Sequel 2005 Installation Perflib Problem
Apr 19, 2006
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to install SQL 2005 developers edition on my local PC and I get the following error during the System Configuration Check:
- Performance Monitor Counter Requirement (Error)
Messages
Performance Monitor Counter Requirement
The System Configuration Check for Performance Monitor counter registry value has failed. For details, see How to: Increment the Counter Registry Key for Setup in SQL Server 2005, in the readme file or in SQL Server Books Online.
I looked it up in MSDN and i'm having problems resolving the problem.
How to: Increment the Counter Registry Key for Setup in SQL Server 2005 says I should match the values of "Last Help" and "Last Counter" from these two nodes:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib 09]
However, my Perflib 09 is empty. And i've tried adding values to it but the problem presists.
Here are the values i have in my Perflib node:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib]
"Base Index"=dword:00000737
"ExtCounterTestLevel"=dword:00000004
"Last Counter"=dword:0000149c
"Last Help"=dword:0000149d
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib 09]
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

We are currently migrating our sequel 6.5 databases to sequel 2005
We have a handful of vb6 apps that connect to the current 6.5 database.
Can anyone recommend the "best practice" for connecting vb6 apps to sequel 2005 databases ?
Thanks in advance.

I'm in the middle of developing a Database for a hospital that measures its audits, inhouse operations, and finance. What we currently have and do everyday is collect data from a large database that is real time with patient data, progess, infomation, etc and dump it into a data warehouse that runs on TSI/Eclipsys. We run reports using a number of programs and dump it into Excel sheets that have charts, reports, etc. This Database for which I'm developing won't come soley from the TSI/Eclypsys source, but this is the only source thats updated regularly. I don't want to have in sync with TSI/Eclipysys in fear that every day when it updates data may be lost, not read, or worse won't be up date if there is a problem. My question is is it possible to run a query from Sequel Server 2005 that will take that data upon request using the reporing features on Sequel Server 2005. i.e. What if I need to run a report on measure B in department 12 from Jan 1-Feb 1, instead of being in sync, can I just write queries to take that information rather than double the data and take up twice the space and trouble. FYI, these datatypes rarely change in the TSI/Eclipsys data warehouse. This sure was long question and didn't intended it to be . Thanks for listening and hope to hear back.

I keep getting this error in my Event Log.
The Collect Procedure for the "DTSPipeliner" service in DLL "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinndtspipelineperf.dll" generated an exception or returned an invalid status. Performance data returned by counter DLL will be not be returned in Perf Data Block. The exception or status code returned is the first DWORD in the attached data.
I have tried to re-register this dll but the error is still there.
Any ideas????

Hello people,
i have 2 W2K3 Servers with an SQL 2005 enterprise Cluster. Everything is working fine. We set up a sitescope Server to monitor The SQLs. Everything fine for about 2 months.
But yesterday (nothing changed as i can remember) both SQL Servers get numbers fo Errors with ID 1023 from Perflib. Sitescope gets timeouts while checking VSQL resources, but after a refresh in Sitescope everything is fine again... Where does the 1023 come from and what can I do against it?
Greets,
Jörg Neumann

Hi...I just installed Sequel Server Express v5 and have a database and tables created. Now trying to create a DSN to connect to the database for my mail server. The mail server and sequel server reside on the same system (windows 2003 server).
I'm choosing a system dsn and have tried local with named pipes, the sequel server name with named pipes and the sequel server name using TCP/IP to connect - they all fail. Not sure what else to do...
Any help appreciated. THANKS!

Hi, We have recently upsized an access db to a sequel server db. The queries in access have been made into views in sql. ASP will be the front end. We are having problems passing an input from a form into a view. In access the parameter had to match what was selected on the form but sequel doesn't like it. At the moment, for testing purposes, the value has to be hard coded i.e. case_id = 64. Is there anything is ASP that can help? Thank you

I've written a Union query that joins 16 different tables. I need to somehow make this into a permanent view so that i can query directly from excel to extract specific data - i guess i can set up excel to pull straight from this view then ?
I'm used to running excel VB code to SQL via Access (linking access up) but want to cut out the middleman now.
Any ideas ?
An example of the Union Query i have built is below :
SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]
FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO Sweden$Vendor Ledger Entry]
WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%'
UNION
SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]
FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO Taiwan$Vendor Ledger Entry]
WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%'
UNION
SELECT[Vendor No_],[Posting Date],[Purchase (LCY)],[Buy-from Vendor No_],[External Document No_],[IC Partner Code]
FROM [NAV402].[dbo].[TESTCO US$Vendor Ledger Entry]
WHERE[Posting Date]>='20070701' AND [Vendor No_] LIKE 'ZX%';
Thanks for any help you can give me.

- I installed svr02 as member of Domain svc01 ... should I make svr02 a child Domain svr01?
- Currently, I cannot add any kind of data connection via Visual Studio..

Hi ,
I want to install a new SQL 2005 server. i looked on MSDN, it says to create one or more domain user accounts. That means to create a windows domain. Is it neccessary? All I want is a stand-alone SQL server. right now we are working with SQL 2000 and we want to build a new server with SQL 2005.
Please send me a short feedback.

Unfortunately for me, I am not a DBA - even though I have always filled that role where ever I have been. That being said, I have always been fortunate enough to have someone else more knowledgeable than I to perform the initial build of the SQL Servers I have used and managed. So, I have the following question...
I just finished installing and configuring a new dedicated SQL Server (it is nice too). One of the included discs it he MSDN Library. Do I need to install that too? Is there any reason to or not to install it? I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi,
SQL Server 2005 has been installed on windows server 2003 machine by the support team.
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00
Now this machine has been passed on to me to create databases, tables, etc...
On this server, I open the management studio and I get the connect to server windows.
What should the entries in the connect to server window be for me to get to the next stage where I can start building databases.
At present, I tried local or localhost and windows/sql authentication.
Still can not get to the management studio window.
Any thoughts please?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm trying to re-install the ms sql server 2005 but I keep getting the following message:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.
Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
------------------------------
This is my second time installing the ms sql server. I couldn't create a new database connection using odbc, I constantly got error messages so i decided to install it with windows and sql authentication (earlier i installed it only with windows authentication).
But I can't complete my installation.
Can some please help me with this.
Thank you!!

Dell pre-installed the OS on the 36GB drive. I was told to install SQL on the 73GB drives and the data (primarily TIFF images) on the 146GB. The server is a 64bit machine with Windows 2003 Server and 4GB of RAM. I was told to put the transaction logs on a different physical drive that the database to speed the writes. Is this a correct installation? Is there any information on a best practice installation? I have spent about 6 hours on MS and Google trying to find an answer. Thanks for any help you can give. Recap of Dell recommendation:
2 - 36GB Mirrored Drives = OS
2 - 73BG Mirrored Drives = SQL Server 2005
3 - 146GB RAID 5 Drives = Data (Images)
Is this correct?
Where should the Transaction Logs Be?
