Hi all,
Can anyone point me to a resource on the best way to setup and use SSRS 2005 when reporting on tables that could have 1 billion rows. The database in question will have mulitple schema's each being at least 1 terabyte in size.
Thanks

I've got a report that is using a cube as a data source and I can't get the report to show all the data. Only data at the lowest level of the cube is displayed. The problem is that most of the data I'm concerned with is at higher levels. There's no problem with the MDX. I get the correct results when I run the query.
I'm using a table to show the results. I've also tried a matrix, but I get the same results. I'm using SSRS 2005 and SSAS 2000.
Anyone have experience with this? Am I missing something simple?
We want to start working with Reporting Services on a Windows Server 2003 (SP1) server that has SQL2000 (SP3) Standard Edition. I thought I could load RS from the CD but it does not appear to be on there. I seem to remember that Microsoft added RS to SQL2000 in the last year or so. Can I download a copy of it, or how do I go about getting a copy and how to I show my boss that it is a legit copy? Thanks...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am just starting out using CUBEMEMBER/CUBEVALUE formulas in excel linked into a sql olap db - using this method for some custom reports where pivot tables are not suitable.
The time dimension values include Months, Quarters and Years and the CUBEMEMBER formulas like
=CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[1].&[1]") work fine - 1st quarter 1st month etc.
Is there a straightforward notation to aggregate months or do I need to use a plus sign to add a number of CUBEMEMBER formulas together. In other words - Is there an easier way of for say jan to july 2015 totals than
=CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[1]") + (CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[2]")) + (CUBEMEMBER("OLAPCUBE","[Time].[Time].[Year].&[2015].&[3].&[7]"))
I haven't tested this but have assumed it works but a bit long and clumsy.
We just applied SP2 to our Windows 2003 server & it has had an odd impact RS2000.
When trying to change the data source of a report to a shared data source, the browse button when clicked does not take you to the page to enable selection! It does nothing!
Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on there?
Here's the situation we're facing. Our organization is going to consolidate into a single domain. The plan of action is to disband the old domain, and create an all new domain. Most of our servers will also be renamed in the process.
We've got something of a two-server setup, with one machine handling SQL Server, and the other hosting various intranet sites, including Reporting Services 2000.
SQL Server itself shouldn't be a huge problem to migrate - the machine only has about half a dozen Windows logins set up. In my experience, though, Reporting Services is a much more fragile animal. Just getting it up and running on Win2003 SP1 and coexisting with ASP.NET 2.0 was enough of a stunt already. What will I have to watch out for to make sure this doesn't completely hose our installation? Would it be too optimistic for me to hope that I'll just have to reconcile any domain service accounts, change the connection string for the report server catalog database, and be done with it?
Hi there,
I've got a RS2000 report from Analysis services 2000. This report is working fine but after the upgrade to SQL2K5, i'm having issues with changes to parameters.
Basically i'm passing DateQuarter, CustomersLevel as parameters to the following mdx script. I've tried to change mdx script in RS2005 but no luck yet. I don't much about the parameter level changes in sql2k5. So can anyone suggest what is wrong in the script.
Code Block
RS2000
="with " &
"member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)' " &
"set [Rolling Quarters] as '" + Parameters!DateQuarter.value +".lag(4):" + Parameters!DateQuarter.value + "'" &
"SELECT " &
"{[Measures].[Ex Price]} ON COLUMNS , " &
"filter({CrossJoin([Items by Class].[Item Class Description].members, [Rolling Quarters])}, [Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on Rows " &
"FROM Sales " &
"WHERE (" & Parameters!CustomersLevel.Value & ")"
RS2005
with
member [Measures].[Ex Price] as 'coalesceempty([Measures].[Ex Price After Trade Discount - Detail],0.00)'
set [Rolling Quarters] as '@DateQuarter' +'.lag(4):' + '@DateQuarter'
SELECT
{[Measures].[Ex Price]} ON COLUMNS ,
filter({CrossJoin([Items by Class].[Item Class Description].members, [Rolling Quarters])}, [Measures].[Ex Price] > 0) on Rows
FROM Sales
WHERE STRTOSET(@CustomersLevel)
Thanks in advance,
Vivek
We're using RS2000 and there are some reports that are having problems exporting to Excel after having been rendered.
The reports have no more than 30,000 rows, but are about 150 columns wide. The reports run (execute and redner) very quickly in Reporting Services, but when exporting, the "blank rendering window" (the one with the URL: "http://ServerName.Reportserver?ReportName&rs%3aCommand=Render&rs%3AFormat=EXCEL) is open for about half an hour, and the w3wp process pummels our 8 proc box (CPU between 50 and 90% for that time) and memory goes past 1.5 GIG (of the total 8 GIG) usage.
Sometimes we'll get a message asking the user to log in after about 10-15 minutes, after which it fails, other times it makes it to the dialog box asking if you want to open or save the spreadsheet. If it makes it to this dialog, it's OK, if not, it fails on the export. The resulting spreadsheets are only between 25 - 32 MG, not very big at all.
Are there any settings we can tweak to speed this up, or at the very least, be sure it always makes it to the Open/Save dialog?
Thanks in advance.
Hi There
I've not managed to find an answer already about this, and so I know you guys will be able to help me out becuase your great!!!
Our Reporting Services portal is acting strangely, all the existing reports we have subscriptions for are running fine.
However should we change the list of contacts or the dates or times of any exisiting schedule this stops our reports from being delivered, infact the report run time will pass, but the report will not run and even in the Subscriptions table of RS the last status will only show "New Subscription".
So whatever is happening, it is not triggering the correct work flow. (Thats my thought at least)
We examined SQL Agent logs to uncover that the Login used to run the reports was running the existing reports without issue, however the new subscriptions would give the following error:
[298] SQLServer Error: 8198, Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'SERVERNAMEREPORTING_ACCOUNT'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (ConnIsLoginSysAdmin)
The server name and account have been changed to protect the gullible and innocent.
I do hope someone else can provide some insight into my issues
Thanks in advance
Tristan
we're all pretty fluent with 2005 products, but must enhance our legacy 2000 RS product, and prefer to use vs2003. Does anyone recall how we used to get vs2003 to allow RS2000 design. We dont believe we saw such an option in installation of vs2003, but since installing the db preceded that, arent sure if we would have been given such an option had vs2003 been installed prior to the 2000 db.

