Best Way To Send DB Results To Variable

Feb 28, 2005

Hello all

I have a database query which will return a single value

SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT(Level_id)) FROM RoleSkill WHERE Route_ID = 1

obviously this will return only a single value and not an array of data like most database queries, therefore i would like it to be sent directly to an integer variable.

I tried doing this directly with a sqlcommand but get error that it cannot be converted to integer. Is there a good way of solving this problem?

thanks for your help

Send Per Email SELECT Results With More Than 1 Row

Nov 20, 2014

"Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression"..It is about a Stored Procedure, which not only should output the number of opportunities with status "Pending" or "Accepted" but also the name of the opportunities with these statuses. Following points:

1. The SELECT that outputs the names of the opportunities may in some cases return more than one value. I created then the CURSOR CUR_TEST.

2. The code should return the names of Opportunities, namely after "The opportunities are:" and these must be sent to the recipients of an email. How can I do this, so the Names of the Opportunities and the rest of the email can be sent by email?. I mean, the concatenation with SET or SELECT doesn't work. I get as email only the output of the last row of the SELECT with cursor CUR_TEST.

3. I add an example how the output should be.

The following is the code:

BEGIN

declare
@V_USER VARCHAR(20),
@V_NAME VARCHAR(100),
@V_QUANTITY INT,
@V_EMAIL VARCHAR(60),
@V_BODY VARCHAR(MAX),
@V_QUANTITY_ACTIVE int,

[code]...

An example how the Output in the email body should be:

Dear MyName,
You have 47 Opportunities with status Pending.
The Opportunities are:

Name of Opportunity 1
Name of Opportunity 2
Name of Opportunity 3

Send Results Of SELECT FOR XML Query To A File

Feb 9, 2008

I have posted this on previous forums, but the below code is a VB.net CLR stored proc that will accepts two parameters, a SELECT.... FOR XML query and a file path, and saves the resulting xml result into a file specified by the parameter. After compiling the VB code into a .dll than the T-SQL code to import the assembly, create the CLR proc and test it is included underneath. Hope some will find this useful

Code Snippet
'Requires the Trial or Release version of Visual Studio .NET 2005 Professional (or greater).

Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Server
Imports System.Xml

Partial Public Class outputxml

Exec Sp_executesql Vs. Sp_executesql And Performance

Jul 23, 2005

This is a odd problem where a bad plan was chosen again and again, butthen not.Using the profiler, I identified an application-issued statement thatperformed poorly. It took this form:exec sp_executesql N'SELECT col1, col2 FROM t1 WHERE (t2= @Parm1)',N'@Parm1 int', @Parm1 = 8609t2 is a foreign key column, and is indexed.I took the statement into query analyzer and executed it there. Thequery plan showed that it was doing a scan of the primary key index,which is clustered. That's a bad choice.I then fiddled with it to see what would result in a good plan.1) I changed it to hard code the query value (but with the parmdefinition still in place. )It performed well, using the correct index.Here's how it looked.exec sp_executesql N'SELECT cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.AZEl_Intid AS[Oid], cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.incomplete_flag AS [IsIncomplete],cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.traceflag AS [IsTraceAmount],cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.standardqty AS [StandardAmount],cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.Uitem_intid AS [NutritionItemOid],cbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement.AZeldef_intid AS [AnalysisElementOid] FROMcbord.cbo1013p_AZItemElement WHERE (Uitem_intid= 8609)', N'@Parm1 int',@Parm1 = 8609After doing this, re-executing the original form still gave badresults.2) I restored the use of the parm, but removed the 'exec' from thestart.It performed well.After that (surprise!) it also performed well in the original form.What's going on here?

Sp_executesql ¿qué?

Feb 27, 2008

I'm having trouble working out why the sp_executesql procedure is not replacing my place holders with the value assigned to it.

Some quick info: I'm running the routine from the commandline through OSQL on a box that has MSSQL2000 enterprise installed. The code is sent to a MSSQL2005 box.

I've noticed one dumb thing I've done and that is making the nvarchar variable @db_name a different size to the one declared in the sp_executesql command. But I'm not sure if that is the problem. It throws a @db_name is not a database error etc.

Snippet that is not working:

declare @db_name varchar(80)

declare @sql_command nvarchar(1500)-- for our dynamic sql command within the cursor loop.

CLOSE c1
DEALLOCATE C1

As you can see, I tried casting it since it had a problem with computing a string as an int, but it still doesn't work. Help?

Sp_executesql

Hi There

Is a table variable invalid for sp_executesql ?

I am trying the following:

SELECT @SQL = N'WAITFOR

(RECEIVE message_body, conversation_handle, message_type_name, message_sequence_number, conversation_group_id FROM ' + @callingQueue + ' INTO @msgTable WHERE conversation_group_id = '

+ CAST(@conversationGroup AS char) + '), TIMEOUT 2000'

EXEC sp_executesql @SQL, N'@msgTable TABLE output', @msgTable out

I get the following message:

Msg 137, Level 15, State 2, Procedure CENTRAL_Queue_Processor, Line 92

Must declare the scalar variable "@msgTable".

I have decalred the variable but it is a table variable, this leadds me to believe sp_execute sql only supports scalar varibles not table variables, BOL does not say yes or no in this respect.

Can this be done?

Thanx

SQL Server 2008 :: Elegant Way For Returning All Results When Subquery Returns No Results?

Right now, I'm doing it this way.

DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100
SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE
CountyId IN
(
SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId)

This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Feb 12, 2008

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.
