Setting Variable Parameters In A SSRS Subscription
Nov 7, 2007
I would like to set up a subscription that has two date parameters, I would like the end_date to be today and the start_date to be (today - 1 Month). The interface does not seem to support expressions?
I saw some documentation that said to use defaults in the report but that does not help because I may want multiple subscriptions with different params like 1 person may want (today - 2 months) as the start date ...
I have an SSRS report with parameters for Created On Start and Created On End. Users run this manually and choose the date range to display records for.
I would like to set up two different subscriptions
1) to send weekly on Monday morning for "last weeks" records and 2) to send monthly to send "last month's" records.
I want to create some links in Sharepoint that will take me directly to a report, display it within the SharePoint full page report viewer and set some parameter values along the way.
Hoping someone may be able to help with a problem I'm having with SSRS parameters....
My report has 2 parameters - the User Id used to login to the application and the Department(s) within the organisation. Based upon the User's role, the user may have access to data for one or many Departments.
Thus, the first parameter needs to be set in code based upon the User's login, however, the range of the second parameter (i.e. the range of Departments that the user can access) is controlled by the value of the first parameter.
The second parameter is to appear as a drop-down of Departments to which the User has access.
The report is to be produced for the selected Department.
Are you able to advise how to restrict the range of values for the second parameter based upon the value of the first parameter?
It seems to me that if a scheduled SSRS report subscription fails ( Status Message - An error has occurred during report processing) , that I actually need to delete the subscription and reconfigure it from scratch. The scheduled job doesn't try to run again automatically (say the next Monday on a weekly Monday schedule).
Is there a way to "reset" a failed subscription without have to recreate the entire subscription?
I am working on settin up a subscription to a publication that i made of the AW database. when running the subscription wizard i get an error on the sycronization of data part. the error states "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed HRESULT 0x80072EE7(28037)" i have the URL on the Web Server Authentication page of the wizard set to http://localhost. can anyone help me out on this one?
I have several data driven subscriptions successfully running on my server, but have been having problems setting up a standard subscription. The subscription appears to be successfully created in the Reports Manager interface, I can see the schedule job set up in SQL Server, and in the job history the subscription apparently runs with no errors. However if I look on the Reports Manager interface there is nothing in the "Last Run" column and no report email is received. When I check the Reporting Services logs I can see the following:
ReportServerWebApp log file:

These errors occur at the time I set up the subscription (not the scheduled execution time). I can run the job manually "Start job at step..." in SQL Management Studio and the report is sent/received. I have seen a few posts similar to this but as yet haven't seen anyone resolve this problem. Can anyone help me?
So in a previous thread I discovered that in order to actually subscribe to any publication, the publisher needs to be a well-known network name, requiring DNS resolution. You can't simply point a SQLExpress instance at an ip addressinstance and have it resolve the communications.
Does anyone know of a link or list that has all the parameters for the "rs:" section of the URL access parameter, except for the ones in the Microsoft books?
Hello, i am trying to subscribe to a report that has dependant parameters, for example Country->City and Year-> Month. Those values are coming from a Analysis Services cube dimensions. when i come to it in the subscription window, some of the parameters are populated and some are not. I cannot detect a pattern. Does anyone know what can be the problem? thank you.
Occasionally I have this error happening in some of my subscriptions: Subscription contains invalid parameters.
What is actually happenign, one of the parameters has lost the value on which it was previously running without problems. If I open subscription the first parameter, of more, is having no value. The value that is usually lost is first option in drop down list, being for ALL of bellow values. When the error happens it has no value, and that option normally doesn't exists as a parameter value. (If you go creating new subscription that same parameter doesn't have empty values as options to be selected. I usually return ALL and then other individual values.)
For example, one report is having paramteres that returns values from the stored procedure, and the return dataset would be:
Value Label ----------------- ----- 'SP1','SP2','SP3' ALL 'SP1' SP1 'SP2' SP2 'SP3' SP3
So, when the error happens, in no reason (no changes to proc, to report design, to subscription,...) usually those subscriptions that had ALL for this parameter have lost the value, the option is BLANK, and is treated as invalid value, which is correct, as my query also doesn't return BLANK value. I have to manually go into subscription and set up the value back to ALL and then it's OK, untill next time.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone now the fix for this? We thought that hot fix on SP2 may solve this, we applied on dev server but it didn't.