Occasionally I have this error happening in some of my subscriptions: Subscription contains invalid parameters.
What is actually happenign, one of the parameters has lost the value on which it was previously running without problems. If I open subscription the first parameter, of more, is having no value. The value that is usually lost is first option in drop down list, being for ALL of bellow values. When the error happens it has no value, and that option normally doesn't exists as a parameter value. (If you go creating new subscription that same parameter doesn't have empty values as options to be selected. I usually return ALL and then other individual values.)
For example, one report is having paramteres that returns values from the stored procedure, and the return dataset would be:
Value Label
----------------- -----
'SP1','SP2','SP3' ALL
'SP1' SP1
'SP2' SP2
'SP3' SP3
So, when the error happens, in no reason (no changes to proc, to report design, to subscription,...)
usually those subscriptions that had ALL for this parameter have lost the value, the option is BLANK, and is treated as invalid value, which is correct, as my query also doesn't return BLANK value.
I have to manually go into subscription and set up the value back to ALL and then it's OK, untill next time.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone now the fix for this? We thought that hot fix on SP2 may solve this, we applied on dev server but it didn't.
Or maybe someone knows workaround this issue?
Thanking in advance!

Elizabeta
A few details first:
The report server is remote to the development server (VS 2003).
The web application that will be calling it is ASP.NET 2.0 and developed in VS 2005.
I have a couple of questions:
a: Can I link to the report from the web application using a basic Hyperlink control rather than using a ReportViewer control?
b: How can I force which format it opens in? Say I want it to be rendered as a PDF in one instance but at an XSL document in another.
Many thanks and kindest regards,

I have problems creating a cube with AMO.
I can add the cube to the database object and fill it with dimensions and a measuregroup (see code below).
If I call cube.Update() it says something like "Error in meta data manager. Cube has no measuregroups." (getting the message in german language)
The error in Microsoft.AnalysisServices.OperationException.Results.Messages is -1055653629
I can't find any documentation about this (or any other) error code in Microsoft documentation.
Here's my Code:
Cube newCube = database.Cubes.Add("MyCube","MyCube");
newCube.Language = 1031;
newCube.Collation = "Latin1_General_CI_AS";
CubeDimension dim = newCube.Dimensions.Add("dim1","dim1","dim1");
CubeAttribute attrib = dim.Attributes.Find("dim1Attr1");

Hi Friends,
I am trying to write SQL statement for getting information about Cube metadata.
When we create any table in MSSQL server, we can trace out its information from system tables in master database by querying tables like sysobjects, syscolumns etc.
Like that I have created a cube using MS Analysis services and I can see Metadata (like Creation Date, Processed on etc) on 'Metadata' tab of cube. But I want to access its contents by writting SQL statement. For this I could not locate any system level table where this information gets stored.
Could any one help me for writting htis system table level query for accessing metadata info of cube?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I need to change the default member of my Time dimension according to a parameter received by a report in Reporting Services. When I code the MDX query I can't seem to be able to begin my statement with an ALTER CUBE to set the default dimension. It seems I can only do a SELECT..FROM..WHERE query.
Does anyone know how to set the default member of a dimension in a report ??
Many thanks,
John
Hello:
How do I connect to an Analysis Services 2000 cube while in Integration Services? My idea is to execute an MDX query from within a package, and then stage the data to a SS 2005 table for a RS report to query.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Tim
We successfully migrated our RS2000 to RS2005. But we run into an issue €“ trying to modify an existing subscription that was created on RS2000 (We do not have this problem if the subscription is created on RS2005).

