Application: VB.net 2005/ ASP.net
Database: Sql Server 2005 with four tables
I need to set the userid and password on the database. How do I do that?
I want to be able to create a SQL connection object in my code and I have something like the following:
<CODE>
Dim objcon As New SqlConnection("server=serverName;uid=;pwd=;database=SomeDatabase")
</CODE>
but the "uid" and the "pwd" are not set on my database. what is an easy way to do this? thanks
Hi,
I am using the sql server for creating the database. I want to create the database which is having userid and password. This I require since I wanted to restrict acces to database and also only authorise user to database can use the userid and password created at time of creation of database.
So how can I create the database which is having userid and password?
My PC is Window XP Pro and I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.
My question is how to create a login userid and password under "SQL Server Authentication"? (as shown in http://www.findingsteve.net/print_screen.jpg)
Any tutorial about this I can read?
I use DTSRun /Uuserid /Ppassword /Sservername .... in a batch process.
I always get the error message to run with a trusted connection. I can run the same batch process from a command line under my own domain id and it runs as if it had a trusted connection.
Will DTSRun run only with a trusted connection? Do I need to set something in the package to get SQL Server to run with a userid and password? Why does it always default to using a trusted connection. I need to know what I have to set to tell it that I am using a userid and password. I have included an example of how it's coded in the BAT file.
Example:
DTSRun /S"myserver" /Umyuser /Pmypass /N"Load_Data" /L "c:mylogsLoad_Data.log" /W"0"
When I tried to browse the reportserver url. The IE 7.0 asks me for Username and password. I feel, its some settings related to security. But other sites created are working fine. The virtual directories created using Repoting services configuration manager only ask me username and password.
Any suggestions.
Murali.
Hi All,
While deploying reports on the reports server, it is asking to supply user name and password. When I entered the same, it didn't accept them. What do I need to do? Is there any specific setting which I need to configure?
An immediate reply will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Is there any way in SQL Server 2000 to configure password rules for SQL server logins, e.g. minimum password length, complexity etc?
Thanks!
In SQL Server 2000, can you enable an option to check password retries? For example if an SQL Server ID logs incorrectly 5 times, you disable the login account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What is best way to encrypt password field in sql server 2000?.
Is there any system stored procedure to encrypt password?.
What kind of algorithm password encryption method uses?.
Hi all,
Are there any built-ins, utilities, ... within sql server 2000 that can be used to enforce password complexity in the database. i.e at least 8 characteres, upper and lowercase mix, includes at least on number and one punctuation (underscore,...).
I understand that this requirement can be achieved using windows authentication. Unfortunately we do not have that luxury (at the moment).

I 'completed' a DTS package which uses a file on a non-SQL server. I am about to put this into production, so it runs automatically each evening. but just realized that it won't work unless it signs onto the source file's Windows 2000 server. It works for me when I'm testing it because I am always logged on the the Windows 2000 server.
I have been trying to figure out which DTS task I need to use to establish a connection by embedding my UserName and Password. Any tips woud be apprecitaed.
Thanks,
Randy

Is it possible to change the data type of the UserID column in the aspnetdb database from uniqueidentifier to int?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my site, when a user registers, I need to create rows in additional tables besides aspnet_Users. So, I need to be able to pass the generated userId guid to subsequent SqlCommands. I'm having a terrible time with this. What's the correct way to set up a SqlParameter so that it will accept a guid? I keep getting this error: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
I've tried creating the parameter both with and without a SqlDbType.
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(paramName, guid);
and
SqlParameter p = new SqlParameter(paramName);p.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Guid;cmd.Parameters.Add(p);
and I get the same error either way.
Driving me nuts! Any help appreciated.

