After installing SQl Server 2012, I need to perform some adjustments for its configurations.
On the TempDB, I want to:
1) Turn on Trace Flag 1117. How to do this?
2) Having only one transaction log file. How can I make sure of this?
3) Creating multiple files. How to do this?
My server has two 8 core processor. Should I use 8 or 16 data files for Tempdb?

I'm looing for advice on how to organize my SSIS packages. I'll quickly describe my requiremenst, and then outline how I see the solution.
1. Should work for development in BI Studio. Design time experience should be good, so static schema information should be available in all steps. Packages should run in debug mode inside BI Studio.
2. Should be able to run automated tests (which I gather is difficult. See proposed solution below). Tests should run both on a test machine, in batch mode, and from BI Studio.
3. Should work for deployment.
The packages should be fine-grained. Automated tests will be implemented as SSIS packages that call the packages to be tested via an Execute Package Task. There will be one test package per testcase. A test will look like: [Create Schema] -> [Load test data]->[Execute Package to be tested]->[Verify expected results]->[Teardown].
There will be one master test package that executes all the tests.
For this I need a) some way to vary the connections for the packages depending on whether they are run from a testcase or from the normal control flow. I'm considering making the connection strings configurations based on a parent package variable. Other configuration types strike me as not suitable since developers will want to run packages both as part of normal flow and as testcases on their machines. Is this a viable strategy? Any drawbacks?
b) need to organize testcases some way. I tried putting tests in a subfolder of the project to minimize the clutter, but BI studio shows them at the root node. I tried putting a new project (for containing the tests) in the same folder, and adding the packages (via add existing item), but BI Studio insists of adding copies (!) of the package files, rather than reusing the existing files. Any suggestions?
I welcome any feedback, suggestions of alternate strategies, etc.

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.
I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.
I start upgrade 6.5-7.0 via Named Pipes from one server to another .
Overall size of my databases is 20 GB . I restrict Tempdb size on target server 7.0 upto 1GB - data and 1GB - log ( I wonna use that in future )and
failed upgrade procedure (after 2 hours ) with errors in SQLlog such as :
"1105 - tmpdb syslog full" .
Is there any recomendations about Tempdb size in upgrade process !

I want equal distributed - splitting the MDF and NDF file to 10 or 15 files. So it will solve my space issue.

Is there way to completely re-install the Configuration Manager? One post suggested the Access denied was Administrator rights but I have full Administrative rights to everything so I don't see that being the problem.
So, I just downloaded and installed Windows 8 and SQL Server 2014 Developer. I used to have Visual Studio, that seems to be gone now. Can't find it. I can't figure out a way to get to SSIS or SSAS.

We setup a new Shared SQL server 2014 Web and transferred all SQL databases over. However when customers connect via SQL Management Studio they now get VIEW STATE error when right clicking on any table on any database.

I installed a default SQL Server 2012 instance on Windows Server 2012.I enabled the SQL Browser and changed the TCP port of the instance to 1435. I changed port 1433 to 1435 I was able to connect to the instance using SSMS on another server. Now I have to enter Servername,1435 to make a connection.Why does the SQL Browser not resolve the servername to the right IP address and port 1435? Why am I not able to make a connection when I enter the servername or <servername>MSSQLSERVER? Is a SQL Browser only resolving named instances?This works fine for a named instance. Is there something special about default instances or the SQL Browser?

I'm trying to upgrade an existing installation of SSE 2005 to SSE 2005 with Advanced Services SP1 so I can take advantage of Reporting Services. I'm installing on a box that has XP Pro SP2 installed. As prompted by the SSE setup, I had to install IIS. After installing IIS, the setup went along okay until it came time to configure the report server. I chose the default (configure with the default configuration) and I get the following error message:

Anybody know what is causing the error and how to fix it? I tried the above link and it didn't provide any helpful information. Do I really need to reinstall the .Net Framework (I'm hoping not)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the diffrence between the Built-In account 'SERVICES' and the 'NT SERVICEALL SERVICES' ?I want to dploy a group poicy for 'user right assignment' - 'log on a service' to a server, which curretnly has among other things the 'NT SERVICEALL SERVICES' however i can't replicate this account for my GPO, (even locally on the server),I deploy the GPO and overwrite the server settings for 'user right assignment' - 'log on a service' and won't be able to revert back to the original settings..
