I'm trying to figure out if I can use express edition for service broker. Documentation says it can be used as Subscriber only -- but what does that mean? Can it only be a target for service broker messages? Or can it send messages as well as long as the other end of the conversation is a licensed server?

But the sitation is the initator service broker (in fact, the message is sent from triggers) become hang, I want to prevent this case and continue to operation, and the messages should queue and will continue to send to target service broker when it startup. we're a little confused, we understand that between instances of sql express that a licensed edition would be necessary for service broker to be used but what if there is just one sql express edition/instance in the picture, does service broker come with express and can most of service broker's features be used "intra" (inside) that instance?

I am struggling with the position SSB could take in an SOA. If I would want a broker in the general sense, meaning an intermediary sitting between applications which exchange information through messaging, would SSB be a good candidate? I know Biztalk is probably the primary candidate, but in my scenario I would end up with Biztalk apps with empty orchestrations. Also, I think Biztalk is more expensive to manage. So I am looking for a lightweight broker for a simple SOA targeted at application interoperability, no fancy business processes in sight.

I installed SQL Server Express on my local pc using the default settings. I also have SQL Server 2005 installed on the same machine. With the SQL Browser service running, I am unable to connect to the SQL Server Express database.
I receive error: Cannot connect to MyComputerNameSQLEXPRESS.
Additional information: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to the SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
Any ideas why I'd be receiving an error about remote connections when the connection I'm trying to make is local? - Incidentally, I have configured the SQL 2005 Server to have TCP enabled, Named Pipes enabled, and Shared enabled.

I downloaded Web Matrix. Very nice. My VB experience makes this very intuitive. But I see in order to do dB development, I also need to download MS SQL, which is labeled MSDE in as step 3 in the Web Matrix download operation. As I follow the link forward I see that there are three distinct components:
Sql2kasp3.exe
Sql2kdesksp3.exe
Sql2ksp3.exe
Are all three of these required?
Also I see there is a beta version of the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition: http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/sql/ here. Would this be a viable alternative.
Hi there. I am new to the SQL Express. I just finished installing the SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a Windows XP SP2 computer. The first thing I noticed was the service manager (used to be on the taskbar) was being removed on the Express Edition. How do I get this feature back if it's even possible? I know you can find out the server status from the Configuration Manager but it's handy if the status is showned on the taskbar after logging in.

I have made my website using SQL Server Express edition. It is totally database driven and manypages use databases to display data. My problem is that after paying for webhosting fees my web host told me that they do not support SQL Server express edition. Instead they have support for MySQL and Ms Access. Except that there is this MS 2000 Database service for an additional cost. Any recommendations what I should do except changing the host? If I pay for MS 2000 Database servicem, will my website work? My user management(i.e ASPNETDB database) was created by Visual Web developer and I don't want to do user management myself. Any advice?

I am trying to send a message between to SQL Server 2005 instances on two different machines. I have checked all my routes and all my objects appear to be setup correctly. When updating automaticallly, this update always fail, I have put the configuration manager /server browser : the only one that was disabled, on manual (I have not the automatic option for this one) but nothing works, what can I do ? I am doing some research to see if the Service Broker technology would help my company with our Enterprise application. Here is our scenario: We have a 3 tier system. The first tier needs to contact the second tier asynchronously. Hence, using queues is a good option. However, the process that needs to happen on the second tier is mostly process intensive with little database updates. Is it still worth our time to use Service Broker?
I like the concept of Activation that Service Broker provides. But, from what I am reading most of the documentation describes activation as a way to call another stored proc. I definitely dont' want to do any process intensive work on the SQL server. So here comes my question...
How would I use a windows service to listen to the activation event from the Service Broker. I could have multiple windows services watching the same queue (scalable). Would I have to handle collisions myself? If so, I think I would rather keep it simple, and just use a simple table as my queue.

Hello , I am trying to Implement distribution of the Stock Quotes over the LAN(only within the Network) and showing the live changing stock Quotes on the front end (in datagrid) installed at each clients desktop.I am receiving the Stock prices over the TCP / IP from the Stock Exchange. I am recieving atleast 10-15 messages per second over the TCP / IP from the Stock Exchange. Now i need to distribute this feed to Each connected client.
I tried doing it from TCP / IP , but in vein. Can we install the SQL 2005 Database Client Version on every client and use Service broker instaed of Live TCP / IP connections programmatically?
Ideally Can i dump the meesages from Stock Exchange in to each connected client's database locally and each front end application will keep a record of all the incomming messages.i.e Front end have a notification event , it will referesh the Datagrid in Front end accordingly...
ALL my front end application are made in dot net

I am looking at the Service Broker as a way to notify multiple clients that there has been data changed on a table in the shared database. These clients may or may not be online. When there is a change, the notification should fire off a query to refresh the clients local cache. Is this a situation where Service Broker would help me? Can multiple clients recieve the notification at different times ( some recieve while online, some recieve when they come back online)? Any help on this would be appreciated. It seems from what I read that the messages are pulled off the queue when a notification has taken place. Is this correct? If so, can I set it to behave differently?
