Where To Get Sql Server Custom Connection Manager Sample.

Jan 28, 2008

Ok... so the microsoft documentation talks about the Sql Server Custom Connection Manager Sample all over the place. And I look to my machine after installing the samples and its not there. So I go to microsoft site and it says that the code samples are now hosted on this codeplex website. You follow the link and nothing is there for the sample. Can anyone show me exactly where I can get this sample? I find lots of people with issues trying to find and download it.. so I know i'm not the only one.

May 3, 2008

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. This works on  my pc, but throws an error on my lunarpage website.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,AJAn error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. SQL Server 2005 Remote Connection Failure

Jun 7, 2007

I'm having a big problem with a SQL 2K5 cluster (using standard edition). I can get onto the box and connect to the sql server locally fine. However when I try to connect remotely I get errors.

Let's call the two sides of the cluster, CL1 and CL2 and the "virtual server" is CL3. Locally I can connect without any problem at all to the SQL server, but I just can't connect to it from any remote machine.

The server in question is instance name LMS_PRD running on CL3, port 10051. TCP/IP is definitely enabled for local and remote connections (I have checked this in the SQL server surface area configuration). I can connect locally without any problem. Also, locally, if I do,

telnet CL3 10051

it connects fine

From a SQL 2000 box - when I try to connect from sql query analyzer, I get

"Unable to connect to server LMS_PRD Server Msg 17 ... SQL server does not exist or access denied"

Client network utility shows server alias - LMS_PRD, TCP/IP, CL3LMS_PRD,10051

[I can connect to other SQL 2005 servers OK from this same server using this same method]

On this box, when I do telnet CL3 10051 , I get "Connecting to CL3...Could not open a connection to host on port 10051 : Connect failed"

[When I do a similar one for another SQL 2005 box, "telnet U01 10051", it connects fine]

From another SQL 2005 box - when I try to register the server, I get

"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP provider, error 0 - No connection could be made because thew target machine actively refused it.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10061)"

IN the SQL native client configuration it shows alias name - CL3LMS_PRD, server=CL3LMS_PRD, protocol tcp, parameters 10051

Again if I do telnet CL3 10051, I get the error above.

From this same box I can register another SQL 2005 server without any problem and do the telnet to it OK

Just to emphasise:

(a) The SQL server configuration manager shows that TCP/IP is enabled, and that 10051 is the port (in IPALL, TCP port). Also I have checked the SQL server errorlog - it is definitely using 10051 as the port.

(b) The SQL server surface area configuration shows under local and remote connections using both TCP/IP and named pipes selected (I've tried both this and the using tcp/ip only option)

(c) SQL server browser is running

(d) There are NO firewalls etc involved

Any help or advice MUCH appreciated

Any thoughts anyone?

SQL Server 2005 Instance Connection Failure

May 18, 2007

This has me totally baffled. I have a default instance of SQL Server 2005 on a server and I installed a second instance on the same server. It worked fine until I rebooted the server. Now I cannot connect to the second instance. The error message mentions remote connections but I'm not trying to connect to the instance remotely. The entire error message is below. Has anyone come across this?

An Error Has Occurred While Establishing A Connection To The Server. When Connecting To SQL Server 2005, This Failure May Be Caused By The Fact That Under The Default Settings SQL Server Does Not Allow Remote Connections.

Jan 22, 2008

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277  I am supposed to:

1.
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder.  The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this:  All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication.  I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

Failure Sending Mail: The Transport Lost Its Connection To The Server

May 12, 2006

More and more often, I am seeing this error message in RS subscriptions. I would assume it means the IIS server can't connect to the corporate exchange server. However I was wondering if there is some timeout setting/configuration in RS or the IIS server (or any other kind of setting) I can change to help alleviate this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how to fix it?

Thanks,

Jeff

UPDATE: After looking closer at the subscriptions, I have noticed that subscriptions set up by a RS Admin (who is also a server admin) seem to be working fine. It is the subscriptions that are set up by ordinary users that are failing...

