Settings For Processing Dimensions And Fact/partitions In SSIS

May 30, 2007

What are the general guildlines for choosing these settings, like paralle vs. sequential, different error configurations? The default selection for processing multiple dimensions is paralle and use default error configuration. But the default for processing multiple partitions is sequential. I cannot find anything helpful other than the definitions from the online help. TIA.

Mapping Surrogate Keys Of Level 2 Dimensions To Fact Table In SSIS Data Flow

Aug 16, 2007

Hi,
I use lookups to map surrogate of level 1 dimensions to my fact tables in SSIS.
But how to handle a level 2 dimension with a ValidFrom and a ValidUntil date field?
I do not use an IsCurrent column, because this could problem with late arriving facts.

- In dts I used an SQL statement like this:

update SA
SET SA.DimProdRef = Dim.RecordID
FROM SAWarenEingang SA, DimProd Dim
where SA.ProduktNumber = Dim.ProduktNumber
and SA.ArtikelkontoBewegungsdatum between Dim.ValidFrom and Dim.ValidUntil

Now in SSIS I want to handle the whole thing in the data flow without using a staging table:
- Using Lookups: I would have to pass the date column for each inside the fact table into the lookup. That does not work.
- Using Execute SQL in the data flow: would be very slow, because the statement will be executed for any line in the dataflow

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Stefoon

Truncate Dimensions/fact

May 17, 2007

Hi,

I am relatively new to SSIS/SSAS. I have searched the forums but cannot find an answer to my question.

I created a cube in SSAS and have deployed it. Now I am trying to use SSIS to populate the cube. I have setup a DS that points to the SSAS instance - it uses OLEDB Provider for Analysis services 9.0.

When I try to use a data flow task OLE DB source to truncate the dimension/cubes I do not see the DS in the list to select?

I am finding it hard to get into the SSIS way of organizing the processing.

Any Ideas?

Dimensions Vs. Factless Fact Tables

Jan 17, 2005

I am building a health care application that marries transaction-level data (health care services provided) with person-level characteristics that have a time-dimension. The person-level characteristics are diseases that the person has (these disease all have a start and some have an end date). The diseases are stored in a table in which the foreign keys are a person-identifier, a time identifier (month/year) and a surrogate for the disease. Persons can have more than one disease at a time (the diseases are NOT mutually-exclusive). There are no measures in this table. The transaction table has a foreign key for person and time (month/day/year), a procedure code (the type of service rendered) and money (the cost of the services).

How do I answer the following questions:

What is the total cost of care (the sum of all service costs) last year for persons with "disease A"?

What is the total cost of care last year for persons with "disease A" AND "disease B"?

What is the total cost of care last year for persons with "disease A" OR "disease B"?

I've tried a factless fact table but can't get it to work. If anyone has the right solution and can communicate to me before I slit my wrists, I would be greatly appreciative!!!

Multiple Fact Table And Dimensions

May 22, 2008

Hi,
I have 2 fact tables and 2 dimensions (one of them is time).

fact1 ---- pk-fk ------ fact1-details-table
(date) |
| Dimension.
|
TimeDim

Is there a way to define measure group on fact1-details-table using TimeDim. Date info is only in fact1 table and not in details table.

Is namedquery joining the 2 fact tables the best solution in this case? There is so much redundancy using one fact table, so underlying sqldb uses 2 tables.

Thanks,
Chandra.

Analysis :: Linking Multiple Fact Table At Different Granularity To Same Dimensions

Jul 15, 2015

I am modelling two fact tables of Actuals and Budget which are at different granularity, Actuals are at day, customer and product sub category level. Budgets are at month, Region and Product category level.

Month, Region and Product Category is present in Date, Region and Product Category dimension respectively. I have only three dimensions as Customer, Product and Date. Linking those dimensions to Actual Fact table is not an issue, what is the best way and options are there to link budget fact table to those three dimensions.

When Connecting To SQL Server 2005, This Failure May Be Caused By The Fact That Under The Default Settings SQL Server Does Not A

Mar 2, 2008

My environment:

Home PC
Vista Ultimate
SQL Server Developer 2005

I'm about to go absolutely nuts. I've tried so many things including:

1) Of course making sure Remote connections and both TCP/IP and named pipes are enabled for SQL 2005
2) Verified my connection string works. I even tested it in Enterprise Library using the tool and it connects successfully via windows authentication
3) Made sure of course my logged in user is a member of the administrator group and that my user in SQL 2005 logins has db_owner and full rights to the DB I am connecting to. I also made sure the NT AUTHORITY as well as the 3 sql service users have db_owner rights as well as the adminstrator in the SQL Server logins all have db_owner to the DB
4) Started the SQL Server Browser service, SQL Server DB engine, and SQL Server Agent
5) Made sure my site is setup right in IIS 7. I checked the connection string in there as well as it shows up in IIS7 in one of the sections. Using Windows authentication and it is enabled for my site
6) Tried running the .net site using both localhost (IIS) and also tried using the Visual Studio built-in web server. Both give this message still

An Error Has Occurred While Establishing A Connection To The Server. When Connecting To SQL Server 2005, This Failure May Be Caused By The Fact That Under The Default Settings SQL Server Does Not Allow Remote Connections.

