Setting The Datasource Select Command
May 22, 2008
Can someone tell me why the syntax checker is choking on the following code? It doesn't like the SQLDataSource1 reference. Protected Sub cmdSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSubmit.Click
SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username='" + Trim(txtUsername.Text) + "' AND password='" + Trim(txtPassword.Text) + "'"
End Sub
Thanks

I am trying to use the code below to set a formview datasource parameter in the page_load section of a user control (ascx file): public void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ formview_datasource.SelectParameters.Add("@department_id", "e62bbc7d623f44a68e101cba90e839s3");} However I am getting the following error: Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Must declare the variable '@department_id'.
So it would seem that page_load in my user control isn't being called? I'm not sure why or how to work around it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or can give me some pointers on where I am going wrong?
ThanksBrad

Hi all,
Please advise which kind of connection should be establish from excel 95 to MS SQL Server.
From my thought, I understand that the connection depends on Windows version rather than excel version.
Thus, I just think that there will not be any issue connecting to SQL Server from Excel 5.0a.
Kindly advise if there is any addtional point to concern/consider further.
What could be issue connecting to SQL Server 2005 from Excel 5.0a.
Thank you very much

Hi all, I am trying to do a very basic ALTER Command and am trying to change its DEFAULT value. Code below is what I currently have:
Code Snippet
ALTER TABLE Table_1
ALTER COLUMN TEST VARCHAR(1000) NULL DEFAULT 2
Thanks, Onam.
*UPDATE* I found this code but are there alternative methods? Additionally, if I was to update its DEFAULT value again how would I go about doing that? Do I first have to remove the CONSTRAINT and then run the command?
Code Snippet
ALTER TABLE Table_1 ADD CONSTRAINT DF_Albumns_Comment DEFAULT 2 FOR TEST

Hello all,
Ok, I finally got my SqlDataSource working with Oracle once I found out what Oracle was looking for. My next hurdle is to try and set the Update Command and Parameters dynamically from a variable or radiobutton list. What I'm trying to accomplish is creating a hardware database for our computers by querying WMI and sending the info to textboxes for insertion and updating. I got that part all working nicely. Now I want to send the Computer name info to a different table column depending on if it is a laptop or desktop. I have been tossing around 2 ideas. A radiobutton list to select what it is and change the SQL parameters or do it by computer name since we have a unique identifier as the first letter ("W" for workstation, "L" for Laptop). I'm not sure what would be easiest but I'm still stuck on how this can be done. I posted this same question in here a few days ago, but I didn't have my SqlDataSources setup like I do now, I was using Dreamweaver 8, it is now ported to VS 2005. Below is my code, in bold is what I think needs to be changed dynamically, basically i need to change DESKTOP to LAPTOP...Thanks for all the help I've gotten from this forum already, I'm very new to ASP.NET and I couldn't do this without all the help. Thanks again!
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CAT %>"ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CAT.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand='SELECT * FROM "COMPUTER"' UpdateCommand="UPDATE COMPUTER SET DESKTOP = :DESKTOP, TECH = :TECH, SERVICE_TAG = :SERVICE_TAG WHERE USERNAME=:USERNAME">

Hello,
I was wondering if there was any way to set the service account on sql server 2005 express to Local System via command prompt.
To giva some background to this issue, I am installing 2005 express via command prompt, however, the default service account is network I believe. However, when running this, I keep getting an "error 3415" whenever I try to attach a database, which states that the files are "read only", which they are not. However, when setting the service account to local or set the security mode to windows authenticaiton, I can attach just fine.
The parameters I use to install are pretty standard:
"/qb ADDLOCAL=ALL INSTANCENAME=<name>SAPWD=<pwrd> SECURITYMODE=SQL DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SQLAUTOSTART=1"
So I was wondering if there was some way to set the service account to local system to local using some command prompt parameter. OR if there was another way around the error 3415 that will enable me to attach a database, that I do not know about that I can use, preferrably via command prompt, but anything will be fine at this point.
Thank you all in advance.

We are trying to start a server job running an SSIS package and supply some parameters to the package when we start the job using SMO.
What we have now is this:
string cmdLine = job.JobSteps[0].Command;
cmdLine += @" /SET PackageGetGroupRatingYear_Id.Variables[User::RatingId].Value;1";
cmdLine += @" /SET PackageGetGroupRatingYear_Id.Variables[User::GroupId].Value;1";
cmdLine += " /SET \Package.Variables[User::period].Value;"" + periodEndDate + """;
job.JobSteps[0].Command = cmdLine;
job.Start();
It appears that when the job is run, the modified command line is not used.
What is needed to supply runtime parameters to a job step when starting the job via SMO?
Thanks,

I'm using the asp.net login controls and am storing the user data in the sql table that get's automaticaly built by visual studio. I display records based on who is logged in. Currently i use a Session parameter in my datasource for the user name and store the username in a session variable on the page load event, Session["UserName"]= User.Identity.Name.
Is there a way i can use a Profile parameter in my data source and skip setting session variable all together? I tried putting Name and UserName and User.Identity.Name in the Profile property but nothing seems to work. Thanks for any help.

my local instance of reporting services is named and therefore I think causing me a problem when I issue the following command to set up an unattended account...
rsconfig -s localhostinstance name -e -u domain nameuser name -p password
the message I keep getting is "No Reporting Services instance found on local host.". I tried a couple of things including replacement of the word localhost with my computer name but to no avail. I tried single and double quotes around the -s parameter but no success.
Anybody know how to do this?

