Should IsSorted Metadata Be Stored In Raw Files

Dec 1, 2006

Hello,

I have an input into a raw file destination that has IsSorted=TRUE.

Any output from a raw file source that uses that raw file will have IsSorted=FALSE.

So, a question for Microsoft. Is it a legitimate request to ask that the IsSorted and SortKey metadata be stored in a raw file? If so I shall raise it at Connect.

Help Files / Metadata On Reports

Aug 29, 2007

I had a pervious thread on a metadata KB but didn't get a response. So I was wondering if anyone has added on a web based help file app to SSRS? Something that you could assign additional metadata to each report. Something that would be searchable.

At this point SSRS doesn't provide enough fields for metadata. I am looking to assign some thing like:

1. Owner/Requestor of report
2. Fields in report
3. Description (other than the one provided)
4. etc..

Does anyone have any ideas of a add on, utility, or software?

Thanks

Integration Services :: Creating Dynamic Server Tables Through SSIS As Per XML Data Files Metadata

Feb 15, 2011

I have a scenario, need to create SQL server Tables dynamically.

I Have multiple xml data file on a particular location, and want to load those XML data into sql server tables, but he metadata of each xml data files are not same.

Hence the approach is that,

1. Pick first file from that location
2. Create a table according to that xml data file metada
3. load data on newly created table.
4. Pickup the next xml data files.
5. loop through, till the XML data files are exists on that location.

Where Is The IsSorted Property?

Nov 9, 2006

Hello.

within a data flow task I have two OLE DB sources that I am attempting to put into a merge join.

When I connect them to the merge join transformation I get the following error:

The IsSorted property must be set to true on both sources of this transformation.

I understand what this means but I cannot see an IsSorted option in the properties of the OLE DB sources so I can't set it. Can you tell me where it is? for the time being I'm having to put a sort transform in to get it to work.

Thanks

OLE DB DataSource W Stored Procedure Not Populating Column Metadata

Mar 28, 2006

I'm having some issues getting OLE DB Data Sources to work w stored procs in SSIS. Here's the situation.

I have an OLE DB Data Source set up to call a stored proc w no parameters. The stored procedure loops through a set of databases and inserts data from each database into a results table. I'm attempting to return the results table to SSIS, but the Available External Columns are not populating. However, previewing the query in SSIS does show results. The insert in to the results table is done by a call to sp_executesql.

I've tried setting the results table up as a temp table, table variable, and static table. I have NOCOUNT set ON and am only returning one recordset. I've seen the other threads in here about similar problems, but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

Any help would be much appreciated....

T-SQL Commands To Copy Files && Stored Procedures

Mar 20, 2008

I am looking to implement a system whereby a given user can 'authorise' changes to the system itself and promote from test to live.
For instance a user might be running an application which has a SQL 2005 database DataA opena nd runnign stored procedures from that. I'd like a Stored procedure in that able to copy over a given stored procedure from a different database - DataB and copy into DataA. Is that possible?
Also is it possible from T-SQL to copy files on the servers underlying filesystem? Ie to copy some .aspx files from one location to another.

Importing Stored Procedures From Saved SQL (.sql) Files.

Sep 19, 2005

I frequently use the "Generate Script" wizard to create a folder of .sql files (scripts) that I use to then transfer to my colleagues.

The question is, I don't see how to reverse the procedure, that is, to import the files with a bulk procedure, rather than copying them one at a time. What's the best way to do this?

thanks

Accessing Image Files Stored As Binary Data

Jul 11, 2006

Hi
When images are uploaded and stored directly into a sql database as binary data (eg in the club starter kit) how can those images be accessed and displayed.
When I open the images table in VWD and select display data, the cells holding the image data hold a <binary data> tag. What I want to be able to do is get at that data, or actually get at the image so that it is displayed. My reason is this, at the moment the only way to access the images in the sql database after they have been uploaded is to log into the website and view them as an administrator of the site. It would be much simpler if I could access the database directly and view the contents of the images table.
Any ideas?
Thanks

SQL7 + Stored Proc's = Files [Persistant Recordsets]

Oct 10, 2000

Hi,

I was wondering, is there any way to have a stored procedure write to a file its resultant recordset?

i.e. I have this SP which fires a query, this in turn returns a single row recordset that I need to have written to a file. I realise this could easily be facilitated using an ADO client, however, can it be done by the backend i.e. the SQL7 & SP itself, directly?

