Selection From Query Fails

Mar 29, 2005

Hello,

I wonder if someone has come across a similar problem I am having.

I am migrating a database from Access to MS SQL 2000. The tables imported fine, but the queries had to be rewritten. I placed them under "Views". At present I am able to run a query directly on the SQL server, and it populates all fields nicely.

When I do "SELECT * FROM EQCustomerReport" where EQCustomerReport is a name of a View on SQL, it only returns part of the fields. The other fields are blanked out for some reason.

Please tell me if I am making a common mistake or something. Should I be using Stored Procedures instead of Views. Or would I be better of passing a full text of a query from my .NET application?

Thanks very much in advance.

Selection Query

Sep 21, 2006

Hi All

Being new to this forum and to SQL, I would to apologise upfront for my clumsy code and explanations as I try and get to grips with this subject.

I have created this query which does work:

SELECT T1.U_Serial,
case
when (U_RDate < GETDATE() AND U_ASDate Is NULL)
then 'NA'
when (U_RDate Is NULL)
then 'No Request'
when (U_ASDate Is Not NULL And U_AEDate Is NULL)
then 'NA'
when (U_ASDate Is Not NULL And U_AEDate Is Not NULL)
then 'A'
when (U_RDate > GETDATE() AND U_ASDate Is NULL)
then 'NA'
else 'DN'
end As Available,
case
when (U_RDate < GETDATE() AND U_ASDate Is NULL)
then 'Late'
when (U_RDate Is NULL)
then 'No Request'
when (U_ASDate Is Not NULL And U_AEDate Is NULL)
then 'Busy'
when (U_ASDate Is Not NULL And U_AEDate Is Not NULL)
then 'Done'
when (U_RDate > GETDATE() AND U_ASDate Is NULL)
then 'Waiting'
else 'DN'
end As Progress,

T1.U_Status,T1.U_JobTp, T1.U_JobNr,T1.Code, T0.U_CardNM, T0.U_ZpCd, GETDATE() as Today, T1.U_RDate, T1.U_ASDate, T1.U_AEDate, T1.U_ItemCd, T1.U_ItemDsc

FROM [dbo].[@IDH_JOBENTR] T0 , [dbo].[@IDH_JOBSHD] T1

WHERE T0.Code = T1.U_JobNr AND T1.U_Serial not like ''

ORDER BY T1.U_Serial, T1.U_AEDate DESC, T1.U_JobNr DESC ,T1.Code DESC,Today, T1.U_RDate, Available, Progress, T1.U_Status,T1.U_JobTp,T0.U_CardNM, T0.U_ZpCd, T1.U_ASDate, T1.U_ItemCd, T1.U_ItemDsc

The tables I’m using are IDH_JOBENTR which is the header records for my jobs and IDH_JOBSHD, which holds the row details for the jobs.

I’m trying to extract from the IDH_JOBSHD table the last (row) detail record for the (header) job.

The way the query works now, the first row for each unique serial number is the record I need, but this is all the info I would like to display I don’t need the other lines, and I don't know how to strip out the rest of the data

I hope this make sense.

Kind regards
Hayden

Make Selection Of Your Query Result

Aug 7, 2007

i will try to explain what i want with an example

if have a query that returns

user code amount
user1 A 10
user1 B 100
user1 C 10
user2 B 50
user2 D 10
user3 A 10
user3 C 20

what i want in my report is the following as result
Sum of code A and C Sum of code B and D
user1 20 100
user2 60
user3 30

so can you make variables on the scope user that do a selection on the 'code'
in words like a variable that give me the sum of the amount where code in A and C in the scope user

SQL 2012 :: How To Execute One Query From SP Based On User Selection

Dec 22, 2014

I have a SSRS report with 6 columns each column containing count of total# of applicants meeting certain criteria.
User want to click on each column and see the basic information and also want to get the ability to export the data into excel.

I know that I can create 6 drillthrough reports with basic information of applicants and link it to the count from each column respectively but I was wondering if it is possible to write a Stored procedure with all 6 select queries and execute only 1 select query based on the column that user clicks on main report ?

Reporting Services :: Passing All Parameter Selection To Dataset Query

Nov 20, 2015

I have a report that prompts the user to select a parameter, for simplicity, let's say the parameter is for color choice, options are Red, Yellow, Blue or *. The * is for include all colors. I am passing that parameter back to the dataset query which, again for simplicity is

select
Hue from AvailableColors
whereColor
= @ColorParam.

For a specific color this works fine, for the "*" selection it returns a null. It would seem that I need to convert the * to % but I am not sure how.....