Dec 10, 2007

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it.  Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error.  Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing.  I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do.  I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled.  I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss.  I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error.  I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

ASP.net Page Connection To SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Failure (across Domains/networks)

Oct 4, 2007

Hi all,
I have a production website at Godaddy and an ASP.net 2.0 page that successfull connects to a SQL 2005 instance provided by Godaddy using SQL authentication(User ID/Password). The Godaddy database has become too small (200MB limit) and the plan is to use the SQL Server 2005 standard edition at my office. In other words, I want to host my own SQL server and keep the front-end at Godaddy.
The ASP.net test page at Godaddy generates the basic connection errors when attempting to connect to my SQL server at the office. This error has several variations depending on how the connection string is configured:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)
In this case the connection string is:
Data Source=xxx.xxx.xx.xxx,1433; Network Library=DBMSSOCN; Initial Catalog=Test; User ID=xxx; Password=xxx"
I've embedded this connection string directly into the ASP.net test page in order to make this page independent of the web.config file.
My MS SQL server is on a Small Bussiness Server 2003 with Sharepoint and Remote Workplace running, and this machine is behind a linksys router, and Routing and Remote Access is running in place of windows firewall.
I've openned ports TCP 1433 and UDP 1434 on the router and Routing and Remote Access. Telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx 1433 connects successfull, and the SQL log shows listening on 1433. I don't know if telnet is telling me that there is successful connection to the port on the router, or if it makes it all the way to the SQL server.
The SQL server is running the default instance MSSQLSERVER. Locally, I am able to connect using SQL 2005 Studio, and I am able to confirm this activity in the SQL log. Since I've openned port 1433, I also see numerous dictionary attacks in the SQL Log. Based on this, remote connectivity is there.
The strange observation is that the SQL log shows no sign of a connection attempt from the ASP.net page. The connection appears to be failing before it reaches the SQL server. I've openned ports in the Linksys router and the NAT/Firewall the same way I've openned them for Sharepoint and Remote Workplace.
I also found that when I move the ASP.net test page to another ISP, then the SQL connection that worked from the Godaddy website, is no longer able to connect. An explanation of this would also be very helpful to me.
Is there something that needs to be configured to expose the SQL server to ASP.net pages that is different from remote access?
Does IIS need to somehow be involved?
Is there something in Small Business Server 2003 that could be interferring with ASP.net page requests to the SQL server?
Do I need to run my machine as a web server to make this work?
Any help with this configuration would be greatly appreciated.

Inconsistent OLE DB Failure When Running SSIS Packages

Jan 24, 2007

I have a series of SSIS packages which populate 12 different databases. Which data source & target they use is controlled by values passed down from the SQL Agent Scheduler Job Step using "Set Values"

These values are passed to Variables which are used in the Expressions in the connection manager for the database to change the connection string and initial catalog.

e.g. REPLACE( @[User::ConString] , "Royalty", @[User::RoyDb] )

These jobs run successfully the majority of the time but each day I get a significant number of failures where one or more target or error trapping table cant be found. They are all using the same connection manager and most of the tables in the database get updated correctly but the job fails on trying to access one or two of the tables, with the following message in the On Error event:

-1071636248,0x,Opening a rowset for "[dbo].[RIGDUE_DAY]" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.

This happens both when I schedule the jobs in parallel with other jobs running the same packages & when I run the job by itself using the right click, start at step option. e.g.

I had one fail last night, I ran it by itself this morning, it failed, I ran it again, it succeeded. Nothing concerning the data it was transforming had changed.

I have applied the hotfix to service pack one concerning the paralel use of variables in a package as referred to in the following link.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918091#appliesto

Any ideas welcome

Communication Link Failure Error When Running A Distributed Query

Apr 12, 2007

Hello

TestMachine1 runs SQL2005 SP2 and has as linked server myRemoteServer (SQL2000) server. I run an stored procedure in TestMachine1 which inserts about 20,000 rows to a table in myRemoteServer and brings back a similar quantity of rows. This stored procedures take about 1.5min to complete, but no error appears.

