Setup And Upgrade :: Cannot Uninstall Named Reporting Service 2005

Aug 20, 2015

I needed to re-install the entire sql server 2005, I used add/remove program. everything went normal, except reporting service. I deleted the entire upper sql server directory, rebooted the box, however, it still shows up in services, even though the path does not exist. I tried to reinstall it again, but it complains about name already exists. I cannot change the name, but I am not able to find how I can remove it and reinstall it properly.

Last Action     : DetectInstanceClash
Error String    : An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.
Error Number    : 28086

Unable To Configure Database Setup In Reporting Service 2005

Apr 29, 2008

Hi,

I have installed SQL Reporting Service on one server. Using the config tool, I am trying to setup the Reporting Database on a seperate SQL instance. This SQL instance is running on a Clustered SQL 2005 server.

The creation of the Database is sucessful. However when I give the Windows credentials to connect to this database on the same page, I always fail at the following task : Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server. The error message is :

"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706B3)
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementObject.Get()
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetDatabaseConnection(String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String userName, String password)"

The Windows Account I am using has Full SQL Rights to the Clustered SQL Server. I have seen other posts on the forums about the 0x800706B3 error, but most of them are related to a problem with RPC.

The Reporting Services account is runing under 'Network Services'. I am not sure if this is causing the problem?

Thoughts anybody?

Thanks,

Mahmood

use a third party to use sql reporting services . I have not registered my domain name

Reporting Services Setup

Jul 31, 2004

I installed and started playing around with Reporting Services and realized that you are required to run IIS on your SQLserver in order to use RS. Is this 100% true?
Please tell me there is an alternative...this is huge roadblock due to company policy.

Thanks.

New Setup IIS, Reporting And SQL On One Server

Feb 3, 2007

i just installed the SQL 2005 Standard just for reviewing before installing enterprise edition on a server...with cluster.

I noticed you get path 90 and mssql.1, mssql.2, mssql.3
1...for SQL
2...for analysis olpa
3..sql reporting.

And it all goes on one server and Configures IIS.
Is it advisable to have all these servicess running on one server especially the IIS SQL Reporting and Analysis...

If i have 10 developers all doing net and cubes they could be overloading the entire Server

If anyone has this configured where all three services analysis, sql reporting working ...i like to your configuration settings .....do you have all these on one Server

I am newbie to SQL Reporting.

I have now uninstalled SQL Reporting Services, reinstalled it, but I am still getting the same error. From what I can infer, there is a problem with the httpHandler in the web.config file. It cannot load Microsoft.Web.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory.

Does anybody know anything about this or what else I might need to check? This has been going on for two days now and short of totally uninstalling all of SQL, I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

SQL 2012 :: Setup Replica For Databases For Reporting?

Jun 17, 2015

I would like to setup replica for one of the databases for reporting. The current environment is a 2 node cluster(active/passive). I would like to add a 3rd node that can server as a secondary replica. The secondary replica will be on asynchronous commit mode.

The database that needs to have alwayson setup has column level encryption enabled.

* Do I need to backup and restore the service master key on secondary server in order to have the column level encryption to work on secondary server?

* What would be preferred Quorum settings?

* What is the setting for 'readable secondary' for primary and replica db?

* What should be the setting for 'Connections in Primary Role' for primary and replica db?

* We are trying to setup without a Listner. Do I need to setup AG Listner? Can the application exclusively use the [secondary instance name].[replica DB name] without a listner?

Need Help Getting Reporting Services Setup For Internet Access

I have report server setup on the same machine where the sql server 2005 db is setup, as well as iis running the website. i simply need to get report server running to allow internet access. I have report server setup so that it is running locally (localhost), however, as soon as I change the iis site settings to a domain name, report server stops working properly. This looks like a permissions issue, Ive tried different combinations of settings, but nothing works. Any insight on how I can get report server setup for internet access (forms authentication), would be much appreciated.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 Setup Parameter Value

Apr 22, 2015

In an existing ssrs 2012 report, I want to basically add the following logic to a new dataset that will be used by a new parameter called 'Inventory'.

SELECT  DISTINCT Inv_number as value,  Inv_name as label
FROM s.dbo.fnUser( @endYear, 0, 0, 0)
WHERE (@report is not null)
order by  label,value

In this ssrs report, there are 15 reports that can automatically be generated. I basically want this new parameter called 'Inventory' to only be active when the 4th report is selected to be generated. Thus in the query I listed above, how can I change the query to only be active when the 4th report is selected?

I tried to change the where clause to (@report(4) is not null), but that did not work.

