Setting Dates.
May 20, 2008
An easy one for you.
I want to be able to insert a payment date for invoices to be paid. Currently the system is just adding 30 to the invoice date and then paying everything prior to the current date.
However I need it to be able to say that every invoice will be paid on the 10th or 25th of the month depending on the date of the date of the invoice. I know that this one is easy but I am having a complete brain block.
Not that it matters but there are 750,000 rows. Covering the next 2 years.
Many thanks

Thought I'd help some folks with rs and dates..
here is some scalar valued functions:
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_date_only] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, GetDate()), 0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(ms, -3, dateadd (m,datediff(m,0,
dateadd(m,1,@date)),0))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(m,datediff(m,0, @date),0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(ms, -3, datediff(d,0,dateadd(d,1,@today)))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(hh, 12, DATEADD(d,DATEDIFF(d,0, @date),0))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(day, 0, datediff(d,0,@today))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_tomorrow_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(hh, 12, DATEADD(d,DATEDIFF(d,-1, @date),0))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,7-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(ms, -3,
dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,7-datepart(weekday, @date),@date)),0) )
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,1-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,1-datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1,0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_end] (@weekday tinyint,
@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-
datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(ms, -3,
dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-datepart(weekday, @date),
@date)),0) )
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_start] (@weekday tinyint,
@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-
datepart(weekday, @date),@date))-1900, 0)
+ dateadd(dy, datepart(dy,
dateadd(weekday,@weekday-datepart(weekday, @date),
@date))-1,0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_year_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(year,DATEDIFF(year,0, @date),0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(ms, -3, datediff(d,0,@today))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, -1, datediff(d,0,@today))
END
Then create a Table-Valued Function like so:
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udfCommonDates] (@date datetime)
RETURNS @t table (week_start datetime,
week_end datetime,
lastweek_start datetime,
lastweek_end datetime,
month_start datetime,
month_end datetime,
lastmonth_start datetime,
lastmonth_end datetime,
yesterday_start datetime,
yesterday_end datetime,
today_start datetime,
today_end datetime,
thisweek_monday_start datetime,
thisweek_monday_end datetime,
year_start datetime,
year_end datetime,
tomorrow_noon datetime,
today_noon datetime,
date_only datetime)
BEGIN
INSERT @t
SELECT
dbo.get_week_start ( @date ) AS week_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( @date ) AS week_end,
dbo.get_week_start ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_end,
dbo.get_month_start( @date ) AS month_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( @date ) AS month_end,
dbo.get_month_start ( DATEADD(m,-1, @date) ) AS lastmonth_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( DATEADD(m,-1,@date) ) AS lastmonth_end,
dbo.get_yesterday_start ( @date ) AS yesterday_start,
dbo.get_yesterday_end ( @date ) AS yesterday_end,
dbo.get_today_start (@date) AS today_start,
dbo.get_today_end ( @date ) AS today_end,
dbo.get_weekday_start(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_start,
dbo.get_weekday_end(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_end,
dbo.get_year_start(@date) AS year_start,
dbo.get_year_end(@date) AS year_end,
dbo.get_tomorrow_noon(@date) AS TomorrowNoon,
dbo.get_today_noon(@date) AS TodayNoon,
dbo.get_date_only(@date) AS DateOnly
RETURN
END
Now the RS folks might be thinking but how does this help me as I need a dataset and a dataset can only be based on a Stored Procedure or a direct table. No problem create the following stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspCommonDates] AS
begin
set datefirst 1
declare @date datetime
set @date = getdate()
select * from dbo.udfCommonDates(@date)
end
Now you've got a stored procedure to use as a dataset...Now in reporting services add a new dataset:
Now go to the report parameters section of the report:
Now pick that dataset dsFunctions (or whatever you called it) and then pick any of the value fields from the scalar functions such as:
Now when you run the report it uses the scalars:
If you have questions feel free to ask :).
Hope this helps someone

This may be a very easy question to answer, but I cannot figure out the answer for the life of me. I have set up a simple SSIS project based on a template that gathers information from several servers. I would like for this package to be almost completely automated and run nightly. Is there a setting I can add to make it run everyday?

Hi,
I have a table which records employees'time-off records. There are 6 columns in this TimeOff table. They are RequestID, EmpName, StartDate, EndDate, Type, NumofDays. I have another table which has all the dates from 01/01/1950 to 01/01/2056.
I am trying write a query which lists all the dates between the timeoff startdate and enddate, including the the start and end dates, but my query so far only lists the start and end date in a timeoff record:
SELECT D.[Date], Datename(dw,D.[Date]) AS Weekday
FROM Dates D LEFT JOIN TimeOff T ON D.[Date] = T.OffStartDate OR D.[Date] = T.OffEndDate
WHERE (OffType = 'Sick Day' AND EmpName = 'Cat White') AND (D.[Date] BETWEEN T.StartDate AND T.EndDate)
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone ever written a function to retrieve all individual dates between two given dates? Using DATEDIFF I can get the number of days between two dates. However I need to iterate through the days to identify weekend and holiday dates. Has anyone ever written a function to do this?
So, if select datediff(d,'07/01/2007','07/15/2007') as NumOfDays returns 14, I'd need to iterate through the 14 days and get the weekends and holidays. Would I have to use a cursor to iterate through the days?