There are lots of subscriptions (for different reports) that are being sent out for users on a daily and weekly basis.
For the last few weeks, some of these subscriptions fail. It€™s not the same report subscriptions that fail each week. (Some subscriptions of few (different) reports fail each weekJ).
When we reschedule them, it goes out without any issues. Please let me know if you have ever faced such issues with SSRS report subscriptions. Please let me know if you would require more information.
I have created a subscription to dump my output file into a network share, however; when it runs I'm getting the following error in my log file:
ReportingServicesService!library!13a4!12/15/2006-10:25:09:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: The Report Server has encountered a configuration error; more details in the log files, AuthzInitializeContextFromSid: Win32 error: 5; possible reason - service account doesn't have rights to check domain user SIDs.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to correct this. I'm assuming I have a permissions issue some where.
ok, I am on Day 2 of being brain dead.I have a database with a table with 2 varchar(25) columns I have a btton click event that gets the value of the userName, and a text box.I NEED to insert a new row in a sql database, with the 2 variables.Ive used a sqldatasource object, and tried to midify the insert parameters, tried to set it at the button click event, and NOTHING is working. I've been asked to set up a data driven subscription for a number of reports which use multi value parameters. For example, show me all transactions against the following departments: IT, Building Services, Accounts.
As an interactive report it's simple, the user just selects the relevant departments, but as a data driven subscription I can't seem to find the correct format to pass the selections through.
Using RS2005, how should multivalue parameters be stored in a database field so that a data driven subscription can properly read and use them? I have so far had no luck using syntax of:
1) parm1, parm2
2) parm1,parm2
Do single qutoes need to explicitly wrap the values? Can you please provide an example and a SQL INSERT statement using parm1 and parm2 to demonstrate what to store in the database field?
We have a new SSRS 2005 instance running with a number of reports. We have setup a subscription on one of these to run at 8am every Monday. However this is not working. No email is being sent and it does not appear the subscription is being run, nothing is ever written in the Last Run column.
I have looked in the logs and the only thing I can see is the following warning
w3wp!extensionfactory!5!13/02/2006-14:42:03:: w WARN: The extension Report Server Email does not have a LocalizedNameAttribute. w3wp!extensionfactory!5!13/02/2006-14:42:03:: w WARN: The extension Report Server FileShare does not have a LocalizedNameAttribute.
We had this working succesfully with SSRS 2000. The new instance was a clean install.
Some months ago, we migrated our SQL Server Reporting services server from Server 'Alpha' to server 'Bravo'. I thought we performed all of the steps needed to accomplish this task based on various Microsoft Articles that we identified. The fact that everything has been running fine (we thought) for the last several months confirmed our belief that everything was done.
Our problem found the other day is with a report 'Subscription'. The other day, a user called me and said their subscription is coming to them fine with the report displayed, but the link to re-run the report at the bottom of the e-mailed document doesn't work. I looked at the e-mail they received and found that the link had 'http://alpha/reportserver/...' instead of 'http://bravo/reportsserver/...'. Since 'Bravo' is the name of the new server, I new something was a miss. I tried creating a new subscription to a report and the result was the same 'http://alpha/reportserver/...' I've looked high and low in the SQL Reporting services configuration and can not figure out where I missed a change from 'Alpha' to 'Bravo'.
Has anyone seen anthing like this? If you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric-

I have a report subscription. Delivery Options Credentials use NT account, and 'Path' is defined. We had NT security guys verify account has FULL rights to folders. We have even temp applied EVERYONE to have FULL. I cannot find any details on the failure in any RS logs, even after turning on 'remote errors' on server.
I suspect SSRS is using its SERVICE Account to connect to path, but again we have temp applied EVERYONE to have FULL rights and still get failure.
Any suggestions on where to look next would be apprciated.
We have many reports with cascading multivalue parameters. The reports and the parameters work as expected within the BI development and when deployed to the RS server. The issue we are having is that when we go to the Report Manager webpage for one of these reports and create a New Subscription the report parameters in the subscription field fail to populate. The first one or two parameters may properly populate but the 3rd, 4th, and 5th fail to populate. As a result we can not select the parameters to submit the subscription.
We have two example reports where one report uses only sql (text) and the other report uses only stored procedures. Both reports have 2 or more cascading parameters.
