Setup And Upgrade :: Error Setup Account Privileges
Nov 15, 2015
I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop. When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

Our software vendor rep is trying to upgrade MS SQL server 2008 SP4 to 2012 SP1. Get an error message: no mapping between account names and security ADs was done. He says that we get this error message because we have two domain controllers in our network, and one is running on the same windows server that run sql server. Out IT support disagrees to delete the second domain controller, saying it is recommended by Microsoft and he suggests that the problem is in Active directory.

I am working with a client who is rolling out 50+ VM's based of a template we created. This is SQL 2012 CU1 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. Using the default service account the installer has it registers fine and we get the following in the SQL log.
The SQL Server Network Interface library successfully registered the Service Principal Name (SPN) [ MSSQLSvc/server.domain.com:1433 ] for the SQL Server service.
When we change to a domain service account through SQL configuration manager we see the following and cannot connect remote using integrated authentication The SQL Server Network Interface library could not register the Service Principal Name (SPN) [ MSSQLSvc/server.domain.com:1433 ] for the SQL Server service. Windows return code: 0x2098, state: 15. Failure to register a SPN might cause integrated authentication to use NTLM instead of Kerberos. This is an informational message. Further action is only required if Kerberos authentication is required by authentication policies and if the SPN has not been manually registered.
My understanding is you should and could change service accounts using the SQL Server Configuration Manager and it would set all permissions. Is there something we need to do in addition to get this up and working?

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022. It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.
I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP. There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.
1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account. Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions. I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder. I come back later and the permissions are gone.
2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared. I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.
3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

When I'm trying to create a database diagram for my tables., First it prompts me saying that - "This database does not have one or more of the supported objects... Do you wish to create them? I know this is normal when you don't have any diagrams. But after clicking "Yes", I get the following error which is attached.
I tried changing the database Owner to "sa". But, still the same error. Interestingly, other databases that are already having the database diagrams (created by others), are allowing me to create new diagrams in those databases. The only difference is, I created this database where I'm trying to create diagrams on. How do I get this working.

I'm trying to activate FILESTREAM on my SQL Server 2012, however i'm not accomplishing it. I've tried to follow this instructions: [URL] ...
My SETUP is the following:
Windows 8 (64 bit)SQL Server Standard Edition - Service Pack 1 (64 bit)SQL Version: (11.0.3128.0)
When I go to the configuration manager, on the FILESTREAM tab has a message:
"A previous FILESTREAM configuration attempt was incomplete.
FILESTREAM may be in an inconsistent state until re-configured."
If I click Enable FILESTREAM and "Apply", I get the following message:
"There was an unknown error applying the FILESTREAM settings. Check the parameters are valid. (0x80070002)"
I also read somewhere to run "EXEC sp_configure", which produces the result:
"filestream access level - 0 2 2 0"
Running "SELECT SERVERPROPERTY ('FilestreamEffectiveLevel');" returns 0.

I am running a SQL 2008r2 install while logged onto the server with a local admin account, not a domain account. I am specifying a domain account to run the SQL service. The install fails saying the service account credentials are invalid but I am 99.9% sure they are right.My theory - the local admin account running Setup cannot validate the service account creds against AD. Is it a requirement to run Setup while logged on with a domain account?

Hi, I have the following setup:
- Win 2K Server, SP4
- SQL Srv 2K, SP4
- A 'DEV' domain, with an 'Administrator' account with all possible rights on the system
I need to configure a CmdExec proxy account in order to allow non-sys-admin users to execute the master.dbo.xp_CmdShell procedure.
When attempting to do this via QA as follows:
EXEC master.dbo.xp_sqlagent_proxy_account N'SET',
N'DEV', -- agent_domain_name
N'Administrator', -- agent_username
N'password' -- agent_password
...I get the following error:
"The system cannot find the path specified."
When attempting to do this via QA as follows (note: only change is adding domain to agent_username arg):
EXEC master.dbo.xp_sqlagent_proxy_account N'SET',
N'DEV', -- agent_domain_name
N'DEVAdministrator', -- agent_username
N'password' -- agent_password
...I get the following error:
"Error executing extended stored procedure: Specified user can not login"
I have tried this through Enterprise Manager and get identical results, of course.
I have also tried all of the following:
- different OS user accounts, including local system accounts with local admin rights;
- assigning the OS account to a SQL login with System Admin role/rights;
- specifically assigning the above SQL login with EXEC rights on the master.dbo.xp_CmdShell procedure;
- verifying local security policy settings, as per the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=283811;
- pulling out my hair and banging my head against the wall.
Can anyone H E L P ? ! ! !
Thanks,
Joe

Is there way to completely re-install the Configuration Manager? One post suggested the Access denied was Administrator rights but I have full Administrative rights to everything so I don't see that being the problem.