In my ASP.NET app, I'm executing a stored procedure via a SQLCommand the searches a customer database. I believe the default timeout is 90 seconds. I'm curious of what happens to the SQL Server Stored Procedure after timing out from the ASP.NET application. Does it timeout at the same time or do you have to set up a value in SQL Server?

I.e say the parameters passed are 01/2001 hence based on this all of the month of January 2001 dates are inserted into a table in this format : 'Jan 01 2001 12:00:00'

OK, so I can return (& therefore use) the last day of last month using
select (GETDATE()- DATEPART ( dd , GETDATE()))
Which returns 31-03-2004 (dd-mm-yyyy)
Has anyone a good way of determining a way of deriving say a date such as 01-01-2004 (1st Jan)....
I'd like to get some data where my dmd.sdate falls always in the previous quarter.. but would like it to be not hard coded...
Currently I have
SELECT cust.no,
cust.surname,
dmd.csan,
dmd.sdate
FROM pdunity.dbo.cust cust,
pdunity.dbo.dmd dmd
WHERE cust.rowno = dmd.rowno_custdmd_cust
AND(dmd.sdate
BETWEEN '01/01/2004'
AND(GETDATE()- DATEPART ( dd , GETDATE())))
ORDER by dmd.sdate asc
Is there some form of function I can use to return 01/01/2004 automatically ?

Hi All
I have a table which contains apart from other fields, 2 dates. i.e. startdate and enddate.
The startdate is always less than / equal to enddate.
I want to write a stored proc where I will give a date as a parameter and it should give me all the records there my date is between the startdate and the enddate.
Also I want to create a temp table in the procedure and the table gets populated with all the dates that comes between startdate and enddate, both dates inclusive.
I know this might be a tall order, but I am new to writing stored procedure, so I will be obliged if somebody can help me out

To support an application, I am integrating it with with Sqlserver2000. The task is simple: get the data at regular intervals, andwrite it into a table dedicated for that application. One of thefields I receive is a date, and it is formatted as an ISO date. Asample value looks like this: "2004-07-09-15.37.52.077258".SQLServer doesn't support this date format, though. The closest Ihave found is the style code "21" or "121" which accepts input as"yyyy-mm-dd hh:mi:ss.mmm". I have looked at using several replace()and convert() calls but no solution yet.Is there a way to transform the data to conform to this style acceptedby Sqlserver? I would like to do this in the INSERT statement itselfand not have to code application logic (i.e., user-defined function,etc.) for it.

Hi. I hope this is the write place to post this, I hope it is.
basically, I want to be able to return me a query of giving me available dates in a table.
What I mean is that, if I have a table with fields including start date and end date, I want to return me the dates which are NOT listed/stored in the table.
kind of like a booking system, where you store the room reservation dates and obviously you don't want to double book that room, so I would like all the available dates to be returned back.
is this possible? how can I go about doing this?
Thanks!

I get no records when I know they are there - do I have to put in additional checks to cater for the time component of the column?

If you have a SQL server setup that isn’t using a SAN but just a normal raid array and you wanted to utilize a SAN now.
What are the steps, I'm guessing that you will need to start the services under a domain user correct?
Is it as easy as detaching the DB and then reattaching the DB on the SAN?
I'm assuming you need to map the data and log arrays from the server to the SAN correct?
I can’t seem to find any documentation on moving a server to a new SAN. Can someone post links if you have them?
Do you need ENT edition or is Standard OK .
Thanks for your help.

Hi
I'm trying to set up a new job to update a field in the table, I've managed to get the select syntax to work, but when I added an IF statement and Update syntax it didn't like it and the following error was shown:-
Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 9
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'BEGIN'.
This is the syntax I'm trying to use for the job:-
USE EmployerEngagement
IF (SELECT On_Stop
FROM tblEmployer LEFT OUTER JOIN tblWP_Details
ON tblEmployer.Emp_ID = tblWP_Details.Emp_ID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblVetting
ON tblWP_Details.Record_ID = tblVetting.Record_ID
WHERE tblEmployer.On_Stop = 0
AND tblVetting.Next_Vett_Date <= GETDATE())
BEGIN
UPDATE tblEmployer
SET On_Stop = 1
END
Basically I just want to change the On_Stop value from 0 to 1 if the Next_Vett_Date is before or on todays date.
Am I using the wrong syntax for this?
Thanks