I searched this forum however I could not find an answer to my question. I'm sure it has been asked before but...
In my parameter if the user does not select anything, null, then it returns all the records.
Second question if he selects "All" then it returns all records.
If this is 1st grade stuff please forgive me. I'm pretty new, learning as the needs arise.

I want to be able to have a single select statment:
SELECT TOP 1 Call.JobNum, Call.CallID, Call.Company, Call.LastCallTime
FROM ClientJob INNER JOIN Client ON ClientJob.ClientID = Client.ClientID
INNER JOIN Call INNER JOIN Login ON Call.JobNum = Login.JobNum ON ClientJob.JobNum = Login.JobNum
WHERE (Login.LoginID = 3) AND (Call.Status = 0) AND (DATEDIFF(hh, Call.LastCallTime, getdate()) > 10)
ORDER BY Call.CallID
but with this select statment I also want to set a variable:
declare @variable int
SELECT TOP 1 Call.JobNum, @variable = Call.CallID, Call.Company, Call.LastCallTime
FROM ClientJob INNER JOIN Client ON ClientJob.ClientID = Client.ClientID
INNER JOIN Call INNER JOIN Login ON Call.JobNum = Login.JobNum ON ClientJob.JobNum = Login.JobNum
WHERE (Login.LoginID = 3) AND (Call.Status = 0) AND (DATEDIFF(hh, Call.LastCallTime, getdate()) > 10)
ORDER BY Call.CallID
Now SQL Server does not like this, can not set a variable in a multiple select statment. I NEED to do this all in one step if possible. Any suggestions?

Is it possible to set a filter in the SELECT-statementpart?
Normaly you the filter is set in the WHERE-statementpart, but that is too late for me in my statement. Right after the SELECTing the field I want to set a filter to the query? Is it possible?
My statement looks like this now:
SELECT [DatabaseName$Item].No_,
[DatabaseName$Item].Description,
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Unit Price],
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Starting Date],
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Starting Time],
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Sales Code] (<== here on this item I want to set a filter)
FROM [DatabaseName$Item] INNER JOIN
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG] ON
[DatabaseName$Item].No_ = [DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Item No_]
INNER JOIN (SELECT [Item No_], MAX([Starting Date]) AS MaxStartingDate, MAX([Starting Time]) AS MaxStartingTime
FROM [DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG] AS [DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG_1]
GROUP BY [Item No_]) AS SubQuery1
ON [DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Item No_] = SubQuery1.[Item No_] AND
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Starting Date] = SubQuery1.MaxStartingDate AND
[DatabaseName$Sales Price HAG].[Starting Time] = SubQuery1.MaxStartingTime

I don't want it to show future dates. If I change the command to WHERE (ReleaseDate >= { fn NOW() }) it doesn't work at all. I only want it to return one row - the latest releases date that is equal to or less than now.Any ideas?

How do I write a query that will select from database table dbo.emoployee where last name = dbo.employee.lastname and all other fields are blank, I want it to return all employees with that last name. If someone types in the last name and selects the age from the drop down list then I want to return all employees where last name = dbo.employee.lastname and age = dbo.employee.age. If someone types in just the first name then I want to return all employees where first name = pub.employees.firstname? I currently have a webpage that allows visitors to post links to their own website. As a spam filter I want to create a scheduled task that selects repeat entries in the database under the column name domain. I already made a filter to take everything out of the link the provide and leave it with just the domain name. I tested it and it works. Now I need a SQL command to select all the rows with repeats of the domain. Look at the following table example to better understand what I mean uid x y domain1 100 110 www.spam.com2 100 120 www.spam.com3 110 130 www.homepage.com4 210 220 www.myaspspam.com5 510 560 www.myaspspam.com in this example I would like 1 and 2 to be selected as well as 4 and 5 into a dataadapter so that I can delete them accordingly.

I have a SqlDataSource object that is bound to a GridView control. I have configured the SqlDataSource with a default select command. Under certain values of query strings on the URL for this page (Default.aspx), I want to change the select command. So I put the statements in the Page_Load method for Default.aspx to define SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand. The changed SelectCommand works fine for the first page of GridView data and shows 5 GridView pages, but if I switch to one of the other pages, it seems to revert to the default SelectCommand (which generates 19 GridView pages). I assume I should put my code to change the SelectCommand somewhere else. Can someone help me with where to put it? Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I'm fairly new to .Net and have reached a point in the coding I can't seem to get past.
I've created a table with Visual Studio 2005 and MySQL Server 2008 (Beta) and am trying to make the "Select" button bind a result from that table (in this case, image_id) then open up that image ID in a Image details page, I've created the table in Visual Studio 2005.
Here's what I've got so far;
Page 1Protected Sub GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)Dim row As GridViewRow = GridView1.SelectedRowSession("session_current") = row.Cells(1).TextServer.Transfer("page2.aspx")End SubI think this page isn't at fault as it reads the parameter into a text box on page2
Page2</asp:GridView><asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString3 %>"ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString3.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [profiles] WHERE ([profile_id] LIKE '%' + ? + '%')"><SelectParameters><asp:SessionParameter Name="profile_id" Type="String"/></SelectParameters>
I'd sincerly appreciate any help, any one may be able to offer,
Cheers,
Craig