Any known issues with cascading multivalue parameters in the Report Manager subscription view?
i just kicked off a job that starts a data driven subscription that generates ~200 excel spreadsheets.
I kind of expected them to appear in the execution log, and that the TimeEnd would reflect when they complete.
instead, it appears that the TimeEnd is when the SQLcommand finished executing, ie, a few milliseconds after the start.
it does not reflect when the report finishes completing; if i run sp_whoisactive, i see a stack of reports at a time clawing their way through the process. (ie i see calls to [CreateChunkStatement] and all the other steps a report kicks off.
Other than watching execution requests, how can i know if anything is running as far as subscriptions go?
Is it possible to set up a report subscription in SSRS where there is no value provided for the 'To' address, instead adding all recipients into the BCC field, so that each recipient receives a copy of the report without being able to see the other recipients?Note, i am wanting to create a data driven subscription rather than a static subscription. I am using SSRS 2008 r2.

I've Created Local Smtp to use gmailid for Subscription of SSRS Report by Email as we don't have an Exchange Server.
User this link to Create local SMTP
Studied few blogs that related it to agent service running under local system account, on my machine it was running on NT/NetworkService change it to Administrator of local Machine. Did same change for Database Engine of Service of SQL Instance.
FYI- My Machine is not in Domain, so used local administrator for giving rights to service mentioned above.

I have SSRS 2005 installed. User wants to change email address on subscription to send to external customer or others in our organization.
If I modify right "Manage individual subscriptions" to enabled for his security profile, the email address box is greyed-out.
I tried changing value <SendEmailToUserAlias>xxxx</ SendEmailToUserAlias> to FALSE in rsreportserver.config, with SSRS restart, but address box is greyed-out.
If I modify right "Manage all subscriptions" enabled for his security profile, the address box is not greyed-out, but can now see-edit everyone's subscriptions for that report.
How can I turn on address box is not greyed-out, but not open view of ALL subscriptions to my users?
We have this sporadic problem where when we go in to save an edit on a SSRS report subscription, it gives us a duplicate job number error. When I look at the Jobs in the Agent, there are duplicates, so I need to manually delete both duplicate jobs, then the subscription save will work. If we delete just 1 of the jobs, the issue seems to clear for a while, but then reoccurs. This has happened to us on multiple reports, but not consistently. The subscriptions look fine.
Hi,How do I set the parameters of an SqlDataSource programatically?I have tried the following...dsDraftBudgetPI.SelectParameters.Add(new Parameter("@person_id", TypeCode.Int32, pID.ToString()));But that didn't work. I already have the parameter defined at design time so I don't need to create one I just want to set its value and then bind it to a ListBox to display the result. Thanks,Scott
Here is the code I am trying to use to set a update parameter at runtime. (Depending on what linkbutton a user clicks on the STATUS_ID value will change.) SqlDataSource1.UpdateParameters("STATUS_ID").DefaultValue = 33332Here are my parameters: <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="CUSTOMER_ID" Type="Decimal" /> <asp:Parameter Name="RECEIVED_BY" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="CALL_DATETIME" Type="DateTime" /> <asp:Parameter Name="AREA_ID" Type="Decimal" /> <asp:Parameter Name="CLASS_ID" Type="Decimal" /> <asp:Parameter Name="STATUS_ID" Type="Decimal" /></UpdateParameters>Sqldatasource1 is the name of my datasource control. Any thoughts?
Hi, I have this query basically im trying to set the @db to the current database depending on the quarter. This will be used in a package to change the database that the package will use.
DECLARE @db nVarchar(4000) SET @db = N'TESTDB' + RIGHT(DATEPART(yy, GETDATE()), 2) + '_' + CASE WHEN DATEPART(m, GETDATE()) IN ('11', '12', '1') THEN 'Q1' ELSE CASE WHEN DATEPART(m, GETDATE()) IN ('2', '3', '4') THEN 'Q2' ELSE CASE WHEN DATEPART(m, GETDATE()) IN ('5', '6', '7') THEN 'Q3' ELSE CASE WHEN DATEPART(m, GETDATE()) IN ('8', '9', '10') THEN 'Q4' END END END END EXECUTE sp_executesql @db, N'@level tinyint', @level = 35
I get the error Incorrect Syntax near 'TESTDB04_Q3'.