I hope you can help me here! thanks for your time!
Cheers

Hello everybody

I actually wrote a stored procedure (in xp_wrapper.dll) that is using a dll (original.dll) which uses a license file (no file extension).... clear? :)

Anyway.

All the required files are placed in the BINN dir of the server.

The problem is now, that original.dll can't find it's license file. It seems, that this file was not load by SQL Server.

How can I load this file into SQL Server's heap?

Hi all,

I tried to create a CSV file using Bulk Copy Program (BCP) and Stored Procedures: BCP executed from T-SQL using xp_cmdshell. I have the following sql code executed in my SQL Server Management Studio Express and error message:

--scBCPcLabResults.sql--

declare @sql varchar(8000)
select @sql = 'bcp ChDbLabResults out
c:cpChDbLabResults.txt -c -t, -T -S' + @@.SQLEXPRESS

Insconsistant Metadata

I recently added a column to an existing table with a getdate default. When doing a query from that server everything works fine. When a query is ran from a remote server I get an SQLOLEDB error message saying 'inconsistant metadata'. I've tried dropping the remote server and reconnecting but that didn't seem to resolve the problem. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this error. I believe the error number is 7353.

Any suggestions appreciated!

SSIS Metadata...

Mar 18, 2007

hi,

Is there a way to find out which user defined procs/child packages etc are been called in SSIS packages using some metadata. The idea is to have a document which lists the number of packages called, whats sprocs and child packages are executed by those pkgs..

I have checked the SSIS metadata whitepaper but that is too generic.

What do you do to address this:

[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column "objectName1" needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection.

A corollary question: what does right-clicking a package in Solution Explorer and clicking "Reload with Upgrade" do?

Metadata Refresh

Feb 26, 2007

-We are using SSIS packages for various kind of data load from excel source.
-If there are any change in the data type or format of excel, the package cries for the Metadata mismatch.
-During design time if you accept the metadata changes, all things work fine.

But in our case we have deployed the packages on Production Server, now the excel file format/data has changed. The packages are expecting a different metadata so they are not working at all.

Do you have any suggestions for the above problem?
Thanks, Vijay.

Metadata Question

Apr 4, 2008

i am using icolumnsrowset interface to get some metadata about the columns in a rowset, but i never got unique and primary key columns in the columnsrowset, they always return null, when using sqlcedataadapter i simply add addwithkey option to the adapter to determine it, but i dont know how to do it by using ole db interfaces, i have tried to set DBCOLUMN_KEYCOLUMN flag to true on ccommand<cynamicaccessor, crowset> but it seems it rejects it, generating an unknown error, error object says almost nothing except that 'errors occured[,,,,,]' text

can someone tell me, how can i retrieve columnsrowset with that unique and primary key sections filled?

METADATA DEPENDENCY

Nov 9, 2007

Hello everybody,

It's now quite some time that one particular behaviour of SSIS is really frustrating me and I would like to know if I'm the only one experiencing this problem or if other people have the same problem.
The issue I'm talking about is SSIS 'dependency on what is written in the XML files describing the flows.
Particularly with the Data Types of columns.
I'm explaining myself: Imagine your are developping a flow containing several numeric(18,0) columns...
During the flow you have to perform a lookup on an Integer Field.... Of course this operation is not allowed as a numeric is not mappable with an Integer... (This is, in my opinion, a nonsense as an implicit conversion has to be possible).
as a result of this behaviour, I decide to change the datatype (numeric) from my source query to an integer and use it in the Lookup which of course succeeds but now I have a second problem: each lookup in my flow has an error handling branch which I'm joining back using a Union transform. and there we have the second irritation: the Union transform doesn't replicate the Data Type changes that occured upwards in the flow... worse: it even has no interface to let you modify the data types like the advanced editor of some transforms or data sources. (I've just lost a complete dataflow while trying to modify it manually in the xml file directly :-( for those who are considering modifying directly the XML, don't!! You are asking for trouble and a lot of frustration when you'll switch back to the designer to see the effects )
My question is now: Am I misusing SSIS?? Is there somewhere an option to activate in order to get this behaviour fixed??
Has anyone else experienced this problem?? How are you solving this??
Are there any plans in the future to loose this dependency on the datatypes or at least add some implicit conversions??

Thanks in advance for your replies, suggestions, questions and other thaughts about this subject :-)

Alain
