View 4 RepliesDo you have to move the entire content of the log folder to the new location?
View 4 RepliesHi all,
I have to give support to this new client of ours and the system out there was a real mess. The log files for all four databases were ranging from 5 to 9 GB's, no maintanance no nothing was done since the setup of the system. I have truncated the logs after taking proper backups since it all started after they compalined a DTS was not working, which was due to no disk space available ;).
Now I have to shift the log files to a seperate disk.
I know it can be done by detaching the database and attaching it back, I was wondering if we can do it without bringing the system offline?
Anycomments welcome.
Thankyou.
regards,
harshal.
My SQL Server has one MDF file and 3 NDF file - all almost 100 GB/file. It's leads the disk space almost fill.
I want equal distributed - splitting the MDF and NDF file to 10 or 15 files. So it will solve my space issue.

I am working on SQL Server 2014 and I want to know, Is it possible to change the location of SQL log file and will it affect to the database if it is possible to change its location?

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.
I am trying to move a logfile from one disk to another. I've detached the database, moved the logfile to another disk and reattached the database. I used the sp_detach and sp_attach_db to specify the paths of the *.MDF and *.LDF. I've tried it through Enterprise Manager and with boths ways I get an error message saying: "Error 9003: The LSN (201:48:2) passed to log scan in database 'DatabaseName' is invalid". Does anyone know what this means and how I can get around this. I've even tried to attach the database with the logfile in the original path and I still get that error. Need Help Please!
Thanks

Hello,
this is my configuration :
1) 3 disks in RAID5 that hold the SQL data
2) 1 disk in RAID0 that holds the only paging file.
What will happen to the SQL data (DB) when the disk that holds the paging file crashes?
Kindest regards,
Luc.
I want to move 2 databases to another physical disk. They are both single file databases. It looks like a fairly straigtforward attach and detach procedure, but I have a couple of questions:
The log files (.ldf) currently reside on a separate physical disk from the data files, if I attach and reattach the data files will the logs remain where they are by default or do I have to re specify there location?
Is there any advantage to running the update statistics portion of the sp_detach_db?
I am trying to find out if it is possible to move indexes to a separate filegroup/disk drive during database restore. I am trying this to see if it improves performance. Also if I cannot move the indexes during restore, how would I move them afterwards to a different filegroup/disk drive? Thanks in advance for all the help.
View 7 Replies View Relateddoes anyone know if tempdb can be physically moved to a different partition on a disk drive on SQL Server 7.0? Since it can't be backed up I'm hesitant to use the sp_detach/sp_attach procedure because I don't want to crash it. If nothing else is available, I can attempt moving it this way at the end of the day and then just reboot to get tempdb back up again if the server fails, but I'd really appreciate a suggestion from someone who has more know-how than I do about system table operations. Thanks again

I am wondering what would be the best disk/RAID setup for a Windows server 2008 R2 OS and SQL Server 2012 database that has heavy read/write. I have the following disks I can use:
4x 15k 146GB
2x 10k 600GB
According to the server build requirements for the application, I need 100GB for the OS and 290GB for the drive containing the SQL mdf there are no stated requirements for the ldf, but would like to know if it should be allocated elsewhere?I should do RAID 10 for the 15k drives for SQL and RAID 1 for the OS on the 10k.
WHY master, msdb, model always seem to be on the " C " drive ....
