Selling My Software And SQL Server 2000 As Part Of The Package
Jul 7, 2006
Hi everyone,
I have developed a VB6 application that works with SQL server 2000. My client does not have a SQL server installed on their machine. I wonder do I have to purchase a copy of SQL server 2000 and install it to client's computer ?
How much would a basic version of SQL server 2000 cost ?
I am new to the softwarel world. Please give me some advise.
Thanks for all your great forum topics; it gives me a nice break from coding all day!
I know the answer to this question is in the documentation that comes with the SQL Server Express [9] download, but I've been unable to find it. What I was wondering is what the restrictions were if you were to incorporate the "free" SQL Server Express for selling or general distribution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Execute following T-SQL within Queary Analyzer of SQL Server 2000:=======================================DECLARE @dTest DATETIMESET @dTest='2001-1-1 1:1:1:991'SELECT @dTestSET @dTest='2001-1-1 1:1:1:997'SELECT @dTestSET @dTest='2001-1-1 1:1:1:999'SELECT @dTest=======================================You get what?This is my result which is weird:2001-01-01 01:01:01.9902001-01-01 01:01:01.9972001-01-01 01:01:02.000Then what's the reason of this weird problem?
If I'm wanting to sell my Web Applications to clients that run using SQL Server, is it best to use a UserID and Password in the connection string, or would using Windows Integrated Security (SSPI) do? The reason I'm wondering is because I wouldn't know my customer's UserID and Password when they purchased one of my web apps, I would have to recompile the app with the new connection string (I'm not storing it in the web.config file)..
What is the best way to handle this on a global level, so that it would work on any system?
for example, would having the following connection string be a good idea for a production site?
I need to design an asp.net application w/ and MSDE backend database that will be deployed at 50 different location (unrelated to each other). The application's deployment package needs to be downloaded from a web site on the internet. The end user locations do not have SQL2000 or MSDE...some have access.
I want to know if my deployment package can include the MSDE software? Or, can anyone offer ideas on the EASIEST way for these small offices to get MSDE installed on each of their servers so that my ASP.NET applications will connect to via ado.net.
I need to convert an access 2000 database to access 2013 and then load the data into a sql server 2012 database. Thus any urls (links) that will show me how to accomplish the following in an SSIS package:
1. Convert an access 2000 database to access 2013 database? 2. Load the converted Access 2013 database into sql server 2012?
I am running a DTS package that runs a T-SQL statement and every once and a while I get the following error: 2007-11-19 01:40:20.16 spid54 Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0 2007-11-19 01:40:20.16 spid54 SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 54 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.. 2007-11-19 01:40:23.54 spid54 language_exec: Process 54 generated an access violation.
Has anyone been able to run a DTS package from DOS. When I execute the dtsrun command it fires the process off in another Dos session and quickly closes. I know that SQL 7.0 worked ok. When it runs from dos it tell you when each step runs successfully or fails. I am Running Windows 2000 Server SP2 and SQL 2000 SP1. So the question is, is there any way to run the dtsrun utility from dos so you can see what is going on?
I've tried several different possibilities but don't have enough basicunderstanding of the ownerships and permissions that are involved soI'm looking for someone to explain what is required:I created a DTS package that includes a drop table, create table, anddata transformation task. Originally, my owner was local to the pcworkstation with administrator priveleges. When I executed thepackage on demand (manually, not scheduled), it runs just fine. Noerrors. When I schedule the package to run at a scheduled day/time,it fails with an access is denied message.I originally was using the sql admin user and password in theconnection but the view job history kept referencing "Executed asuser: sqlservernameSYSTEM...." and errored with an access is deniedmessage. Where did it get the SYSTEM user from since my connectionused the sql admin user in my DTS package? Do I need to determine howto get the sql admin user or should the SYSTEM user really have to runthis scheduled job? How do I get the sql admin user to show as the"executed as user"?I created another admin user to see if it had someone to do with thesql admin account but I got similar results. I tried creating thepackage as an NT domain user but got similar results.I'm sure it has something to do with permissions and ownerships but Ireally don't have a clear understanding of how it was intended towork.Any advise you can give is greatly appreciated. I've read alot ofpostings and I'm still not clear on the requirements.
