Sending Email Through Reporting Services
Jun 21, 2007
Hi,
I am new to reporting services. I am currently on the maintenance of few reports that are developed.
Any subscribed report I attempt to deliver via email is failing with a strange error.
"Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information."
I am not able to understand where this log file is stored..where can I find this? Please let me know.. and if someone has faced this error before then what could be the reason? I am using SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 R2 standard edition.
Cheers
Abhi..

Hi All
I just wondered that now SQL Mail is classed as a legacy solution for email, does anyone know how to set up Notification Services to send email once a job has completed e.g. Backup or reindex?
I have tried to find a tutorial but with no joy so far!
Thanks

I have table called email_address and have all the email ids in this table. using sql task, I am getting the ids and passing to string. This string variable is passed to the to field using expression.Since it is a string only the first email id is set in the to field and the rest is ignored. Can you tell me a way to parameterize all the email ids to the to field in this case.Email ids from Table -> To field..I would like to put all the email ids in the to fields at once and send only a single email!

I am getting the following error when I set up a subscription, I am able to send smtp messages from the same server using a winclient, I also made sure that the user that runs the RS service is the same as the winclient.
Read all the ms docs about setting the email settings, have tried quite a lot of them, but for some reason i have been getting the following error. Just unable to bypass this!
I wonder if someone has had a similar exp.
Failure sending mail: The server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 454 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to Send As this sender
Installing a local SMTP might not work as our polocies are to run smtp from exchange.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi, this question is related to Reporting Services on SQL Server 2000. When creating a report and setting it to send via email as an attached excel spreadsheet, the email is in the format HTML. Does anyone know if it possible to default this format to something else like Rich Text. I have a feeling that this might involve a change to the RSEmailDPConfiguration within the RSReportServer.config file but am not sure which tag needs changing or adding.
Any help/suggestions greatfully received.

I currently have a report on our Reporting Services 2005 server that takes a CompanyID as its only parameter. Also, in our database, we have a list of contacts that are linked to the CompanyID that is used in the report. What I would like to do is email a pdf or each company's report to every contact for that company in our database daily. However I am stuck on how to do that. My project is using C#, but if there is a way to do this directly through Reporting Services I could do that as well. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I just moved our SSRS server from one machine to another. It was sending our report emails from a service account. So when my end users get the emailed report it was from a service account (reports@blah.com) .
Now that I moved the DB to another server - the reports get emailed successfully - but they are being sent from my email address!
I have checked the rsreportserver config file. I also checked in the report server smtp setup and they both show the service account. I even checked the subscription owners and accounts.
SSRS is using my account, but I can't find where it's getting it from. Where else can I look?

In Sql Reporting Services 2005 (This is bolded because this same error is all over the web for Sql Reporting Services 2000 and thats not where my problem lies) I schedule a report to be emailed. However when the delivery extensions Deliver method is called I get the following error
Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration
error. See the report server log files for more information.
In the log it shows the following

So it seems to be failing at GetAuthzContextForUser
I've set up my smtp as out domain email smtp, given the accounts all the permissions I could (Even going to far as to give Everyone permissions everywhere)
Currently my IIS, SQL 2005 and reporting Services 2005 as well as my local SMTP is running on the local machine account.
I cannot seem to get it to work, or even give me a different error.
Could anybody please tell me what needs permission where and what settings I need to have set up for this not to happen.
Some extra information
I'm using Windows XP to develop on however the server where this will eventually run is Windows Server 2003
I'm using ASP.NET 2 and SQL Reporting Services 2005 and SQL 2005 with sp1 loaded
Any help would be appreciated

The subscription email, however, contains a report with errors: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.UIPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture= neutral,PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. The report contains embedded code as well as references to System.Security and System. I would like to configure the permitted hosts setting for the Report Server. According to MSDN, the Syntax is:
<PermittedHosts>
<HostName>Adventure-Works.com</HostName>
<HostName>hotmail.com</HostName>
</PermittedHosts>
In case of having only one host, is the <HostName> tag mandatory? I was not able to find more information regarding the xsd on which the configuration file is based. To be more specific, is it possible to define the PermittedHost like this or will this result in an error?
<PermittedHosts>Adventure-Works.com</PermittedHosts>

The following SP adds a record to a table. I want to then send an email from within this SP to notify someone that their login is blocked. I can get their email address easily with a simple select but how does the xp_sendmail procedure actually fit in ?? I've tried adding it in just before the raiserror part but it doesn't work ? The raiserror part is used to trigger an alert to notify me but i need to also notify the client. Can anyone see what i am doing wrong please. Many thanks.

Ok I am going to try and explain this best as possible.
I have a report that gets everyones name who has not filled in attendance for a class. what they want is when the report is ran an email gets sent out. so I have written the sql to create a temp table that will get the distinct email.... so lets say the table consists of
jacob.ostop@synergit.com
xxxx@yyyy.com
gagsag@shsna.com
what i need to do now is get those three address and add them to a string that would be in the format of
jacob.ostop@synergit.com ; xxxx@yyyy.com ; gagsag@shsna.com
so that i can put that in the TO field of my email.
my problem is that i dont know how to get them each 1 at a time and put in semi colons..
can someone please help me!

I have report which accepts a card number and fromdate and todate as parameters to the report. This report needs to be sent on a quarterly basis to each of the customer mail id to which their card number is linked. I am getting all this information from a database and sending as an attachment to the customer. Now I would need making these filename's which are attached to be dynamic based on the input parameters.
In datadriven subscriptions, the option of include report has only true or false values and another option was to take from a database. I tried putting the dynamic file name in the database and getting the value from the database but no success, the subscription itself is failing here. I guess I am doing something wrong here by binding the report name from the value which I am getting from DB to the actual report name.
If report name = Mytransactions, and the parameters passed are Card = 123,fromdate = 1/1/2010,todate = 31/3/2010.
Now in the attachment the file name should be something like "Mytransactions_123_January1st2010_March31st2010".
How to make the filename dynamic.

Does anyone know how to send emails from within a trigger without the use of a mail server. I know that xp_sendmail can be used if a mail server, such as MS Exchange Server is available and SQL Server is set up as an e-mail client. However is there a way to send mail to the outside world without the use of a mail server? (Perhaps there is a third party product or extended stored procedure that can give me this ability?)
Many thanks for any response.

Hi,
I have a table or two in a MS SQL DB. One table has a document name, when it was last uploaded and how often it should be looked at/reviewed.
e.g.
name.doc
01/09/2005
Weekly
1
fish.doc
01/08/2005
Daily
2
Each document is associated with a user (another table) so in the above example 1 and 2 refer to theprimary key of the 'admin' table to get a user.
I want to be able to automatically send an email to users notifying them to check their documents on whatever interval they have set.
I hope this make sense!

Hi. I found this article on 4GuysFromRolla (http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/tips/t051706-1.shtml) about sending an email when the database is updated. Well, I need to take this example a bit further. We are allowing people to enter their email address on our site to receive email updates on their case. I have all of that working in the database. But I don't know how to modify their example to loop through a listing of email addresses who want to receive an email when the case has been updated. Does anybody know how I can accomplish this? Thanks for all your help!
