserted into the database...Im not sure whether my insert statement is correct: I saw other example with syntax: insert into table values(@value1,@value2)....so not sure about thatAlso, I havent defined the parameter type (eg varchar) but I reckoned that could not make the difference....Here's my code: Function CreateNewUser(ByVal UserName As String, ByVal Password As String, _ ByVal Email As String, ByVal Gender As Integer, _ ByVal FirstName As String, ByVal LastName As String, _ ByVal CellPhone As String, ByVal Street As String, _ ByVal StreetNumber As String, ByVal StreetAddon As String, _ ByVal Zipcode As String, ByVal City As String, _ ByVal Organization As String _ ) As Boolean 'returns true with success, false with failure Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection = GetConnection() Dim bResult As Boolean Dim MyCommand As New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblUsers(UserName,Password,Email,Gender,FirstName,LastName,CellPhone,Street,StreetNumber,StreetAddon,Zipcode,City,Organization) VALUES(@UserName,@Password,@Email,@Gender,@FirstName,@LastName,@CellPhone,@Street,@StreetNumber,@StreetAddon,@Zipcode,@City,@Organization)", MyConnection) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@UserName", SqlDbType.NChar, UserName)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Password", Password)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Email", Email)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Gender", Gender)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@FirstName", FirstName)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@LastName", LastName)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@CellPhone", CellPhone)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Street", Street)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@StreetNumber", StreetNumber)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@StreetAddon", StreetAddon)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Zipcode", Zipcode)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@City", City)) MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Organization", Organization)) Try MyConnection.Open() MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() bResult = True Catch ex As Exception bResult = False Finally MyConnection.Close() End Try Return bResult End FunctionThanks!
Can anyone help me in finding out the database name? For example, @@SERVERNAME gives you the name of the server on which you SQL Server is running. In the same way, is there any global variable which gives me the name of the database in the context in which I am running my queries or stored procs?
Windows XP SQL Expresss 2005 SQL Express 2005 Manager
I simply want to edit and data I have in a database that I made with Express Manager. This worked before .Net 2.0. Now, I have the table displayed as a datagrid with an "edit" pushbutton associated with each row in the database table. When I click on the "edit" pushbutton to edit a specific row in the database table, instead of posting me to a page where the chosen row is editable, I am posted back to the same page without the chosen row availible to be edited. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? I am totally new to this so any help would be appreciated. I've got a big problem that I'm trying to figure out: I have an address table out-of-which I am trying to select mailing addresses for companies UNLESS a mailing address doesn't exist; then I want to select the physical addresses for that company. If I get multiple mailing or physical addresses returned I only want the most recently edited out of those.
I don't need this for an individual ID select, I need it applied to every record from the table.
My address table has some columns that look like: [AddressID] [int] [LocationID] [int]
AddressID is a primary-key non-null column to the address table and the LocationID is a foreign key value from a seperate Companies table. So there will be multiple addresses to one LocationID, but each address will have it's own AddressID.
How can I do this efficiently with perfomance in mind???
My SQL Server question is that I have a database that is 800mb, a logfile that is 150mb, but I have a database container that under SQL says that it is -494mb (Negative 493mb).
I am using ASP.NET and a normal ODBC stringconnectionDriver={SQL Server};Server=(local);MyBase;Uid=;Pwd=;Trusted_Co nnection=;when trying to CREATE a TABLE (with vb.net code) I get an error because the TABLE are written in Master !! and not in MyBasei am using windows authenticationwhat can be wrong ?thank you
I have a 50gb database, with 3 files at the primary filegroup, each one of those has around 16gb I truncated 2 tables releasing 33gb, so the database should have around 17gb now, but when I check at the properties it says that each file doesn't have any empty space
HiI have a table in my database called 'tblUsers'It contains usernames and a few columns of data. One of them in 'birthday'it is in the format dd/mm (ie 28/04 is 28th of april)it is always 5 characters longIts data type is char in my db.Now I try this<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource8" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:IntranetConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT DisplayName FROM [tblUsers] WHERE ([Birthday] = @ShortDate)"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="Calendar1" Name="ShortDate" PropertyName="SelectedDate" Type="string" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>where the selected date from a calendar control is used. Now it works when the table has a Date column which is off type DateTime but how would I modify it to work like I want? Thanks!
I know how to select the most recent row from a database: SELECT TOP (1) Location, Date FROM Images ORDER BY Date DESC But how do I select the second to most recent? or the third most recent? or the 4th, ect, ect, ect. There must be some method to it, anyone have any suggestions?
I need to call another database in the same server dynamically; creating a varible off it or somehow. Example:
-- In database DBaseA declare @dbname as varchar (30) set @dbname='[DBaseB].[dbo]' select * from @dbname.[table2]
I know this block of code doesnt work. And i need a way of making the database DBaseB dynamic. DBaseA and DBaseB are in the same server. I am using Sql Server 2000. How do i solve this? Solutions ?
Hi am very new with VB.net (Visual Studio 2005) and the first time try to use the sql server 2005 express. I did create a trial.mdf (local server) and complete procedure to attach the trial1.mdf in Microsoft SQL Management Studio Express.