When running the same stored procedure in TestMachine2 (also SQL2005SP2), the following error appears after about 1 minute of execution (not the exact text):

SQLNCli. TCP Provider: network name is no longer available - communication link failure.

Please note that this stored procedure worked before on TestMachine2 (but with less than 10,000 rows) and that connectivity is proven among TestMachine1 and myRemoteServer, since I can execute "select * from synonym_MyRemoteTable" with no problems at all in the TestMachine2's Management Studio.

TestMachine1 and TestMachine2 have Windows XP Professional SP2; myRemoteServer has Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000 SP4.

Can you please help me to avoid this error?

Failure Writing Properties Running SSIS Package From A Web Service

Mar 2, 2007

I am attempting to run an SSIS package from a web service. Right now both the service and package are on my local machine which is running XP. I have accessed the web service from a client application in debug mode. I am not sure if it is actually running under aspnet_wp.exe because it is XP and a development environment? (separate question)??? The package fails with a series of OnError messages similar to:

The result of the expression ""/c DEL /F /Q "" + @DeployFolder + "\catalog.diff.lz""" on property "Arguments" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property.

An initial supposition is that the permissions of the web service are inadequate for the package. I have the authentication as "Windows" and <identity impersonate="true" /> in the Web.Config file. When I break in the debugger the Environment.UserName and Environment.UserDomainName are mine and I am an Admin on the box.
the authorization is 'deny users="?".

The article that describes basic implementation of this in a Web Service states:

With its default settings for authentication and authorization, a Web
service generally does not have sufficient permissions to access SQL
Server or the file system to load and execute packages. You may have to
assign appropriate permissions to the Web service by configuring its
authentication and authorization settings in the web.config
file and assigning database and file system permissions as appropriate.
A complete discussion of Web, database, and file system permissions is
beyond the scope of this topic.

And how!

Note that the load is fine and that this is a run time error and that the package runs correctly when run manually from SQL Server using the 'run package' menu item in the Object Explorer tree of the SQL Server Management Console.

I need to know if this is an ASP.NET issue per se or XP or if this is even a security issue. And how to solve it! This is critical path so an expeditious reply with a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Connection String For Default Instance Of SQL Server 2005, On A Box Also Running A Named Instance Of SQL Server 2000

Nov 15, 2007

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.
 I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
However,  I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but this doesn't work either.

Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated
Thanks...

Failure In Connection To SQLserver2000

May 12, 2004

hi all,
my problem is failure in the connection to SQLserver2000 remotly( to city a) by enterprise manager or query analyzer via windows authentication ( this error appears "login failed for (domain/user)" ),while no problems happened in the connection when i would to connect to other servers at other locations(to cities b,c) via windows authentication.

note that i can access to (city a)server via sql server authentication , but i want to access to this server(city a) via windows authenication as the other locations because this authentication mode is policy of our system, and note also that persons in city b can access to all servers (city a,c) via windows authenication .

Offisite DB Connection Failure

Dec 18, 2006

I am trying to write a simple program for test purpose with VB .Net 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005. My server is not even in the same state as me, but I have the following on the server:

Server 2003 Web Edition SP1
SQL Server Express 2005

I am writing in the following:
Visual Basic 2005 Pro Edition

I have read where you can setup Express to allow TCP/IP connection, and I have done what it stated HERE (http://www.datamasker.com/SSE2005_NetworkCfg.htm). However, I am still not able to connect to the DB on the remote server.

I go to:
Tools --> Connect to Server --> Type IP and get the connection failed to connec to server "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
I even tried:
Tools --> Connect to Server --> Type IPSQLEXPRESS and get the connection failed to connec to server "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

Has anyone been able to do this, or am I wasting my time? If I can get the SQL Server to do as requested then I am going to purchase and work with it, however, I want to test out before I spend the $$$$$ to begin the full project. If anyone can be of assistance here I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.