How To Setup User Security For Reporting Services Used Inside ASP.NET Web Applications?

Dec 13, 2007

I'm working on a project that requires integration of SQL Server Reporting Services with ASP.NET 3.0 Web Applications.
I'm working on Visual Studio 2005, with SQL Server 2005 on an XP development workstation.
SQL Server, Reporting Services, and IIS are all running on my local machine.

I'm trying to prototype two approaches, one using the Report Viewer control, and the second using the Reporting Services Web Service. I have the two examples setup in projects in Visual Studio.
The sample reports and data sources work fine in Visual Studio. I can access the report using the Reporting Services URL like this: http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fBTT_BDS_DEV%2fCustomers; Report works fine.

My problem is, that when I try and access the report using the Report Viewer inside an ASP.NET page or from the Web Serivce hooked up inside an ASP.NET Page I get a security errors. I have chosen Windows Security for the Datasource, and ASP.NET pages. In the case of the Web Service, I'm passing in my local domain user name as the credentials.

I'm prototyping this on my local workstation, but I need to design this to be used on our corporate Intranet using Windows Security.

My questions are:

1. How do I need to setup users on my local development workstation to get this to work.
2. How should I plan for user security for enterprise deployment, i.e. using Reporting Services inside a large ASP.NET Web Application?
3. Can anybody give me some links to some good developer type working examples of doing this. I've looked but have not found the answers
to the "how do I setup users" part of the question specifcally related to ASP.NET apps?

Below is the code example of the Web Services example app I'm working with which came out of a book I have on
Reporting Services. This example compiles and seems like it would work but doesn't. Also following are a few of the
error messages I get when experimenting with the example apps:

Errors:

Reporting Services :: How To Setup SSRS For On Demand Access And Fast Cache

Sep 22, 2015

I have a dashboard page that I would like to load fast. But I would also like the user to be able to run the report On-Demand. The report has start date and end date parameters which default to the first and last day of last month. If I use a Cache plan that loads at 6AM the report runs with the default parameters set in the report, the user has to wait until it completes before they can change the parameters.

If I uncheck "use default" parameters in the report I lose the ability to set a cache refresh plan with the default parameters because the option is greyed out. So is there anyway outside of creating a second copy of the report to allow a user to open a report, change the parameters and run it, but also have a way to schedule some sort of Cached report for the default parameters so I can put that on a WebPart page that would load instantly?

Reporting Services Configuration And Database Setup Error Invalid Object Name 'sysdatabases'

Yesterday, literally I was banging my head to the wall, kept getting this error:

A Connection could not be established with the information provided. Hit OK to change your connection settings.
Invalid object name 'sysdatabases'.

I uninstall and re-install back the reporting services couple times and I kept getting the same error.
I have 2 instances of SQL Server on the same Server:

SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2005
The 2 instances work side by side, I was wondering if this causing the error.

Can anyone help out with this problem?

The Setup Has Encountered An Unexpected Error While Setting Reporting Service And Share Point Exclusion Path.

Oct 22, 2006

I got this error message during SQL Server Express install with no error code on Server 2003 SP1. I'm installing on an older development machine and although I do have a very large log file somewhere I wanted to post before I even dug into it. I noticed in IIS under my Webs that the MSSQLExpress webs were there at first but when I clicked on them to get any info or Properties... they dissapeared. So they were almost installed but they no longer exist. Also I do not have a SQL Service Manager icon down near the clock.

I almost took a step to fix this. After reading a few posts about similar problems I thought maybe this happened because the Default Web Sites IP # was not set to (All Unassigned). I was going to try a repair install from Add/Remove Programs but the temporary setup files are already gone. I really dont want to uninstall all 5 SQL components from Add/Remove Programs and start from scratch.

As good security practice we usually remove the Default Web or as in this development servers case we changed the IP from (All Unassigned) to an IP that is only accessible from certain machines on the internal network. I obviously should have read more pre setup guides. Anyway how can I fix this without reinstalling everything?

SQL 2005 Database Setup

Feb 7, 2007

I am trying get a database setup in my new install of VS 2005. I have a project on one PC where I just have VS2005 installed and i am able create a website, go to the APP_DATA folder and add a database. On another PC I have VS 2005 installed and then I installed SQL server 2005. Now I fail to connect to ??? when I try and enter the sercuity page of webconfig or try to add a database when I open the APP_DATA folder. There have been many things done on this PC between the install of the two mentioned packages and trying this database creation. However, I feel that something related to the install of SQL Server 2005 after VS 2005 has done something unexpected. Or, I need to manage something between the SQL Express version that got loaded with VS 2005 and the subsequent install of SQL Server. I just don't know what to look for at this point.

