Server Error In '/' Application. Database Cannot Be Upgraded Because It Is Read Only??
Dec 5, 2005
Server Error in '/' Application.
Database 'C:INETPUBDEMO.TRUTHSTONE.COMAPP_DATAASPNETDB.MDF' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
Hi,
Strange one. I have copied my working web-site to the production server and get this message.
Tried copying new set of database files and reset the server to ensure no applications could be accessing the database files. Still get the same error.
Works fine on my Visual Studio VWD Express version.
Mitch
PS I am not trying to upgrade the database, just use it!

In trying to upgrade my sql express install from express to developer edition, I ended up having to delete all things express from my computer and do a clean install of developer edition (as i installed developer edition initially over sql express but this didnt seem to work; express edition still appeared in add remove programs etc). Anyway so i blew away the install and have a clean install of developer edition. Now when I create a new website in Visual Studio 2005 and try to add a database to the project, it gives me an error stating that i need to have sql server express 2005 installed to function properly... Do i need to have express AND developer edition of sql installed to do this? I would think developer edition of sql would enable me this functionality...http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/4228/sqlerrorie2.jpgThanks!It is also worth noting that I get the dreaded remote connection error when trying to connect to a db that I used to be able to connect to when I was using sql express (the aspnetdb database that is created when you user their membership stuff)"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Hi,
I am trying to execute a SSIS package from a client through BIDS, but when I start BIDS, I am getting the error -
SqlWb.exe : Application error - The instruction at "0X77D...." referenced memory at "0X00000002". The memory could bot be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to terminate the program.
Please help.
Other information:
I have tried running the package on the server and it executes properly. I really dont know why this is a problem with the SQL Server clients alone. I have also tried googling around and could not find any resolution. Can anyone point me to the right direction please!!!
Thanks in advance!!!

Hello!
We just upgraded to SQL Server 2005 from SQL Server 2000. The DB was backed up using Enterprise Manager and restored with SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP. Everything went as expected (no errors, warnings, or any other indicator of problems).
The DB resides in a DB Server (Server1) and the application we are running is a Client/Server system where the AppServer resides on Server2.
During the application's operation all read, create, and delete transactions work fine but no update works. When viewing details in Trace Log I see this message after attempting any update:
Could not find server 'Server1' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers. (7202)
Any help is greatly appreciated,

Hi to all DBAs,
I would like to ask if there will be a write and concurrency issue if i would create an online application with just one user connecting to the database, just like most open source php/mysql that can be downloaded
i.e
Setup 1. I will grant a single user that will connect to a database and will be set to a config.inc.php file and then create a table users (userid, username, password) and this table will be used for the application authentication and access control.
Setup 2. or is it much better to grant users that will connect to the database and have the table users for access control of the application?
to further illustrate my query:
Setup 1 would be:
###################Table: Users
user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid mary --> myOnlineApp
user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid john --> myOnlineApp
user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid paul --> myOnlineApp
and Setup 2 would be:
#####################Table: Users
user mary@ipadd --> db1 --> userid mary --> myOnlineApp
user john@ipadd --> db1 --> userid john --> myOnlineApp
user paul@ipadd --> db1 --> userid paul --> myOnlineApp
will Setup 1 be enough if I will use SQL Server as database?
or Setup 2 is better user/database architecture?
This application will be online enrollment for a school with 16,000 students
very much appreciated for the feedbacks and suggestions
^_^x

I just did a 2005 "In-Place" upgrade to a 2000 server yesterday, and now we're getting intermittant time-out errors trying to connect via SQL Server Management Studio. Sometimes we connect instantly, then if I try again 10 minutes later, it might time-out. No problems with our other 4 SQL 2005 servers (2 were just upgraded, 2 are native 2005). No timeouts so far when logged on to the server directly, just when logging in from our desks.
It's set to TCPIP only (removed named pipes), but can't think what else might be the problem. Any ideas ?
One little thing I just noticed while comparing to another server: In the console, a "good" server has the little green arrow on the server & SQL Agent icons, while the "problem" server is connected, but there is no green arrow. If I log on the server directly and open SQL, I get the green arrows. Is that trying to tell me something about the connection ??

I am trying to implement a read only replica to move much of the data read for an application to the secondary replica. Initially I had the the primary and secondary set to asynchronous commit. QA brought up an issue with creating entities from the application because after the creation of an entity the application turns around and repopulates the entire aggregate object. Well it seems that the application was reading the secondary replica before the data had been committed. Although I understand the issues that synchronous commits can cause, I went ahead and made the change as I expected it to fix the issue. After changing the primary replica to synchronous we still had the error, so I also changed the secondary although that makes no since, but the issue remains.

My application supports a single database connection and in the app console I can produce reports. If I include the app database in an AlwaysOn availability group with a read-intent replica will SQL automatically route the “selects” to that second instance thus offloading my application’s reporting activities or I need a separate db connection (maybe from a reporting app or cli) with a connection specifying read-only intent?

What command(s) are needed to make these files read_write?

Hello all!
I have been researching this problem on the net. I have everything setup, here is the wierd part. I did a test windows application, and that application connects into my database just fine. I have SQL DEV 2005, everything is on my laptop. I have websites that I have wrote that connects fine.
I have application that give me this error. Now the only thing is that I wrote this windows app on a diffrent machine, with a diffrent SQL 2005 server. I had to move everything on my laptop, so I can finish on site at the clients place. So I grabbed the project, copied it over, and opened it on my laptop. No problems. I created a new database, scripted everything from the other server, and ran those scripts on my laptop to create the tables, SP etc.
Now my test application I created on my laptop, I can connect to the databse just fine with this string.
<add name="TestDataGrid.My.MySettings.TestConnectionString"
connectionString="Data Source=MKE01-2N92461;Initial Catalog=TestDB;Integrated Security=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I can also connect to the database that I brought over from the other server. Could there be somthing with the Datasets, or something like that?
Any Thoughts?
TIA!
Rudy

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

What am i missing here?
Ps Im new to ASP.

Both servers are SQL Server 2008 R2 and they are in the same LAN.
