Have Server2003 Enterprise running IIS6 and sql2005. Lease is up and have to migrate to new server. Any migration tools out there to make this easier? Saw one for exchange, 2000-2003, but not one to do the server2003-server2003 and/or IISy-IIS6 and SQL2005-SQL2005. Any pointers for assistance?

I devloped this app with vs2005 and SQL 2005 express, everything seems to work fine, when I deploied the app to my web server I got a few different error messages that I worked through but now stuck on this one. i am sure it is something with SQL 2005 server. is there anywhere that has a good check list for doing things right in asp and SQL deployment?

I have an application written in VB6 that creates a ADO connection using the (native SQL2005 clien)t from the client to SQLServer 2005 on Server 2003 configured as a stand alone server. The application works great on XP and has for a number of years.
Now I am attempting to deploy in Vista and using the same code the connection speed CRAWLS. it's in the magnitude of atleast 10 times slower. It eventualy works but the selects and doing a readnext against the resulting record set is at a snails pace.
What am I missing. It's has to be some sort of configuration problem somewhere.
I am in the process of moving a SQL2000 database to a SQL2005 database.
Porting from: SQL200, Windows Server 2000(SP4) (32 bit dual processor)
to:SQL2005, Windows Server 2003(SP1) (x64 bit dual processor)
After porting the database from SQL2000 to SQL2005 (no changes) running the same update statement from Management Studio on the 2003 Server and and Query analiser on the 2000 Server.
SQL2000 completes the command in 2 minutes SQL2005 is still running after 60 minutes.
SQL2000 is the live/production system with users connected, the SQL2005 is in a test environment with no other processors running.
When the problem first showed up the SQL2005 activity monitor displayed CXPACKET wait type on 2 processes with the same pid number. I now no longer have any wait type being displayed but my wait time is increasing rapidly. No block is reported.
I assume that I have an CXPACKET lock problem.
Am I correct that I have a CXPACKET problem and if so what is the resolution?

I'm trying to run a test from my test environment which is a non-domain Windows 2000 server to access my domain 2003 with SQL2005. I have install 2005 tools to try to access the SQL server.

Just installed a new version of SQL2005 on a brand new Application Server.
However, when i fired up Access 2003, it gives me some chaos about how Access isn't compatible with SQL2005. Fantastic lack of backward compatibility straight out the box.
Ok, so I do as it says and download all the updates.
Try again... Still won't allow me.
Wen't to Control Panel > Data Sources and confirmed the Native Client is in there. Added a System DSN for the new Server.
Tried Access again, still not working?? What the...
Why can't I create a new project in Access 2003, and edit it from my desktop instead of sitting on the server for every table modification? I hate designing tables on the SQL studio.
Any clues or help would be great. I'm just disappointed at the moment, on how this is holding up my database projects.

I have many problem when I try to install SQL 2005 Ets edition ia64 on a 2003 ets Itanium edition.
When I launch the setup, all is all right. But during the installation, it tryes to start MSSQL services.
The staring of this service failed. So I try to start the service mannually. Nothing.
Error messages I can get (in the event log) :

I am sure this is a common situation so there shouldn't be any problems ;-) I need to run a web server and a separate database server, but am having trouble working out what username I can use in my SQL database. Here is my setup:Web server: [Windows Server 2003, IIS6, ASP.NET 1.1] The anonymous web account for the website has been changed to one created by me, so I know the password - lets call it 'IUSR_ME'. Basides that it is all default. IIS_WPG has also been given access to all website files. Database Server: [Windows Server 2000, SQL Server Standard Edition] I already have a 'classic' ASP application running on this setup, and this was achieved by putting IUSR_ME as a user in the database. I found sql2005 Enterprise cannot be installed under Simplied Chinese win 2003, the only thing i suspect is that win2003 is an envaluation copy with netframework 2.0 be installed.

I just upgraded my SQL 2000 server to SQL2005. I forked out all that money, and now it takes 4~5 seconds for a webpage to load. You can see for yourself. It's pathetic. When I ran SQL2000, i was getting instant results on any webpage. I can't find any tool to optimize the tables or databases. And when I used caused SQL Server to use 100% cpu and 500+MB of ram. I can't have this.Can anyone give me some tips as to why SQL 2005 is so slow?

I am unable to install 32-bit SQL Server Integration Services on the server due to something that was left behind by the 64-bit version.
I've uninstalled SQL Server 2005 64-bit and when I try to install the 32-bit version of Integration Services, I get this error: "Failed to install and configure assemblies C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSTasksMicrosoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Now that I upgrade my website to sql2005, this vb dts package doesn't work.

SCSI disk array.Windows Enterprise 2003 x64 final release. SQL Server 2005 enterpriseCTP.Machine B: Opeteron 2.2 (248) w/ 2 CPUs. 4GB Memory. IDE Drives.Windows Server 2003 (32bit) and SQL Server 2005 (standard).I'm using Cognos' DecisionStream as the ETL tool (32bit). I have theidentical job on both machines. Machine A is slower to do my nightlybuild (1h 20m) vs. Machine B (50m).I've done no tweaking of the databases. I Used SQL 2005's studio tocopy the database from Machine B to Machine A.The only major difference is the O/S and SQL, the machines are samespeed, however Machine A has twice the memory and faster disk; so Iwould expect it to be faster.Can anyone think of smoking guns I might be missing?TIA

I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:

App Server:

Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server Configuration Manager reports SQL Server2005 services: SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) Running. This would indicate the name of the SQL server is "MSSQLSERVER" correct? I chose "default" instance during the install and that is the name it gave itself.
I tried connecting to the server using the following for the Server Name: MSSQLSERVER and .MSSQLSERVER neither works.
The only thing that works for my installation is just plain "." (no quotes) and nothing else. Can this be correct because I can't find any reference to this. Thanks.

We have a project already developed iusing VS 2003 Enterprise architect edition using sql server 2000(have lots of table and stored procs etc.)
Now planning to switch to Sql server 2005 are there any issues associated with the switch.
I mean front end programming wise asp.net and vb.net front end codes do they work straight away or need to make any changes to all the front end codes, we are using datasets, data readers calling stored procs and also using lot of hash tables and XML object to make bulk loads to sql server via sqlxml3.0 sp3.

Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it.
I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP):
These are two things that I need to facilitate:
1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs.
2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database.
3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this.
Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.