I currently have a MS SQL 2000 database that is 60GB in size for MS Dynamics 8.0 and one that is 2GB that I want to move to a new server.

I've setup and tested it and it all works, now I'm looking for some Best Practices information for best performance. Currently doing about 3,000 transactions a day.

Server is HP ML350-G5 2 Xeon Dual Core 2.0GHz CPUs w/16GB RAM w/external drive bays running 72GB 15K SAS drives with SMART ARRAY P800.
OS is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise w/SP2 - MS SQL 2005 Standard
I have the following drive configurations setup.

C:(RAID1+0)OS - SQL 2005
D:(RAID1+0)Dynamics Application Shared dictionary files for clients
G:(RAID0)BACKUPS (see note below about TEMPDB) I also have a 25GB swap file on this drive maybe better to put in on the D: volume if I put TEMPDB here
H:(RAID1+0)LOGS (2 user db logs and the tempdb log)
I:(RAID1+0)DATA (2 user db - [model, msdb, master]

Recently found that my G: drive (RAID0) only has space for 2 backups (poor space planning on my part) before I need to move the files. Normally I backup the DB with BackupExec 10.1d just fine in about 2 hours over the wire at night since no one is in the DB at night.
Was wondering if putting my TEMPDB there on (RAID0) would be advisable or not. In SQL 2005 it gets rebuilt each time SQL is restarted so it would seem that ensuring it's on a RAID1 or RAID1+0 might not be as necessary as say the DATA files.
Then if I really wanted to I could actually do backups on the I:DATA drive at night and then use TAPE to back that up, and use an automated script to move them off to offline storage once the TAPE backup is done.

For the [model, msdb, master] should they need to be on the I:DATA drive or just leave them on C:OS ? Not sure how much they're actually used.

Also doing some brief testing the Microsoft Dynamics was much slower on the new Server than it was on the original. Odd to me since the new Server is like a McLaren F1 racing a Ford Pinto. The old server is running a single P4 CPU and 6GB RAM

I've set MS SQL 2005 to use 12GB of RAM on the new server so as to leave 4GB for other Server tasks.

I ran the Maintenance Wizard and had it do checks and defrag and index rebuild etc... so not really sure why the speed would be noticeably slower. One thing I did notice is that once a screen query was ran then the next time it was a bit faster but overall I was expecting to see the screens fly by on this new hardware and SQL 2005 but it doesn't really do that.

I've read some of the white papers etc for tuning, but wow I just don't have unlimited hours to do all this analysis, there seem to be hundreds of pages to read on that type of stuff.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Sql 2005 SP1 Setup Failed

Apr 20, 2006

Hello I have installed Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, as well as Visual studio 2005 Standard edtion. I installed SQL 2005 express edition after installing Visual Web developer 2005 Express Edition! at least I thought I did. I most recently tried to install the SP1 of SQL 2005 express edi... and I seem to have gotten a failure to install message with (sa) in the message(I remember it from the first install but it had gone away on 2nd attempt). I have a two part question (1 Does VWD 2005 Express Edition have SQL 2005 Express Edi... included within it can this be causing the failure and, (2 how can I resolve this problem.

Thank You,

DKB

Suggestions For SQL 2005 Setup

Sep 7, 2006

OK we currently have a single SQL 2000 Server for our DW with a DR SQL 2000 Server. We are wanting to create a setup where we have a Failover Cluster of SQL 2005 here at the main office with a DR SQL 2005 system at our DR site. My question is... How would you all do the failover and stuff? How many servers would I need and what would be the job/role for each server. Some things to take note we are implimenting a SAN in our network and we are also implimenting a Virtual Server system on our network. To my understanding you do not really wish to run SQL Servers on a Virtual machine if possible. So I am already planning on making the SQL Servers Physical systems. We are also planning on putting the DB's on the SAN and have the SAN replicate all the data to DR. So... How would you all invision things to be setup? Is there any good documentation I can read about this type of setup. Thank you in advance for all the advice you can provide.

Thanks,

Billy S.

MS SQL 2005 Setup Bootstrapper

Feb 18, 2008

So, here's my problem..

I've been working on getting SQL 2k5 installed for a few days now. It's been the single most trying installation I've ever attempted. Absolutely riddled with problems.. I've had to do integrate SP2 and XP and reinstall my OS... I've literally lost 15-20 hours of my life to this.

So here's my newest problem.
I've new to the techie world so try and make sense of this. Thanks.