Query Fails With Invalid Column Name But Succeed As Sub-query With Unexpected Results

Sep 22, 2015

-- The 3rd query uses an incorrect column name in a sub-query and succeeds but rows are incorrectly qualified. This is very DANGEROUS!!!
-- The issue exists is in 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014 and is "By Design"

set nocount on
go
if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#t1') IS NOT NULL drop table #t1
if object_id('tempdb.dbo

[code]....

This succeeds when the invalid column name is a valid column name in the outer query. So in this situation the sub-query would fail when run by itself but succeed with an incorrectly applied filter when run as a sub-query. The danger here is that if a SQL Server user runs DML in a production database with such a sub-query which then the results are likely not the expected results with potentially unintended actions applied against the data. how many SQL Server users have had incorrectly applied DML or incorrect query results and don't even know it....?

Query Fails Using SQL5

Mar 22, 2008

Hi, My first post here, so i hope i'm in the right place.

I have a website that has been live for some time now, and my host has just upgraded from sql4, to sql5. Since they did this i get an error in my site that suggests it cannot find a field in a paricular table. I have checked the table, and the field is still present.

The error my site returns is:

1054 Unknown column 'fg.products_id' in 'on clause'
in:
[select fg.*, p.products_id, pd.products_name from free_gifts fg, products p LEFT JOIN products_description pd ON (pd.products_id = fg.products_id) WHERE pd.language_id = '1' AND p.products_id = fg.products_id ORDER BY fg.threshold ASC]

Is there anything in this query that is non compliant with version 5 of SQL?, and if so, what needs to be changed?

Also, what is the "ON" statement, in this query, as it's not one i'm familiar with.

Thanks
Steve

Sql Query Fails At Specific Times

Dec 11, 2003

Hi,

I'm in an unfortunate situation. We are posting information using a stored procedure to an outside SQL server connected to through a System DSN on our server (win 2003 server) using php's ODBC functions (we never had any luck connecting directly to the SQL server using php's mssql functions).

Everything is working fine, we can connect, send querys, etc ... but between 1am and 10am we recieve errors when trying to execute queries (though we can connect fine).

Whoops ... forgot to get the error returned before it turned 10am ... I can post it tomorrow

I think the database is being locked, but unfortunately I know very little about MS SQL server

The people who's database we are connecting to are not being helpful ... I was hoping I could get some suggestions on what would be the cause.

Anything you can suggest would be a huge help! Thanks!

Using A Date Filter In Query With (&< Or &>) Fails But With (=) Works ???

May 11, 2006

I have a simple ASP.NET application that allows the user to enter a Query in a TextArea and submit that to the database. Queries that contain Integer, String or other filters seem to work fine, but when the Query contains a Date or DateTime I have problems.
Here is an example that works fine in Query analyzer but fails when executed in ASP.NET.
"select top 10 * from Subscribers where StartDate < '09-03-2002'"
In Query Analyzer no problem, in ASP.NET I get this error...
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near ';'
However if the Query uses '=' instead of a '<' or '' then it works without error
"select top 10 * from Subscribers where StartDate ='09-03-2002'"
Any help would be appreciated

Running A Query On A Snapshot Database Fails.

Oct 1, 2007

Hello!

I'm trying to use mirroring + snapshots for reporting on a large database.

I've set up the mirrored database and created a snapshot.

Everything looks fine unil a run some queries on the snapshot.

Some queries work some don't. the error is this:

Msg 954, Level 14, State 1, Line 1

The database "test" cannot be opened. It is acting as a mirror database.

From what i can tell when he's trying to use an index for the query, the engine tries to use it from the mirror database.

eg.
this query works fine:
select top 10 * from dbo.table1

this query gives the error:
select top 10 * from dbo.table1 order by col1 desc

What's going on and how can i make this setup work?
thanks.

Insert Query Fails (if Form Fields Left Empty)