Jan 22, 2008

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277  I am supposed to:

1.
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder.  The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this:  All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication.  I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

Dec 10, 2007

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it.  Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error.  Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing.  I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do.  I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled.  I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss.  I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error.  I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

How To Create Partitions On Cube Using SSIS?

May 5, 2008

Hi,

I am currently using SSIS ,MS Sql Server 2000 database and 2000 Analysis Services for the cube.
I am creating a new table everyday and giving name like day_20080504, day_20080505 etc...
So then I go to Analysis Services and process dimensions(incremental) AND
Create a new partition using old partition as a template.

My first question is how to create a new partition everday and use old partition as template...(Almost same except database table)
My Second question : Can I do this on 2000 Analysis services or Should I convert my cube into SSAS?

thanks,
J

SSIS (DImension And Fact Tables)

May 16, 2007

Hi,

I am new at SSIS and I am trying to create a Datawarehouse using SSIS. I have the data files as flat files I have the Dimensional Model ready on Paper and Now I need to use the SSIS for the ETL process.

I am trying to figure out how to make dimension tables in SSIS? I mean I want to create the 5 Dimension tables and then create a Fact table out of it but I cant understand where to start? Can any one tell me how we create Dimesion tables in SSIS. Like one of the dimesion tables I need to create uses 2 flat files and is like a flattened dimension, How would I create this in SSIS?

Even if there is any tutorial which shows this step by step do let me know. I would really appreciate any guidance on this.

Thanks,

How To Load Periodic SnapShot Fact Table With SSIS

Feb 14, 2006

I need help from you data warehouse / SSIS experts out there! I have a Transaction Fact Table with dollar amounts as the measurements. The grain is one row per transaction. I want to roll this up into a Monthly Periodic Snapshot based on 5 keys. I am having no problem where there is transaction data for each month.

However, the problem I am having is - how do I gracefully insert the Monthly rows for the five keys where there was no activity in the transaction fact table - I am sure there is a slick way to do this with SSIS but I am definitely having a mental block on how to accomplish this. Any help would be appreciated!

SSIS: Inserting Unknown Members From Fact Table

Aug 18, 2005

Looking up surrogate keys in a dimension table and adding these to your data flow is easy when there is a match in your dimension table for every key in your fact table. However, I am puzzled by how to manage the data flow when no match can be found for a specific key in the fact table when doing the lookup AND I then want to insert this unknown key as an unknown/inferred member in the dimension table. The problem is further complicated by the fact that when I have inserted the unknown member in the dimension table and it has been assigned a surrogate key there, I want to add this surrogate key to my fact table - just as if there had been a match in the lookup in the first place.

Configuration Settings In A DLL Called From SSIS

May 27, 2008

OK, here's the scenario:

I have some libraries (DLL) that I call from a regular console application. The data access methods get the connection string from the app.config, nothing special there.

The thing is: now I need to use the libraries inside a SSIS package. I call them from a script task, and everything is fine, except for the connection string.

Is there a way that I can get the connection string from the SSIS package configuration like I would from the app.config? Maybe some alternative to ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ConnString"] in the DTS Runtime?

Thanks in advance...

Specifying Regional Settings In XmlConfigfile For SSIS Package

Jan 30, 2008

Hi All,

I have been playing around with SSIS for a bit, and i am running into the following problem.

I am trying to import 3 worksheets from an excel file.
The import must be performed on several servers.

I created a config file for this which contains the path to the excel file and the connectionstring, and the LocaleID's of the different tasks.

I have the following tasks :

1. preparation SQL task ( this calls a few sql statements which cleanup certain import tables )
2. data flow task ( this the actual import from the excel file to several tables, this what goes wrong )
3. execute SQL task ( this calls a stored proc which does some filtering the imported data into other tables ).

point 2 is giving problems.

Point 2 will only work when i change my computers regional settings to English.
If i have my settings set to Dutch, it won;t work. Even specifying the english localeID's seem to have no effect.

The problem is a decimal field in the database, and the difference in decimal separator. When i set my regional settings to English the values in the excel are notated like 74.54 which works. And when i have the dutch regional settings the same value in excel is displayed like 74,54. I haven't got a clue how to solve this.