I am not sure where to ask this question. So I figured here may be ok
I have several DTS 2000 packages and I have SQL 2005 installed on my local machine. However the rest of the company is still using SQL 2000 (for now). So I do not want to convert them to ssis yet. One of the things we just did to the packages is make all flat files use \localhost and any servers point to (local). Now in ssis this works fine but using the DTS 2000 package designer it does not like either of these at all. The reason we wanted to do this is so when we switch out servers there is no changes to our DTS packages.
I´m currently developing an import/export package in SSIS. I recently realized that this package is supposed to be run on a SQL Server 2000 instance, and I have no clue if this will work... I´m pretty new to SQL Server, but I now that DTS from 2000 ws replaced by SSIS in 2005, and the command-line dtsrun replaced by dtexec.
So my question: Will I be able to run a SSIS package on SQL Server 2000, and how would I do that?
I have SSRS 2005 SP2 configured to work in Sharepoint integration. Everything works fine except that I am not able to programmatically change any property of report viewer web part (instance) that I have added on on home page of my sharepoint site. I can do same thing via sharepoint UI but not through program. When my programs runs it fetches all web parts been added on home page, then I need to iterate through each one and find report viewer web part. While iterating, as soon as I arrive to report viewer web part it is named as "Error web part" with error message as "Windows SharePoint Services cannot deserialize the Web Part. Check the format of the properties and try again"
If someone has a solution, please respond at your earlist.
I have a table with a column named measurement decimal(18,1). If the value is 2.0, I want the stored proc to return 2 but if the value is 2.5 I want the stored proc to return 2.5. So if the value after the decimal point is 0, I only want the stored proc to return the integer portion. Is there a sql function that I can use to determine what the fraction part of the decimal value is? In c#, I can use dr["measurement "].ToString().Split(".".ToCharArray())[1] to see what the value after the decimal is.
I have a for each loop that populates from a set of flat files into a Sql Server table, I run the Flat file Import via a dts package embedded into Execute DTS 2000 Task. I want to pass the Sourcefile Name that is fetched by the For Each Loop to assign it Global Variable in DTS. how this can be made ?
Hi, I have a Users table in Oracle database and same table (Users) in SQL Server 2000 database. I want to create a DTS Package through which I can copy the data from Oracle database to SQL Server 2000 database. This package should run automatically at mid-night daily so that if there are some entries done in Oracle database then it get copied in SQL Server 2000 database. Also is there any way to copy only those entries from Oracle database which are not present in SQL Server 2000 database. Please help me in this regard as I am new to DTS.
I am trying to import data from a text file to SQL database through a DTS package. i am always getting "Column Delmimeter not found" error at record number 8000. i copied the 8000th record into the beginning of the file to test if there is any problem with data but still i got the error at 8000 th record. i know it was a problem before and was fixed with sp1. i installed SP4 and still gettting the same error.
I have successfully created a SSIS package which execute a DTS 2000 package and with no problem to execute the task. But I failed to schedule this package. I was not success in setting the logging. When running the package in command line:
dtexec file "C:Documents and SettingslyangMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsTraingDTSTraingDTSDTSTraining.dtsx"

I've had a DTS Package scheduled to run every morning since June last year, however on Monday and again this morning, the DTS package has failed on two of its steps. This DTS package runs on SQL Server 2000 and the server is a Windows 2000 Server.
Basically, the DTS Package steps that fail are populating a "cache" table from a "live" table and then performing Inserts / Updates on the "live" table from a CSV file depending upon whether data exists in the "cache" table and whether the CSV file contains an "Insert" or "Update" flag. The live table has just over 800,000 rows of data and our nightly CSV extract, containing both inserts and updates, has about 6000 rows.