Aug 13, 2007

Dear All,
I have created a table in my SQL server database, the problem i am facing is my insert query fails if i leave any form field empty (leave it blank). On my back-end table, only one field is mandatory, and others have been set with the constraint "allow null".
As per our business requirement, except one value is complusory while others are optional. If I enter all values in the form it works perfectly fine. Can you see in the code below - where am i possibly going wrong ?
<script language="VB" runat="server" >      Sub Page_Load(Src As Object, e As EventArgs)                      If Page.IsPostBack Then                        Dim ConLath As SqlConnection            Dim comLath As SqlCommand            Dim insertcmd                        conLath = New SqlConnection("Data Source=SQLas;Initial Catalog=settle;User ID=sa;Password=password")            ConLath.Open()            insertcmd = "Insert into His_set values (@t_d,@s_p,@p_s,@v_oq,@i_oq,@v_qn,@i_qn,@v_qw,@i_qw)"                        comLath = New SqlCommand(insertcmd, ConLath)                                    comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@t_d", SqlDbType.DateTime, 12))            comLath.Parameters("@t_d").Value = trade_date.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@s_p", SqlDbType.Decimal, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@s_p").Value = sett_price.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@p_s", SqlDbType.Decimal, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@p_s").Value = post_close.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@v_oq", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@v_oq").Value = vol_oq.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@i_oq", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@i_oq").Value = oi_oq.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@v_qn", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@v_qn").Value = vol_qn.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@v_qw", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@v_qw").Value = vol_qw.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@i_qn", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@i_qn").Value = oi_qn.Text            comLath.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@i_qw", SqlDbType.Int, 8))            comLath.Parameters("@i_qw").Value = oi_qw.Text

ok. Here is how the data looks.
Group
code station_nbr beg_eff_date end_eff_date C02 sample_date
0004 D01G000819 2007-09-01 3000-12-31 0.40 2007-10-02
0004 D01G000819 2007-09-01 3000-12-31 2.49 2007-10-09

What I am trying to do is to select the most current sample date. In this case "2007/10/09" when station_nbr and group_code are the same for both dates.

CheckBoxList Selection

Mar 14, 2008

Hi
I have CheckBoxList to make my selection as follows:if (CheckBoxList2.SelectedValue == "")
{
strSelect = strSelect;
}else if (CheckBoxList2.SelectedValue == "1")if (strWhere == " where")
{strWhere = strWhere + " pic1 = 'true' ";
}
else
{strWhere = strWhere + " and pic1 = 'true' ";
}if (CheckBoxList2.SelectedValue == "2")if (strWhere == " where")
{strWhere = strWhere + " pic2 = 'true' ";
}
else
{strWhere = strWhere + " and pic2 = 'true' ";
}if (CheckBoxList2.SelectedValue == "3")if (strWhere == " where")
{strWhere = strWhere + " pic3 = 'true' ";
}
else
{strWhere = strWhere + " and pic3 = 'true' ";
}
which mean it will addor remove the fields depends upon the user selection, but it will only select one !!
Thanks in advance

Calculating The 3rd Value By The First 2's Selection

May 30, 2008

Hi,
First off, let me state that i am new to ASP.net... and have had to hit the ground running... I have looked on the net but have not found a suitable explanation on how to do this.
Let me explain what i am trying to do: In my aspx page, i have 2 dropdown boxes where the user will select a skill catagory, and then a skill. Based on that selection, i would like to compute what the Service line will be. There is a primary and foreign key on CatID on the skills and SkillCat tables. This data would need to be inserted into the another table aswell, and this would need to go into a report later.
How do i go about doing this? Some examples would be greatly appreciated. And if you know of a good link, please post it for me.

Selection Of Data

Dec 26, 2005

Hi all techies

suppose a table contains these set of values

employeeId          EffectiveDate
1                         2004-12-01

2                        2005-11-15
3                        2004-12-01

2. when i want to select data for the date ranges
(2005-11-01) to (2005-11-30), it should be

1                        2004-12-01
2                        2004-12-01
2                        2005-11-15
3                        2004-12-01

3. when i want to select data for the date ranges
(2005-10-01) to (2005-10-31), it should be

1                        2004-12-01

Help Making A Selection

Feb 25, 2005

I hope I can explain this somewhat coherantly. Here goes..

I have a products database. I want to select product details for items having distinct style codes. IE if there are 20 products that different from one another in some way, and 3 different style numbers throughout them, I want to end up with 3 products selected. I don't care which ones, as long as i have a sample product for each style.
I've attemped to use GROUP BY to do this, but it's not giving me what I want. I managed to get right number of products, but the query seems to have mixed and matched the fields together in an undesireable way. I guess this kinda makes sense, since providing aggregate functions for each of the extra fields is necessary.
SO THE QUESTION IS: How do I select (number of distinct styles) products, and still keep the records in tact as they should be?

Here is a sample...

Code:

SELECT DISTINCT Min(team) as team, min(pict) as pict, min(colors) as colors, min(league) as league, min(product_description) as product_description, min(category) as category, min(subcategory) as subcategory, min(style) as style
FROM prods
WHERE (style='style1' or style='style2' or style='style3')
AND league='leaguex'
AND soldout=''
GROUP by style
ORDER by style

Thanks very much for any help!! I'm sure I'm going about this all wrong.