Is there a way to tell the SSIS to not use the regional settings, but use the settings specified in the config file ?
And if this is possible how can i check if the correct settings are used ?

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Deployments - Protection Level Settings

Jun 23, 2014

I am currently designing a SSIS package that will migrate data from Syabse to Sql server. If these packages are to be deployed to file system (as this is one time run for migrating data) or to SSIS catalog or to Sql server.

Also, I have not changed the default protection level value in packages during design time and would like to know if I have to change it while handling the deployment using DTutil (yes, i need to deploy & execute using command line utilities).

Please note that I do not have access to PROD, UAT environments and deployment team will use my BAT file that is expected to deploy and execute the packages.

Need Help With Row By Row Processing In SSIS

Feb 28, 2007

Hello all,

I am having trouble trying to construct the following process in SSIS/SQL
2005:

1. Grab a set of unprocessed rows (ProcessDT = null) in an 'Action' table
2. For each of these rows, execute multiple stored procedures base on the
action type
If actiontype = 1, exec spAct1a @param1, @parm2
exec spAct1b @param1, @parm2, @param3, @param4
If actiontype = 2, exec spAct2a @param1, @parm2, @param3
exec spAct2b @param1, @parm2, @param3
etc....
3. Update ProcessDT so it's not processed again
4. Repeat until all rows are processed

Note - all sp params are contained in additional columns in the Action
table. Basically the Action table is a store for post-event processing of
sorts
but is order dependent, hence the row by row processing. And some of my
servers are 2000 so Service Broker is not an option (yet).

I first attempted to do this totally within the control flow - using an ado
recordset/foreach loop control, but I could not figure out how to run
conditional
process paths based on the ActionTypeID. I then tried to do this within the
dataflow using on OLEDB data source, a conditional split, and an oledb
command control
which almost got me there - the problem being for each row I need to execute
multiple sp's and it appears as if the oledb command only gives me one sp.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

SQL Server 2012 :: Joining Dim To Fact Table Where Dim Table Key Exists In Multiple Fact Columns

Oct 26, 2015

Say you have a fact table with a few columns that all reference the same key column in a dimension table, you want to write a view to return the information for those keys?

USE MyTestDB;
GO
SET NOCOUNT ON;
IF OBJECT_ID ('dbo.FactTemp' ,'U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE dbo.FactTemp;

[Code] ....

I'm using very small data at the moment, and the query plan and statistics don't really say which way.

SSIS Parallel Processing Of Packages

Oct 7, 2006

Hi,

I am facing some problem's while using the FOR loop container to execute 7-10 packages in parallel.

The main package has 7 FOR loop containers say F1-F7.

Each FOR loop container has 2 task's

T1==> exec child package C1

T2==> exec delay task Delay1.

The idea is to run child packages c1-c7 in parallel ...delay for some time and then run again since there are in the FOR loop container.

I am facing someproblems.

1. The execution of tasks T1-T7 is not guranteed. This means SSIS picks up any 6 tasks of T1-T7 randomly to start with. 6 is the max it processes whereas i have more than that. Can i change this setting???

2. Its not guranteed that if say Task t1 of FOR loop F1 is executed the subsequent task for Delay within tat For loop would be executed next. Typically wat happens is it starts with T1-T6 (T7 onhold) and then exec the delay for T1-T5 and passes control to T7 without going into the delay for T6.This is not the intended execution.

What i want is exec T1-t7 ..delay for the next exec and start again.

How do i do this.

SSIS Hanging In The Middle Of Processing

Jun 25, 2006

Hi,

We have a problem importing the flat file data using SSIS into sql database.

For some erroneous files the package is just hanging with out any activity (Disk Reads/sec, Disk Writes/sec, Page faults/sec, Workingset Memory counters are const when the package hung). The package is giving the following messages before it is hung.

The column data for column "ServerName" overflowed the disk I/O buffer.
An error occurred while processing file "M:Tani1APS-PRXY-02APS-PRXY-02-ISALOG_20060621_FWS_001-2006062106.Log" on data row 1.
The PrimeOutput method on component "Firewall Data" (6109) returned error code 0xC0202092. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.
Thread "WorkThread0" received a shutdown signal and is terminating. The user requested a shutdown, or an error in another thread is causing the pipeline to shutdown.
Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039.

Even though it says has SourceThread0 has exited, it package is not terminating itself. We just want to ignore the errorneous file and move on to other files.

I tried altering DefaultBufferMaxRows in between 1000-10000, DefaultBufferSize to 1 MB €“ 20 MB which did not work out. Can one of you suggest us any resolution/work around for this issue? This is really a burning issue in our project would really appreciate any help!

-Syam.