Question:
Is there anyway that I can workaround this issue? Or is there anyway that I can re-create existing report server subscriptions (I have 300+ subscriptions) programmatically.
Please help.

Hi,
I have made sure that I am a member of OLSP Adminstrator group on the server and everything seems to work al the way till design storgae and cube processing but then when I browse the cube, I do not get any data
Can someone kindly help and guide please.
Many thanks.
Can someone help me out in telling me what a data cube is and if you have any examples I can look at?
We are in the process of using data cubes through SQL. What we are looking for is to be able to have summary of data, but if we wanted to click on a grouping we can go to the details of the data.
I just wanted to know if there was any infomation/websites I can go and look at.
Thanks,
Wendy
Hi
i am using pivot table 11 to display the data from SSAS Cube. the problem is
1- pivot table fetches all the data and display it according to the design. but what i need is
a- the user could only see the data which was posted by himself.
b. He must be unaware of the data posted by other users.
in database table there is a field named userId which is also which is part of dimenssion in myCube.
i dont want to use filteraxes for this purpose actually i want the user to be unaware of other users of system also
any single helping word will be appriciated

Hi,
I am trying to filter data within my report by a date range (FromDate - ToDate), which is using a cube as a datasource.
My Issue:
I have the filtering working ok but if i select a date which is outside the range of the data within my cube for example if i select the starting date for the range as 1/Jan/1965 but by data starts from 15/Jan/1965 then no data is returned.
Within the MDX query within the STRTOSET function i am using 'constrained' which is around the date parameter i.e. StartDate for Range.
My question is has anyone or is it possible to use date values outside of the range of the data within my cube and get a correct dataset returned. If so could you please explain how with an example.
Many Thanks
When I make a call to GetSchemaDataset with a restriction of a cube name with a space in the name of the cube the call fails. Following is a sample of the code: adoRestriction = new AdomdRestriction("CATALOG_NAME", "Contoso Telecom_Contoso"); adoRestrictions.Add(adoRestriction); dataSet = conn.GetSchemaDataSet("MDSCHEMA_CUBES", adoRestrictions); I am running SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services SP2. Is there some way to qualify the cube name in the restriction or is this just a bug? Thanks.

Is there any way to use a web based thin client to access OLAP without installing analysis services on the web server?
Thanks for your help!
Is any way to export and import an olap cube whithout his data?

Hi friends,
I am new to MSAS world. I need help related to this. I want to pull data from MSAS cube programmatically. Only way I know is thru ODBO, but that won't help me in this case, cause I might have to drill down upto all possible intersections stored in MSAS (at least all of the stored members). Doing this thru MDX could be humongous thing, at least manipulating data taken out using ODBO.
I might be missing something out here. Can anybody help. It would also help if somebody can tell me if any other approach is poosible.
Thank you.

I've seen posts about merging 2 databases but everyone is talking about 2 SQL based databases. I have a data cube based on MDX query giving me all the Sales data. I have a Excel sheet with the Budgets in it, thanks to the connector i can browse through my Excel file using SQL statements.
Now the problem that i have is i want to merge these 2 data's into one report i want to provide Sales figures from the cube with the budgets next to them which are stored in the Excel file.
So basicly is it possible to merge an MDX based database with an SQL database ? Cuz all the solutions i have found to far is by joining databases which is always done on SQL level.
Is this possible or just impossible ?
Thanks in advance

I need to create a package that updates the dimensions and cube data from a data warehouse on daily basis. I was going to create a Data Flow that takes the data from the DW source then put it as input to a Process Dimension destination to update the dimensions and use a Process Partition destination in the same manner to update the cube, but then I came across the Analysis Services Processing Task which seems to do the job as well. I am kinda confused which way to go. Any recommendations?

Hello,
I have a problem with date conversion when the date is coming from a cube.
I mean the function "=cdate(Fields!Signature_Date.Value)" works fine when the date is always fill in, but when my record is equal to nothing, I have got the value "#error" in my report...
Which is the best way to avoid to display this value in my report?
I have used the code "=iif(Fields!Signature_Date.Value = nothing, nothing, cdate(Fields!Signature_Date.Value))" but it doesn't work neither...
Please, if my only way to resolve that is to convert the field in the MDX statement, could you give me a code example...?
Thanks,

Dear Friends..
I need help if any one can... My need is that...I am devloping my Cube using SSAS. I want to access my cube in multi languages e.g.: English, Japanese or other. At the movement I have two languages description in SQL Database like English and Japanese.
But In SSAS Translations, I can translate Measures Groups, Dimensions, Perspectives, KPIs, Actions, Named Sets & Calculated Members names. But there will be a need to Map Columns as per selected Lenguage so that I can display in proper language data.
Suppose I select Japanese the description should come from Column where Japanese description is stored.
OR any othere method by doing I can see my reports/data in any language.
Please Help...