I try to use VB to connect /open/close it with the following codes: (but failed)
-----------------------------------------------
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class Form1 'Link database Dim DB_Location = "c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTrial1.mdf" Dim MyConnection = "Server=localhost; DataBase= " & DB_Location & "Integrated Security=SSPI" Dim sqlConnection As New SqlConnection(MyConnection)
'Use database Dim strSQL As String = "SELECT FROM Trial1 WHERE col2 = 'trial' " Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(strSQL, MyConnection)
Just trying to select a set of Articles from a SQL Server Database. The Articles all have a Category ID which is stored in another table (as an Article could be in more than one Category). I want to select the Top 3 Articles in a Category. At the moment I have as my SQL;
"SELECT TOP 3 f.ArticleID, f.Heading, f.Summary, f.WrittenDate, f.ArticleURL FROM feedTable f LEFT JOIN Categories c ON f.ArticleID = c.ArticleID WHERE c.CategoryID=" + CategoryID + " AND c.ArticleID<>" + id + " ORDER BY c.CategoryID"
Which seems to work to an extent in that I do get three articles in the same Category appearing. However, there are sometimes duplicates appearing, so I need to incorporate a DISTINCT clause to the above. I'm not sure where to put this in though. Any ideas?
When I select the database and right click. I receive the following error:
Cannot show requested dialog Additional Information:
Cannot show requested dialog (sqlMgmt)

I've configured log shipping to use for DR purposes. I'm concerned that the physical location of the secondary is mis-reported by SQL Server Management Studio.
Viewing the secondary location (with Studio DB_name Properties Files) shows the path of the primary DB (I expected it to show the path of the secondary).
This SQL command shows the correct/actual paths of both primary and secondary DB's when run on their host servers.
SELECT name, physical_name AS CurrentLocation, state_desc FROM sys.master_files
Is this just cosmetic?
Here is an Example of how the Studio shows the incorrect path for the secondary.
I want to have a linking table say for example we call this a claim. Based on the claim number you need to relate to one of say 6 different types of claims. The types of claims related to their own individual parent table. (individual because each type of claim tracks completely different information) does anyone have an idea on how to set this up?
Sample Structure
table = Claim Field 1 = ClaimTypeA_ID Field 2 = ClaimTypeB_ID Field 3 = ClaimTypeC_ID Field 4 = ClaimTypeD_ID Field 5 = ClaimTypeE_ID Field 6 = ClaimTypeF_ID
The six field relate to the 6 different tables ID.
If I do this how do I store the data? put 0's in each of the claim types that are not used???
I have SQL Server Enterprise set up with Merge replication, it is being used to Sync with Windows Mobile Devices as the subscribers.
All the Windows Mobile subscribers have been synchronising fine up until recently, when 1 of the Subscribing Windows Mobile devices received this error. The day after, another device Synchronised fine the first time (note that the Synchronisation was a long one and the SDF grew in size dramatically while the synchronisation occured, but the Sync worked fine and the SDF dropped back to its initial size) The 2nd sync 5 mins later failed however so this Mobile device has the same error also.
Any suggestions as to the below are much appreciated
a) Why this error occurs? b)How do you resolve this error? c)What is the Repair utility mentioned in the error, and is it of use to me?
Thanks in advance, I am very greatful for any advice.
I have just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 from SQL Server 2000.In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, when I click on databaseproperties, I receive the following error:-Cannot resolve the collation conflict between"Latin1_General_CI_AS"and "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" in the equal to operation.(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 468)Some reference suggest that I can change the database collation byclicking database properties! What can I do?
A colleague of mine has a view that returns approx 100000 rows in about 60 seconds.
He wants to use the data returned from that view in an OLE DB Source component.
When he selects the view from the drop-down list of available tables then SSIS seems to hang without any data being returned (he waited for about 15 mins).
He then changed the OLE DB Source component to use a SQL statement and the SQL statement was: SELECT * FROM <viewname>
In this instance all the data was returned in approx 60 seconds (as expected).
This makes no sense. One would think that selecting a view from the drop-down and doing a SELECT *... from that view would be exactly the same. Evidently that isn't the case.
i can't seem to get this query to work, it just keep returning nulls with ever values i set . 1 SELECT Bedrooms, Description, Image, 2 (SELECT Location 3 FROM Location_Table 4 WHERE (Property_Table.LocationID = LocationID)) AS Location, LocationID, Price, Price AS PriceMax, PropertyID, Title, TypeID, 5 (SELECT TypeOfProperty 6 FROM Type_Table 7 WHERE (Property_Table.LocationID = TypeID)) AS TypeOfProperty 8 FROM Property_Table 9 WHERE (TypeID = @TypeID OR 10 TypeID IS NULL) AND (LocationID = @LocationID OR 11 LocationID IS NULL) AND (Price >= @MinPrice OR 12 Price IS NULL) AND (PriceMax <= @MaxPrice OR 13 PriceMax IS NULL)

I'm just learning SQL after using it for about a year now and I'm trying to add a Check constraint to a Social Security Field (See Below) and I can't figure out what is wrong with the syntax. In QA it errors out stating: Line 4: Incorrect syntax near '0-9'.
use Accounting Alter Table Employees Add Constraint CK_SNN Check (SSN Like [0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9])