Hi, I'm using the SQL Server Everywhere CTP on the desktop and haven't used SQL Server Mobile in the past.
I'm having some difficulty determining whether it's possible to change a SQL Server Everywhere database's password. Obviously authentication on a file-based SQL Server Everywhere database differs from that of server-based SQL Server database. Is it possible to change a SQL Server Everywhere database's password?
That said, I feel like I've made a decent search of the to change a SQL Server Everywhere books online. If it's not possible to change the password in place (i.e., without copying all data to a new file with a different password), please count this as a vote to add that functionality. Making a database password "permanent" lessens its effectiveness. Thanks,
Curt
Hi all,
I want to select last but one row in a table. I shouldn't use pk_id of the table ,because the entries in a table are jumbled.
I want the last but one row that as entered.
Thanks in advance

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.
I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.
This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..
The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
and I get
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF
although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.
Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?
Thank you
I am writing a VBscript which takes my machine details and put in the SQL database.
But after executing the script , i got the following error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
I dont remember the password I have given during installation.
Please tell me how to get the password of sql server.
Hi All,
I want to include a column to my report. The column name is Payment Due date. Payment due date is 05th of the each month. There is no field in data base tables called payment due date. Can anyone help me how to write the code to get pay ment due date for different customers.
As a example
Payment Due date can be 01/05/07 or 12/05/06 or 03/05/07. But its always 5th of each month.
Thanks
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me as this is a bit of a puzzle.
I have created a database using a password, the create table scripts are executed successfully using the connection string however when I try and use the same connection string to insert some data into the database an error is produced, with the following message 'The specified password does not match the database password'.
I have opened the database using the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio and provide the password and I can access the database without a problem.
When the connection object is first instantiated all the Connection String property, the connStr variable and the modifiedConnStr are all correct (by this I mean that the data source and the password are present). However when the connection object is accessed again the Connection String property and the connStr variable are both set incorrectly (by this I mean that the password= section of the string is missing) however the modifiedConnStr is set correctly (by this I mean that the password= section is present in the string).
The connection object does not get set in between creating and accessing the connection object.
I have resorted to using no password, however I really need to be able to use a password.
Here is a copy of the connection string I am using (Copied directly from the quick watch window):
"Data Source = '\Program Files\Application\DataBase\MyDatabase.sdf'; password="Pa55word";"
I am sorry this a little long winded however I would like to provide as much information as possible. I hope someone can help me with this problem.
Thank you for reading.

I am using SqlServer 2000 with asp.net 2.0, I have a table tbl_employees, with fields (empId, empName, empManagerId), with following data...

Now the question is that what should be the single line query or best solution if i want to get all employess under a perticular manager ?For example; Employees under 'A' are (B,C,D,E) //(C,D,E are also indirectly under A)Emplloyess under 'B' are (C,D & E; E is also under B as his because his managwer 'D' is himself under 'B')
Please advise..Thanks alot.

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. The install stalls permanently, the SQL Server's memeory usage and CPU usage plummets to nothing and the SQL Server 2005 Setup Dialogue's status stops at "Validating Database Password." This occurs on the SQL Server Database Services portion of the install. The last line in the SQL Server Setup.log says "<Func Name = 'SAPaswwordPolicyCheck'>
I have verified that the sa password that I am entering when prompted for it in the install setup is valid with respect to SQL Server and Windows Server 2003 SP 1 (13 chars, at least one symbol, at least one upper and at least one lower). What else could be causing this problem? Any ideas or stabs would be greatly appreciated.

Just like with Access DB, can we set password for database in SQL Server 2005 Express ?
Reason to do so is, user with Login having sysadmin previliage can acess all databases in SQL server.
so just want to restrict database access to only those users who knows the password.
Is there any possible solution ? Pls comment.
Thanks.
I have 2 databases: one for our intranet & another for our internet website. In the intranet database, we have a table called "Clients". A new client can be added in one of 2 ways:
1) One of our employees manually adds the client via the intranet
2) A new customer subscribes to our services via our website, thus becoming a new "client" (when subscribing online, we also add a record to an "Accounts" table located in our internet website database, but we'd also like to add a record to our intranet's Clients table as well).
In the client table is a field called "CreatedBy" which expects the UserId of whoever created the account. Again, this UserId can belong to either an employee via the intranet or a new customer via our internet website. how do I distinguish where the UserId in the dbo.Clients.CreatedBy field is coming from?
My 1st thought was to append a negative to the CreatedBy UserId# if it came from a customer via the website, but that just seemed too quirky (i.e. if an employee added a client and his UserId was '10', the Clients.CreatedBy would be '10'. If a customer subscribed via the website, the Clients.CreatedBy would be '-10'. Where customers can once again sign up online. So, I need a way to keep these databases separate but keep track of which db a user's coming from when we create a new Client record.