The error / failure has only happened in the last two days and I'm not too sure if there's any "timeout" feature in DTS and if there is, how I can modify it, or whether this may be something to do with long transactions or temp dbspace running out.
The time that the DTS package runs was modified last week to run two hours earlier (03:00 instead of 05:00) and has ran okay for a few days. I don't know whether this change is a red herring, as I have checked other DTS packages on the machine and none appear to run at the same time.
Here's the message from the third step in the DTS Package (second one that's failing).

Any help is greatly appreciated as I've searched these forums and the web and can't really find any answers.
I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.
Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'. For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists. Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.
The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest... Thanks in advance
I have another question regarding migration process to diffrent SQL Server.
Last time when I did migration I didn't restore system databases (master in particular). I only restored user databases and of course I've got login errors such Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error 15023: User or role '%s' already exists in the current database. I just used sp_change_users_login to fix those orphans.
I've read articles in MS knowledge base and not quite sure is this a good idea to restore master database prior to restoring all user databases on the new server in order to keep all logins?
I'll try to use recommended article for transfering logins with password instead of restoring master database from backup http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q246/1/33.ASP
I am sorry to continue bothering this forum with the continuation of this question but here it is. And thank you to Craig for giving me the equivalent of the function Date() in SQL. Now when I pull from the SQl Server with the old ASP pull with this statement using GETDATE()
strSQLQuery1 = "SELECT * FROM cocoitem WHERE CustNum = '" & strcustnum & "' AND (stat = 'O' OR stat = 'F') AND [due-date] > DateAdd('yyyy', -1, GETDATE()) Order By [cust-item], [due-date] ASC;"
I get this: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Invalid parameter 1 specified for dateadd.
/scripts/order/shippingstatsopen.asp, line 28
So I guess I need to also know the equivalent of DateAdd . Also, does anyone know of a Access Function to Sql 7 function comparison chart so I can write for the new database comprehendingly?
I have an xml stored in a coulum of a table and I use the following query to extract an xml element :
select CONVERT(XML,CONVERT(NVARCHAR(max),Response)).value('(/Quote/error)[1]','nvarchar(max)') as Excepiton .The result of the expression is :
TL43:The product has no marked price.;I would like to select only the code : TL43and then separately I would like to select The product has no marked price. Is there a way I can do it?
I am trying to make a query that will group my errors messages together - my problem is that each of the error messages is unique, due to them having an unique id in them.
Here is a sample order # we used for one of our shipments: BL-53151-24954-1-0001-33934
I need to extract the "24954" portion of that order # while within an INNER JOIN, but not sure how.
My problem is we have 2 order tables: OrderTable1 contains a field with the full order #. OrderTable2 contains a field with only the "24954" portion. I need to JOIN on these 2 fields somehow.
SELECT ot1.Full_Order_No , ot2.Order_No FROM OrderTable1 ot1 INNER JOIN OrderTable2 ot2 ON ot2.Order_No = [do something here to truncate ot1.Full_Order_No]
How can I do this?
Few notes:
-the 1st part of the order number, "BL-53151-" will ALWAYS be the same. It's our client # which will never change for the purpose of this query. -The portion I need (24954) can be more or less than the 5 current digits. -There will always be 6 portions to the order number, split up between 5 dashes.
We have 2 databases ( Guider and Talker ) and we have a WCF service that is logged in with a domain identity.
In our SQL Server we have the service ID added to the Data Server Logins and both Guider and Talker are given access to the user.
When we access Guider we have no problems getting data.
When we access Talker we have a login failure:
Cannot open database 'Talker' requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'AcornCommunicationServices'.
The thing that gets me is that the user is created at the Server level, in both Databases, and at the server level both databases are checked for the user. master has been set as the default database for the user.
Basically, as far as I can see Talker and Guider are configured identically! So I cannot figure out why I cannot login to the second database!
Is there a specific setting I'm missing somewhere to grant login access to the user? I'm using
