I am requested to list out SQL Server setup file location but a bit confused with it, I can see two setup files in two different locations:
All Programms>Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2>Configuration Tools>SQL Server Installation Center (64bit)>Right Click>Open File Location: Directing to LandingPage
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100Setup BootstrapSQLServer2008R2x64
But here below it is found the setup file location:
E:SoftwareSW_DVD9_SQL_Svr_Enterprise_Edtn_2008_R2_English_MLF_X16-29
Here in case I have to install a new instance which one I have to select?
To repair the existing instance which setup file I have to select?

I've been asked to create a new SQL server and restore an old server's DBs to the new server.
I'd like to generate a list of the DB names using powershell to distribute to their creators, in case some of these DBs are no longer needed.

This morning I attempted to connect to my local copy of SQL Server (2012) (Win 7) using Windows Authentication. I was unable to do so and per the error log it was due to error 18456 (invalid credentials).
Yesterday I changed my windows password. Is it possible for this to be the cause?
FYI, following is from the error logs:
2015-04-27 10:10:32.98 Backup BACKUP DATABASE successfully processed 0 pages in 0.451 seconds (0.000 MB/sec).2015-04-28 00:00:41.90 spid18s This instance of SQL Server has been using a process ID of 2096 since 4/21/2015 9:08:05 AM (local) 4/21/2015 1:08:05 PM (UTC). This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
The logs showed the error occurred yesterday (4/28) which is about when I changed my password. The 17:09 log (last one) is when I shut down my computer. Note that I was logged into SQL Server when I changed my Windows password and worked with it several times through out the day.
Also, per the configuration manager SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) (and all other services) is stopped and I was unable to start it ("The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion).

I added a secondary data file to TEMPdb yesterday and gave it a wrong location by mistake. If I try to change the location, then I am getting an error now. I think that is because TEMPdb is in use and that is why I cant change it's secondary file's location. Do I need to take TempDB offline and then change the secondary file's location??

My SQL Server has one MDF file and 3 NDF file - all almost 100 GB/file. It's leads the disk space almost fill.
I want equal distributed - splitting the MDF and NDF file to 10 or 15 files. So it will solve my space issue.

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop. When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

Have a production server, 12 Enterprise, and we are adding a new app to an existing instance. Next app needs SSRS and that was not put in the install request a year ago for the instance.
I do not think a reboot is required but have been wrong before. There are no SPs applied to this server and only last week we were given go ahead from one app vendor to apply SPs. That would have been done in monthly maintenance cycle next weekend. Our test server is doing just fine with all apps on SP1.

I'm trying to activate FILESTREAM on my SQL Server 2012, however i'm not accomplishing it. I've tried to follow this instructions: [URL] ...
My SETUP is the following:
Windows 8 (64 bit)SQL Server Standard Edition - Service Pack 1 (64 bit)SQL Version: (11.0.3128.0)
When I go to the configuration manager, on the FILESTREAM tab has a message:
"A previous FILESTREAM configuration attempt was incomplete.
FILESTREAM may be in an inconsistent state until re-configured."
If I click Enable FILESTREAM and "Apply", I get the following message:
"There was an unknown error applying the FILESTREAM settings. Check the parameters are valid. (0x80070002)"
I also read somewhere to run "EXEC sp_configure", which produces the result:
"filestream access level - 0 2 2 0"
Running "SELECT SERVERPROPERTY ('FilestreamEffectiveLevel');" returns 0.

If I install a new named instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 on a machine that already has 3 named instances that are upgraded to service pack 3, will the install of the new instance overwrite any of the current SP3 files? Will I have to re-apply SP 3 to the existing instances?

During installation of SQL Server 2000 I set the default location for data files as D:MySQLServer which resulted in the location D:MySQLServerMSSQL.
I then installed SQL Server 2005. I do not remember being given the option of specifying location for the Data Files. Then I read that the location for named instances is deteremined by the first installation of SQL Server. The location for the data files for SQL Server 2005 turned out to be MSSQL.1 but under C:Program Files.....
I want the default location for SQL Server 2005 to be under D:MySQLServer, something like D:MySQLServerMSSQL.1. How do I do I change the default location for the Data Files.

Hello
The default location where db's are created is almost full.
Is there any way to change the default location where the .mdf and .ldf are created when I create a new db? I know I can do this when I create a new db and go select where I want it to be, but can I make it default to a different directory automatically so no human intervention is needed?

In SQL2000, there's an option to change the location of the template folder. This allows me to create a customized set of templates on a network folder and have all the developers reference the centralized location. Can the same be done in SQL2005 and how would I go about doing so?
Thanks.

I have been trying to change the location of the SQL 2005 error log. It's logging to the default location at
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOG
I want to move the log location to the E drive because it can get quite large. I already changed the setting in the SQL Server Error and Usage config tool, but this did not seem to make a difference.

If I can get around taking a few databases offline, I'd like to. I need to get logfiles on a lower-capacity drive.
Ideally, I wouldn't like to have multiple logfiles swimming around. But, I was thinking that if I created a second logfile, and then backed up the transaction log, I might be able to remove the first logfile?
The other thought I had, was creating a second logfile, and then turning off autogrow on the first log.
Maybe there is a better solution? Maybe neither of these will work?
Thoughts?
